To me, the signature of a good event is not only the food but also the cake. I must say we need more bakeries out there. I searched throughout Downey and found this wonderful cake shop, Marissa's. They have samples of their chocolate, vanilla and tres leches. The Tres leches was definitely my top choice for my cake order! The staff were polite and worked with me on the design of the cake. The guests at my event specifically complimented the cake, saying how moist and delicious it was and asked where I got it from. I was very pleased and relieved as again, having a delicious cake is a necessity to me for a great event.

What a blessing and life saver Marissa's Cakes is! I needed a cake within 3 hours because my previous cake maker bailed on me last minute! I asked for any cake that could be decorated with my daughter's birthday colors since I had the cake topper already! The cake came out beautifully and in time for my baby's birthday party! Thank you again!!!

We come in once a week for the dulce de lece cookies! They are made to order, the cookie is tender and buttery, the filling perfectly firm caramel and dusted with powdered sugar! They never make it home! The owner always greets me with a smile and makes them personally. He's so kind and a true local businessman. I've been coming here for years. I've also gotten cakes here- their cake stylist is fantastic and her cakes are beautiful and taste amazing! Grab some cookies!! read more

They did my wedding cake and it was gorgeous! It was 3 tiers to feed 106 people. Our flavors were marble cajeta, vanilla macchiato and carrot cream cheese. We had an opportunity to taste test a variety of different cake flavors. The cake came out so fresh on the day of the wedding. They also delivered it to our wedding venue. read more

I've been a loyal customer of marissa's cake for a while now and i've recommended her to family and friends but due to the rudeness we received from the old lady with glasses, we will be taking our business elsewhere. I walked in with my daughter and 2 family members, and right away she seemed annoyed by the fact that we were a larger group. I was there ordering a cake for my daughter's quinceañera and she kept being negative about my cake options because they were made in fondant and with fondant decorations. She also made a comment about my options saying that my design is art and it's gonna be pricey, as if i didn't have the money to pay for it. Overall the flavors were good as always, it was just her attitude that made my family and I very uncomfortable. read more

Amazing bakery the staff was really promising with design and explaining the different flavors and styles of the cake. The young lady Griselda was really helpful and extremely patient, went out of her way to show us different styles that we can use for my daughter's quinceanera.They also offer cake tasting, we tried 6 different flavors and they were mind blowing! I went in this past weekend to pick up a cake and unfortunately no cake was ever made. They failed to deliver on the date said, they didn't even know what the cake looked like. Total mess and extremely rude staff. The cake was already paid for in advance and I the event planer had the responsibility to deliver this cake and made me look horrible for their mistake. Very unorganized and will definitely NOT recommend this place. They did zero to try and make it up and only offered to deliver the cake at a later time. Of course the cake was made and again not delivered at the promised time. Think twice before ordering here. read more

Last minute was looking for a place to do a custom ordered cake. Although a simple request many declined to be able to get it done. Called and ordered with the cake being ready the same evening. My coworkers and I were impressed with the quality of this cake. A vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, so simple yet so delicious. This was the request from the birthday person and she stated this was the best cake of her favorite combination. Super moist and not overwhelmingly sweet as most cakes are. Two thumbs up for this place and will now be here for all cakes from now on. read more

I would definitely recommend Marissa's cakes for your event. They had excellent customer service and the cakes are delicious. Our cake was 2 tiers, one vanilla and one strawberry cake. Both were awesome in taste. We were having trouble finding a cake shop who would make the cake as we wanted it for our baby's first birthday. My husband found this gem on google search and having gave up, we called them up and conveniently were in contact with them via text. They unhesitatingly said they were willing to make our cake as requested. They saved us from the stress of looking for another cake shop with almost no time left for our event. Their cake shop was great, even allowed us to try their cake fillings as I was hesitant when ordering. I definitely will be going back to them for future events and I most definitely recommend them. If I can give this place 0 stars for their customer service, I would. The owner was absolutely vile for no reason toward my family, simply because we were not satisfied with the work they delivered. The owner was completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and honestly, for lack of better words, was a pure bitch about the situation. If your work is less than what you promise, humble yourself enough to handle customers with grace. Don't gaslight them into thinking it was their fault. Will never be returning. I don't support ungrateful ass people who are not genuine. read more

