Mariscos Choix is one of those local seafood gems that often gets overlooked, tucked right into the heart of downtown Downey on busy Firestone. I came in for a solo Monday lunch, and somehow this team made it feel like a lively weekend visit. The service, the food, the atmosphere--everything hit the spot. I was waited on by Jairo, who delivered exceptional service from start to finish. He walked me through the menu, answered every question with patience and humor, and checked on me consistently without ever being intrusive. My drink never even had a chance to get low. His energy made the experience feel personal and genuinely welcoming. After I paid, Raymond, the manager, approached me to ask how everything went. He explained how much honest feedback helps them grow and tackle concerns, which I appreciated. He also told me about their live bands from Wednesday through Sunday--something I'll definitely be coming back to experience. Honestly, the only "concern" I had was how much I ate. Kudos to Raymond for caring about the business he manages and the staff. Now, the food. I ordered the Camarones Cucarachos 2.0, and let me tell you--get them shelled, not peeled. Peeling them yourself gives double the flavor and makes the whole dish more satisfying. The chipotle sauce they're cooked in is sweet with just the right touch of smokiness. I also had two Baja tacos, one fish and one shrimp. Both were reasonably sized, perfectly battered, and beautifully presented. Simple, clean, and delicious. To pair with my meal, I tried El Borracho, which felt like a Mexican twist on an Old Fashioned--Mexican whiskey blended with Maestro Dobel aged tequila, served in a smoking cloche. Smooth, aromatic, and memorable. I also had their popular Michelada with shrimp, which lived up to the hype. My first visit to Mariscos Choix was genuinely memorable. The staff's attentiveness, the quality of the food, and the welcoming atmosphere made this solo lunch feel special. I'll absolutely be returning soon. We went to Mariscos Choix on a Wednesday evening. The ambiance is nice, though the live music can be loud. We ordered the Mitotero with fish and shrimp ceviche, as well as the premium white fish a la diabla. The fish dish originally came out as shrimp, and when corrected, the fish smelled a bit fishy and seemed more like tilapia than premium white fish. I also had the cucumber jalapeño margarita, which was $20 but had great flavor. Overall, the food was unremarkable and pricey, but the atmosphere and service were good. read more

I celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here with his family, and everyone was incredibly happy with the food! Just a heads up that they don't do reservations under party sizes of 8, so we waited about an hour to be seated. The inside is super cute and vacation-themed, and they had live music in the back when we went. I ordered the baja fish tacos, and my boyfriend ordered tostada rebelde. We also ordered some drinks: the Nemo, a paloma, and a margarita. The food was delicious - it tasted so fresh, and all of the flavors worked together beautifully. All of the salsas had a nice kick! The portions were also super generous. I appreciated that they were able to make adjustments to food, especially if it had raw shrimp in it. My boyfriend's brother got aguachiles but with cooked shrimp, and it was so light and refreshing. The waitress was attentive and on top of getting us more drinks, getting us more chips, and clearing the table in general. My only complaint was that they had seated us right up against the performers, and it was too loud to have a conversation with other people at the table. Came here on a Friday night with the wife and baby. Boy is this place lively. They had a live band going around playing music which added to a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately we were unprepared with headphones/ear buds for the baby, but she luckily slept through the whole dinner. We ordered an aquachile, octopus tacos, and fish tacos. All the food was absolutely delicious, especially the octopus tacos, definitely 10/10 will oeder every time. The cocktails here were also quite strong and delicious. Good variety of flavors, would have to try different ones the next visit. Manager came by after our meal to check up on us. Think it was because we had our baby and it was really loud (our fault for not being prepared). Very nice gesture that he gave us a free aquachile voucher for our next visit. Decided to visit Mariscos Choix for today's world cup final! Arrived just before kick off so luckily it wasn't super packed yet. They did have live mariachi playing, as we were taken to our seating I couldnt help but notice the very modern aesthetic decor! The setting was live and bumping! We were sat in the makeshift back area that provided plenty of shade. Cooling misters were on the entire time which definitely helped with this Los Angeles heat! Food was delicious, I love mariscos, their tostadas de pescados were a home run for me. The tacos governador and aguachiles were delicious. Their coctel de camaron was average.
