I have to say, the last 3 times I've gone the bread is not the same. The conchitas are always hard and not soft, I literally have to dip them in milk to eat them. My first memories of San Antonio Bakery are rooted in the 1980s, but it's been around since something like the 1960s. My parents remember going to this bakery when they were young! So, yes, my family would visit this family-owned panaderia for the conchas and this round, jelly topped pan. I don't recall the name of that particular bread, but the best way to eat it was round and round until you reached the center, which you would devour in one big messy bite. On the recent visit, they did not have them on display. But I was glad to see they had cochitos, bolillo and lots of different types of cookies and muffins. I have loved this place since I was a kid. My grandma lived in the neighborhood and when we went to see her, we'd all walk over here and get a pan dulce. I don't know what they do to the bread over here, but nothing compares to it. Everyone from around there knows it too. On any cold night, this place will have a line out of the door. The price is great, especially considering the quality. The service is decent and it would probably help to speak Spanish. There's a very small lot to park in, but it might be tough. Wow! They have the best Mexican bread in town hands down. We came around 7pm and the line was literally out the door in the rain. That is why we had to stop and see what was all the commotion about. Went there today and bought $7.10 worth of bread. The lady only gave me the change back never gave me the $2, I mentioned to her that she had not given me my full change back. She never said nothing just turned around wearing the same gloves she had just grabbed the bread I had bought and using those same gloves gave me the $2 back. Didn't take those gloves off at all. Never even apologize or nothing, didn't even thank me so I grabbed the bread and walked out. Now I'm thinking she never even changed her gloves as she attended another customer.