I have bought two cakes with Marissa and I am never disappointed! My wedding cake was beautiful and delicious, all our guest wanted more. I bought a graduation cake for my son's graduation and there was no left overs is was sooo good! Cajeta filling is delicious! The staff works with you and is so nice! Let me tell you something I've mentioned before, CUSTOMER SERVICE goes a long way!!! I called Marissa's Cake on a Thursday evening, whom ever answered was so professional, I was literally all over the place because I didn't know exactly what I wanted, so she gave me a mobile number so that I can send pictures of what I was looking for. Considering it was last minute I was very hesitant in sending her a few options, but there was absolutely no problem, she said she can fulfill my order by Sunday morning and she was even able to make two dozen cupcakes. Bottom line, Marissa's Cake exceeded my expectations! From now on I will definitely be going to her for all my cake orders!!! Not only did she make exactly what I asked for, as soon as I walked in to her shop I felt like I was walking in to someone's home. Everyone in the back was laughing, and talking to each other, it was just so nice to hear everyone working together and enjoying what they were doing, even though it was Sunday morning. The zucchini must make them naturally moist and they stay moist for days--if they aren't eaten on the first day we buy them. My family has enjoyed cupcakes from Sugar from the Heart for 10+ years. They've stayed consistently delicious and the quality has never wavered. My oldest daughter is my peanut butter lover so her go to birthday treat used to be their chocolate peanut butter cupcakes and even though she still loves them the zucchini cupcakes have surpassed them. I think the zucchini cupcakes have a brown butter frosting that is this cupcake's perfect partner. It really seems to be a family run business. There are two young men who might be one of the owner's sons and they are both friendly and kind. Like their mother. Multiple cupcake and other types of cake places have cropped up in the vicinity over the years but my heartfelt opinion is that Sugar from the Heart is still the best.

Everyone agreed that the cake was good, so we placed a deposit for the cake. We also received a dozen free cupcakes through one of her promotional emails. On the day of the event, Cheyberries delivered the cake directly to our venue on time. Long story short, the cake turned out even more beautiful than I imagined and was one of the highlights of the event. It was literally the talk of the room! For example, I have been to plenty of events where people politely take a slice of cake, but I have never seen guests go back for seconds and finish the entire cake before the event was even over. There were people asking for more cake to take a slice home but it was all devoured! It really was that good. Not only was the design stunning, but the cake tasted just as amazing as it looked. I purchased a Nuñez Tres Leches cake, but the cake was extremely dry and hard, as if it had been sitting there for several days. A tres leches cake is supposed to be moist and soft, but this cake was the complete opposite. No one at the party ate it because of how dry it was. The next morning, June 13, 2026, at approximately 11:40 AM, I called the bakery and spoke with an employee. He seemed rude and uninterested in helping resolve the issue. He told me to bring the cake back, which I had no problem doing. I arrived at the bakery around 12:00 PM, only to find the business completely closed with the blinds down and the doors locked. What makes this even more frustrating is that the employee knew I was on my way, yet failed to mention they were closing. In addition, the business hours listed online state that the bakery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00 AM to 7:00 PM, which was clearly not accurate. I will be returning on Monday to request a refund and return the cake, since the bakery is closed on Sundays. I am very disappointed with both the quality of the cake and the customer service I received. Customers who purchase a tres leches cake expect it to be fresh, moist, and soft--not dry, hard, and inedible. I hope this issue can be resolved appropriately. Thank you.

My Wife would prefer I'd be the bigger person and not say anything but I'm pissed. These people have absolutely no idea how to run a business. I have no doubt they will go out of business the way things are handled there. Tell me marissa, what was the point of your rude assistant to call my Wife harassing her over the payment, threatening that if the payment isn't made the cake wont be made...if your going to forget to make the fuc#*ng cake. My Wife goes to pick it up and your staff scrambles around in panic looking everywhere whispering with you in the back. My Wife could hear all of you WTF!!!??? Finally some rude tall girl is the one selected to delivered the news that the ordered was lost. Our cake was never made. While the rest of the staff hides in the back. No apologies just sass. unreal!! Never again marissa. That's the last cake you DON'T MAKE for us because you forgot our Son's cupcakes last year but we let it slide, rem? DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!!!! COCKROACH ALERT!!!!!! so i walked in there to make an order and while i waited for someone to notice me a ROACH ZOOMED BY MY FEET!!!! OMG!! and im wearing flip flops!! i ran out of there of course and would have complained to some one if there had been someone at the counter to complain to but really what for? because im sure they are aware of their ROACH PROBLEM!!
