Absolutely delicious hand scooped vanilla ice cream! That's what I always order when the mini schnauzer is with us, so she can have a little treat, too. Super nice guy behind the counter. I ordered the junior scoop, which was decent sized. The hubby got a regular, which was like two small scoops. Cute store, lots of candies and goodies. read more

We were jonesing for ice cream when the Harmony spot wasn't open and drove on down to Cayucos. Candy Counter was quite a find! Their ice cream ($5 kids, $6 single scoop, $9 double) was some of the best we've had around SLO and the gelato ($6 small) was the authentic Italian deal! We tried the butter pecan and honey churro ice cream and the mista gelato and all three were heavenly. The best part was our server who was so friendly, so helpful, and just had the best attitude. He made the visit even more memorable. The candy all looked fresh and fun - amazing considering the extensive selection of gourmet artisan truffles to vintage candy brands of childhood. This is no tourist trap. Locals and visitors, check it out when you're headed to the Cayucos pier. read more

$18 per pound for Jelly Belly, $18 per pound for licorice... and nobody was at the candy counter...

Very expensive and greedy will upcharge you if your are not careful and do not watch every little move

Even though we just polished off the legendary smoked salmon tacos at Ruddell's Smokehouse nearby (review: https://bit.ly/3n3G7KG), Jamie W. and I found something very alluring about finding an ice cream parlor at the base of the popular Cayucos Pier. You may already know Cayucos is a popular beach town on the Central Coast but not nearly as crowded as Pismo Beach. The more casual vibe made it more conducive for us to split a $6.50 Double Scoop Cup. We deserved two flavors, we felt, so we went with Coconut Pineapple (a slam dunk) and Moose Tracks (photo: https://bit.ly/38Ppl9U). OK, Jamie chose Moose Tracks since the name sounded to me like, well, what you find in your underwear when...oh, you know. But it was actually vanilla streaked with fudge and peanut butter. Nothing wrong with that. ICE CREAM - 4 stars...creamy goodness AMBIANCE - 4 stars...an old-fashioned sweets shop SERVICE - 3.5 stars...friendly enough TOTAL - 4 stars...get two flavors, you deserve it RELATED - Exploring California's Central Coast? My husband wanted ice cream so we were happy to find they have ice cream besides candy. Although I wish they would give samples before you buy, I picked strawberry and mint chip. Both were excellent! My husband got death by chocolate and peaches and cream (or something like that). The peaches was good too. I didn't try the chocolate as I'm not a big chocolate person. He seemed to like what he got. We also picked up some Jelly Belly's which you could get by flavor and not just a mixed bag of flavors which was good too. Happy to have this place avaiable while we were staying in Cayucos! read more

Very overpriced and staff was a bit grumpy. I wouldn't return and would rather drive elsewhere than go back.

Nice selection of candy--some old-fashioned choices I haven't seen in years. Tasty ice cream--got mine in a waffle cone because my parents never let me as a kid but now I am an adult with my own money so I went for it! Friendly service, too, which is always a plus! Glad I stopped in on a whim. read more

Cayucos Candy Counter - Sundae in a waffle cone! - Candy Stores Near Me - Cayucos, California

This is such a cute candy store. My mom found taffy and my little one picked out some old fashioned candy. We ordered an iced coffee to-go. It was cold and lovely. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Definitely a nice place to stop after a walk down the boardwalk. read more

Get all your candy needs ... salt water taffy , ice cream !! Old time candy . Great service !! Wall to Wall candy !

