The pistachio pesto was very unique and tasted bright, fresh and nutty. The ricotta was creamy and fresh and the focaccia was herby and crunchy and airy.....I honestly regret not just getting a piece of it on its own. If you go on a Saturday morning while at the Bloomfield market, this place might look a little crazy! They serve soup (obviously), salads and sandwiches. People seem to go a little crazy for the sandwiches but alas I can't have them since I'm gluten free. They are very good about labeling their offerings so it's easy to figure out what's gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. I got the bean and chorizo soup and took some split pea soup to freeze (it's my favorite soup). The soup came out pipping hot that I had to wait a while before eating it. However it was good, not too spicy. My friend had a the girlfriend sandwich and it looked super yummy. They have limited seating so you might have to get it to go! I'm not even kidding, this is the best sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. From the bread to the combination of flavors between, it was incredible. The space is small but homey and the food is obviously homemade. There's also plenty of soups, sides and sandwiches in the to-go cooler. Love coming to Brothmonger, because they change up their menu so often that it keeps everything exciting. Most recently they have a roast beef sandwich (roast beefy weefs) on their menu and it is AMAZING. It is stuffed with rare roast beef, has horseradish, onion and cheese on rye. I tried this place on 6/6 after seeing it posted all over IG. I went for the Italian Wedding Soup sandwich. It was everything I imagined and more! I got there at 11 and was maybe the 5th person in line. It's a small, cute place, but got packed and cramped very quickly. I didn't wait very long for my food. The sandwich was piping hot! My only negative was that my soup cup was leaking and spilled entirely into my bag. Other than that, I enjoyed the sandwich in my car. I will definitely be returning for more! Went to Brothmonger recently for some soup and a sandwich on a cold cloudy day. This place gets a lot of foot traffic from the hospital and surrounding areas. My wife and I split a cup of the Minestrone and the Italian Wedding hoagie. The soup was decent at best, tons of vegetables packed into a cup, my one complaint was it wasn't piping hot like I enjoy my soup to be. The hoagie is served kind of cold, good flavor true to Italian wedding and no shortage of meat and toppings, the provolone and braised greens stood out on it. Little disturbing the amount of flies going around with no lids on the cans. It's counter service with a couple small tables inside, it's soup and speciality sandwiches with a passionate chef make this place worth trying out! read more

I got the boyfriend sandwich (pesto on focaccia bread) which was highly recommended to me by friends and pretty good, I will say my sandwich was much smaller than the buffalo chicken wrap for what was comparable pricing. The Mac and cheese was tasty- There was only one left in the fridge, they said another batch would be ready in a few hours, so we grabbed the last one and they microwaved it so we could eat it in the restaurant. read more

Everything is super fresh and 100% made with love. The dining area is very small and intimately cozy, like you're at your best friend's house. I ordered my food to-go, and it came out quickly. The cucumbers had a Korean-inspired dressing on them and were very crunchy. The soup had so much depth and creaminess - it tasted like there was cream in it, but it was vegan! The tomato pie is insane. It's crispy, greasy with the olive oil drizzle, salty, tangy, and just overall amazing. I'd come for that alone, it was so good!! 100/10 experience. read more

This little shop is a total gem. They serve hot, fresh soup daily (clearly labeled vegan, vegetarian, GF, nut free), plus the best sea salt + herb focaccia I've ever had. You can also grab pints to go, and their chalkboard menu features rotating soups, sandwiches, salads, pastas -- and the most amazing pizza on their focaccia. Just ask for no parmesan to make it vegan! The space is small and cozy with a cute table inside, and they post their weekly soup schedule on their website and Instagram. The leak and potato soup is not a common soup to find and this place knocked it out of the park. I was in the neighborhood and soup always catches my attention. I bought a pint and enjoyed it later for dinner and voilà! It was wonderful. Perfect blend of cream, potato broth, and spices, including a lot of thyme. I'm excited to go back and get some more. My only disappointment is to learn about the inspection. Standard not met: Cleaning and Sanitization. I hope not to see that next time I'm doing my review. read more

Brothmonger has been on my list of new hot spots to check out for a while, so when I was running errands in Lawrenceville I needed to stop in. From the second I walked in, the vibes were excellent. The spot is fairly unassuming yet cozy. Very few tables for sitting down, but customers are willing to share their space with you. I ended up ordering the Hungarian mushroom soup and a slice of the tomato pie. Both were absolutely delicious. The soup was creamy and earthy, but not overpowering on the latter. The tomato pie was so flavorful and tasted extremely fresh. Hands down the best tomato pie slice I've had in the Burgh. Service was friendly and fast. I highly recommend this spot to soup lovers out there. I know I'll be back to try a grab and go quart from their fridge. read more

