The ambiance is very nice, with good Mexican music and a family-friendly atmosphere. We ordered some Aguachiles, Guacamole, Ceviche de Camarón, Camarones de Cilantro, Carne, a la Mexicana, which comes with tortillas and consume. The food was delicious, and the beers were cold as always. My total bill was $265.99 with tip, and it was worth it. Although this place is always pricey, you're paying for quality, not quantity. It's been years since I've been to this small chain but first time to the Norwalk location. This review is for the happy hour menu in which I believe it deserves 4.5 stars. Service from Jackie was amazing. She made sure we knew of the popular items from the very surprising large selection of happy hour food items. My foodie companion and I shared a queso fundido con chorizo and she wanted a Mexican candy shot. We both ordered 3 tacos. Found myself in Norwalk and came across this place with a huge menu selection and a bomb happy hour menu (mon-thurs 3-7pm for the food selection) I asked the server what I should get and he was so sweet and recommended one his fav dishes the enchilada suiza, basically wrapped chicken in a creamy tangy green sauce. The sauce was different than what I've had in other places so it was a very fun try! It was so savory yet so tangy and complimented the juicy chicken filling well. I also would have to say I was really impressed by the rice. It was bursting with flavorful and the perfect consistency. A family of 4 can eat for under $60 from the happy hour menu and the plates are just the right amount. I need to spotlight the staff here because each time we come, they are always so friendly and provide excellent customer service. The food is fresh, comes out quickly, and the place itself is nice and can accommodate large parties. I usually get the cheese enchilada plate, sometimes I'll get the chile relleno plate, but most recently I tried the camarones gobernador and man o' man was it GOOD! There's a queso fundido served on a cast iron that is topped with chorizo as an appetizer. Wrap it up in their handmade tortilla and wash it down with a cold cerveza. They have a great happy hour too! Sit on the bar side, it's super chill and lots of TV's where you can watch sports. The happy hour drinks are all night but the food is only until 7pm which is perfect because we shouldn't be eating too late, right? The horchata is probably the best in town, and it is hard to find good horchata for some reason in Norwalk. The servers were very upbeat and attentive, they weren't hovering over us which was great. As far as the ambiance, it was nice a roomy, they have the tables set up buffet style where they're lined up in a room. My favorites are fajitas mixtas, caldo de res, carne en salsa roja, and coctel de camarones y pulpo, but everything I've tried is usually good. The housemade corn tortillas, rice and refried beans are delicious but I occasionally sub out the rice for mixed vegetables (sauteed potato, zucchini and carrots) for an added charge or whole beans instead of refried. Very disappointed with my experience at Los Compadres. The food is mediocre at best. We had the ceviche combinado, the tacos and some other dish (can't remember what it was right now, it was that forgettable) and it was all pretty tasteless. I've been to other Mexican restaurants with much better food. Also found it to be quite expensive. The server was kind. Poor guy was doing his job as best he can. My friends and I went to a store nearby and had heard this restaurant was great. It was actually incredible. We were so impressed with their food. First, there is plenty of parking in the center. We went on a Monday evening and it was lively and got even busier as we were leaving. They greeted us quickly and served us chips and salsa which it was obvious they were freshly made. We ordered the carne asada plate, the chicken breast with chipotle sauce, and the pollo a la plancha. All the plates came with rice and beans. One of my FAV mexican restaurants, which I hadn't been to in about a year. Wow the prices have gone way up! Bummer, but the food and service still excellent. We visited in the afternoon on a Saturday and were seated right away. Not crowded at all, and lots of seating if you have to wait. Hostess, Waitress and Manager were all so nice and helpful. We also got the queso fundido and I believe this is the best queso anywhere in the LA/OC area!! For our meals, we ordered the bean and cheese burrito, a carne asada burrito and a fajitas plate. Kids really enjoyed their burrito and the portion size was great. The fajitas were spectacular - OMG sizzling, juicy, fresh. The shrimp was so plump and cooked perfectly, along with the vegetables.
