Wow, what a gem. My family and I were in the mood for pizza, and usually like to hit up Prime Pizza, however didn't want to trek out all the way out to West LA to get my kick. We stumbled on Brooklyn Square through sheer luck and was amazed at how delicious their square pizzas are. I had one of every slice, and also ordered a couple different sandwiches, all delicious. Now a separate review since I've come back: went in for a single slice and ate it NY style as I walked around Pasadena. It was perfect, especially since they had just brought out the whole pie it was cut from (that makes a difference with single slices; always aim for the freshest one.) Nice big foldable slice, with perfect crust. Excellent NY style pizza, great price too. And on a separate occasion, I tried the Honey Deniro and it was SO good. The sweetness of the honey cuts through the savory cheese and sauce, while the slightly caramelized crust holds it all together. This is the foodie's slice. Salivating as I think about my last Brooklyn Square experience... as the name suggests, this is probably the most Brooklyn-like dining experience in the LA area: the name is not a misnomer! With quality food ingredients, generous portions, a friendly staff and cleanliness--this place leaves little to be desired! Without question, you always get what you pay for and the flavor and quality at Brooklyn Square makes it all worth it. If looks could kill, this pizza would be on death row. BUT .... it's actually a disappointment. Why? The sauce. The crust was ok (could be slightly thinner) and the cheese is good. But the sauce? TOO SWEET. Almost ruins it. If they had a more acidic, less sweet sauce like at Tony's Pizza in San Marino or Tomato Pie in South Pasadena, then this pizza would be a major winner. They almost had it. As for the wings, it's not a good thing when I have to sauce them myself at home. This place looks the part but that sweet tomato sauce just ruins it. Nice to see a fresh new pizza spot in Pasadena, and as a native New Yorker I couldn't pass up the chance to try a Brooklyn-style slice on the West Coast. Like any classic NY pizza shop, they have the pies/ slices on display if you want to buy just a slice or two. The prices weren't super transparent by the slice, as the digital menu only lists whole pies. The selection was fairly decent with all the toppings you'd expect, including pepperoni, sausage, peppers, buffalo chicken, etc. Flavor-wise, I felt like the slices were fine, but nothing to write home about. The crust wasn't super flavorful, and neither was the cheese or sauce. Being generous giving 4 stars because i love thin crust pizza, but this doesn't really hold a candle to genuine brooklyn thin crust. Also it's fairly pricey, in my opinion. It was $16 for three slices - one regular and two with toppings. I wouldn't necessarily come back here, but my friends enjoyed it. Parking is somewhat challenging with limited street parking and a few garages nearby in downtown pasadena. Not a super big place, but there's some inside seating available for those who want to eat-in. read more

I was schlepping all over yesterday trying to find somewhere to eat. I was really wanting a sandwich, but two sandwich places that Maps led me to were closed. So after I'd walked about a cumulative mile, I was seated at a restaurant and waited. But service never came. After that I decided to walk down to this little place I saw when I was turning to go find parking. That just happened to be Brooklyn Square. It wasn't too busy (by the time I got there, it was about 2pm), and my order was taken right away. I went with the LouLou sandwich (sans tomato) and a canned Diet Coke. The person who took my order was nice and friendly, and told me my order would ready in 8 minutes. I washed my hands in their clean bathroom, and then waited just a few minutes and my order was up! I'm still not comfortable eating inside places, so I do wish they had a patio or even a couple tables outside. But, I took it back to my car to eat and it was really delicious. And huge! I could only eat half of it. I tried to save the other half, but I was out and about too long and ended up having to toss it, sadly. Very sadly, in fact, because it was delicious. I'm not even usually a pickle fan, but their pickles were really good and added a nice crunch to the overall sandwich. I'm not in Pasadena very often, but if I ever am, I won't be walking all around trying to find somewhere to eat. This'll be my first stop! read more

