Steelhead
Ben F.

I entered the doors in a full sprint, escaping the laughably powerful gusting walls of sleet rolling down the street. I was glad to be greeted warmly before heading to the bar. I took a moment to study the vintage photo of the original firehouse that now serves as the brick bones of the restaurant. Awesome seeing the original garage doors and recognizing where the fire trucks would have sat in waiting. They even kept the fire pole above the bar. I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather. I ended up ordering the fresh steelhead and it was amazing. Caesar salad was lovely. And the drink of the night was called something like a White Christmas but was sort of a wintery margarita. Awesome night in the end. But I prefer the Redmond location.

Blackened Wagyu Ribeye...I forgot to take a photo before eating!

I did a very quick (stay wise) trip up to Spokane from California and was on my third day of driving when I reached Bend, so I decided to spoil myself and have a nice steak dinner. I found Brickhouse thanks to Yelp! and I was sold when I saw they had French Onion Soup and Blackened Ribeyes. The only problem was that it was a Sunday night and it would be 8 pm when I finally made my way there. They were open until 9 pm, but I know a lot of restaurants will close early if they don't have enough patrons. When I showed up at the restaurant I asked if they were still serving and the waitress that helped me went to check. The Manager came out and was very nice and said they were. I asked for the bar and he led me over to the bar with a menu. The bartender was incredibly nice from the get go. I should have written the review earlier, because then I would have remembered his name, but unfortunately it escapes me now. I already knew what I wanted but I didn't want to rush through it. I ordered a dirty martini and the French Onion Soup. Both were great. The soup was loaded with Gruyère, which I loved. It was rich and wasn't overwhelming with the onions. It hit the spot on this cold (to the Californian) night. The bartender recommended I try the Wagyu ribeye and I figured why not? So, I got the Blackened Wagyu Ribeye. It came with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies which were both really tasty. I like mashed potatoes, but I'm not crazy about them, but these were really good. The steak was huge and they cooked it perfectly. The blackening seasoning wasn't quite as flavorful as I am used to, but it was still good. I managed to get through the cap of the ribeye and that was delicious. I also had a glass of wine with my steak that the bartender helped me pick. Everything was really tasty, the restaurant was clean and upscale looking, and the people working there were very nice. It was the perfect way to spoil myself after transporting my foster kitten to Spokane and then driving back to California. I would definitely return if I make a trip through Bend again.

6 oz Filet Mignon with fondant potatoes and seasonal veggies
Pamela F.

Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Brickhouse. The friendly, prompt service from Devon and delicious, well prepared food were certainly highlights. Some of the best French onion soup I've ever had, and I've tried many. The wedge salad was scrumptious if a bit overdressed. The cook on my petite filet was just perfect and the upgraded to fondant potatoes on request was very appreciated and they were quite well done. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the bread service, which was fairly meh. This restaurant is housed in an old firehouse that has been restored, which adds to its charm. What wasn't charming was the very strong fish smell upon entering the front door (so off-putting we considered making an immediate 180 and leaving upon our arrival). We grinned and beared it ~ but made sure to steer clear of any seafood options. Also subpar was the very sloppy appearance of the hostess. We laughed about "being old people now" but wearing a ragged shirt off the shoulder with her tacky bra strap showing with faded jeans and dirty tennis shoes just isn't congruent with the upscale steakhouse vibe it seems they're striving for here. Rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 because the food and service were very good.

Great service. Expansive drink and food menu. I had the halibut special and wedge salad which was amazing! The Hemingway daiquiri was perfect.

This is our second time here and we can't ever get enough. Our server both times has been Glen and he is phenomenal, checks on you just enough, knows the ins and outs of the food and drinks. We adore him. The food is melt in your mouth perfection and cooked so well. We will keep coming back for the amazing service and food. I say 100% worth the prices. The food we got this time was 8oz bacon wrapped filet mignon with crab and lobster on top, so filling and cooked perfectly. The other dish is the bacon wrapped filet mignon with a HUGE lobster tail. Also a must try is the pork belly, if you like pork belly this place makes it the absolute best, so mouthwatering and full of flavor!

Rack of lamb.

We stayed at Seventh Mountain resort for our anniversary and there were so many choices around for food. This place had good reviews, so we were in. The wife had the halibut and I had the rack of lamb. It was cooked perfectly. Both meals were delicious. The service was also outstanding. It can be a little pricey, but hey, it's a special occasion and was worth the $$ for sure. Will go back next visit. Thanks for an awesome experience and great meal!!

Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops
Andrew H.

Sat in the back bricked room with a lit fireplace. Started with cocktails and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. Excellent dish, served with four big scallops seared perfectly with just enough sauce to add poppin' flavor. We split a Caesar Salad, which was portioned very well. For entrees, we paired the American Wagyu Steak with the Prawns Scampi. The scampi is a poor man's lobster tail and an excellent addition to go with the steak. Richard's service was outstanding.

