Steelhead
Ben F.

I entered the doors in a full sprint, escaping the laughably powerful gusting walls of sleet rolling down the street. I was glad to be greeted warmly before heading to the bar. I took a moment to study the vintage photo of the original firehouse that now serves as the brick bones of the restaurant. Awesome seeing the original garage doors and recognizing where the fire trucks would have sat in waiting. They even kept the fire pole above the bar. I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather. I ended up ordering the fresh steelhead and it was amazing. Caesar salad was lovely. And the drink of the night was called something like a White Christmas but was sort of a wintery margarita. Awesome night in the end. But I prefer the Redmond location.

Blackened Wagyu Ribeye...I forgot to take a photo before eating!

I did a very quick (stay wise) trip up to Spokane from California and was on my third day of driving when I reached Bend, so I decided to spoil myself and have a nice steak dinner. I found Brickhouse thanks to Yelp! and I was sold when I saw they had French Onion Soup and Blackened Ribeyes. The only problem was that it was a Sunday night and it would be 8 pm when I finally made my way there. They were open until 9 pm, but I know a lot of restaurants will close early if they don't have enough patrons. When I showed up at the restaurant I asked if they were still serving and the waitress that helped me went to check. The Manager came out and was very nice and said they were. I asked for the bar and he led me over to the bar with a menu. The bartender was incredibly nice from the get go. I should have written the review earlier, because then I would have remembered his name, but unfortunately it escapes me now. I already knew what I wanted but I didn't want to rush through it. I ordered a dirty martini and the French Onion Soup. Both were great. The soup was loaded with Gruyère, which I loved. It was rich and wasn't overwhelming with the onions. It hit the spot on this cold (to the Californian) night. The bartender recommended I try the Wagyu ribeye and I figured why not? So, I got the Blackened Wagyu Ribeye. It came with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies which were both really tasty. I like mashed potatoes, but I'm not crazy about them, but these were really good. The steak was huge and they cooked it perfectly. The blackening seasoning wasn't quite as flavorful as I am used to, but it was still good. I managed to get through the cap of the ribeye and that was delicious. I also had a glass of wine with my steak that the bartender helped me pick. Everything was really tasty, the restaurant was clean and upscale looking, and the people working there were very nice. It was the perfect way to spoil myself after transporting my foster kitten to Spokane and then driving back to California. I would definitely return if I make a trip through Bend again.

6 oz Filet Mignon with fondant potatoes and seasonal veggies

Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Brickhouse. The friendly, prompt service from Devon and delicious, well prepared food were certainly highlights. Some of the best French onion soup I've ever had, and I've tried many. The wedge salad was scrumptious if a bit overdressed. The cook on my petite filet was just perfect and the upgraded to fondant potatoes on request was very appreciated and they were quite well done. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the bread service, which was fairly meh. This restaurant is housed in an old firehouse that has been restored, which adds to its charm. What wasn't charming was the very strong fish smell upon entering the front door (so off-putting we considered making an immediate 180 and leaving upon our arrival). We grinned and beared it ~ but made sure to steer clear of any seafood options. Also subpar was the very sloppy appearance of the hostess. We laughed about "being old people now" but wearing a ragged shirt off the shoulder with her tacky bra strap showing with faded jeans and dirty tennis shoes just isn't congruent with the upscale steakhouse vibe it seems they're striving for here. Rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 because the food and service were very good.

Great service. Expansive drink and food menu. I had the halibut special and wedge salad which was amazing! The Hemingway daiquiri was perfect.

This is our second time here and we can't ever get enough. Our server both times has been Glen and he is phenomenal, checks on you just enough, knows the ins and outs of the food and drinks. We adore him. The food is melt in your mouth perfection and cooked so well. We will keep coming back for the amazing service and food. I say 100% worth the prices. The food we got this time was 8oz bacon wrapped filet mignon with crab and lobster on top, so filling and cooked perfectly. The other dish is the bacon wrapped filet mignon with a HUGE lobster tail. Also a must try is the pork belly, if you like pork belly this place makes it the absolute best, so mouthwatering and full of flavor!

Rack of lamb.

We stayed at Seventh Mountain resort for our anniversary and there were so many choices around for food. This place had good reviews, so we were in. The wife had the halibut and I had the rack of lamb. It was cooked perfectly. Both meals were delicious. The service was also outstanding. It can be a little pricey, but hey, it's a special occasion and was worth the $$ for sure. Will go back next visit. Thanks for an awesome experience and great meal!!

Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops
Andrew H.

Sat in the back bricked room with a lit fireplace. Started with cocktails and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. Excellent dish, served with four big scallops seared perfectly with just enough sauce to add poppin' flavor. We split a Caesar Salad, which was portioned very well. For entrees, we paired the American Wagyu Steak with the Prawns Scampi. The scampi is a poor man's lobster tail and an excellent addition to go with the steak. Richard's service was outstanding.

Do they have gluten-free options?

Is this suitable for kids? We have one kid (4 yo) in our group of adults but want to be sure!

They have outdoor seating which might be best or they also have dining in the back which I think would be fine. The front dining is open to the Bar. Great food!

Three words: OUT. STAND.ING…read more Every aspect of our service and food was on point. Delicious warm fry bread, delectable and savory Brussels, cream corn, and potatoes, and our steaks - cooked to absolute perfection. Eating here is slow and relaxed there is a very "no rush" feel. The menu is upscale and needs to be reviewed, but it's an educational journey into steak and well worth listening! You also get to learn about steak knives and pick out your own steak knife. Hell's Kitchen does not even compare to this place! Best dinner experience in Central Oregon! #1 in my book.