I wanted an ice cream cone and, as far as I know, this is really the only place in town to get one. And it's fine for that. The ice cream isn't amazing, but it tastes fine. I think there were about a dozen ice cream options and a dozen gelato options to choose from. Two older women were working when I was there and they were not very friendly. They snapped at a couple of the customers, including a child. There was also a customer there who I think was tipsy who was not wearing her mask properly and who kept walking up to other customers really closely, who the employees didn't say anything to even though they had said stuff to other people who were being perfectly polite. FYI: they won't mix ice cream and gelato in the same cup - I don't know why. They were out of all cones (plain, sugar, waffle) when I was there, they said they were having trouble getting supplies. If you are barefoot with sand caked on your feet, they will ask you to leave and clean up before coming back in. They had a sign saying no malts or milkshakes when I was there. read more

One word; AFFOGATO! Omgosh! I discovered something new! I like coffee and chocolate but not together. That is until now!!" I asked Dave (adorable Barista that works there) what an affogato was and tried it and love it! It's dark chocolate gelato with a shot of espresso topped with whipped cream. Sounds whatever but the combo is unique and addicting. My husband and I visit seasonally and sometimes make the ride, via Harley, just for the fun of it. We enjoy the fun candies of our childhood and finding new stuff for the grandkids. Now when we go cruising if there is a place that serves affogatos I order one but honest haven't found a place between Camarillo and Cayucos that comes close to matching the craving I get for Dave's Affogato. It's worth the drive from Camarillo. read more

Excellent gelato. Customer service is off the charts. So friendly and always a pleasure full experience when we go. Every time we go to the beach we stop in here. Always a ten plus. Thank you candy corner read more

Make sure you read the price tags before you purchase cause all sales are final and they don't tell you that unless it's in 12 point font somewhere. They seek ice cream but don't expect to get an ice cream cone. They are trained to say no to everything, employees are so fun to talk too! Just kidding.. Terrible ice cream too, don't get salted caramel, was so excited to bring my family in and then it was a terrible experience. If there was another place i wish i would have checked out rite aid thriftys over this over prices shit hole. i get biden is president and inflation is here but no 12 dollars for 2 M&M's candy bar.. read more

Cute candy shop with a variety of treats to choose from. Kind of on the smaller side. They also have a small ice cream shop, but the ice cream didn't look all great. I ended up purchasing their chocolate truffles: peanut butter and milk chocolate. They were big and decently priced. It's a nice place to go inside to pass time, but otherwise you could skip it. read more

God bless a place that caters to tourists and can afford to be open just four days week for 6 hours a day in the peak summer months. Looking for some dessert on your vacation? Try the gas station or the liquor store, because even on days that they're open, this place closes at 5:00 PM. Their prerogative of course, but I wish a competitor would open a candy/ice cream shop with more convenient/realistic hours. read more

Cute place! We came in for gelato and it was delicious. We ate it right outside on one of the little benches out there. It's right next to the pier and beach area. A little kid's heaven, basically! read more

Cayucos Candy Counter - Dark chocolate gelato - Candy Stores Near Me - Cayucos, California

Ok, so if I were a Cayucos local and grew up there I'm sure I'd have some cute little story of how this place makes rainbows appear and makes the unicorns in my dreams come to life. However, this place is just like any old candy shop with less choices and more expensive prices. Granted, they are a specialty shop in quite a small beach town and their prices would be expected to be a little higher. If you're in Cayucos to get candy, there are cheaper places to get it but with not as good of a selection. Candy Counter has an array of choices and exceptional customer service with a small town mom & pop shop type of feel (well, because it is a mom & pop shop). Come here to visit some old friends (if you're a local) or if you want to support the small businesses. However, go somewhere else if you just want a cheap sugar fix (perhaps, Albertsons in Morro Bay). read more

Cayucos Candy Counter is a great place for a quick caffeine or ice cream/gelato fix. Or grab something when heading out of town. Employees helpful and quick. Shops tend to close early around here and I was happy to find the Candy shop open. Its at a great location close to the pier. They have limited seating outside. This will be our go to place to stop for coffee and snacks on the way back home. read more

Lousy ice cream service. No cones. Limit of 2 flavors even when ordering large size. Never seen such a place.

