I finally made the drive to Downey to try this chicken spot I have been eyeing for monthsssss! Their parking lot is located in the back of the restaurant as street parking appears to be limited. They As we are a primarily chicken household, I brought my family with me to try their chicken plates and creative chicken plates. My first initial thought walking into Chicken Koop is that it has calm party vibe... the reason I say this is because through our whole time in the restaurant, they were playing a lot of my favorite songs. For a second, I thought my phone had connected to their speakers, lol! Pictured below is the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the 1/2 Roasted Chicken Plate. We picked this place as a last-minute dinner option since none of us had tried it before, and we thought it would be worth a shot. We ordered takeout and were pleasantly surprised they still accepted our order only 30 minutes before closing. I had the mushroom wrap because it seemed like a healthier option. The rice is just plain white rice so skipped on that. For sides, got the jalapeño mac and cheese and the cucumber salad. Regretfully, I wish I got different ones. The mac was meh, nothing special. It looks better in photos than it tasted. The cucumber salad was alright. I wouldn't get it again. I was hoping it would be more like a Greek/Mediterranean cucumber salad. Wish they had tabouleh! On a Sunday afternoon, this is a pretty chill spot not too busy. Service was good, the food was pretty good too. The nachos were $10 bc of Sunday happy hour after 3. They were good, the chicken on them was great. The garlic fries are amazing! The chicken sandwich unfortunately was nothing special but good for the price. I didn't like how sodas were canned/bottled and we weren't told about it before hand. My only complaint was that the boards the food is served on are soo small so your food may fall off, and they had threads from a sponge or rag in between the areas where the boards are wearing down. Maybe a new finish on the boards or new boards in general are a good idea. Also the parking lot is decent sized for a Sunday evening but I can imagine when it gets buy for their brunch it can be a mess read more

They have bottomless mimosas so I already knew I was going to enjoy myself. I got a chicken quesadilla with fries, one of my friends got chicken sliders , and plantains , another friend got taquitos and chicken wings. Everyone was pleased with their meal. However, I will say if you are a saucy lady like myself , add pico and chimchurri sauce to the quesadilla- it's a little dry without them. There's seating indoors with a bar area and outside seating in a "covered" area. They have an extensive menu of items featuring chicken and a lot of it looks really good. The plates that were coming out do the kitchen were loaded. We ordered some fried chicken sliders with their habanero sauce , a small chicken pozole, and a chicken Al pastor taco. The tangy creamy slaw on the slider was a nice balance to the heat of the sauce, chicken also had a nice crunch. The small pozole is plenty and comes with onions cabbage radish on the side. Then u dress it all up with lime and ground red chile paste. Packs serious heat but also flavor! Made that pozole pop. The Al pastor seasoning on the chicken for the taco is good and great pairing with the pineapple (rightfully so) So far so good on the chicken items. The chicken had good flavor, but sadly came out dry, which is kind of a problem when chicken is literally the whole concept. Add a 30-minute wait time, and the food just didn't justify the hype. I won't have them any other way, they are perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender inside. These are full of flavor, I'm serious every single bite is busting flavor. We also had the chicken taquitos, they were ok. I would have liked them better if they were filled with chicken tings. We shared the Cuban style plate, this is the main reason my husband likes this place. These chicken is flavored and every piece is tender and juicy, even the chicken breast. The only thing I didn't like this visit was that they sold out of chicken empanadas, this is my absolute favorite item on the menu. Oh can't forget the margaritas, they have the best margaritas we have ever tried. We got the margarita flight to see what flavor my husband would like, we ordered mango, guava, and watermelon. The watermelon was are favorite one. Next time we will just get a pitcher of watermelon margarita :) This time around the service was the best, we have been to this specific location about four times. Nice spot, looks more like a nighttime type bar, but closes at 10 pm. If you like chicken this is the place, they offer just about everything with chicken. For example, I was in the mood for eggs and waffles, and that comes with the waffle stuffed with chicken! They will put it on the side if that's not your thing. There is a generous outdoor patio area with fans and street noise, but on a hot day, you're better off going for an indoor table with their lovely air conditioning. A full service bar with lots of seating around the bar area, just like a real bar, the kind that stay open till 2 am. Even the bathrooms reminded me of the sort of thing you might find at The Standard or similar, individual private booths (tiny rooms?) with a central hand washing trough for all. The staff was great and there were lots of them. The parking lot is off street behind the restaurant with lots of spots for all. I went to eat dinner here earlier this evening and I did not have the best experience at all. I ordered the fried chicken sliders with the mild "side chick" seasoning, but when they arrived, the sauce was dripping off of them and soaking into the bun, making it very mushy. I have an aversion to this kind of gross texture, cant stand it. So, i asked the waiter if i could exchange it for some plain sliders. The seats were covered in dirt and leaves, and the waitress didn't offer to clean them off before we sat down. As I was wearing white that day, my boyfriend had to clean off the seats while the server just stood by. Once seated, we ordered our drinks. We got the watermelon mojito myself and a mango margarita for my boyfriend. To our surprise, we were told the happy hour didn't apply due to the holiday, even though this wasn't stated on the menu and we weren't informed when we called ahead. We also ordered the poutine fries as an appetizer, along with wings, French fries, and side salads. When the poutine arrived, it was a large platter, and I asked the server if it was the appetizer size. She told me it was the full size. I explained we didn't realize there were two sizes and wanted the smaller portion. She took it back, but later returned looking a bit irritated, asking, "You didn't want that size?" If there was two options, that's something the waiter should have specified when taking our order. As for the food, it was just "alright." The wings had a nice crunch, but the flavor was lacking. The chicken wasn't well-seasoned, and the "hottest" flavor didn't pack the heat I was expecting. The poutine was decent, but not memorable. The drinks were amazing though, the right amount of balance of sweet and flavor. If I return I'll reorder the same drinks. To top it off, we were halfway through our meal before receiving our drinks.
