I visited SLO for work and I came in for the lotus. I heard this place was good, and gave it a try. First coming in the staff was very friendly and welcoming. It didn't take long to get my drinks. I love the little "self serve" station of lids, straw, etc. I couldn't decide between the 2 so I ordered both. They are both really good. I had to stir the mango for a bit but it ended up being my favorite. Definitely recommended, both the white lotus and the mango with the coconut milk foam This seems to be a chill place for locals as some were playing card games and some were doing work on the computer. We're visiting SLO and had some time to kill so came here to do some work. I had the mango sticky rice matcha and it was delicious; however, the Wi-Fi just wasn't working for either me or my boyfriend. When my boyfriend informed the lady who was at the counter that the Wi-Fi was not working, she just deadpan stared at him and said "Well it's working for other people" and did not offer any help at all. (FWIW, I also don't think the Wi-Fi was working for others, as I saw many hotspots listed in the wi-fi menu) We felt like this was pretty rude/ruined our experience here and we left shortly thereafter. Really sad because the atmosphere was really nice and the drink was delicious! read more

GET THE DOUBLE MATCHA CLOUD LATTE IT IS SO GOOD!!! One of my fav matcha drinks that I've ever had, perfectly lightly sweetened with a great matcha flavor. The cloud foam on top adds the perfect creaminess to the drink and was so refreshing on a sunny morning. All our drinks came out quick and the girls up front were so nice and helpful with suggestions. I cannot wait to be back the next time I'm in SLO :) read more

The last time I was in town, Kaffein was a different coffee shop, but I'm nothing if not a creature of habit. Once I realized the space was still a coffee shop, I was more than happy to check it out! And it is just as nice! The service is warm and personable, it's bright and airy inside and the menu isn't overwhelming. I got the White Forest Mocha Latte and it was so delicious! I absolutely loved the vibe of this coffee shop. Adorable decor inside, and I love their logo! Very clean store with plenty of seating indoor and outside. Service was very friendly and coffee was made with care. I asked the cashier what latte I should get and she suggested the white forest mocha latte, which was white chocolate and cherry flavored. It was so good! I got it iced and the flavor combo was something I've never tried before and it was so yummy. My friend got the blended caramel latte and she said it was outrageously good. I tied it, it was too sweet for me but I'm Guessing that's the point. We shared the blueberry muffin and it was so soft and sweet, tasted homemade. I stopped by during my visit to slo, and it was overall a good experience. The coffee itself didn't have any wow factors. However, I appreciate the energy of the shop (indoor/outdoor type of seating) which made the entire place super open and inviting. I liked the general theme of it being a "healthy" option. Overall, super cute and I recommend visiting for the aesthetic and environment!! read more

Two days in SLO meant 2 days at Kaffein. This little quaint restaurant was perfect for our coffee mornings. I had the scones on both days and I absolutely enjoyed it: Both medium and dark roast coffee were also very good. Outside seating is a plus especially if the inside is crowded. read more

Kaffein offers one of the better matchas in Slo. I really liked that the cups were small, it's the right amount to get a little caffeine in. Visited San Luis Obispo, walked to Kaffein Coffee from my hotel to get some morning Joe. Three of us really enjoyed the environment, coffee and chia puddings. The regular matcha latte was grainy and honestly tasted like straight milk. I was a little skeptical to try the blueberry lavender pomegranate one but the pomegranate wasn't really prominent. The matcha in that one and the strawberry was much better quality than the regular matcha latte. However, the strawberry milk overpowered the flavor of the matcha and was very sweet. Would definitely order the coffee next time instead. read more

The best high quality matcha and fun flavors! Highly recommend the strawberry, blueberry, and mango sticky rice matcha. If you're looking for fun flavors of matcha this is the best place! The strawberry and blueberry matcha taste like real fruit syrups and they're amazing. Such a good environment and all the workers are the sweetest, the owner is always in there as well and he's great! You can tell he cares a lot about his customers and employees. 1.5/5: Ordered two matcha clouds and both drinks were terrible. The drinks tasted nothing like matcha or vanilla. Just milk. It was overpriced. Ruined my day quite frankly. I've tasted ceremonial matcha before, and this tastes nothing like it. The problem isn't the quality of the matcha, it's the way they make it. I'm sure their coffee is good, but maybe skip out on the matcha. I liked the ambiance of the coffee shop though. Seems like a good study spot. read more

The coffee shop has street parking as well as a parking lot which makes it an easy stop. I ordered a blueberry muffin and an americano. The blueberry had a sugary crust and it was good. The americano was also enjoyable. I got my coffee to go and put a stopper in to prevent spilling on my 3-minute drive back to SLO High. By the time I got there I realized that the coffee lid was ill-fitting and coffee had spilled in my cup holder. Thankfully I had baby wipes to clean the mess. I cleaned the lid and put it back on the cup to walk into SLO High. Thankfully I had wrapped a napkin around the cup because my hand would've been been covered in espresso! I'd only recommend getting coffee here if you're enjoying it in the shop. If you're driving or walking, prepare for a mess. Please get lids that fit the cups! read more

Matcha was so disappointing. Got it sweetened with vanilla but had to go back and ask for extra as the first time around there was little to nothing (pretty sure they just forgot it). For all the additions to be extra I would expect the matcha to taste quality and good but unfortunately it was the exact opposite. This is the first time matcha has tasted like grass to me so it wasn't very pleasant as I usually live the taste of matcha. I would come back for a coffee maybe because I liked the vibes inside the store and they had a nice patio area, but matcha was very disappointing read more

I came in today and got an iced latte, but it was one of their speciality ones with cherry and white chocolate (white forest mocha latte) . I got this small, and had oat milk in it, and it totaled to 6.75. The price vs the taste wasn't perfect, I think I would want to give them another try. Their espresso was pretty smooth, but I think the specialty drink I got wasn't for me. The workers there were nice, but I will try again with a different drink and see if I like them more next time. The first version had no foam...so she emptied some liquid and added foam. I got to my car, started drinking and realized it was lukewarm - not extra hot - but I was tired, probably lazy and just finished it. It wasn't even busy in the shop. - Service: Always friendly. - Price and Value: Lots of good food and drinks for a fair price. - Parking: No problem. There's a lot in the front and a big one in back. - Bathrooms: Not bad. There are 2 behind the shop - both are usually quite clean and come with a code you get from the employees. Cons: - Consistency of the drinks: This is a problem at almost every place I've tried.....except The Tribe in Arroyo Grande. Most of the drinks here are very good, but people should not be on the front line unless they know what to do. Overall, the Nautical Bean on Los Osos Valley Road makes great sandwiches, has a fine selection of pastries and does a good job with their drinks.
