My wife heard about this from a friend who went to Cal Poly. Before my review I want to share that…read moreCayucos is seaside town that has escaped over development. Felt like we were in a time warp that took us to the 1970's. Ok, if you are in the area highly recommend going. We were in Pismo for the weekend and the 30 minute drive was easy at 8:30am when we left. It opens at 9am so I thought it would be good to be there then. And so did about 80 people. The line was to the end of the block. Don't be deterred. We were striking up conversations with everyone around us. You order at the window, they give you a number for the table, and they bring out your food. Look for the sauces they keep above the sugar cream station. Onto the food! We got the San Luis Sunrise (free range eggs, Niman Ranch bacon ends, avocado, hk sauce) and the Mannix Machaca (scrambled eggs, slow cooked carnitas, hk green salsa, avocado, hk sauce). I thought by the look of it that the waffles would be the winner....nope! The blue corn flour tortilla Mannix Machaca won the day! Oh, and the ridiculous smoothly the Baywood Berry. One is enough for two and they'll split it for you. Put this place on your must try list!

It was delicious, filling, and perfect for the morning. I also tried the Kicked Up Coffee, which was surprisingly good for a non-coffee drinker! Their beautifully presented smoothies are another favorite, with plenty of creative combinations. This place is always top-notch, with friendly, attentive staff, delicious food, and a clean atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop in Cayucos! And for lunch, their pork carnitas tacos are some of the best I've ever had.

I was craving something savory, so I ordered the Pain Bijou, the ham and cheese croissant, and a blueberry muffin. There was a long line, but the food came out quickly once we ordered. This place sells out, and they were already out of a few pastries. I was told I ordered the last ham and cheese croissant at about 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday. We enjoyed the blueberry muffin while we waited. It was filled with huge blueberries and had the perfect balance of sweetness. It was not too heavy and instantly became a favorite. The Pain Bijou was delicious and reminded me of the flavors of a sausage biscuits and gravy breakfast. The ham and cheese croissant was really good, but for two people we probably could have just stuck with the Pain Bijou and the muffin. I look forward to coming back the next time we are in Cayucos.

The eggs were fluffy and creamy, the pastries were perfectly flaky, and every bite tasted fresh and homemade. The strawberry scone and almond croissant were especially delicious! I had a lovely tea and cappuccino while sitting on the cute patio area, which was spacious, relaxing, and very walkable to the beach. The service was wonderful too -- the ladies working there were so friendly and welcoming, and they had great music playing that made the whole atmosphere feel cozy and happy. You can really tell this place is locally owned and made with a lot of love. While we were in line looking over the menu, the staff greeted several customers by name and already knew their orders, which made it feel like such a genuine community favorite. Everything was top-notch -- 10/10, would absolutely recommend if you're visiting Cayucos!

We were able to enjoy our meal with window viewing the ocean. The shrimp and chips were giant! The lobster quesadilla was satisfying. If you order a burger entree they come with fries but not the quesadilla.

The food was quickly served, and delectable -- I had a vegetable omelet, with a generous side of delicious potatoes, which were crisp on the edges and well-seasoned. The overall atmosphere and food were great. Our first visit was so enjoyable, in fact, that we went back a second time soon after, perhaps only a week's time... and were disappointed. We simply ordered the same as we previously had, so no menu changes for us, yet the experience was a change for the worse. Our food took a surprisingly long time to arrive (there was no one else in the dining room), subjecting us to music that was not classic jazz, but pop radio. When the food finally arrived the side of potatoes was limited and soft. The serving of avocado that topped my omelet was also noticeably reduced. The tomatoes had changed from fresh to sun-roasted, and the spinach was barely there. The previously generous serving of fries on the side of my husband and son's burgers was also reduced. The servers were all very nice both times, but when the food is inconsistent at a restaurant, that is unsettling because you can never go with any confidence that you'll get what you expect.
