We arrived an hour before closing on Tuesday. Because they're closed Wednesday they gave us 50% off the cookies. We tried the lemon cookie, peanut butter cookie, and chocolate chip. The lemon was my absolute favorite. The texture was fantastic with a classic sugar cookie taste. I really wanted to try the orange vanilla cookie but they were sold out. The sugar cookies are where it's at. Peanut butter cookie was delicious but really crumbly. I didn't care for the chocolate chip. They really overcomplicated it with nuts and oats. Too much going on. What a great find. Sunday morning, little drizzle, looking for a sweet treat for the ride home. This place is on Main Street, don't miss it. The owner was working, super nice gentlemen, explained about his cookies, locally baked, flavors etc... told me there were free samples, to help myself. I had the pleasure of visiting Red Moose Cookie during my stay in Cambria. My friend and I were craving something sweet after having some lunch, so we thought a cookie sounded great. We were greeted by the sweetest man, who was likely the owner, and he gave us a great overview of his shop. There were samples of absolutely every cookie and brownie he had along the wall, and we were told to help ourselves to as many samples as we wanted. He explained how the white tongs had no nuts in case of allergies, which I thought was such a nice, small detail for guests. I left with three different bags of treats: the Nutless Wonder (described as a Cambria favorite), Oh Joy, and the Chocolate Fudge Brownie. All were delicious and very fairly priced. My favorite was indeed the Cambria favorite. They had an amazing texture and were full of flavor. Upon check out, I was introduced to the best helper, Charlotte (aka Charlie), the sweetest Corgi. She showed me her dinosaur toy, and she highly recommends the dog treats at checkout. My pups really enjoyed their treat once I made it home. We had a good experience at RMC. The lady who helped us was very friendly and patient as we decided what to order. The cookies are good but there are better in town. They are also pricey, but comparable to the cost at similar places nearby. There u is street parking, but during tourist seasons (May-Sept) or peak hours parking can be challenging in this area. Just park further and walk if necessary--there are lots of other shops near by to enjoy as well. On our visit they had low volume customers and the store was very quiet. We were there in the off-season (Oct-Nov). Worth giving these guys a try and see if u like any of their cookie "flavors." read more

Before they moved to their Main St. location in Cambria, I had the pleasure of stopping into the Red Moose Cookie shop before they sold out of cookies for the day. Back then, they were located in a different isolated part of Cambria. A Hidden GEM!! Happy to see, though, that they have moved into their current location. The owners changed in late 2021, but it looks like the shop is in fine hands with the new owners. The following were my favorite cookie flavors: Peanut Butter Dream Chocolate Chip Cookie Snickerdoodlicious All were absolutely delicious!!! Don't know if they still make those flavors, but I look forward to finding out in the near future. My absolute favorite item that I've tried at Red Moose Cookie is not even a cookie. It's a brownie, and the flavor is the Caramel Walnut Fudge Brownie! OMG!!! To this day, that brownie is still the BEST brownie that I have ever had the honor to eat!! We stopped by during our last trip to Cambria. I'll admit, I'm a regular at Brown Butter Cookie Company--I even dream about their cookies! My husband and son, however, aren't fans, so I usually just buy them for myself. This time, my family was eager to compare these cookies to Brown Butter's, and they unanimously agreed these were far better. We'll definitely be back to try more flavors. This place is dangerous!! Especially with the samples: you think you're just going to get a couple cookies and walk out with almost everything they have in stock. The brownies, something I wasn't planning on purchasing, but did, are the best milk chocolate brownies with huge chocolate chips in them. Get some ice cream when you get home and serve them together. Now, let's talk cookies... your life will never be the same again after these perfectly made soft centered cookies. One type I have to note: the Root Beer Float cookies. I have been going to Red Moose cookie since they opened down in tin city. I love their cookies and now so do my kids. I lived in Cambria for years and now live in SLO, so we aren't tourists, I'm a local. My grandma lived in Cambria since the 40s. We paid a visit on Mother's Day and the guy behind the counter was a MAJOR grump!! Never smiled, never engaged in conversation, even when we tried, and was short, curt and just an all around bad attitude. I think maybe the original owners sold it? But whomever this is, he needs a lesson in customer service. I'm a life long fan, but after dealing with Mr Grump I don't know if we will be back anytime soon. The caramel fudge walnut brownies are absolutely mind blowing! I don't say that often about food or desserts, but if you're making something better than I can make it myself we have ourselves a very clear winner. We dined at Madeline's the evening prior to our visit and spotted the hanging chocolate chip cookie outside. We came back the next afternoon and wow! My bff doesn't like walnuts, and I don't mind them so I treated myself to the brownies (after reading about how scrumptious they are, I had to try them!) and I got him the nutless cookies 3 for $9. I had one of his cookies and they are so damn good too! I do wish they made a regular chocolate chip cookie without walnuts, and I'm kicking myself for not getting the chocolate chip cookie that's made with them since I like walnuts but I surely don't need all these treats. When we opened our cookies and started eating them I immediately mentioned this cookie place in a nearby city along the coast that swears up and down to have the best cookies (and they were in fact, the worse cookies we had ever had in life.) Red Moose blows them out of the water! I typically think of Cambria and Ollalieberry pie and jam at Lynns. What I'll say now, is there will be no way I can ever think of Cambria and not think of Red Moose. Ollalieberry pie and jam are of course a MUST but Red