    Tea shop

I recently attended the Tea Trolley Atascadero's grand opening at the Sip and Shop last Friday and it was crazy packed with so many people checking out the new space. Everyone was "oohing and aahing" on what a stunning little jewel of a tea shop Atascadero has now again in its downtown area. The current owner has definitely taken the tea shop to the next level. It's just so pretty inside - including the bathroom! I was also fortunate to attend the Tea Trolley's inaugural high tea the following day. The pre-fixed menu consisted of delicious mini sandwiches of cucumber dill and cream, ham and cheese, egg salad with capers, and smoked salmon and brie, lemon scones and crumpets with Devonshire cream and lemon curd, and sweet treats of macarons, chocolate eclair, lemon bar shortbread, and a raspberry filled petit four. Each person gets their own pot of tea. And the shop has its own resident tea expert. Gina can tell you everything about the teas and you leave knowing more about teas than when you first came in. I'm obsessed with the tea I chose. It's called the Purple Teaser on the high tea menu but in the shop they sell it as Alice's Curiosity Cup . It's a tisane full of flowers, fruits, herbs, and marshmallow. I ended up buying a tin of the loose tea and been drinking it every day since. It tastes amazing hot AND cold. I also bought the sweet treats they sell during the rest of the week when they don't have high tea seatings. There were these delicious melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies sourced from the Bay Area - Lynne's Labor of Love. It came in 3 flavors: lavender citrus, earl grey, and rose petal. I couldn't decide which was my favorite because all were so good! And don't get me started on the mini lemon pie and the Millionaire bar (a Twix flavored brownie) both from Bramble Pie Company. I bought a few of each home to my mom and sister and they devoured them. The owner, Deneen, mentioned that high tea is only on Saturdays and Sundays by online reservation. But she welcomes guests to enjoy a la carte the tea, scones, sweet treats, and sandwiches in her shop Wednesday-Friday and on Sat/Sun from 2-5pm. People can sit in the tea room, outside in the back patio, and the chairs scattered throughout the store. She also said that the tearoom and patio will be available for private events. I'm already thinking of baby showers and birthday high teas for the near future! I think Tea Trolley is the only tea room in the area. It's such a wonderful addition to the Central Coast. I have a feeling it's going to be a success and can't wait to go back soon.

What an amazing experience and lovely host! Our first visit to Atascadero and stumbled upon this place! Will definitely be back to enjoy the beautifully decorated rooms and fun garden!

I was SO happy to find out that this place reopened. It has been closed since Covid and is now open under new management. They were so booked up that ai had to ask to be on a waitlist, which fortunately concluded with a reservation. So, if you want to book here (and high tea is only on weekends), you need to do it pretty far in advance. It is worth it though. Seating is pretty limited, given the small indoor dining space....likely the reason they book up easily. The tea is hosted by the new owner, who is very gracious and informative about the tea service. Our tier included 4 sandwich choices, scones/jam/curd/Devon cream, fresh fruit, slaw and miniature desserts (lemon bar, eclair, macarons and petit fours. Everything was beyond delicious...we ended up taking most of our dessert options in a take out box because we were so full. There are many tea options, and I elected for a delicious cinnamon black tea. When the owner found out we were celebrating my actual birthday on the date of our reservation, I was treated to an addition, yummy mini lemon pie. I am fairly certain this may now be the ONLY place in SLO county that offers a proper high tea. I most definitely will be back!!

So of course, I ordered my favorite too, a salt bagel, extra toasted. My main goal was the soup, and when they said it was only available frozen, I was totally fine with that. It could thaw throughout the day and she could enjoy it whenever she felt up to it. Turns out, it was a great call. The soup had tiny bits of veggies and multiple matzo balls that were nice and sizable. She loved it, and honestly, it looked so good I'll be getting it for myself next time I'm feeling run down. Now the surprise star... that bagel. The chew was spot on. That perfect bakery-style texture with just the right crust. Not even close to a grocery store bagel. If you know, you know. The shop itself is small and super casual, with a very relaxed, neighborhood feel. Service was quick, about three minutes from ordering to walking out the door. They also have outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus. And one more thing worth mentioning... if you take a minute to look up at the menu board, they have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches. Definitely coming back to work my way through those. Great food, fast service, chill vibe... and that bagel chew alone is worth the stop.

I could barely see the pastries in the case. No worries though, I saw what I came in for. Purchased a French baguette for $3.70. Beyond amazed at the price. Excited to have some with my coffee, I ripped off a piece almost immediately and noticed the nice crust on the outside. 5 stars for the crust!! As for the flavor, it seemed a little flat. It was lacking some of the wheaty-tangy flavor you would get from a longer prove/fermentation. The inside of it was also missing all those nice deep pockets you see in a French baguette. Overall, not a bad baguette, but not one that you yearn for. I'd like to mention the young lady Annabel I had the privilege of meeting outside of the bakery. She was on a delivery run, but told me about their IG page, and we had a wonderful chat about cookies. Thank you for your time, Annabel, you are awesome!

They have a very large menu on one wall, which makes it easy to take a moment to browse through their many options. There is a short wait, it's not fast food by any means, which assures that the food is also fresh. We have gotten the Chicken shawarma, the Beef shawarma, and the Gyro sandwiches, with failed of fries. All have had healthily serving of meat and vegetables, and the fries have been hot and crispy. We will definitely be stopping here regularly.

She was taking multiple orders at once and asked three customers what they wanted--I was the third. I clearly ordered an Italian with double meat. She repeated it back correctly, so there was no confusion on my end. When the sandwich was made, it was obvious it did not have double meat. I calmly pointed it out, and instead of correcting it, she argued with me--saying "that's extra meat." I clarified again: I ordered double meat and understand the difference. Her response? A dismissive tone and "well then it will be a double charge," as if I wasn't already aware of that. That's literally what I ordered. From there, her attitude completely deteriorated--eye rolling, snapping back, and accusing me of being rude for simply asking to receive what I paid for. When I asked for a manager, she said she was the manager. That's the real issue here. If this is how management handles basic customer interactions--arguing, dismissing, and deflecting instead of correcting a simple mistake--there's a serious leadership problem at this location. I don't mind paying for quality. I do mind being talked down to and treated like I'm the problem for expecting my order to be right. I've been coming in pretty regularly, but that ends today, I'll never come back to this location Do better.
