I'm really bummed. I feel the quality and service at Bru has gone severely downhill. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and two pastries. One of which I had never tried before. The berry breakfast cookie was tasteless, grainy and bland. After one bite, I knew it was not a good choice. - I requested an exchange for a pastry I had purchased many times before. I go to this cafe at least once a e a week. The staff was rude, dismissive and offered no options. I was not offered an exchange, a refund or a food credit. I left the uneaten item at the register. - There are so many other nearby spots to try instead of Bru. Binx just opened and offers free stickers, vegan options and a deeply friendly staff. Wendy Whites also just opened and offers a vegan chocolate cookie with a cayenne kick and adorable decor! Johnny Boy's has a big selection of breakfast sandwiches and next door at Bramble, the chocolate cookies are phenomenal! The brand new Nana's has gluten free pastries, coffee beverages featuring local brews and a truly kind staff. All of these spots are grateful to have my business so, I'll be going to these locations from now on. read more

We found ourselves in Atascadero, needed some good coffee and found this gem! The coffee house seems small from the outside, but there is plenty of room inside. They have sofa seating and many seating tables. Staff was friendly and helpful. They serve fresh pastries and also have other food items such as sandwiches and wraps. We tried their Mexican mocha and vanilla latte. Both were very good with a rich coffee flavor that we like. We also had their chocolate chip scone which was very good as well. They also have gluten free pastry options. Overall, a great coffee house. If we are in the area next time, we will definitely stop by for some more good coffee and pastries! Happy Nom Nom! read more

Most of my reviews are centered around traveling and finding great coffee shops. We were in Atascadero this particular weekend and the first thing I did was hit up Yelp to find where I was going to get my caffeine fix. Bru seem to have the best reviews in town, so I decided to check it out. I was blown away how much room both inside and outside this shop had when it comes to seating. You definitely can't tell that's the case from the outside, but it was a great surprise once I got in. The barista was friendly, they were able to create my drink no problem, and I really loved the different gluten and dairy free options they had for food. I went with a gluten and dairy free, chocolate, banana muffin that was really good. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five, was simply the quality of the oat milk. It was good, but not great. That said, if I lived in the area, it would not prevent me from coming. Other than that, it's a really cool shop. read more

First time here and enjoyed it so much! I got a cherry blossom matcha with coconut milk and my husband got a delicious latte, he got the cinnamon pull apart and I got a gf pastry which was so nice! They actually had a whole case of gluten free pastries which I appreciated. The interior is so cute and a lot bigger than meets the eye, there's a whole outdoor patio in the back which was so relaxing. The staff was friendly as well! Really enjoyed! read more

This was my first visit to Brū, recommended by an Atascadero local for a networking coffee meeting. While the front room at the entrance of this historic building is mostly taken up by the counter, there are back rooms with plentiful indoor seating and a large patio for outdoor seating. I ordered the Easy English open faced breakfast sandwich ($8): one egg over easy on an English muffin, with, avocado, tomato, cheese, and pesto. The fillings were fresh but the English muffin wasn't toasted and had no crunchy dimples. More like a soft, flat sourdough bun. Fresh, though. My small Cafe Americano ($3.50) was up to expectations and served in a big ceramic mug. We sat at a shady table for two in the garden and enjoyed the flowering greenery of spring. Service was on the friendly side of perfunctory. Plenty of street parking although the center median is a little tricky backing out of. I would return. read more

Everytime I visit Bru, I am greeted with the friendliest staff. their food items are amazing, I highly recommend their turkey avocado croissant, I've never had to wait long for my food or drink even when they're busy. Bru Coffee is a really convenient spot downtown, and overall I had a good experience. I ordered a cappuccino, which tasted good thanks to their use of Stumptown beans -- one of my favorite roasters -- so the quality was definitely there. That said, it seemed like someone newer might have been on bar duty. The drink wasn't very hot, and the foam looked like it had been scooped on rather than steamed smoothly, so the presentation was a bit off. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. We didn't try any of the food, but everything looked really tasty. I'd definitely go back, especially for a solid cup of black coffee where the great beans can shine. read more

OK, I understand my review might be strange because I'm not reviewing a coffee drink however I still gotta talk about it. Originally, I came in thinking I was going to order a latte, especially when I saw almond Joy on the menu, except I was feeling something more fresh. I was so excited when I saw that they had smoothies on the menu! I've worked at a coffee shop before and usually the smoothies that are offered on the menu have ice and some type of purée. I was surprised to know that their smoothies are just real fruit and juice. I ended up ordering the green smoothie and I'm so glad I did! I had the perfect balance of all the fruits my body was craving. I will definitely be back for that almond joy, though! read more

The food here is really good, I'm surprised for a coffeehouse they offer such a nice variety. Now the coffee was a let down.. I ordered two large americanos and it was more water than expresso ratio for the size. I should of ordered a small and then it would of been fine. I can tell that I got one expresso shot for at least 16oz of water. I added creamer to one and it was so watered down, it was terrible. read more

This place was recommended by a local board game store down the way. I was craving some yummy coffee! The shop it self was super cute and pretty good amount of sitting. The food was really good. The unnamed person offered no solutions and simply said, "It's just a bad look. We sell food, and we have a sign that says 'No outside food.'" I replied, "Okay?" Then I got up, excused myself from the interaction, ate my food outside, and ordered a biscotti once I had finished eating outside. The absolute best and completely hidden aspect of Bru Coffeehouse is their back patio, which is exceptional. From the outside, you would think this is just a small little coffee shop tucked in between other buildings but if you go in and walk through to the back, you will find a beautiful, serene back patio area with ample seating and a large fountain. I had been here a few times and never knew this existed until a local told me about it! Located in downtown Atascadero, there's also plenty of street parking outside! Their coffee is delicious, and they have lots of pastries! I absolutely loved their bagel breakfast sandwich - so, so yummy! People also rave about their breakfast burritos so I'll be trying that the next time I visit. The service is always friendly and welcoming, which is extra nice! Stopped by yesterday for the first time. Old school charm meets vintage vibes. They have a beautiful array of loose leaf teas and some of the best Puerh I have tasted. My favorite is the breakdown of caffeine and other things they give you on some 30 types of tea. Two rooms, a quaint back garden area... and local events posted everywhere. Also boards covered with local professionals' cards- which are such a great resource... Ambiance: Could be a little lighter, more sun exposure- but that's just me and most enjoy coffee shops that are a little dark and cozy. Came here with a big group of friends (about 13 of us) and was very happy with the experience. The cashier and barista were both super friendly despite being bombarded by at least 10 of our orders. I got an iced vanilla latte and it was great, I feel like the pricing was totally fair. The front inside was a little small but had ample seating and amazing natural lighting. Highly recommend if you were trying to get some work done on a laptop. STAFF Nicko and Rachel... helpful and delightful! Customer service is important to them and to please me is difficult. And both of them are extremely helpful. I highly recommend the service at this coffeehouse. FOOD The turkey croissant is excellent. The chipotle sauce makes it delightful and extremely interesting. I highly recommend it if you enjoy turkey and provolone. COFFEE The latte was served in a porcelain coffee cup/mug. It was an almond milk latte coffee is really good! VIBE The background music is heard, but not overpowering. Mix of different genres and music eras! There's places to sit in the open room in a smaller room or outback. What a delightful place. The wifi was really good, I was able to watch videos that my home wifi couldn't support. I got the green machine smoothie, it has pineapple, mango, spinach, banana, and apple juice. There is a few spots right in front on ek camino but main parking lot is a dirt lot. 6 feet markers are inside so you keep spaced out. Great coffee and great wraps. They make it per order.
