Black Sheep Sourdough Micro-Bakery is a small-batch shop in Paso Robles from Paula Kopper, a woman who only began baking two years prior to opening when her spouse developed gluten sensitivity requiring a change in diet. Previously operating her own daycare, test batches of Bread developed after an internet search often finding their way home with pupils and their parents, July 2025 finally saw Kopper open up shop at 1306 Pine Street where her goods now frequently sell-out daily. Working exclusively with a Sourdough starter named Dough-Rita, even Black Sheep's Cookies subject to traditional fermentation, guests now will find both sweet and savory treats alongside full loaves with clever names like "The Basic B" and "Mob Boss." Originally sold at the Paso Robles Farmers Market, opening of a storefront delayed as she relied on friends and family for everything from paint to plumbing, May 2026 now sees Paula regularly trying new things ranging from hefty Cinnamon Rolls to an absolutely stellar Sourdough Blondie that starts sweet and sticky before dissipating with an almost boozy sort of linger. Even though Black Sheep was super busy, the service and staff were exceptional! A couple of customers were super nice and allowed two of us to squeeze into a community table. Our orders were taken quickly and food delivered timely. It was a fun dining experience. read more

We found this shop quite accidentally on our way to Morro Bay and were thrilled at all of the neat bread we were able to buy day old! We also ate breakfast there and while I personally found the cinnamon roll a bit dry, the breakfast bun was so delightful. It has eggs and bacon in it so it was a perfect breakfast bite! The owners were there and were so incredibly friendly and helpful. The shop itself is very small but we were able to sit down to sip some delicious hot coffee while we scarfed carbs. Stopped here on my way back home to southern California. It's a nice little bakery; however, it felt a little overpriced. I also had difficulty finding out what was in each bread. They had just names of the different loaves without any descriptions of the ingredients that could be found in each. I asked the person working the counter if she could describe for me what was in each, and she just repeated back the names (which were not descriptive of the ingredients). read more

Simply Divine! Was able to try Black Sheep on my latest visit to paso and I was amazed. The owner Paula gave me a brief overview of her process and you can tell she's passionate about her craft. My favorite stop on our most recent trip. They make all the items using sourdough. On a Saturday around 9:30 AM they had already sold out of a few items. White chocolate raspberry scone - A really interesting texture, almost reminding me of a fritter with the inside of it feeling almost bread-y. This was sort of the underdog surprise of the items. The taste, texture, and flavor were perfect. Cinnamon roll - It was so soft, chewy, and fresh. The frosting complimented the dough perfectly. Green Goddess loaf - This bread had pesto and cheese swirled throughout. The texture of the loaf was perfect, with such a nice crunch on top and bottom. Apple cinnamon roll/danish - This was like a mix between a brioche, roll, and donut. We ate everything in one day, and it all tasted so fresh. We ate three of our four items in 30 minutes. Even though the chocolate chip cookie is a number one seller, I think the cinnamon roll is the best. The way the sourdough and frosting complement each other is divine. Plus the cinnamon roll is huge. I like to take mine home and warm it up. - The team is welcoming and speedy. I appreciate that the owner replies to emails directly. The shop is small and I like the branding of the mascot (black sheep) on the bags and stickers. - My only request is that you consider changing from plastic to-go containers to eco friendly compostable or cardboard. So so happy we decided to drop in before heading home. We got sourdough bread, scones, jalapeno focaccia and a chocolate kolache. The sourdough bread was exactly that and nothing fancy but super yummy toasted with butter. The focaccia was dense and soft, also really good. We also enjoyed the scone and chocolate kolache. It is DA BOMB! My brother and I found this sweet little bakery because we had been wine tasting at LXV the day before. This isn't your normal bakery. I got a bacon egg and cheese "bomb" and it was absolutely amazing. Who would have