I have been wanting to visit Breda because of the hype. I was impressed by the chocolate offerings. I purchased the peanut butter, Nutella, black sesame/passion fruit and orange dark chocolates. Each one was flavorful and unique. I was very happy. - I was greeted while walking in the door and served quickly. I received a branded paper bag upon purchase. I love the branding overall and the downtown location is a quick walk from the Mission. - The furniture and place settings are perfect for the theme. However, I felt a bit lost when looking around the restaurant. The back wall is filled with fake florals and a neon sign in pink. Then, the wall by the bar features porcelain jester masks to represent Italy in red. The far wall has local art for sale. I suggest picking only one of these themes like the local artist portraits for a more focused ambiance. read more

Came here to celebrate my now, sister-in-law's Bridal Shower. We had Reservations for a party of 8 + a child on a Sunday at noon. Bella was our lovely belle. We all went with the Signature Tea. It included a choice of Tea, an assortment of 5 petite sandwiches, 2 scones with jams, & 5 gourmet pastries. I cam here while visiting. My friend and I both got their tea set that came with sandwiches, scones, and some desserts. The tea was pretty good, but it took some time for them to bring it. The food itself was pretty good, but as my friend and I do not eat pork, it was a bit disappointing as they did not offer anything with a protein. Came here for Galentine's Day and had a wonderful time! There was a little confusion on who was our server so we waited several minutes for someone come by to offer us water and take our drink order. The waitress was very apologetic about the misunderstanding. We ordered the Signature Tea, which comes with a pot of tea, a glass of Prosecco, 5 sandwiches, 5 desserts and a scone. Before our tea tower arrived, we were given 2 chocolates each to enjoy. They were very good. Our sandwiches included a cucumber with cream cheese, Prosciutto, hummus with green, ham with Brie, and Caprese. They were all very tasty. The scone was nice; just plain. Giving Breda a 2.5/5. Not sure what was up with the atmosphere here, but the vibes were so off. The energy in the room felt so heavy and tbh we couldn't wait to leave. When we first got there the energy the server gave us was pretty lackluster in comparison to the white family that was sat before us. At no point did we ever really feel welcome despite trying our best to just enjoy the experience. I appreciate the fact that they let you share a tier of sandwiches and desserts. Some tea rooms are weird about that. The sandwiches were okay. Not the best, not the worst. I thought it was odd that the tea pot came halfway filled and unfiltered. I personally don't like the little twigs and leaves floating around in my tea and I didn't realize anyone else did? The desserts were cute. Presentation for everything is very pretty, but some of the desserts tasted like they just came out of the freezer, so they kinda hurt your teeth/feel a little cold upon first bite. The worst part for me was finding a little hair in the carrot cake. Definitely wasn't expecting that, since the place gives off such a clean and prim vibe. The food was decent. I think the presentation is pretty, but to be honest would not come back again because the vibes were just so bad. I can't be the only Latina that's dined there. I recently re-visited Breda for a themed afternoon tea and it was a fun experience! The theme of the day was ABBA, and we were serenaded with their music the entire time we were there. This was a festive event, and the restaurant was decorated with some disco attire. We were also encouraged to wear costumes, and the serving staff were all dressed up. That was a ton of fun! As is usually the case with afternoon tea, there was a prefix menu for the day following the ABBA theme and we were started off with sparkling wine and cotton candy. We were encouraged to drop pieces of the cotton candy into our champagne glasses and it caused a beautiful glittery effect. And that's what got the ball rolling. The food was plentiful and delicious as well as very creative. The price was $90 per person for this special themed tea. I have been to this location for their regular tea at $75 per person which includes all the food and tea but no alcohol, which is available for an extra charge. It was nice to have the sparkling wine as part of the themed package and refills were only $10 each. I highly recommend you try Breda, if not for afternoon tea then for any of the other items they have on their menu, which is creative and delicious. read more