Moose is a serious M U S T. I'm not quite certain I've had a better cookie. I may.... have, and it was different but for a bake shop to not only nail cookies, but to nail brownies is noteworthy. I can't say I've ever had a better brownie, and I use to think I made pretty damn good brownies. Red Moose puts my sad little brownies to shame, they are otherworldly. If you love brownies, you HAVE to get a bag from Red Moose $9 for 3 and they are great size. I devoured my entire bag in one day. Can't wait to visit again, next time I'll know I need to buy several of everything for sweet treat gifts for a bunch of people. Automatically greeted by Chloe the Corgi, which is a win in my book. Not only is she friendly but the new owners and operators of this sweet sweet establishment are awesome as well! Same great cookies!! And now the Naughty Rods are right there in plain sight. Buy one for now and one (or many) to freeze for later... or gifts! They are unique sweet and salty decadences that everyone loves! My favorite cookies are still the Lemon Moose, however I have found a new, chewy, ooey, gooey favorite as well... the Nutty Buddy! Ok, you guys, I am not a nuts-in-my-cookies lover, but these are soooooo yummy!!! The caramel is so thick it strings as you come away with your bite. OMG, heaven! As I mentioned in my previous review, my mom likes to purchase the root beer float cookies and then take them home and sandwich them around vanilla ice cream making her own ice cream sammies. They freeze well, and are really unique treats! I bet any of them would be good as ice cream sandwiches, but the root beer float ones are sure fun and a great conversation starter, Red Moose encourages this behavior by the way. It seems as though there are more cookies in stock in the new location, but they still sell out so make sure you stop in early and get some! I didn't know that cookies could be this wonderful. No regrets coming here; the wallet might disagree, however. Small cookies shop that opens at 10am and closes whenever they sell out. I knew I had to go at 10am on one of the days I'm down in Cambria. Just as I had suspected-- this would be what I'm bringing back home as gifts to my family. Upon entering the shop, we were greeted by a young lady at the counter. She had told us we were welcome to try the samples on the shelves in front of the cookies and brownies. The samples were in a container with a lid and small metal tong. We tried each different flavor without delay. At the end, I decided my favorite was the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cookie and the walnut brownie- so fudgy and creamy. The cookies are packaged in twos $7. And the brownies were packaged in threes $12. We got a couple of them to go. You really can't go wrong with any of their cookies or flavors there. First greeted by a wonderful lady. Very minimal and clean store. Their selection is small, but all gourmet: cookies, brownies, brittle, etc. We bought the Pumpkin Moose Pie. It was the best pumpkin thing I've had, outside of my Mother's homemade Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Bread. Pumpkin, moist, sweet, yet savory, cookie/bread on the outside of a beautifully creamy sweet cream cheese frosting filling (maybe a hint of maple). Just wonderful. read more

Really delicious cookies! I planned to get here 5-10 minutes before opening but we totally got lost. GPS kept telling us we arrived but it wasn't the correct aisle/building. After driving around in circles and almost giving up because it was already 10:10am we finally found it! And luckily there were still plenty of cookies in stock. I would've stood there longer to look through all of the options but as soon as I got there about 5 more people came in behind me. I ended up getting the snickerdoodle (one of my favorite types of cookies) and the root beer float. The snickerdoodle cookies were very soft and crumbly. The root beer float cookie was surprisingly really good. The flavor was spot on and I wish I bought more. I told my husband I could almost taste the fizz in the cookie. The owner was so nice as well. I just became victim to the mysterious Yelp review remover. This is actually my SECOND review that I've written because my first review was completely wiped out, eradicated, and gone forever without ever letting it be seen by the masses.... for reasons I'll never know, but I can assure you I'm furious that it was done.... all that for writing a glowing, 5-star review. Explain THAT to me. But I digress... Everything you've read about Red Moose is true.... starting with and ESPECIALLY regarding getting to this obscure store in the middle of an industrial park no later than 10:00 a.m. when it opens because he bakes in small batches, so those cookies will get bought and cleaned out in 15 minutes. No joke. I watched it happen in front of me, and I was even part of the mad dash to grab what I could. In fact, I grabbed the last bag available on 2 of the 8-10 cookie flavors, and we got there 5 minutes early. The thing is, 6 people came in 2-3 minutes later, and these were veterans... people who knew the "grab and go" drill. At this place, the early bird definitely catches the worm (or cookies). We bought the following: Cinnful Oh Joy! Nutless Wonder? Molasses Snickerdoodles Pumpkin Moose Pie Roger, the owner and baker, he knows his stuff !!! He can bake... and bake WELL. REALLY well. The cookies were soft, chewy, fresh, very tasty, and loaded with the best ingredients. My favorite was the Nutless Wonder (a chocolate chip cookie without nuts), followed by Cinnful (oatmeal, cinnamon chips, toffee pieces and walnuts), and the Snickerdoodles. I wasn't as much a fan of the molasses or pumpkin moose pie cookies, only because those were heavy on cloves, but that's just my preference for less cloves. It's a pretty strong spice to begin with. It's worth the challenge of getting there early (I'm not a morning person) because these are great cookies. So many flavors...it's like Baskin Robbin's but better (I mean...I can eat cookies even when it's cold and raining but don't love ice cream then). Do note, your favorites can sell out but I consider this just a sign of FRESH and delicious! Plus, if you call ahead, they can tell you what's there and set them aside for you. You can even call and let them know what you would like the next day and get them fresh and sure to be in stock.
