The service time for food delivery is pretty long, however. Owner is amazing and ALWAYS ensures that guests enjoy their meal and experience. Ask for Susan - she is fabulous especially in a time when Customer Service is not a primary concern for most business and restaurants! Price: $$$ / $$$$ for local pricing. When we came here last year the quality and service had improved quite a bit since opening. We meant to come back, but they are never open when we want to visit. How can a restaurant in a crowded shopping area remain closed when there are hungry shoppers all around? Somehow, over the last year, they took a downturn. My husband and I were hoping for a nice meal at what looked like a nice restaurant . We were the first people Inas they had just opened for dinner. Unfortunately, our dinners were substandard . I ordered the beef stroganoff, the meat, what I could find, was tuff and just random little chunks of different types of meat. The waitress said they used trimming of other cuts to make the dish. Hello! for $30. No salad, no veggies. Just pasta a flavorless sauce, and random bits of meat. my husband had a hamburger, it was dry . We won't be going back there for sure. Waitress was friendly, but of no help with the terrible food. We were the only people there for almost an hour. Don't waist your money. Terrible dinner - if it wasn't for the great company of our family, it would have been a total bust. We should have known when we came in for a 6:30pm reservation on a Friday night and the place was mostly empty. We waited over an hour for our food. When the food did arrive, it didn't come out at the same time, leaving half our table awkwardly waiting for their meals. The stroganoff used obviously old meat and was over-salted to cover it up. The ambiance is dark, . I for one like to see what I am eating, looking around I couldn't find my silverware and I had to ask for it I was granted a knife spoon and a fork a little while later . The food was ok, and the salad was delicious the wait staff seemed very interested in the female clientele sitting next to us . Maybe that's why my flatware was misplaced. Overall a nice place to eat a little pricy. For me.. but those eating next to me they received excellent service. Had a 5:45 reservation for 6 of us on NY Eve. Got seated about 5 min. After being seated we did not see a waitress for 15 min. No hello, no water nothing. Finally a waitress showed up and took our drink order. 22 min later she came back with our drinks. She took our order and we asked for water. She then took the order of the the table next to us. They had been seated for 30 min. After 30 min we were brought our salads, oh and finally some water! The restaurant took reservations and it was fairly crowded. They had 3 waitstaff and two chefs. Obviously, by taking reservations, they knew how many people to expect. If you don't have the staff, then don't take the reservations. Finally at 7:30, 1:45 min from when we sat down, I went to inquire about our dinners. I spoke to a waitress about our food. She said they are busy are try the best they can. Then she said to me " If you don't like it, you can leave". I said ok, we will. I went back and told our group what was said and they agreed with me about leaving. They could not believe the service we had and the comment that was made. I went back to tell the staff that we were leaving. i believe I spoke to the back manager. I told him how long we had waited and the comment made by the waitress. He made absolutely no reply. We then left. This type of service is completely unacceptable for a restaurant. What can we say!? Absolutely delicious Prime Rib for dinner this evening. Not only perfectly prepared Prime Rib...but the Cesar salads were perfect with freshly prepared croutons. Yummmm Our server Tiffany was very professional and pleasant...as well as Brandon, the General Manager who visited our table to see how our dinner was. We appreciate a wonderful evening out and will definitely come back. The new owner was very friendly and she's apparently doing a great job. Bad Food. Worse Service. Food Poisoning. ** Avoid This Place ** Top line * Bad Service (at best) * Awful food - served cold and late. * Zero oversight. No customer follow-up. Didn't care that our food was cold, late and awful. No table beverage service. * One diner got Food Poisoning (hospitalized). The Story We made Saturday night reservations for a nine-person group, what we hoped to be a nice meal with friends. We confirmed our reservation, and we showed up early. A few of the early birds went to the bar first, while the rest of us waited in the lobby and were seated at our table where a person took beverage requests and left. Within five minutes, another staff person came to our table and asked if we wouldn't mind if they seated us in another section. We obliged and said, "We just ordered beverages from a person - can you have those moved to the new table?" The staff person said that the beverages would come to the new table (they never did). All of our group combined at the new table and it was clear