Dumbfounded, seriously. I was expecting one of the best Green Tea Horchata drinks ever which should have consisted of good flavors, quality ingredients, and the correct amount of ingredients. Instead I received a poor beverage. First, my beverage had mostly green tea and maybe a quarter of horchata. Second, since it was mostly green tea it tasted bland. Third, my beverage was made incorrectly. Why? Well, I noticed photos on Yelp that had perfectly made Green Tea Horchata drinks that consisted of more than half of horchata and about a quarter of green tea. What happened to mine!? Service was exceptional! Nice young lady (Aurora) with a smile on her face and friendly. I ordered at 5pm exactly. The venue is huge! There were fun artifacts, souvenirs, and enough seating for a big crowd. Oh! And a door that leads to a brewery, but with a different name. Stopped here after a quick trip to Northgate Market. Surprised this place had so many reviews, so had to check it out. My husband and I came here pretty late, I would've liked to try their churros and other desserts that looks super delicious, but wasn't feeling it when we visited. We just opted to get a large horchata to share. I was not really a fan. Their horchata is super, super freaking sweet. I've definitely had better horchata elsewhere. The price and quantity is fair I think, but I'll have to try other things on their menu to see if just the horchata is not to my taste. Interior is very clean and spacious. This place is very well decorated, with art and merchandise around the store. However, it took quite a while before my order was taken even when no one was in front of me. Kind of just awkwardly stood there and took my phone out because no one came to take my order. Service was nice though when someone finally came over to take my order, and I got my drink really quick. There's a little bit of parking available, you may have an issue grabbing a spot on a typical day I think. There is a convenient drive-thru though. Right when I stepped in, I was genuinely impressed by the amount of space and authentic Mexican art/decor they had! There was also a brewery that is soft opening inside which was a nice touch. We came for the churro sundae and it was absolutely delicious. The churros were perfectly fresh and the horchata ice cream was top notch. Perfect for sharing! Huge fan. I love coming here, either for a coffee and breakfast hangout or grabbing churros and horchata ice cream (so good) for a dessert date. There's always a good reason to go to Horchateria. The interior is gorgeous and vibrant, it's very art-centric, and the cafe hosts live music/comedians/different venues in their extra pop-up room. The music is often really good, too. The breakfast menu is good, and is served on homestyle dishes. My main order is either their horchata frappe, or horchata ice cream. I've had so many friend meetups and dates here. The vibey place is very spacious, got good music, and yummy treats! My boyfriend and I have been here twice so far and we enjoy it! The watermelon agua fresca was not overly sweet and was light tasting, which I really enjoyed! The cheesecake was nice and cold, the graham cracker crust was very crumbly though but the taste was very rich! The second time we went, we got a mazapan frappe and the strawberry paleta frappe; BOTH very true to the flavors and very strong! These were paired with nice, hot, fresh mini churros and got some chocolate dipping sauce on the side. The chocolate is a little on the runny side; I know for the future I will be getting the lechera sauce instead! But these drinks were perfect for the heat wave we were experiencing! They were not as crispy as I like them on the outside, but the inside was warm, slightly chewy, and soft like I like them. Perfectly paired with the guava and lechera sauce it was smothered with. The ambiance and cleanliness inside of this cafe was very impressive! I was told to go here by a friend. It's like a rustic industrial warehouse vibe inside with lots of homey hispanic decor. After waiting at the counter and looking at the menu for a while (because only one guy was working.. doing both drive thru and the front!!), I picked out the Horchata frappe. The only thing was I expected to taste more of the Horchata flavor.. I feel like it was a creamy milk frappe with very tame expresso and lots of cinnamon powder shaken on the whip cream. Unfortunately it tasted alright to me, but hopefully it was just because the barista was in a rush being by himself and didn't do things correctly? There wasn't any written info on the menus that nondairy milks were offered, but thankfully the barista mentioned they had almond milk or oat milk as a substitute. I got the Iced Horchata Latte with oat milk, and to be honest, I had trouble tasting the Horchata flavor I love. It tasted like a vanilla latte with cinnamon powder tossed ontop. It was good though, but as I drank it, the remaining bits of powder at the bottom of the drink made the texture chalky. So I didn't fully finish it. This is one of my favorite place to work out of. They offer Wi-Fi and have some plugs for your laptops. The place is huge and has plenty of seating. The food options are pretty good during the breakfast hours. My favorite is the breakfast sandwiches, tater tots, the biscuits and gravy, and their chilaquiles. After 2pm they have pastries and their drinks available. My favorite go to drink is the hot chocolate with oat milk or their aqua frescas & their cheesecakes are pretty good as well. On the plus side, they do give you 3 dip options, which I liked and was more than enough. We also tried the Horchata Oaxaqueña and the horchata iced coffee. It's been nine years since I last visited Horchateria. I still remember when they were at their original, much smaller location. Back then, you could already tell they had something special. Since then, I've seen them slowly expand, build, and remodel over time--and coming back now with some friends, it honestly made me proud to see how far they've come. The new location looks great, and everything still feels true to the quality and vibe I remember. Even better, I heard they've opened another location, which is amazing to see as someone coming back from Sacramento, CA after all these years. Wishing them nothing but continued success. I ordered cafe de la oja- it was a little sweet, so after drinking it about halfway. I went, and I had them refill it with regular coffee and they were very sweet and offered to give me a new cup of regular. I am planning to go back to try the food. My friend ordered the barbacoa breakfast burrito. I have to say that my pancakes were just delicious. Listen, I've been to a café in downtown Lake Placid, NY - in the heart of maple syrup country - and they did not service maple syrup - you couldn't even pay for it. Crazy! So HRL get's kudos from this displaced Canadian who loves maple syrup on his pancakes. In fact, when the owner (David) came by I complimented the fact the dish was excellent and the syrup was literally the caviar on top. My buddy loved his b'fast burrito. Honestly, I decided on this coffee/pastry place as a mid-way stop between L.B and L.A., and I'm so glad I decided to! This location is lovely, clean and so spacious with high ceilings and plants and decor that makes the environment very pleasant. I am local to the area and always try and stop by here whenever I need to study. I really like the ambience of horchateria, as it's always filled with a lot of people. As for the drinks I've tried many times, the frappes are solid but the health grade as a B always prevents me from trying more items. One thing I strongly dislike is that their restrooms are always poorly maintained. No matter how many times I come back to show support , the restrooms are always out of toilet paper, soap, or very dirty. If they up kept their restrooms, redid their inspection to an A , and also constantly cleaned their tables, this place would be better in all. Needs improvement. read more

The churros and drinks were had were all really good. We ordered the systems churros to share between 3 people and they were perfect. Fresh out, soft yet crunchy, a good balance of cinnamon and drizzle. We also ordered drinks: the Choco frappe, churro frappe, and steamed horchata. The steamed horchata was the best drink and probably what I would order when I return. It's on the sweeter side that's how I prefer my drinks. Choco frappe and churro frappe were pretty standard iced blended drinks. The churro frappe was surprisingly not as sweet as I thought it would be. This is a cafe so you order at the front then wait for your drinks and food to come out. We went after 8 pm so it was pretty chill that time. Plenty of seats for both small groups and big groups.
