My niece told us that we MUST take her boys (ages 12 and 9) to sweet reef to get their favorite taiyaki waffle stuffed with Oreos and shaped like a dish. The boys were begging for them. It was a challenge to find this place on the Embarcadero, but happy kids resulted. The waffles are 3 for $10 so the boys each got one and we split the third. We stopped by Sweet Reef for boba before heading on back to SF. The store location is easy to locate and has a nice waterfront view. The interior has a cozy, homey vibe, with some tables and chairs. I ordered a jasmine milk tea with boba and requested less ice. The drink itself was alright, I was hoping for a stronger tea flavor, but they did add more ice than expected. They also charge a small amount for drinks with light ice or no ice. However, the drinks seem to be priced fairly. They also have ice cream & açaí bowls. Customer service was quite friendly and welcoming, although there was only one person working & making drinks. I don't think there are other boba shops in the vicinity, so this may be the only option. Overall, it's an alright boba spot and possibly worth a visit if you're sightseeing in Morro Bay. read more

Came in over the weekend to take a break from the sun and grab a drink but my party was unfortunately really disappointed with our drinks. I noticed almost everything is store bought / powders. I had ordered the dirty horchata and it tasted sour and had no coffee flavor or horchata taste to it. If an establishment is going to be charging top dollar for drinks I'd at least hope they make some of their bases or inclusions themselves. You can't really call yourself a boba shop if you don't make anything yourself. The shop itself is pretty cozy, and there's a small section for local crafts and art. When we came in, there was only one staff member managing a few orders. Since the staff member was busy, we took our time checking out the art and craft section. Though it took awhile to get our orders in, the staff member was incredibly kind and informative. Sweet Reef is such a gem! The atmosphere is beautiful, cozy, and welcoming with super cute vibes. Service was excellent! The drinks were absolutely delicious! I tried the Peach Passionfruit and my boyfriend tried the Chai Thai Tea boba, and both were spot on. I also loved that they have art hung up on the walls that you can actually purchase, which adds a creative and local touch to the space. Plus, there are board games to play, making it a fun and relaxing spot to hang out with friends. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the area, I'll be coming back! read more

I'd give them a second chance... The day I was there, there was only one person working. The family in front of me was receiving their order shortly after I walked in and one of them was given the wrong size drink, which was corrected while I waited to place my order. I ordered a taiyaki flight and 2 drinks and the employee took 3 more groups' orders who were waiting behind me. The taiyaki were cute, but underfilled and pretty sloppy, making it quite difficult for the employee to remove them. He was very polite and they still tasted good. The drinks were pretty standard, (made from a mix), boba texture was good, but I did notice the other drink had nearly twice as much ice as mine. I didn't think it was worth going back in there when there were a about 12 people crammed in the shop and one employee who really seemed like he needed some grace. Overall, it was worth the experience and I'll probably give them another chance in the future. read more