that we didn't have enough settings, water or water glasses waiting. None of the staff seemed to notice once we were seated - not the Hostess or any other servers. It was up to request, and find, additional glasses, silverware and napkins. The server arrived after a bit. Those of us from the first table told him that we'd already requested beverages - he seemed perplexed by this. Apparently, our request made (15+ minutes earlier) had not been delivered to the bar or communicated to this server. OK, so we requested beverages again (four non-alcoholic bevvies). We requested Appetizers - Onion Rings, Brussel Sprouts and Bread - for the table. The Onion Rings arrived with the Brussel Sprouts. Both were OK, but neither the plates nor food were hot (perhaps sitting under heat lamps). The garlic-buttered bread arrived and was cold in the middle, warm outside. Since we were all hungry Initial salads and one soup order arrived after about 10 minutes. Salads were overdressed. The soup was cold (Chowder). We flagged down a server from another section and asked if he could either find our server or take back the soup and heat it up. He found our original server and in five minutes, the soup returned properly heated. Again - we had to find someone else to take care of this situation - our server was absent, as he would be throughout the evening. Then we waited for our Entrees . . . We waited. And waited. And waited. And waited . . . Nobody came to our table to give us an update. Two people stepped away from the table to make phone calls, inasmuch as no meal serving was imminent. It wasn't. More than 40+ minutes later, the Entrees arrived. BUT not all at the same time. A few people received their plates. Most didn't. And the people who received food noticed that their food was not hot - it was lukewarm or cold. The rest of the plates arrived five minutes later. Similarly cold. The person next to me had a Hamburger. It was cold (hard to do). My pasta was cold and the scallops were old and rubbery + over-sauced. Most of the rest of the people faced similar disappointment. The person who ordered the Rigatoni ate some of his - said it tasted bad. He ended up in the Hospital with Food Poisoning. I would've sent back the pasta I received (cold, old rubbery scallops, over-sauced), BUT THERE WAS NO SERVER WHO EVEN ASKED HOW OUR FOOD WAS. I pushed the plate away. NOTE: People at a Dining Table behind us complained that they'd received cold, old appetizers that had previously been delivered to another table (you could see the appetizers sitting on the other table after the people left). We overheard this - and it should have been a sign to leave. The Net 1. Awful service. a) People were never asked if they wanted a second beverage. b) Waiter disappeared most of the time. 2. Late, cold food. a) Soup was served cold (Chowder!). Hamburger was served cold. b) Pasta and scallops were lukewarm at best. Scallops old and poorly seared. 3. Server never even asked or followed up about how our meals were. a) Most of the group didn't eat or finish their meal. b) I would've sent my meal back if anyone had showed up. But nobody did - except to deliver the bill. No meal replacements or comps offered. 4. There were nine people in the group and all were disappointed. Summary 1. Food was served cold. 2. Service was lousy at best. Took forever to get food. 3. Over-dressed salad and (served-cold) pasta. 4. No follow-up by server about food or quality. 5. No communication by management or staff. 6. Unfortunately my experience at Blacksteer was not positive, the wait staff was as good as one could expect under the circumstances but the restaurant leaves much to be desired. i reserved a table for my wife and myself for Valentines dinner. We were both shocked to find out the special menu included one steak! This is ridiculous for a "steak house". We both settled on an expensive meat stroganoff dish that was inedible and had to be returned. The staff was gracious and my substitute dish was not much better. This was our first visit to this new Blacksteer. We had a great time, rocking busy on a Friday night but I had just stepped off a plane and was rather hangry. YELP Short Answer: Yes visit, excellent location, parking, space, menu, vibe, and staff but just falling short in a few places. Location: Excellent, located in large retail center, tons of parking. Buildout: Really well done taking element of past restaurant and making it their own. Nothing fancy but comfortable and fun. Menu: Amazing steakhouse type choices all well explained. Food Prep: Very nice indeed, the prep and plating looked professional and all done with purpose, meaning chef or cooks take pride in what they are sending out. Food Quality: Well, not sure but on this night the food had no taste, no I did not have Covid, but fried chicken special tasted like zero spices in coating yet chicken interior was cooked perfect, the sprinkled a little salt on the finished pieces but that does not make for good chicken as it is all about the batter coating. Total lack to spices and maybe by design, but if someone