thought to put all normal topping inside sourdough bread? YUM! Black Sheep "Everything Sourdough" Bakery really should be the name. Founded by Paula and Matt, they really know what their doing. I tried a smattering of items: Blueberry scone, Cinnamon Roll, a Ukrainian Raspberry sweet cheese "danish", and a everything chocolate chip cookie. Everything was divine, including a Garlic Sourdough bread which the gf and I devoured in a couple of days. The scone with a bit of spicy heat and the campfire was a deep dish style chocolate chip cookie with graham cracker, marshmallow and a hershey's chocolate. We had a wonderful time at this bakery. We were in town for my birthday and found this place randomly. What a gem! The owner is super nice and kind, even giving our two puppies treats. A co-worker has literally been sharing single bites (that alone was a sign!) of some of the fare at Black Sheep Sourdough - and it left me with - I gotta go! Cute, clean and roomy with a friendly and helpful staff. Blueberry scone- moist deliciously sweetly tart with a zing! The sourdough structure offers a beautifully crusted outside layer with the airy sponge interior. Cinnamon Roll- It really stacks up.. the sweet and creamy frosting isn't overwhelmingly sugary and the sourdough variety takes on whole new flavors that omit the typically overpowering yeast taste in what one considers a "traditional cinnamon roll". Not a huge fan of sugary.. so this dish was the ticket! Great cinnamon flavor without the super sweet. Was in a hurry as more "breakfast bombs" were on their way to the lineup.... Next time! Stopped by with my husband late Saturday morning and realized we should have come earlier - holiday weekend so we missed out on the cinnamon rolls. He had a raspberry sweet cheese "danish" and I had a blueberry sweet cheese "danish" (pictured). His disappeared before I could get a picture. This baker knows what she's doing! Both were delicious and just sweet enough - you could really taste the fruit. They are large! I think we could have shared but DH didn't. He said that was a great early lunch. They warmed them up for us so we could sit down inside with a cup of coffee and enjoy them. I bought a loaf of basic sourdough to take home - they also had several different flavors - garlic, etc. as well as mini loaves. Omg thank you Yelp for sending me to Black Sheep Sourdough! Wow this place is the real deal! I've been to alot of pastry and sourdough shops and this one instantly became a favorite. I got the seasonal pumpkin sourdough loaf and the garlic Parmesan loaf, plus their egg and bacon sourdough bomb, they were all absolutely delicious! The bread was chewy, warm and full of flavor. Everything tasted so natural and didn't have any artificial taste, just pure ingredients like my family use to make. I also got their sourdough chocolate chip cookie and Twix, cinnamon bun, blueberry and walnut muffin. And yes, I know, that's a lot but our family loves bread and we've tried pastry shops all around the world, but this is by far our favorite. When I asked the owner if she could slice the loaves for me , the owner kindly offered to try, even though the bread was still soft and might fall apart. I really appreciated the extra effort, she was so kind and great customer service. The only thing I wish is that they open a spot on the Westside of LA. I would go there every morning if it was closer! I guess I'll just have to make a trip to Paso for the bread (and wine). I guess it's not a bad thing. Food: Everything here is made with sourdough and all baked goods and made the "old fashioned" way with simple ingredients you can pronounce! The jalapeño cheese loaf is lovely and actually has a kick to it! I also purchased a cheese, ham and egg bomb, cinnamon roll and sourdough chocolate chip cookie and all were delicious. Also, compared to other baked goods, I didn't feel gross, bloated or heavy after eating Black Sheep! This is such a cute micro bakery run by great people. Just discovered Black Sheep Sourdough and I'm so glad I did!! After a disappointing birthday weekend brunch at a nearby restaurant, I needed something to restore my faith in Paso. After a warm welcome, my daughter and I selected a cinnamon roll, a sugar cookie and a raspberry cheese roll. We took our items to go. What was supposed to be "a quick bite" to satisfy my curiosity before heading home, turned into me devouring the AMAZING raspberry roll. The cinnamon roll and cookie were just as yummy....
