We stopped by Scout Coffee Company as a result of the Tesla supercharger that is in the back parking lot. We have been to the Scout Coffee location in SLO and this was the first time that we've been here at the Morro Bay location. We had an iced vanilla latte and hot mocha along with their morning bun. The mocha tastes a little bit more like a hot chocolate mix with espresso versus an old-fashioned mocha, but I was pleasantly surprised by how lightly sweet it was. The morning bun was one of the best morning buns I've ever had. The bakery for Scout Coffee is at this location and so all the pastries were very fresh. The location aesthetic was beautiful and they had a lovely large wooden community table that you can sit at as well as a cute area for kids to sit and play equip with a kid coffee shop wooden toy. Super cute coffee shop, loved that there was plenty of seating options. Stopped here with my sister for some chai and a snack. I ordered my chai hot with oat milk and vanilla on the sweeter side. I also ordered a chocolate banana bread. The banana was definitely rich, yummy. As for my chai, it genuinely just tasted like some very plain almost like water. You could taste a hint of chai but it just wasn't enough. I did ask for more vanilla but it didn't really help. This is one of my favorite coffee shops ever! Their syrups are homemade and their pastries are to die for! Their raspberry chocolate scone is incredible. I've had my mom stop here on her way home to San Diego from the Bay Area just so I could have the scone again. I have also gotten the almond blackberry croissant which was delicious. I kept seeing this coffee shop all over social media as one of the best coffee spots in SLO County, so I knew I had to check it out for myself. When I walked in, I was impressed by how open and spacious the café felt. There was plenty of seating, making it a great place to relax or get some work done. What immediately caught my attention, though, was the pastry case since I'm a huge fan of pastries. I ended up ordering a cappuccino and a chocolate croissant. The cappuccino was okay, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. The espresso tasted fairly light, and I personally prefer a stronger, more complex espresso flavor. Overall, the drink leaned a bit too milky for my taste. The chocolate croissant was also just average. I was a little disappointed when I overheard that pastries could be warmed up upon request. I imagine it would have tasted much better warm. It would be helpful if staff mentioned this option when customers order in-store, especially for first-time visitors. Otherwise, how would new customers know? Overall, the service was friendly, and the coffee shop has a beautiful modern atmosphere. While the ambiance stands out, I found the coffee and pastries to be just okay. First time visiting and this is easily one of the nicest places to grab coffee in San Luis Obispo County. A great addition to Morro Bay with a very large parking lot in the back, and I noticed EV charging available as well. The ambience is excellent and my coffee was perfect. I especially loved the lemon pistachio shortbread cookie so much that I went back and ordered a second one to go. Unfortunately, when I got back to my hotel I realized I had been given a chocolate chip cookie instead. I returned to exchange it, but they had already run out of the shortbread cookies, which was disappointing. Overall, a great experience, but I'm giving it four stars because of the order mix-up and the lack of remaining cookies when I returned. I feel bad for writing this review but I was underwhelmed with the matcha that we ordered. I don't think this is fair because we are from LA and the quality of the matcha that we have out there is very difficult to beat. However, I didn't like how a lot of the matcha that they have seemed premade already. You can see it mixing in the machine to keep it "fresh" or "prepared". The service that we experienced was absolutely amazing, everyone was so nice and they said that the matcha was a fan favorite. I'm sure other things on the menu were much better than what we ordered, so if I'm in the area I'd love to give this place another try.
