Going down Clement street in San Francisco it changes once you go past Park Presidio Blvd. You will notice there are less stores and restaurants than the first mile of Clement street. You will also find a bakery on 15th Avenue and Clement which is always crowded and cramped with people when I go at anytime of the weekday and weekend to get some pastries . It has Asian inspired bake goods along with hot and cold drinks. You will find bake goods such as Cherry almond cake, Mt. Tam Basque Cheesecake and purple sweet potato Not-Ube Tart. You will see on the menu made to order sandwiches like these egg salad bunwich and Biscuit Smash. You will also find the Shrimpwich and Taiwanese-style fried chicken cutlet sandwich. It's called the Breadbelly in the Richmond District of San Francisco. On a Spring stroll in search of matcha on a rainy day in SF , Don Juan de la Matcha found some warm matcha. I came to Breadbelly for the green items like the Kaya toast and Matcha. I decided to get the Matcha cappuccino which was smooth warm and not too sweet. Although it was only 8 ounces every drop was strong and packed a punch ( not the viral monkey). I then had the Kaya toast and it was a bit sweet and not too flakey like some in SF. The green Pandan jam on the Kaya toast was a bit savory but delicious . There are few canary yellow tables to sit inside and a lot more seating outside. Overall a good place to grab and pair a green dessert and a green drink. Go on a Spring stroll past by the Park Presidio green "trees" in San Francisco where the weather can easily change in one day and go from 50 to 70 "degrees" you also can grab a sandwich like the fried chicken cutlet which the style of "Taiwanese"and the matcha which is done in the style of the "Japanese " Come for a "break" at Breadbelly where they "bake "the Kumquat Twice-Baked Croissant and other baked goods like some in SF which "flake"and make it a meal and try their egg salad bunwich , matcha cappuccino, and cherry almond "cake"

The food is very good and fresh. The service is generally minimal and nice. The ambiance is nice but small, mostly outdoor seating. My only gripe is this place is way too expensive. I usually get a pastry or the Kaya toast. It's well over $10 for a location that only has outdoor seating and they ask for a tip. The wait is also extremely long. Like way too long and it doesn't matter the day. I was there today on a Thursday morning and it took like 15 mins. Part of the reason is they wait for many orders to be done before they get yours, like a batching system. The Kaya toast while good is not a normal thing for the length of time. If you're gonna be expensive, be fast. The Kaya wasn't made right now and the bread was sliced and toasted. The expensive price structure is a shared sentiment amongst many people I've talked to.

Breadbelly is a pretty good bakery in the Inner Richmond in San Francisco, and one of the best parts is that there is hardly a line. In a city where many bakeries have people waiting down the block, that alone is refreshing. The kaya toast was the standout. The balance of sweet coconut jam, butter, and crisp toast was excellent and easily the highlight of the visit. The breakfast sandwich was just alright. It was solid but did not quite reach the same level as the kaya toast. The coffee was good and paired well with the food. Overall, it is a nice neighborhood bakery. I would definitely come back if I were in the area and did not feel like waiting in line at one of the more popular bakeries around the city.

I'm so happy I finally got to try Breadbelly over the weekend! It's a famous Asian bakery that has two locations in the Richmond and Dogpatch. I went to the Richmond location around 10am on Sunday, and there was surprisingly no line (one started as we were ordering, but it seemed to move relatively quick). I ordered the Biscuit Smash, Kaya Bun, and Gyernbang. Biscuit Smash 5/5: Such a decadent savory sausage biscuit sandwich. My favorite part was the scallion omelette inside, and I also loved the flavor of the sausage. It was really filling too! Kaya Bun: 5/5: Honestly paired well with the savory biscuit smash and provided a nice cool sweet refreshing desert. The coconut cream on the inside was addicting. Gyernbang: 2/5: A cool concept for a savory egg desert, but I felt that it wasn't as flavorful as the other bites. I probably wouldn't get this one again. There was also a good amount of outdoor seating, so perfect when the weather is good to enjoy a pastry and coffee outside!

stumbled apon this place while my fiance and i were heading to the beach and im so glad we did!! the biscuit smash is to die for, i basically ended up eating all of my mans', but he ended up loving the breakfast sandwich more anyway! wish we would have gotten the kaya toast, but we definitely plan to be back

Food: - Ham and cheese croissant: my favorite of the pastries, it had a complementary mix of cheese and ham flavors, texture was light and crispy - Fortune danish: good mix of flavors - Kaya toast: Milk bread was delicious, kaya flavoring was surprisingly strong - Breakfast sandwich: alright Service/ Ambiance: - A couple seats inside, but the majority is outside - Service is slow and inefficient so be prepared to wait and keep an ear out for your order

I saw the new chicken cutlet sandwich on Instagram and had to try it! The Taiwanese style chicken cutlet was fried to perfection. It was moist, crispy, and had that Taiwanese flavor. The pickled veggies gave it some nice acidity and spiciness. So delicious! Also got the hot beefwich again since it was so good last time. Any sandwich on their milk bread is amazing.