I'd avoided this place somewhat because the menu looks non-traditional and a bit scary. If you feel that way, get past it. The things at the very top are effectively amuses bouches, not even starters. Then below that you have shared starters (pork collar lettuce wraps amazing!) , then salad/soup if you want (the gazpacho was simply amazing and Steve's description made it even better). The bread, oh my god, the bread. Some Spanish or Portguese flat fried round bread with tallow on it -- you don't need the butter, trust me. In fact, perversely, that was the only issue with the meal. We ate too much bread. Next time, I'd eat half a roll each and bring the rest home. The steaks were simply superb, the crust amazing, the cooking temperatures perfect. I used both Steve and ChatGPT to help me pick mine (the Eye of Rib). The hangar, the bavette, and even the filet (not my fav) were all great as well. But I liked my pick the best. No room for dessert, none whatsoever, but they gave us a free madeline which was yummy as well. A++, best restaurant in Bend, can't believe how long it too me to come here. Don't fear the menu, it's not that complicated and the server will make it easy when they explain it to you.

I was traveling on business last week to Bend and had the fortune to find the Blacksmith for…read moredinner. I'm from the East coast (3 hour time difference) so I was psyched to find the Blacksmith had a very nice Happy hour menu. Let me back up, I walked in and was immediately welcomed by the hostess. Since I was alone, I opted for the bar. I sat on the corner between 2 locals having a conversation, as it turned out the woman next to me was the owner. By the way, she wasn't drinking. She was watching. In between conversations with people at the bar, she stepped in to help the staff; making drinks, meeting guests at the door, checking on customers, answering the phone, whatever. I've frequented enough restraurants around the world to know this is a sign of successful place, and it was. Back to the dining. So Happy Hour, at least Wednesday and Thursday evening last until 6:00. As I said they have a nice little menu. I ended up with the Teres Major, with asparagus and a sizable loaded baked potato, for $36! The Teres Major is not common on the East coast, but I've found it to be a great cut; lean but flavorful. I ordered it medium and the chef nailed it! As espected, it was delicious. As was the baked potato and asparagus. The loaded part came on a little side serving dish so you can pick and choose sour cream, bacon, cheddar cheese, and/or scallions, am I missing anything? And the asparagus were not thin and cooked perfectly. OK, I'm a bit of a wine snob, but I was on someone elses dime, so I hate to break the bank. So I figured I'd try the house wine (at HH prices) and it was pretty good. I'm not adverse to buying a pour out of my pocket, but this wine was more than fine. Even though I was pretty full by the end of my dinner, I was in too deep not to try dessert especially when I saw they had bread pudding, yeah it was awesome. Ok, I know, it sounds too good to be true, I thought so too. So I went back the next night and it was just as incredible! And I have to say one thing, especially as a solo business traveler, is finding a place that is welcoming is important and Blacksmith is that and more. I highly recommend.

Thankfully, they let you add your name to the waitlist so you can explore downtown Bend while you wait, which worked out perfectly since it's surrounded by cute shops and walkable streets. We came here to celebrate our two year anniversary, and it was the perfect date night spot. The atmosphere was warm, dark, and romantic with a rustic Western inspired feel that felt not overdone but fit Bend perfectly! For dinner, we ordered the scallops with the squid ink pasta. The scallops were perfectly tender, and while the pasta was a little on the greasy side, it was still packed with flavor. We also had a salad and the beef carpaccio to share. The carpaccio was delicious, though I think it would have been even better with a different type of crackers since the ones served were a bit too hard. Overall, the food, atmosphere and close location made for a great evening. If you're planning to dine here, definitely make a reservation ahead of time!

I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. I had always wanted to try them, so I stopped in, and I've loved them ever since. They have the texture of chicken gizzards, and have kind of a liver-y taste, but not nearly as strong. It's hard to describe the flavor other than they are very good. I was passing through Bend, so I had to stop in again. This is a very down-to-earth place. Nothing fancy at all. They left the food speak for itself. My server was. Kenzie, and she was very friendly and helpful. They are more than just a steakhouse, they have a very large, varied menu The mountain oysters are normally an appetizer, but I had them as a full meal. I also had a side order of the coleslaw. To drink, I had a fruity lemonade. I don't remember what it was, but I do remember that it was very good, the fruit played well with the lemonade, and it was not too sweet. The mountain oysters were delicious, pounded thin, and not over breaded. They came with two dipping sauces, a Housemade barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño mustard. I loved the barbecue sauce, it was just a little bit sweet, and a little bit tangy. The jalapeño mustard, also very good, reminded me of a Dijon, and you could just taste the jalapeños. They didn't overpower the mustard. The coleslaw was also very good, it was not overdressed, and I'm not sure what the dressing was, but it was savory and just a little bit tangy. I took my dessert with me to go. I had the MarionBerry bread pudding. It was moist, and a little bit sweet, but not too sweet. It was an excellent bread pudding, and of course I forgot to take a photo. They were generous with the berries, and they really played against the bread pudding so well. It came with a caramel sauce which was very good, but I preferred the bread pudding without the caramel sauce, because I felt that the caramel sauce clashed with the berries a bit. For all I got, the price was very reasonable, and they do offer a military/veterans discount. I will be back the next time. I'm in town. Thanks