An unassuming pizza joint in Old Town. Arguably better than some of the slices of pizza we had in Brooklyn. Also approved by our friends who lived on the East Coast! A little bit pricey but tasty. There are a lot of choices in this area and they often have lines and waits. If you're craving a slice of pizza and don't want to wait, this is your place to go. We opted for individual slices versus whole pies. The whole pies are a little bit pricier but larger in size. Individual slices are also quite large. I'm not going to lie, the idea of pizza slices just sitting out did not appeal to me. But once they warmed it up, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm from New York originally and I must say this is by far the best NY style pizza I have tried in all of the Pasadena surrounding areas. It was my first time here. Fast and friendly service. The parking structure is right across them. $1 for the first hour. The slices are big as you can see. The toppings, cheese, dough, and sauce were very tasty and delicious. I would say 9 out 10 overall score. If the crust was a tiny bit thinner then it would be a perfect 10 out of 10 New York style. read more

Really stoked to try them out when they opened. Was gonna get two slices with a friend of pepperoni. Looking at the display, it had some sort of seasoning on it (rosemary?) on it but along with that was not just one but several gnats! I pointed it out to the cashier and she said it was just the pepper but when she moved her hand past they literally jumped up and flew around! So funny. I hope it was just a bad culmination of factors leading to that interaction and I'm sure maggots and whatnot are in all our food in some sort of the process but I draw the line when they are actively flying around the end product. I ate here a week ago. The pizza was okay. Not terrible. Nothing special. Good enough for a quick slice. I had a grandma and a grandma with sausage. Why am I giving it one star? A piece of plastic wrap was found cooked in one of my slices. It was a rather large chunk of plastic. The manager or whoever was in charge at the time offered to give me a replacement slice, but I had lost my appetite and had no interest in consuming more plastic in my body. She then offered me a refund. She seemed somewhat concerned for me. She asked for my name and number for the owner to call me. I never received a phone call. Supposedly, someone named Amanda was suppose to call. It's been a week now and nothing. I grew up in the restaurant business. My dad had a few very small restaurants that opened and closed in his lifetime. I'm very forgiving when hair is found in my food. Things happen that can't be controlled. However, I don't see why plastic should be anywhere near my food. What's more alarming is no one contacting me to reach out for my well being. There is no way my dad would've ever let that happen. So I urge you to take your business somewhere where the people in charge actually consider their customers. This place does not. I was on a call with Mom when she dropped a subtle hint about a pastrami sandwich for lunch. Don't know about you but when your 88 year old Mother asks for something...you jump. Found Brooklyn Square on Yelp and decided to make the drive. That was a great call. First impression walking in was immaculate. The place is spotless. It has comfy, welcoming feel with a sorta techy edge. Big TV's on the walls, digital menu and a huge display case showing all the pizza's by the slice. A huge variety of sandwiches. Plus they'll let you mix n match the fillings if you want. Pizza by the slice or order a whole pie. Beers on tap. Pretty much something for everyone. And best of all, the food is great. Mom got her pastrami and I got a Local Lou (Turkey) for Dad. Even though it was a bit out of the way for me, seeing the smile on Mom's face after the first bite made it all worth it. After the 55th hot pot/shabu shabu grill spot attempt at this location. Brooklyn Square is making an attempt at this spot that has the Ruby's Diner curse. For any old Pasadenian (or is it Pasadenan?) who remembers the 80s and 90s. This used to be an old Ruby's Diner. The ghosts of burgers pst have cursed all future businesses from Succeeding. Brooklyn Square (we will not call the BS for short.....) is the latest attempt at making money and serving food. I have eaten there many times. And i gotta say, I like it! Good clean Boars Head deli and NY style pizza. Well done and tasty. No frills. No mess-ups. Good portions. They get my thumbs up and clean award. Pretty decent food. I think our office didn't order too wisely and ended up ordering way too many sandwiches and not enough pizza. I must say that both the pizza and sandwiches are great quality. The flavor of the cheese had a very distinct lovely flavor of parmesan, with the right amount of crunch in the crust. Mixed greens offered a very generous portion of avocados. The sandwiches are pretty good, but nothing earth shattering, as the non-meat toppings are pretty standard. A big plus with the sandwiches is that the portion of meat is quite generous. read more
