I've been going to the San Luis location of SloDoCo for a while and I noticed that they had a location here in Atascadero. I travel up here for work on occasion and it was a great place for me to purchase fresh donuts instead of the ones down in SLO specially if I wasn't down there already. Overall, The vibe here is more cozy but it is also in a busier location because of the location of the movie theater. I've driven by here hundreds of times but never realize that it was hiding in plain sight. All of my usual favorites are here. There's always a lot of the fancy looking donuts and my personal favorites are the creampuffs. These are probably one of the best creampuffs I've ever had. They're almost like larger donut holes with cream in there. They're just wonderful. I've always wanted to try some of the drinks that they have here but I've always only purchased the donuts and creampuffs here. The last time I was here, the team was very friendly and helpful and they were able to get me in and out of there in a matter of minutes. There is tons of parking here and it's plaza. if you get lucky, there are spots right outside on the street for easy access. read more

Upon walking in we were met with a large amount of customers in front of us but the wait was not a problem with all of the options to choose from. I needed roughly 5-10 mins to look over all of the options before making my selections. There is a front case with all of the specialty donuts and a whole back wall with the classics donuts. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. As a group of 4 we decided to order several donuts to share. We ordered the blueberry cake, pecan pie raised, mashed potato raised, lavender with sprinkles raised, pumpkin cheesecake, espresso filled, pumpkin brûlée bites, and a jalapeño ham and cheese croissant. The donuts are very beautifully decorated and the time that was spent decorating them shows. The customer service was patient, kind and very helpful. Some of the funky donuts such as the mashed potato raised donut is actually vanilla flavored and thankfully the person helping us was patient enough to tell us all of the flavors. All of the donuts were delicious. No complaints what so ever. As for the prices, they were listed above and everything is a fair price for speciality donuts. Usually our families go to every Sunday. Out front have games and tables, great for families. Inside, modern, clean, cold elevated donut decor. Donuts are fluffy, airy, and never oily. I love the modern simplicity of the Galaxy donut, you have to give that marshmallow frosting a shot. Only knock on them is that they make these wonderfully eccentric donuts, at a high price point, but shove them in these little boxes. You have to give them larger boxes no matter what. Your the ones making these extravagant designs, have pride so they don't end up like my galaxy pictured. It is overwhelming walking into this shop. First I focused on the donuts in the front counter display case. Rainbow galaxy, filled, snickerdoodle, animal cookies, cereal...and then I realized that the huge shelves behind the counter were not cooling racks, but instead they were even more different flavors. Lavender, strawberry, something green, the classic flavors like old fashioned and crumb. The shop is huge, with a welcoming wall of books and games. I could see coming here and hanging out with a coffee and my family. Even though I tend to prefer cake donuts, the donuts we selected and tried were all raised. They were light and delicious. They offer 100 different donuts on a daily basis and there's gotta be a glaze paint brush in the back there somewhere in order to produce the "Marshmallow Galaxy." As the saying goes, the early bird gets the good donuts, or something like that. We got there around 7:00am and the shelves were stocked with so many choices. We purchased a box for an event we were headed to, so many great items to choose from, it was a hit. I never had the Buttermilk, (not donut?) it looks more like a miniature loaf of bread. Whatever it's classified as, so good. It's more dense than a doughnut, but amazingly good. The kids devoured every single one, not a crumb left. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Made a stop nearby on a road trip to the Bay and I'm so glad I did. I had the San Luis Obispo location bookmarked for a while and didn't realize until I came here on a whim for a road stop treat. I was greeted by an employee and was able to quickly order as it wasn't too busy. They have a huge variety and id love to try more - but stuck with their matcha glaze, and creme brûlée donut (with espresso filling!!). The matcha was good but not anything amazing. The creme brûlée tho... that blew my mind and is prob up there as one of the best donuts I've had... the crisp burnt sugar and the filling OMG!! Must try. We got one of the last 2 in the store so you know it's good. Also got a large vanilla oat milk latte and the worker was accommodating in doing less pumps of syrup. This is the go to spot for donuts on the central coast. They're kind of voodoo donuts adjacent product wise. Service is always prompt and friendly. There's some benches and couches and chairs that create chill environment if you want to do your donuts there. read more

While I still have SloDoCo as my top donut joint in the state, the Atascadero location had some quality issues.. Not sure if the donuts are baked at this location or not. The main benefit of driving to this location is that it's not as crowded as their flagship store and there was plenty of selection still available, even in the afternoon.. If I'm paying 3-4 dollars for a donut it should be darn near perfect. They used to be great now they are not even close. The filled donuts have uneven filling, it's either all on one side of the donut or there's a quarter sized bit of filling in the center. The cream puffs usually are very good, the last two times they have been soggy, yuck! Cmon slodoco get your act together! I, for one, will not continue to buy suboptimal donuts for premium prices. read more

Visited SloDoCo in 2018 and glad to come again. As last time, we had a large order. The staff recommended we call in ahead to save time. I don't know if they can do that online. It will be a great help for this group. All flares were fresh, well-balanced as donuts go -- meaning not sickening sweet or oily. Some were clearly creatively decorative. Creme Brûlée and Espresso Filled remained the favorite by adults, followed closely by old-fashioned glazed. The kids side was all over the place and leaned heavily on the sprinkled ones -- with some kinds of fruit hints. Donut holes are hugely popular, order more. Whatever you thought enough. read more