My daughter took me for Mother's Day. We chose the signature tea and it was phenomenal! No exaggeration! I've had high tea in many places around the world, but nothing compared to the flavors, presentation and atmosphere. The focaccia is light as a cloud and the mousse, well, you just have to try it. The chocolates are pieces of art and that medium sings in owner, Florencia's hands. The decor is clean and elegant, and you can't help but feel special. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. Everyone from chef to server seems happy to be there, and it shows. When you go, don't forget the display case and a look at the patio in the back. What a fun afternoon tea! Just so happens that my reservations I made a couple weeks prior turned out to be on a disco themed day. So that was a lot of fun. The table decor and flower wall was the only part of the interior that seemed like an afternoon tea aesthetic, otherwise it seemed more industrial with the exposed ceiling. We couldn't get reservations for the entire day on the website but since we just wanted to buy takeout pastries for Sunday brunch though we would take the drive to the restaurant anyway. When we got there a note was on the door that it was closed for a private party, like a bridal shower. They should have said that on their website not just no reservations being available. The cake layer was incredibly moist with just a good hint of coffee to not overpower everything else going on in the cake. I'd say this is a fancy middle eastern adaptation of a tiramisu. And they nailed it. Coconut passion fruit: chocolate shells with coconut and passion fruit fillings. Fun little contrast with some tart and creamy flavor. What a treat! We came here to celebrate Father's Day and were so excited about afternoon tea. We were seated by the lovely flower wall, the ambiance is exceptional. Wide open space, very clean and with the comfiest chairs perfect for tea and chatting. These chairs even kept our kid from fidgeting. The menu was fantastic, very reasonably priced for the quality of food. Service was also excellent, had multiple check ins to include a refresh on tea and milk. We lived in England and are familiar with afternoon tea. The quality of food reminded me of the fanciest of teas in London and Oxford, but with the casual California vibe we love (no snootiness). We loved Florencia's desserts when she was located in Mistura so we knew it was going to be yummy! Our toddler couldn't get enough of them. The kids' plate was great, but he also happily ate off our plates (especially the sweets!). The scones were perfect, and the clotted cream and strawberry basil jam were so good. My husband and I tried out this new afternoon tea place in SLO. Our only other western style afternoon tea style experience was at the Empress in Victoria Canada (we've had plenty of dim sum though). The highlights for me were the tea and novelty of the experience in SLO. They take care to let their tea shine: specific temperatures for different teas and variety of tea selection, but the tea sommelier wasn't there to let us know what year the green teas were harvested. For one order of an afternoon tea set they give each person a pot of tea. I chose the dian hong (a Yunnan red tea), and my husband got the oolong shui xian, which were pretty good. The actual food was ok: pretty small bites, but packed with flavor. We got a selection of mouses that were a little too sweet and rich for us, though they pair well with unsweetened tea. I think I would prefer more variety of textures. I would go back for more of their tea and would try more of their savory offerings. It's a good place to go with friends for a fancy social gathering. I will caveat this review by saying I came to know Florencia Breda through her previous and continued dessert and chocolate making for local restaurants before she started this venture with her co-owner. Both her chocolates and desserts are delicious and are a must try for any foodie. My family and I visited about two weeks ago. We were outside of their high tea service time which I believe is between 1-6pm. Be sure to call and double check. That being said, our visit was wonderful! I got the Italian fragato(?)? I think it was called, basically prosecco with a scoop of lemon sorbet. That was so refreshing! Yum! I would get it again. The shop has a very beautiful and appealing location. The table setting was so stylish! My inner little girl was tickled pink. We sat in the main sitting area and I understand that they have a patio seating area in the back. I have not seen it personally, but my mother who was with me did and said it was enchanting. I'd like to take a moment to address a previous review who mentioned about calling for reservations and how at first they weren't required for High Tea and then later showed up and found out they were. I can sympathize with the frustration and would like everyone to know that it was a case of poor timing. Originally when the owners opened they did not require reservations not realizing how popular their high tea service would be. They originally did not hire any extra staff as they plunked a sizable amount of money into remodeling and opening the space, not to mention the price of the liquor license they are required to have or what it costs to even stock their kitchen and bar. So imagine their surprise when on their first weekend opened a lot of people showed up! They served 200 people their High Tea service in one day with just the two of them.... It was a breaking point for them as they realized that they must have a reservation system for High Tea on the weekends to better plan service work flow and more staff, not to mention for their own sanity. The good news is if you come during the week when they are open, there are no reservations required for it, last I checked. If you are planning a weekend High Tea, please make sure to make a reservation in advance and know, the owners mentioned they were booked for two months already. Now that I've addressed that, one other thing. Beyond high tea, they also serve some food, though not a large menu and you may order chocolates and desserts a la carte. They are all made fresh and by hand! I hope this review has been helpful and informative! I will be visiting again and this time I will snag a High Tea spot! Ciao! read more

Fun way to enjoy the usual, tea time in SLO. We're big and on "high tea" when we're traveling and discover such venues. Although this lovely establishment isn't, by design, what one would call high tea, it's a fun and delicious experience. There are several levels of food options as well as tea flavor choices. 4 of us ordered a moderately priced option which included sandwiches, scones, creatively delicious pastries, and handmade chocolates. Yesterday was our first time visiting Breda. We were there a few minutes before opening and waiting patiently outside. A few minutes past opening we are still seeing no one coming to the door. It was unlocked we found out, but it would have been nice to have someone come to welcome us as they couldn't have missed us waiting. When we came in it was just us and we said hello. No response from the hostess except a slight look up at us and a "Can I help you" or something to that effect. The hostess never smiled, never made us feel welcome. Throughout our time in Breda, I couldn't stop thinking of how unfriendly and unwelcoming the hostess was and it spoiled our teatime. I want to say that the food was excellent, and our server was awesome. We noticed as two or three other groups came in the hostess gave them a nice greeting. I don't know why she never once smiled at us or made us feel welcome like everyone who came after us, but it was so upsetting the stark difference that I'm still upset about it today. I will never go back. I did talk to the owner, and she listened and was very kind, but even with her response I will never go back. I am super disappointed as I really love high tea, but being treated poorly doesn't make for a good experience. read more