was looking out for their sodium intake, they would have ordered a salad. Chili was ok, just ok. I maybe order fried chicken once a year so disappointed, ate one piece of the four and left the rest. Maybe their batter secret recipe got screwed up that night and I totally would have sent it back but... Waitstaff: First off a friend who works there part-time is a pro and most of the staff seems to be professional and busy running around trying to get out of there to enjoy their Friday night. Our waiter however was a dud, 15 minutes to take our order after we got menus, food was sitting cooked for 10 minutes, never checked in, then at least 10 minutes to get our bill. Went from Hangry to angry and so avoidable. We watched our friend (R) being super-server to his tables while we were like WTF is up with our guy. Libations: Looked great but we did not order drinks, but bar area looked like fun. Value: Overall a great value but you will need to find what is cooked to your liking. Owner or GM, I believe, was hands on and it was apparent she did care about their brand but thanked us for coming in, did not ask how it was but it was late so I understand. First timer, party of two. I ordered the filet mignon. You're allowed a sauce; bernaise was my choice. One look at the sauce and I knew I couldn't take this place seriously. The sauce was watery thin, had broken and developed a skin and had been applied directly to the meat. If there is a next time I wouid order the sauce on the side. Otherwise the filet was cooked perfectly and very tender as to be expected. The vegetable side dish amounted to 3 medium broccoli florets and a small amount of garlic fries. Most bizarre experience dining I think I've ever had. Our server was excellent (minus not telling us why it was taking so long). The food was mostly wonderful. My son's burger was cold by the time it was served, but the other dishes were great. Even the salads took an hour to come out. We were offered two free desserts for our table of 6. Our reservation was at 7:30 and we didn't leave until 9:30. Thankfully we enjoyed catching up with family so we didn't complain. We didn't send the burger back because he was so hungry he just needed to eat. I'd highly suggest management come to the table in those situations and explain the delay. If we knew they are having issues we would have paid for the appetizer and drinks and went some where else. I rarely leave reviews when I have a complaint, but I think it's time. This restaurant has gone down in quality consistently over the past two years. The only reason I am giving it a star is because there is no option for zero, and we got there early enough to sit in the room with the fireplace. To start, we had bread plates in front of us but no bread was ever given to us. My fiance asked for extra veg and only received four Brussels sprouts total, including the "extra." Since we couldn't see them when the plate was put in front of him, the waiter, without making eye contact, stated they were underneath the steak. Four tiny, puny, soggy sprouts. The steak was overcooked for both of us. Every time the waiter came by our table, he wouldn't look us in the eye. It was almost like he was ashamed to serve us what he did. He KNEW this wasn't worth it. The prices have gone up considerably with less included, for lower quality meat. When they opened a few years ago, the quality was way better. This wasnt an off day for the chef. This was someone who didn't give one care about what was being put out. I will not be going there again. The only reason we went was because we had been given a gift card. Lesson learned. read more

We've eaten here for years. We just tried their Wednesday special: a three course meal featuring 10 ounce prime rib, either a house salad or Caesar salad (we picked Caesar), and a desert. It was spectacular! Perfectly roasted prime rib, great cut, super soft and flavorful!! Salad was small but delicious, crispy lettuce and not overly heavy on the dressing. The desert was the perfect size for one. Pumpkin waffle served warm with whipped cream, maple syrup, and strawberry slices. Delectable! I had a friend back in town who'd never been to the Black Steer since it changed hands from Johnny Carino's. We had Happy Hour in the bar. She started out with an IPA and I had a cabernet. The HH menu is fairly extensive so she had the shrimp tacos (3) and I had the prime rib sliders (3). More than enough food for dinner we each took one of our prizes home. The tacos were loaded with fried shrimp and not overpowered by the addition of coleslaw and aoili. My sliders were so tender with bold flavor, topped with grilled onions and served with au jus. I asked for a side of horseradish sauce which made them just right in my opinion. Our bartender/server was excellent, attentive, personable but not hovering which I like. It was different inside of course from our old Johnny Carinos. Darker walls but still cozy and comfortable, more of a date night steak house decor I suppose but nice ambiance even for two friends on a happy hour mission. read more