They serve up fun-licious, freshly made taiyaki, along with many types of milk & bubble teas as well as coffees. There is a small ledge to sit and enjoy one's drink and/or taiyaki, but generally, items are made for take-away. We enjoyed four of their freshly made Taiyaki (fish-shaped waffles): Cookie Batter, Cheddar Cheese, Pizza and Taro Cream Cheese. All quite delicious. Different flavors and plain are available. This is a taiyaki and boba shop. It has really awesome wave wallpaper. Stopped in to buy freshly made to order taiyaki. Got two red bean paste taiyaki. They were hot, tasty, and oddly reminiscent of fig newtons. (Of course, they were NOT fig newtons). There was one person working in the shop, and he was extremely efficient, but very busy. Having had so much boba tea in my life, this spot was just decent! I tried the matcha with half sugar and my mom got the house milk tea with half sugar. Both turned out pretty sweet but I felt like it was the sugar in my matcha drink that saved it. There wasn't much matcha flavor and it tasted more like milk. The original milk tea was good but nothing special. You can hear music blasting from this boba shop before you enter. The smell of the taiyaki was incredible; had to stop myself from getting one. We were really surprised to find a boba shop on Morro Bay's Embarcadero, so our group of 5 decided to give it a try. The shop has a lot of potential, but the extremely sticky floor right from the get go is a pretty big turn off. The young man who helped us was polite, but didn't seem all that happy to be there. He did answer questions, but with a soft mumble. The beverages themselves were good, but this was some of the worst boba we'd ever had. It was undercooked (hard in the center) and tasteless. Cool that there's a boba option in Morro Bay and it's location is awesome, but if the focus is going to be boba drinks, the boba should at least be fully cooked. Sweet Reef being right below a sushi restaurant was a smart move. Because who can resist the smell of taiyaki before and after leaving a restaurant?! We got the taro milk tea with boba, strawberry matcha with lychee, and brown sugar matcha with boba + oreo taiyaki, nutella taiyaki, and cookie butter taiyaki. The strawberry matcha wasn't the tastiest in my opinion. It was heavy on the milk and light on strawberry syrup + matcha so that was a little disappointing. The taiyaki however were very delicious. What an amazing addition to the Central Coast! We've been in need of place that staisfies our Asian dessert cravings. The taiyakis are made fresh to order and come to you hot and crispy. They have unique drink flavor, we tried the coconut Chai which was great and unlike any other boba places. We also had the matcha which tasted like quality, along with the early gray which we found to be a bit strong but still very tasty. If you're a not a bug fan on tea flavors perhaps up the sweetness on the earl gray drink. Excited to come back and try more flavors! Decided to get this after dinner even though I was stuffed but did not disappoint! I got a large strawberry horchata with lychee jelly and my boyfriend got a large mocha peanut butter with boba and lychee jelly. The large is so worth it because it's only 75 cents more than the regular. The drink was sweet and fruity and the jelly was perfect. Recently we had the pleasure of finding Sweet Reef in Morro Bay on the Embarcadero. Since I really enjoy watching YouTubers Daniel and Yuka in Tokyo (they ordered the same while walking the streets in Shinjuku) I was thrilled to find an establishment that actually makes to order...Taiyaki, Sweet Reef is that place. Never tried Taiyaki you say? Well then...make this Boba and Taiyaki shop your next destination. Once we walked in to the "bright" yet sparsely decorated shop, we were attended to quickly by Jared (Owner) who was delightfully friendly and talkative. Unbeknownst to us...until Jared revealed it, Geology came before Taiyaki. But thankfully now instead of concentrating on rocks, Jared is busy making Boba ("Bubble Tea") and Taiyaki (Japanese Tai "fish-shaped" Waffle Cakes filled with your choice of Cheddar Cheese, Nutella, Oreo, and Cookie Butter). We ordered a Strawberry Horchata Boba (5/5 - fabulous taste) and 2 Taiyaki(s) : 1 Nutella (5/5 - freakin YUMMY) and 1 Cheddar Cheese (4/5 - delicious, but the Nutella had it beat) and we enjoyed them just as much here, as if we would have ordered them on the streets of Shinjuku. Kudos Jared and thank-you for your excellent Customer Service. With our desire for a little "something, something " satiated and an exchange of departing pleasantries, we took our leave knowing it wouldn't be long before we would find ourselves back at Sweet Reef. I am thrilled that more boba places are moving to SLO county! Sweet Reef is the perfect addition to Morro Bay. Located right on the main strip of Morro Bay you can find Sweet Reef. If the adorable name does not tempt you inside, then the wafting smell of the taiyaki will. Their menu is the perfect length, not too long that I get lost, but not a lack of flavor choices either. I went with the classic Taro with boba. I really enjoyed that they had two size options because most boba places do not do that. I ordered the smaller option, but I wish I opted for the big one instead! It was so delicious! Not too sweet at all and the boba was delectable! Not too chewy! I could not help myself and I also ordered a taiyaki. They are too cute to resist. Not to mention, so reasonable at only $3 a taiyaki. Taiyaki are little waffle cookies filled with different stuffings. I was a bit confused with the flavor options and the barista was very kind with her suggestions. I went with the cookie butter. It was AMAZING. It was still hard form the oven and literally oozed out cookie butter. I wanted ten more immediately. Next time, I want to try the taro cream cheese one! The only problem with being in downtown Morro Bay is that parking can be tricky especially on the weekends. You may have to walk a bit, but definitely worth it! There is no seating here, so I would recommend taking your boba along the pier and beach, and search for the otters in the bay. I will be back! read more

