This restaurant opened not too long ago so I thought coming during Dine Out Vancouver would be a good idea. I thought wrong and I would not recommend it. I would like to disclose that I have not been to this restaurant for regular dining, so experience outside of Dine Out could be better.
Ambiance of the restaurant and food presentation was great but the food was subpar.. which admittedly sometimes happens during dine out because the kitchen is pumping out these dishes like a factory assembly line.
Everything tasted over cooked or dry (the torched kusshi, the duck and the Arctic char).
finer details - the blackberries in the burrata salad weren't even ripe.
You can say I'm being picky, but this new hotel and its restaurants are branded as upscale (Cask, Sushi Kiwami) so we had higher expectations ... but they lacked basic dining service knowledge.
- they are clearly busy and understaffed. We sat down for almost 10 minutes before anyone came to offer us water or a drink. we also had to look for our server throughout the night for services such as refilling water, and even serving utensils. To explain, their dine out menu is designed to be shared, so everything is served family style. Aside from the oyster course, they did not provide any serving utensils for the rest of the menu. We tried to manage, until the Arctic Char course which came in a bowl with clams, mussels and a sauce. Our utensils were a fork and a steak knife from the meat platter course. We are still in a pandemic so we are extra sensitive about hygiene, and the 4 of us tried to fish out shellfish using our steak knives because we already ate with our forks. We waited a while before we could get someone's attention for a serving spoon. For dessert, the rustic tiramisu was also served in a large bowl, but no serving spoon for the table.
- we were only halfway through the meat platter (the duck and the wagyu), and they served our Arctic char seafood bowl which also had clams and mussels. By the time we finished the meat, the fish and seafood were cold and quite frankly, not enjoyable. I could've asked the server to take it back, but 1) they would probably just leave it under a heater and the fish was already extremely dry and 2) the diner shouldn't have to ask - it's basic manners to let us finish our current dish before serving us the next dish
Again, you might think I'm nitpicking, but the dine out menu for this restaurant is $59, which is the same as Five Sails and Hawksworth. If you are considering this restaurant for dine out, I can without a doubt advise you to spend your money at the other 2 aforementioned restaurants instead and you will have a better experience. read more
