Brown Butter is a niche bakery whose highlight is the shortbread cookies. They do offer other cooked in packs of six that you can arrange by flavor, to your liking. There are generous samples of their baked goods. Admittedly, my husband noshed on the samples and was too full for an individual desert of which I partook. The bakery is cute and well arranged. Product is packed in their signature labels and packaging made it so tempting to want to buy all the things. No trip to the central coast is complete without a trip to BBC. In fact we stopped in 3 days in a row this trip. We haven't been here in over a year/ so our cravings were high. Omg- the honey cookies are so delicious I can't stop eating them. These cookies are incredible. There are so many styles and flavors to try. When you enter the shop there are people passing out samples which always feels like a special treat. Favorites are the smaller brown butter sea salt cookies in any flavor but you can't go wrong with the Origin flavor. Cocoa and Lemon are fantastic too. I have been taking my kids here for years on our annual road trip up the central coast. Honestly, I have always thought they were overpriced, but my kids liked, them and the unique hand rolled shape made the higher cost for the cookies justified, I guess. They DO NOT taste the same. The hand rolled ones had a top layer that was almost crust like. The new ones do not have that. 3. I noticed that they have a "Partnership" with Ghirardelli. These aren't your normal cookies. They don't look like, smell like, feel like, or especially taste like your typical cookie. They're a little smaller, denser, crumbly-er, not exactly "dry" but it's not a wet bendy cookie. They're so good. Maybe almost a chalky texture but that would sound gross. The original Brown Butter Sea Salt has a bit of an odd, maybe bitter taste at first, and then you just realize it's the delish salty butter flavor. Mmmmmmm. The price is a bit steep, basically over $1 per cookie, and they're a bit on the small side. But they're freakin delicious. If you have a reason to come to Cayucos, this is a must stop. What a great little cookie shop! You step in and they offer you samples, so you can start your journey into the world of sweet. I loved looking around at all the flavors they offer, with packs of cookies all on the tables and shelves, plus fresh cookies ready to purchase, which they will either package for you to take to go or prepare for you to have right away. One of my favorite things about this shop is you walk in and can see all the magic, the stop is open and right on the corner a block away from the beach. You couldn't have a bad day coming here. They have a "for everyone" cookie which is gf, nut free, and I think vegan or maybe soy free. Found out about this place through fellow yelper, Chris D., who recommended this place as one of few good stopping points when traveling up to Cambria. These aren't your traditional, flat round cookies. These are more like shortbread cookies, which are dense and crumbly. These are more buttery than sweet, and have a slightly salty taste from sea salt. It does offer traditional, soft cookies too, but thought they were mediocre. For first time visitors, I recommend just sticking with its specialty brown butter cookies. I really liked the original brown butter cookies, but the espresso and cocoa ones were just as good. Wanted to try more flavors but this place doesn't offer any multi-flavor pack for its signature cookies. You can only purchase as a 3-pack, half dozen, dozen, or double dozen of the same flavor, and there isn't any discount for purchasing larger quantity, with the exception of double dozen, which is only a $1 discount. At the time of my visit there were 7 different flavors for its brown butter cookies - original, cocoa, cinnamon, espresso, pecan, cocoa mint, and almond.