This place has amazing truffles. We came back here every day during our trip to Cayucos. They have a huge selection of other treats. They have gelato, ice cream, coffee drinks, etc. The store is clean and the service friendly. $4.25 for a double scoop cone. Not bad for a vacation town! This place must be part of your Cayucos experience. read more

I want to give this place a better rating but the staff just never seems to know what they're doing OR they're totally unwelcoming and have a slight attitude problem. It's a shame, it's such an adorable store and they have decent ice cream. I recommend you try their taffy as well, they have a wide selection of quality candy. I'm a regular visitor but they'd never know considering they don't have that kind of staffing who would notice. read more

I'm always in cayucos collecting beach glass so today I decided to give the candy counter a chance. Upon walking into the cute little shop I was warmly greeted by two young ladies. They have so many options to choose from if you have a sweet tooth! The honey and lavender gelato is to die for!!! I don't know why they have any bad reviews because the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and there's so many options to choose from! Crowded, hot and quaint describes my recent brush with the Candy Counter. I went in solely for salt water taffy and left feeling like I got jipped by the high prices. Although to be honest it's a tourist trap right near the beach so what did I really expect? A question that still haunts me to this day. I didn't try the gelato or any of the other candy, but loved the trip down memory lane with the abundance of Warheads among other candy favorites from my childhood. The lines for the gelato was a little unreal for such a small establishment. I feel like that crowd was onto something though. I should have taken the hint and gotten some gelato for myself so that was this review would have had some real meat to it. Sorry guys. Gelato wasn't in my cards that day. Outside of the place being crowded and it's size (which can only be described as 'quaint') this place was hot. I've never been in an establishment that sells food that was hotter inside than it was outside and it was an 78 degree day outside. I felt like I was going to pass out, but my visit was short lived as my friend paid for his salt water taffy and left. The staff wasn't memorable by any means. A smile was had, but no extra courteousness went beyond that. It was just standard customer service. read more

So sweet...my family vacations across the street here every year and we always have to get the gelato. However, what prompted my review this year was how sweet one of your employees was-my husband and I were doing our customary visit with our dog and one of the employees saw our pup and offered one of their yogurt dipped dog treats that had been broken and couldn't be sold. She even asked permission before giving it to our dog. I absolutely LOVE businesses that are dog friendly! 5 paws from our baby. read more

This is a very cute little candy shop right near the pier in Cayucas. They have all the regular prepackaged candies, some craft sodas, an ice cream counter, plus a counter with specialty chocolates and fudge. For being right near the pier, the prices were really good. I got a piece of peanut butter fudge, a specialty chocolate with cherry flavored chocolate and nuts, and a pineapple craft soda. The fudge was a little better than average, the chocolate was very good and the craft soda was excellent. The lady working the counter was switching back-and-forth between ice cream counter and the chocolate counter, which are separated for some odd reason. She did a very good job of handling all the customers and was very friendly. read more

A variety of candy is offered. Mainly old fashioned candy. I had fun picking from the different assortments of taffy. Taffy is a must when visiting the beach. The downside is that It was pretty pricey compared to other similar candy stores. I would visit again if I was in the area. read more

Cayucos Candy Counter - Candy Stores Near Me - Cayucos, California

Pam has a great local establishment and I have been patronizing here for years. Husband Jim and daughter Bonnie can always be spotted helping out, and all her crew are very friendly and efficient. My go to candy is her yummy chocolate covered gummy bears and my wife's choice are the cola bottles. She has premium tasting bulk candy and best prices of any candy stores. Her milk chocolate salted caramels are the best I have ever tasted. I'm not a big ice cream person but anytime you go in here, warm or cold weather, the ice cream counter is always packed. This place is great for us locals but if you ever are traveling through make this a stop. And ignore any of the negative reviews those people don't understand a good local mom-and-pop candy store! read more

When the Candy Counter used to be part of the weigh station building it was the place to go after report cards were given out at Cayucos School, at least in my family. Depending on our grades we were allowed to pick out a certain amount of candy or an ice cream as a whoohooo!! This usually only took me about half an hour... candy and ice cream available and i need to pick one - AHHHH!! Also, the owners back then were very family oriented and always treated everyone in the town like part of that family - catching up the local gossip, etc. Now that the CC has moved to a the "built up" section of the "main strip" it's gone down on my taste list. It's very sunny in that area and the candy is always near the window so sometimes it gets warm and soft. It just doesn't have the same like-a-bility that did years and years ago. read more