We made reservations here a week prior to tonight 12/20 for 7:00 pm. There were 10 of us for dinner. We were early and seated right away. Our order was taken at 7:20. We had water and drinks and one appetizer before dinner. At 8:30 I had to walk up and ask where our food was as we had been waiting for an hour and 10 minutes with no server showing up at the table to update us. a server said as she pointed to a large group "we have a large group and we are short staffed" she said she would send our server to the table. He apologized for the wait and walked away. At 8:50 our food started arriving. Some was cold and the baked potato was so overcooked that we could not eat it. This is the worst service and food we have had and even had to pay a "Gratuity" for a party of 10 When we had to see where our food was. Let's start with the positives: The customer service was great. Everyone was super nice. They sent some drinks out late (an ongoing theme at this place) but they comped them. They also comped some potatoes as they were originally served wrong. The ambience is nice, the place is clean, the location is good, and the cocktails were delightful. Now with the negative: Our reservation was at 7, we didn't walk out till 9. Maybe 20 minutes of that was spent eating. I did not listen to people's reviews when they said the food was slow and I should have. If you are reading this, take good company cause you will be waiting for 2-3 hours. The bread was an extra price. If Texas Roadhouse can provide free rolls I think a place that charges at least $30 a plate can. They were out of Ribeye. They sat us at the wrong table, then switched us with another group that had already sat down, poured water, and touched all the table settings. They gave us new tableware, again, customer service was not the problem. The mac'n'cheese was bland. Literally just noodles, butter, and bread crumbs. It was the only thing that came out hot as well. Like burn your mouth so bad you have to spit it out hot. But it was between that or the rest of the lukewarm food. The filet was cooked as asked, but tasted old. I don't know if it was the lack of seasoning or the way they cooked it, but I could probably get a steak from Dollar General and make it taste better. Maybe if the food was worth the wait and price this review would be better, but it wasn't. They had a couple big groups in there but overall the restaurant was rather empty and honestly that makes sense. All reviews prior to August 2025 should be discounted. Apparently, Blacksteer is now under new ownership and management. With the reopening, the food and service has improved dramatically. Recently, my wife and I went there on our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The menu has been upgraded and everything we had was excellent. Prices were reasonable for a steakhouse. I was told by a server that they have a brand new chef that has transformed the restaurant. Highly recommended! read more

This place really has potential to be decent. Unfortunately they really missed the mark today for a Sunday dinner.. I won't account for the rest of my table because I can only speak from personal experience. But the way my issue was handled wasn't really up to par. I originally had asked if it was possible to cook a steak black and blue, my server notified me that they most likely wouldn't be able to because of their equipment, which was understandable. So I had ordered a Ribeye medium rare. As my picture shows (which was right after I had received my steak), my steak was medium well going to a well done. I've worked in restaurants (specifically steakhouses) for years, so I know mistakes happen. I brought this to my server's attention before he had left the table, yet a manager had never come over to talk to our group until the end of the night after us making multiple comments. In the end, the manager had seemed apologetic but only took off $8 of my $100 bill which around half of it was the steak I had ordered. First of all, the service was amazing! Derek was the NICEST waiter, and ensured we were cared for the entire evening. He answered all our questions and was just an extremely sweet guy. The food was really good! From the onion strings all the way to dessert (brownie with ice cream). I ordered the Prime Rib Po boy sandwich, the only negative I had with mine was the bread was slightly too dry. The meat had great flavor though, and the fries were tasty too! My husband ordered a New York strip, it was cooked perfectly and had really good flavor. The ultimate show stopper was the Mac and cheese though! So good! Steak is great , but they never cook it correctly the first time . Staff seems like they're super confused and lost .. our server was nice but just took forever with not a lot of tables around .. I asked for a kids cup for my daughters water , and they found one , I opened the lid to add ice , and they just emptied a cup with crayons in it and put water in that , so there were chunks of crayon in my daughters water cup served to her .. so sad because this place use to be pretty awesome read more