Wonderful atmosphere and environment inside the building, and my customer service agent, Logan took care of me and my order really well. Immense props for such a clever name (San Luis Obispo Donut Company all abbreviated up). This is their Atascadero location with the founding location on Foothill in San Luis Obispo. They have a huge inventory of freshly made donuts (come late in the afternoon at your own risk) with clever toppings and decorations. They make special holiday donuts and in May (the Force Be With You) they create neat Star Wars themed donuts. Wookiees and Storm Troopers anyone? There are indoor and outdoor seating areas if you want to enjoys your treats right away. The crew is very nice and patient. The donuts are delicious and the staff is super friendly. I loved the circus animal cracker donut--SO GOOD! The Galaxy donut was good (it's a marshmallow flavor) but not something I'd order again. The simple glazed donut was delicious. The maple bacon longjohn was a little disappointing...I didn't get the sweet/savory combo I was expecting. The bacon wasn't flavorful (crazy to type that) and the maple flavor was a little flat. The vegan lemon poppyseed was a little dense compared with the regular donuts, but still good. These are some damn good doughnuts. I was skeptical because they seemed to be more about the novelty than anything, but these are all flavor! They have a fantastic selection of both vegan and gluten free donuts which was impressive. And I'm fact, of the five we tried, the vegan flavor was my favorite. Favorite - vegan lemon poppyseed 2nd favorite - glazed twist The galaxy looks cool, but I'm not super into the marshmallow frosting. The circus animal one was really good, but a bit too sweet for more than a taste of it. And the maple bacon one was just not my jam. It didn't strike the right salty / savory balance for me. I had bookmarked this for our trip to the area and I am really glad I did because all the great reviews were correct in saying these are the best donuts. We stopped in twice actually (stop judging) once was at night for a snack. My wife got a coconut cream donut and I got the maple bacon bar, which was absolutely off the charts great. Even though we went there around 8 PM the donuts were still so soft. The maple bacon bar had great flavors between the salty and the sweet. We stopped back in the next day before going home and got two more maple bacon bars, a PB&J, and a crème brulee, they all looked so good though it was hard to choose. read more

SloDoCo... you're back! Update of 5/17: A man of his word, Brandon M., manager of SloDoCo Atascadero, has ensured that his customers' experience is everything it should be when stopping in. The hot chocolate machine was up and running, my almond milk was steamed and frothy, the fireplace was up and going, and I received service with a smile, so it looks like all is well again in donut land. Thank you too, Brandon M., for reaching out the way you did. That exemplifies customer service at its best, and I appreciated the overture. Review of 5/14: SloDoCo ... what happened? Went in this evening (5/14) about 9:20 and, to begin our large group's order, asked for a hot chocolate. Advised, "Sorry, can't, the machine is down." (The tragedy(!) because I've grown quite fond of their hot chocolate.) Oh well, that's okay, "How about a coffee with some chocolate in it, can you do that?" "Sure." (Yay.) "Could you please make that with almond milk?" "Do you mean cold?" (Ohhh, right, they can't steam the milk!) That's okay, I understand these things do happen (although it's usually at McDonald's and their notorious shake machines). Ordered two chocolate croissants for my little one and I, but advised by one of the young ladies that there was only one left. That's okay, he can have it. Then, as I was about to pay, my husband came up and asked the other young lady if he could have a chocolate croissant. I was about to give him the sad news, but she reached right down and brought up yet another "last croissant." I ended up ordering one of their chocolates puffs to ease my disappointment. Went to sit by the fireplace but it was off, and cold air from the outside was coming in through it, so my hubby asked one of the young ladies if it could be turned on. "Sorry, no, we tried turning it on earlier today, and it wasn't working either." What? Umm, then, how come my daughter-in-law just got it going by flicking the switch to the on position? Strike three. C'mon, folks.... Now you've cast into serious doubt what you said about the hot chocolate machine, too. If you don't enjoy working late and are just trying to wrap things up early (as further evidenced by trying to balance and close out your register well before closing time), don't take it out on your hapless customers, and by all means, ask your manager for a different shift so that someone else more customer oriented can do the work and offer the service you don't feel inclined to. In any case, despite her best efforts, the young lady trying to close out her register had to stop in order to help the next six or seven customers who came in after our large group did. Closing time is at 10 pm, and mindful that hard-working evening workers have lives and homes they need to return to, we always make it a point to be respectful of that fact. However, "hard-working" being the contingent and operative word here, we lingered until close to a quarter after - our otherwise silent protest (save this review) over the subpar service we received this evening. read more

You would think that with such a wide variety of donuts, they would be mediocre or average in taste. Nope, not with this place. I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. Their donut holes were some of the best I've ever had and I'm pretty picky with donuts just because I'm not a fan of overly sweet, but they were all balance very well in texture in taste. The customer service was great. The person behind the counter was very helpful and patient as were were trying to figure out what to get. It can get overwhelming. We didn't even notice the back wall of donuts. That made the selection process even more difficult (but in a good way). Full disclosure: I'm not that into donuts. Give me an almond croissant over a glazed hunk of dough any day. With that said, my husband is CRAZY about them. Obsessed. For a donut spot, SloDoCo has a whole lot going for it. The flavor selection is absolutely ridiculous-- seriously, they had probably 2 dozen flavors out when I popped by on a Sunday afternoon, including some very creative options. The apple fritter looked fantastic (one of the few donuts that I dig), although I didn't indulge. My husband had a chocolate bar donut, and I sampled a couple of blueberry cream cheese donut holes (love that they are bringing the creativity with even the donut holes!). His was actually really great, & not overly sweet. The dough was good quality & fresh, even at 2 in the afternoon. My donut holes were tasty, but perhaps a little bit sweet for my taste. Again, I lean away from super sweet pastries, so that might just be my preference. The coffee/drink menu looked solid (thai tea?! sign me up), and the seating is plentiful & comfortable-looking. Service was friendly enough during out visit. They did have a lot of options for folks with dietary restrictions (I saw a lot of gluten free options & protein donuts, the latter of which I remain skeptical of the idea of), which is nice.
