Coffee has gotten better! Still not the best, but glad they have improved. Breakfast burrito is good, a little spicy which we liked. Blueberry muffin is okay, suuuuper sweet, but still edible. Wish they had dairy free cream cheese and/or dairy free cheese as an option! Service was pretty fast even on a weekend when it was busy. It's a charming spot with lots of outdoor seating options. Enjoy your favorite cup of coffee right on one of the calmest, most beautiful bays on the Central Coast. This spot is as good as it gets. Quiet, scenic, and perfect for slow mornings by the water. My hotel was directly across the street so I came here every morning before sunrise to watch the light spill over the bay. Dreamy AF... The coffee is good and the brand is growing with five locations now. This one is much smaller so the menu isn't identical to their bigger shops, but they still offer coffee, lattes, iced drinks, teas, juices, pastries, and a few breakfast and lunch items. All drinks are to-go only, with no ceramic cups, and I haven't tried their food items yet. The indoor space is tiny but full of personality with skate decks, memorabilia, vintage lunchboxes, and eclectic art. There's no indoor seating but the patio has incredible views. My bay capture doesn't do it justice so you really have to come experience it for yourself. read more

I love Nautical Bean and will return again in the future, but this trip was not a hit. I started my meal with my favorite drink from this shop, a Shot in the Dark. This is a chai tea with a shot of espresso and nobody does it like Nautical Bean! The staff are always very friendly, helpful and patient. They are never pushing no matter how undecided you are. And they are happy to make recommendations if you ask. I appreciate that all the portions are regular sized and nothing is so large that it's intimidating. All the food is well-made and the ingredients are fresh. There is outside seating at this location and no indoor seating. After your order is taken you are given a number and you can take that to your table. However, drinks are usually served at a pass out bar next to the cashier so don't forget to check for those drinks while you're waiting for your food. The mess on this trip was that I had ordered the avocado toast, which has tomatoes. The tomatoes were definitely not very ripe and I would've preferred that the staff let me know this instead of serving the avocado toast with subpar tomatoes. I would've just gone without the tomatoes. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheddar, and these were very rubbery and sort of gray in part. I ended up throwing the eggs away. While this experience wasn't the best, I will say that every other time I've eaten at this location it has been wonderful. I think this must've been an off day but like to be honest in my reviews. However, I will come back in the future and review this location again. read more

We just had some specialty coffee today. The cool thing about this little coffee spot is the location and the decor. Inside they have a really fun collection of old lunchboxes from the 60s-80s generation. I personally love nostalgic touches like this. The skate decks and famous memorabilia is super fun! Outside you have an awesome walk around the bay and several places to sit and enjoy the views. The service people are super nice and we got our drinks very quick even with a pretty large number of people around. We stayed for a bit talking about the lunchbox memories. read more

This is one of the coolest coffee shops I have been to. Absolutely loved the vibe, millenial core to the max with pop art and plastic lunch boxes on the walls, it's awesome. I got the mint chip latté. It had just a subtle mint chocolate flavor and it was rich and delicious. I also got the pumpkin muffin because I love pumpkin and it was just alright, the flavor can be improved but the texture was moist and fluffy, I will try another flavor next time. I love the location, right next to the water, and they had plenty of outside seating to enjoy the view with your food and drink. Parking could be challenging, as far as i could tell it's just street parking unless you are staying at the hotel next door or across the street. Either way, I will be back, next time I want to try their breakfast food because passing by it looked pretty good. They also have a really good setup with creamers and sweeteners if you just want a black coffee. read more

When you ask for your Mom's Eggs without bacon, they add extra avocado. The Shot in The Dark (chai tea with expresso) is a delicious boost. The bayside atmosphere is pleasant but as always in Los Osos, bring a jacket in case the Pacific Ocean sends the fog in. read more

On a recent girls weekend trip to the coast, my friend and I were staying nearby when we discovered the nautical bean. We loved it so much we ended up coming both mornings to grab our morning coffee and a bite to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed their latte and their avocado toast was tremendous. If I was a local, this would definitely be my go to coffee shop and breakfast spot. Although the line could get quite long, the service was always fast and friendly. I have become a big fan of Nautical Bean and was anxious to try their new location in Baywood Park. The service is still just as friendly and its location wonderful, but I dropped it one star for the following: 1. The menu is smaller than the other two locations and before noon they were already out of the "Everything Bagel." There are no salads on the menu. 2. There is no indoor or covered seating (just umbrellas) as at the other two locations. Given the chilly, coastal weather of Baywood Park, this can be an issue. The Saturday we visited, they began to close up and start cleaning 75 minutes before their scheduled 2 p.m. closing. 3. The coffee in the large dispenser was not hot. Some of these issues can quickly be addressed, others not. If you crave a breakfast sandwich or coffee outside or to go, this is still a good spot to visit, but it's not quite the equal of its two San Luis Obispo locations. read more

A word to ownership: we are long time visitors of Baywood, since the late 80's. We were very pleased with the incoming of Nautical Bean and have been a loyal supporter ever since, it's now always on my wife's to do list when we return to the area. Sadly, on our latest trip just last week, we noticed a significant dip in both quality and service. It just wasn't the same! And that's only since our last visit in May/June 2025. The newer staff were noticeably detached from the customer and the same caring attitude that we've grown to appreciate was signally absent. Be assured, we will continue to support and only left 3 stars to garner some attention to this post but please know...some further training is in order. read more

Quick comment...The best coffee period. My Husband and I come to area couple times a year to check on our daughter at Cal Poly. We stay in Los Osos at the Baywood Inn on the water.. If you are looking for some very tasty coffee, great breakfast bites, and a beautiful view to start your morning - look no further!! We were in Los Osos to visit family over the Thanksgiving weekend and were pleasantly surprised to see a Nautical Bean so close to our hotel! We had visited the SLO location on another trip and knew we would be in good hands. Not to mention our family gave rave reviews as well. We ended up coming here both mornings of our trip it was that good! The first visit I tried the White Lightning, which is 2 shots of espresso, white chocolate flavoring, and then you fill the remainder of your cup with your choice of their coffees ( I went with Nutty Bean - a yummy hazelnut-esque brew) It was strong, heavily caffeinated, and not too sweet. The next day I tried my boyfriend's order which was the Carmel Sutra. I must say, I have visited my fair share of coffee shops throughout Southern California, and this might be the best caramel latte I've had. Smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. I'd recommend either drink! We also tried the California Eggel and added bacon. It's your choice of toasted bagel, onion, tomato, avocado, egg, and our added bacon. It was a perfect breakfast sandwich and just filling enough to get you going without feeling overly stuffed. oh! And they're fur baby friendly - can they get any better?? They will gladly make you a pup cup, have treats in a container to give your pup, and have multiple water bowls outside. Overall, I truly love this place and 100% intend on coming back during any future visits to the area. I wish I was a local so I could enjoy it regularly. read more

I was always a fan of Nautical Bean in SLO as I used to live down the street. Definitely a very welcome addition to Baywood! The decor and makeover of the building is great. Tremendous amount of outdoor seating. The food is just as good, if not better than I remember having at the SLO location. It was great to see the owner there in person, making and serving food/drink.
