They have a prime corner location that practically begs you to visit simply for the nostalgia of it. Immediately upon entry, I was greeted by an employee who walked up to me offering free samples. The cookies are good! They are rich, dense, and everything you want in a shortbread cookie but you can tell the butter is not your typical butter. If you're not familiar with brown butter, it's something you have to try. It's rich, bold, and nutty. Which made the cookies rich and full transparency, it helped me to eat less cookies. I can easily down a dozen cookies on my own, but in this case, I savored them because they were on the dense side. The original Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies are the original flavor and most popular, but they also have lemon zest, which was a nice summer flavor. Not too heavy on the lemon and it had the base of the brown butter sea salt. I also had Chocolate Chip Brown Butter cookies. The chocolate is Ghirardelli chocolate. Other flavors that I didn't get the chance to try are Snickerdoodle, and Toffee Chocolate. They sell the cookies individually, in bags of 2, 6, a dozen, and gift boxes are also available. Prices are a bit steep at a little over a dollar per cookie, but totally worth it if you don't have the chance to eat them often. They have a website and you can shop online. Delicious and unique cookies in the heart of downtown Paso! I don't think Brown Butter Cookie could possibly have a better location, right across from the park and at a crosswalk, it's almost impossible to miss them. I first came in back in 2019 and really enjoyed sampling all the different flavor cookies they had. They had quite the variety and each one was tasty. Since Covid hit they stopped doing samples for a while, but on my most recent visit they were doing them once again! This time it was only one of their flavors instead of a bunch, but it was still good to be reminded on how good these cookies are! It seems like they don't have as many flavors as they used to, but they have some new ones that I don't remember seeing in the past, including a partnership with Ghirardelli to use their chocolate chips in some. Owner Traci introduced herself and told us all about the cookies. They make them on site and are available for delivery and/or shipping. The cookies melt in your mouth! I bought a stack for $20. The customer service was excellent. If you haven't tried their cookies, you're missing out--they are heavenly. I always bring a tower of cookies back for the family. This place has lots of great reviews, so maybe I'm missing what the hype is about. We stopped in and tried a sample, got a gift for my mom, and 2 big chocolate chip cookies for the ride home. Small packet of short bread cookies and 2 chocolate chip cookies came to over $20. Just seemed like a tourist trap. I was intrigued by the name and wanted to check it out. The girls that work inside were very helpful. They did have samples of all their different flavors. Their original is the best of them all and they also recommended the cocoa and of the cinnamon flavors. I went with the espresso flavor since my parents would like the coffee taste to it. They also had a bunch of you have different packaging for the cookies. You can buy an individual cookie or if you got a pack up a couple of them. I went with the sealed packs which can last up to three weeks because they are heat sealed. The parking situation around the downtown the park area has been a little bit tough to find. 90 degree temperature outside, casually strolling downtown Paso Robles, walked into Brown Butter Cookie for the first time and were so impressed by the shortbread sample. The woman passing out the samples was offended/upset (either thought I was stupid and/or just giving her a hard time), I asked what percentage of cacao was in the samples. I HAD NO IDEA that the samples were shortbread - it was so hot out and we simply casually walked in and out of all the retail establishments which appeared to be aesthetically pleasant. After touring the store and seeing their attractive packaging, I asked how much some items were to my surprise finding that they were specializing in SHORTBREAD and not chocolate. I shared that and apologized immediately and then was intrigued as to what I should purchase as a closing gift for my soon to close seller's COE. Their shortbread is OUTSTANDING! We tasted the Ghirardelli enhanced chocolate sample (remember - I thought it was either chocolate or fudge until I actually tasted it), and then I purchased their large (own brand) large variety pack. Regan was excellent, as was Devon in the San Luis Obispo store. While my mom and my friend went to get a massage, I came here lol I m not sure why these cookies were $1.50 a piece (bite size cookies). It was made with just sugar, salt and butter. I initially was drawn to Brown Butter Cookie while looking for gift ideas in downtown Paso Robles and spotted the cookie gift boxes through the shop window. The store associates were very friendly and welcoming, and they offered me a sample of their brown butter cookies. The cookies were sweet and rich with a sandy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Most of the cookies they sell are small, about the diameter of a golf ball, but they are dense and satisfying. Some of the gift packages included larger, flatter cookies as well. While I had hoped that the cookies would have tasted more "fresh-out-of-the-oven," I understand it might not be logistically possible to package up freshly-baked cookies (given the high butter content). The original brown butter cookie is a favorite but they used to have a lot of other cool flavors like espresso, almond and pecan that I miss. I was bummed to see they no longer have those. The hours of operation conflict with our work schedule so every time my friends and I were downtown and tried to go, they either didn't open yet because it was too early in the morning, or they were closed because it was too late in the evening.  Luckily, we passed by on our way to dinner and was able to catch the store open. It was just before closing so we barely made it again. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and offered samples. Yes, please. I first tried the espresso. Wow! That was amazing. The espresso flavour is really prominent. I also tried the pecan and the original. The texture was crumbly & soft and reminded me of shortbread cookies. Visually, they look like sugar cookies. The lady offering the samples was pleasant, bubbly, and inviting. She seemed genuinely happy to offer us samples. The cashier on the other hand seemed stern and disgruntled. I felt compelled to purchase cookies because of her seemingly piercing, disapproving stares of us sampling multiple flavours. Of course, when it came time to make a decision on which flavour to buy, I was indecisive. So, what do I do? ...I'm glad you asked!! :) I bought 3 small bags, 1 cinnamon, 1 espresso, and 1 pecan. Each bag had 3 cookies and cost $4 each. My friends all got a bag of the 6x cookies, which cost $8. The cookies are a bit pricy but, surprisingly, no added tax. What an amazing find. We went to Paso Robles for a wedding and walked around the downtown area to explore. My friend bought some cookies back to our Airbnb and we were all addicted. In particular, we LOVE the brown butter sea salt cookie with honey, it's thin and comes in 3 pack or 6 pack. After the wedding we went back to the shop before heading back to nor cal. I was stupid enough once I heard the total price to continue with the sale instead of cancelling and walking out. What a dummy. The grand total was $80.00!!! Holy idiot mistake!!! That means Brown Butter cookies are about $23.00-$25.00 per pound!!! Don't get me wrong. I love Brown Butter cookies, but they're not that good. I'll likely never buy them again unless I'd rather have cookies than filet mignon, but it's doubtful. I included a photo of the cookies I bought and a photo of filet mignon from Costco. With COVID restrictions, the Paso Robles location has the register and display at the door of their store. No seating past what you'd find publicly. There was plenty of street parking in the area, including diagonal parking ringing the entire green. Overall, my family has repeatedly remarked about coming back here specifically if we're in the area again. We hadn't actually even tried the sample. The shop was so cute and well designed that it would fit into Main Street U.S.A. in the happiest place on Earth.