This is a new Dessert spot in Morro Bay on the Embarcadero! I had seen the suggestion recently and made it a point to find it and go in. Location: it is on the Embarcadero, but hidden on the 1st floor of a building that has a big sign for a Sushi restaurant. It is small but has tables and chairs for enjoying or for waiting for your order. They take payment by cash, card and Apple Pay! The Goods: we got a Medium Oat Milk Horchata, and a Large Thai Tea. I'm not a huge Thai Tea fan, but my partner enjoyed it! However, the real winner was the Oat Milk Horchata!!!! Wow. Delicious!!!! I try to live a dairy free lifestyle, so this made my day when I saw it was Oat Milk! The flavor was sweet and refreshing!!! My only regret: getting the medium instead of the large!!! They have plenty of boba options as well and some food items that we will be trying next time we are nearby. It's been a couple of days, and I want to go back for that Horchata though... so I'll have a follow up review soon!!! Service: They were very nice, attentive, and very welcoming! Sweet Reef is the best new addition to Morro Bay HANDS DOWN! Have you ever had Taiyaki before? Don't go anywhere until you have tried it at the Sweet Reef. Ever since taking my first bite, I have not been able to get it out of my mind! My fiancé and I have even considered making the 7 hour road trip from Reno JUST to get some Sweet Reef. The location: It's a small operation, with a walk-up counter. Someone is always there to help you out, with great customer service. There is a beautiful giant piece of honey barite on the counter that absolutely takes the breath away. The owner is a geologist, so that makes sense! The taste: The best thing I can compare taiyaki to is a crepe. It's fluffy, gooey, and rich. I have tried the red bean and the Nutella flavors. Next time I am going to try cheddar cheese. Nutella is my favorite, but red bean is amazing as well. The boba is amazing as well. Taro flavor all the way! They had a really great booth set up at the Kite Festival, and really enjoyed drinking boba while flying a kite. We're going to Morro Bay on our honeymoon and can't wait to have taiyaki for breakfast lunch and dinner! read more

This would be a 3 star boba place in a different city but I really appreciate having the option to even get boba while in Morro Bay. There are literally no other options and this place is okay. They sell taiyaki which is a fun plus as well. Shop is really small but the workers were nice. Drinks don't use real fruit (of course) so sweetness is tied to the syrup they add. The kids are enjoying their mango slush--delicious mango flavor (not sure if they use fresh fruit, but it sure tastes like they do--no artificial taste here), perfectly sweet, & equally perfect temp. Each sip is smooth & very enjoyable! I tried the strawberry milk tea with boba & am a happy camper! Ice-to-drink ratio is wonderful, wherein each sip is nice & chilled but not watery. This is a strawberry milk tea unlike that to which I am accustomed--I liken the gentle taste to Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream. I'm used to more sugary versions of strawberry milk tea; this version is still very much enjoyable! The boba is not quite as chewy as I like (totally a personal preference), but still a lovely sip through & through! Would definitely come back if ever in the area again! P.S. Kinda expensive for what it is. $6 for a kid size cup and their $7 "large" is the standard size everywhere else, not including topping. Their drinks are made up of syrup only, not fresh fruits. If you like syrup flavor drinks then you can be the judge of this. I would say the +1 star is because their boba taste pretty good. Tried their "Morro Bay Sunrise" and it was bitter; could not finish. Also had their Thai Ice tea, nothing to brag about. Their rewards program is kinda lame, it's not per drink but per visit, so basically order one drink walk out and order another one so I can get two stamps. I ordered 8 items and only got 1 stamp. I really like their strawberry matcha drink and usually get it with boba. I also got the taiyakis (custard, red bean, cookie butter) cookie butter was my fave. I like to ask for extra filling and to be cooked for 1 minute longer for a bit of crisp. The batter is more of a pancake batter than traditional taiyakis I've had and the first time I got it I didn't feel it was cooked long enough so that's why I ask for the specialized order. The service was okay and only because normally it's either 1-2 people working and if they have a big rush it could be some time. I do appreciate the workers though because I know they're trying to work as quickly as possible. The ambiance is nice, cute and small.