Do they have gluten-free options?

Is this suitable for kids? We have one kid (4 yo) in our group of adults but want to be sure!

They have outdoor seating which might be best or they also have dining in the back which I think would be fine. The front dining is open to the Bar. Great food!

It was incredibly dry without any sauce, served with roasted potatoes (instead of mashed as advertised), and came with a little salad... there was no dressing on the salad, so it was really of no added value on the plate. I really wanted to like this place, but even the service is just a little "off" from my expectations. I sat for over 10 minutes with no contact from a server. No water. And the place had no air conditioning on a day that was 80 degrees. I don't think I'll give this place a third try, but I hope they can fix the problems. I like their concept and location.

Fortunately, we were greeted quickly and escorted to our feeding corral before I had time to wander off and embarrass my wife. It seems like just about anywhere you sit comes with a great view. They've clearly put some thought into making sure everyone has something beautiful to look at, which took a little pressure off me. Our waters were filled promptly, and our waitress was attentive, kind, and welcoming. She had that perfect sense of timing that makes you feel taken care of without making you feel like you're under surveillance. We started with clams to share, and they were excellent. Everything tasted so fresh. Then there was the warm sourdough bread. Do not skip the bread. I went in thinking I was a reasonably disciplined adult, but apparently all it takes to dismantle that illusion is warm sourdough. We ordered the clams to share. The bread required a little more personal maturity. We both ordered the special, blackened sea bass, and this is where lunch became something worth writing about. A lot of places struggle with seasoning. Either the chef waves the spice jar vaguely in the direction of the kitchen, or applies enough to punish you for something you did in a previous life. Anthony's got it just right. The bass was juicy, scrumptious, and spicy, with enough seasoning to make every bite interesting while still letting you taste the fish. The rice was delicious and perfectly cooked, and the broccolini deserves some recognition of its own. Beautifully cooked and full of flavor, it actually earned its place on the plate. Usually vegetables are there so I can tell my wife I'm making good choices. This time I was happy to eat them. Best of all, the price was very reasonable for the quality of the meal. Fresh, excellent food, a comfortable setting, wonderful service, and lovely views, all without needing to schedule a meeting with our financial adviser afterward. Five stars, happily given. We will definitely be back. I'm already looking forward to being escorted to our feeding corral again.

It might now have been her day, because the other waitress brought over water and bread to other tables, but we sat with no waters, which we had to ask. And no bread? My wife wasn't too hungry so she split her hamburger sandwich with our daughter and they enjoyed their burger and French fries. The restroom were clean and the restaurant also clean and well maintain. The view is nice with the old mill town and people shopping and some rafting down the river. They also were pet friendly as they had customers with their pets sitting at the outside dinning area.

I'm from the East coast (3 hour time difference) so I was psyched to find the Blacksmith had a very nice Happy hour menu. Let me back up, I walked in and was immediately welcomed by the hostess. Since I was alone, I opted for the bar. I sat on the corner between 2 locals having a conversation, as it turned out the woman next to me was the owner. By the way, she wasn't drinking. She was watching. In between conversations with people at the bar, she stepped in to help the staff; making drinks, meeting guests at the door, checking on customers, answering the phone, whatever. I've frequented enough restraurants around the world to know this is a sign of successful place, and it was. Back to the dining. So Happy Hour, at least Wednesday and Thursday evening last until 6:00. As I said they have a nice little menu. I ended up with the Teres Major, with asparagus and a sizable loaded baked potato, for $36! The Teres Major is not common on the East coast, but I've found it to be a great cut; lean but flavorful. I ordered it medium and the chef nailed it! As espected, it was delicious. As was the baked potato and asparagus. The loaded part came on a little side serving dish so you can pick and choose sour cream, bacon, cheddar cheese, and/or scallions, am I missing anything? And the asparagus were not thin and cooked perfectly. OK, I'm a bit of a wine snob, but I was on someone elses dime, so I hate to break the bank. So I figured I'd try the house wine (at HH prices) and it was pretty good. I'm not adverse to buying a pour out of my pocket, but this wine was more than fine. Even though I was pretty full by the end of my dinner, I was in too deep not to try dessert especially when I saw they had bread pudding, yeah it was awesome. Ok, I know, it sounds too good to be true, I thought so too. So I went back the next night and it was just as incredible! The scallops were perfectly tender, and while the pasta was a little on the greasy side, it was still packed with flavor. We also had a salad and the beef carpaccio to share. The carpaccio was delicious, though I think it would have been even better with a different type of crackers since the ones served were a bit too hard.