I had a few of their to-go soups a few months ago, and was blown away by their cold dill/summer vegetables soup so I was interesting in seeing what they churned out in person. I tried their Italian meatball hoagie which tasted exactly like the soup in sandwich form-- their meatballs were very juicy and the hoagie held up really well even when dipped in the side of chicken jus. I love this concept and a few things on the menu: BUT the wedding soup hoagie was so salty I couldn't even eat it. And I LOVE salt. I got the chicken and gnocchi soup from the cooler. Heated it up today and there were zero gnocchi and maybe two pieces of chicken. The last time I picked up a quart of Pastina it had almost no pasta. The Mac and Cheese is AMAZING. The boyfriend is AMAZING but I've been disappointed in the things that cost a lot that you leave blind on. Only be ordering MTO in the future because buying blind is expensive. read more

A real highlight on a recent trip to Pittsburgh. Brothmonger has taken up residence in a small space, with just a few tables and couches and a walk-up counter. If you're meeting a few people for lunch, you're rolling the dice a little -- there's not a lot of space here. But we were all very happy with our soups, and the grilled cheese as well. And I think a lot of the appeal here is getting a soup or two to-go rather than eating it in house. At $14 a quart, the price point is very reasonable. And they're guaranteed to have several warm options as well as some additional choices that are to-go only, as well as potato salad and the like in the refrigerator (unless they've sold out of everything). Something for everyone. For me, the real tip-off that there was talent working in the back was the focaccia, which I meant to eat with my soup but I had devoured it before the soup ever came out. I see a ton of places serving comfort food out there, but too often it's in the form of pizza or burgers. Soup season is every season, especially if the soup is this good. read more

I'm a fan girl, grabbing soup down the street at Gina's or at LID this summer. I'm so happy they have a spot in Bloomfield now. Needing some lunch on Friday, I stopped in Brothmonger to get a chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese. Seeing the fridge, I grabbed a crab bisque for later. The chicken noodle soup is so flavorful. The noddles are big and in perfect condition (not soggy that it can get when cooked in broth). The grilled cheese is so delightful and perfect for a cooler day. The next day I have the crab bisque for lunch. It's delicious. Rich and with good chunks of crab. Best crab bisque I've had! People are friendly and service is efficient. I went here because it's close to my job and I had a COVID booster the day before and was feeling blah. It's a tiny little shop so don't expect a full restaurant experience. The menu is small too, so go for the feel-good soup and maybe a sandwich. It was like I was back home on a chilly afternoon after school and my mom made me a delicious bite before dinner. Those were often the best little meals. I ordered the chicken and greens soup and it was garlicky to perfection. I love garlic and it wasn't overwhelming, perfectly seasoned and made me feel great inside. I also got a sandwich to hold me over until dinner and the turkey was a little salty but still pretty good. We were craving soup since it was so cold out and found this spot. On a busy road like a Main Street in a downtown area we aren't familiar with. We found paid parking quickly. It was a busy lunch time since the hospital is right across the street but we found a small table. There are only 3. Limited menu. So, we ordered a minestrone soup and a grinder to share (Italian wedding grinder). There was one other "soup" on the menu, it was chili. Our minestrone soup that we ate immediately, wasn't hot it was only just warm. It was very chunky, very little broth. It was just alright. And the meatballs in the grinder were refrigerator cold. I'm conflicted because the flavor of the grinder was great, identical to Italian wedding soup. But it was hard to bite into such a cold meatball. It's possible that this is just how they serve it. Luckily it came with chicken broth on the side that we dipped into which warmed it up a little bit. Basically flavors good, just items not executed well. My girlfriend and I just got off the plane from LA, and were down the street in the rainy cold waiting for her hair appointment, and was immediately attracted to the idea of this place after a quick Yelp search. We got The Boyfriend sandwich and the Stuffed Pepper Soup to split. Both were delicious. The sandwich was right up my alley with the fresh focaccia, mortadella, ricotta and kale pistachio pesto, and the hearty soup warmed us right back up. It def took everything in me not to buy a pint of each of their grab and go soups in the fridge. Very cozy interior, not a ton of seating, but the service was fast so traffic is quick. read more

I have been to Brothmonger several times since they opened and have always had a delicious meal. Last week I placed a catering order for a small gathering I was having. The staff were so responsive and helpful in building my order with me to make the perfect menu. My guests loved everything, from the ginger chicken rice and coconut chickpea soups to the broccoli salad, fresh focaccia, and smoked gouda mac and cheese (which people were almost fighting over for the right to take some leftovers home). The portions were huge and there was plenty of food for everyone at incredibly good prices. This spot was awesome!! They are super cute and it's really chill in here. They have a rotating menu of soups that are all homemade from scratch. You can get a side of foccacia or chips and the foccacia really slapped. Definitely recommend this spot for lunch or just a good homey meal. I loved the clam chowder and my friend loved her chicken noodle. It was very dill forward which is lovely. They updated their hours recently too! They have some seating inside which I love.