After hearing so many of my friends rave about Bread Belly I knew I had to come here and see what it's about. HO LY CRAP This place has THE best food and I understand why it was so crowded! So worth the wait. We came near the tail end of the day (~12 pm) and so a lot of stuff was gone already, including a lot of things I wanted to try. However, we did end up getting the Kaya Toast, the biscuit smash, and the veggie breakfast sandwich (forgot the name but it had ponzu and veggie tempura in it) and our minds were BLOWNNNNNN The sandwich was so refreshing and flavorful and every bite was so crisp and crunchy. The kaya toast was awesome (especially so because I had just come back from Singapore and this was BETTER THAN SINGAPORE KAYA TOAST). I didn't try the biscuit smash because it had meat in it but IT LOOKED DOPE TOO I will definitely be coming back as fast as I can and this time much earlier so I can try all of the other things that were sold out. Non-food things: Street Parking is pretty ample, seating is a bit tight (3 tables inside and a lot more seating outside) but you may be able to find a spot. We got our drinks pretty quickly and it took some time to get our food because it was so busy (and also the pork sausage in the biscuit smash took some time to make) but we didn't mind because it was really fun to just sit and people watch. When (not if) I come again, I'll probably order things online in advance and then find some place to sit when I get there.

It's tough to stand out as a cafe in SF, but Breadbelly's food offerings set them apart. The coffee and matcha were fine. Karl's cappuccino tasted like the earl grey and espresso were competing rather than complementing each other. Despite a consistent line, service moves fairly quickly, though seating is very limited. My favorite was the plum twice-baked croissant (so good). I'd probably come back to try another pastry or sandwich.

came on a saturday around 1pm to a long line, waited around 10 mins. lots of outdoor seating but was very packed, hard to find seats. orders were taken at the register and with a worker by the door. clemen was super kind and welcoming, they helped make such a good first impression of this spot! breakfast sandwich (8/10). the pandesal bun got me so excited, and was surprised it was so fluffy and soft! ham, cheese, and egg were standard, no comments. the kale was a fun choice but couldn't taste the sweet & sourness. got chili paste on the side (fearing it would be too spicy) but i think it would be better pre-added. it wasn't too spicy and added a contrast of sourness and spice to the sandwich. iced matcha cappuccino (6/10). very matcha-heavy (a tad too bitter for me) and super green, i'm glad they didn't skimp on matcha. not as sweet and creamy as i wanted; if it were i think it would balance the matcha more for me. i would definitely come back, the vibes are cute and service was great! i like how many sandwich options they had and am interested in trying the other ones. i also had a sip of my friend's hojicha creamsicle and think it's MUCH more up my alley with the cream top and touch of orange.

Finally got to checked out Breadbelly. This place is hyped for a reason. A fun twist on classic breakfast items. Expect a line, especially on weekends, and limited seating (mostly outdoor). What I ordered: * Breakfast sandwich 5/5- YUM. Would comeback just for this. Very unique flavor! * Kaya toast 2/5- the item I was most excited for, was my least favorite. Not for me. * Kaya bun 4/5- I much preferred this to the toast! * Black sesame cappuccino 2/5- Too strong of a flavor for me. Great casual brunch spot if you're out in the Richmond District & want something different. I would come back for the breakfast sandwich and to try a few other items.

Such a yummy breakfast spot! Tried two of their breakfast sandos and both were delicious! Love the flavors and different textures-- have never had a breakfast sandwich like theirs before!! Everyone was very nice and helpful, their seating area is just pretty small but lots of spots outside if the weather is nice! Will be back again!

    Ask the Community - Breadbelly

    Is there seating?

Yes, a few indoors and in a parklet.

Is it crowded on the weekend?

Sometimes, yes. But you can order online.

    What GF options are there?

They have some GF cookie options -- the buckwheat chocolate cookie is incredible

Is the gelatin in the kaya bun pork?

No is just like matcha jelly

Why are they always closed (Saturday at noon)?

10-2PM they are open at 12 Noon Saturdays

What is the best time to go during the weekends before things start getting sold out?

I would def say before 12:30! You want to miss the lunch time rush or post church rush! I went around 10ish and there were only a few people there :)

Why is it called "not ube tart"?

Ube is purple yam in Filipino. The 'not ube' tart is made from sweet potato which is not the same as a yam. While we're at it, taro is totally different from purple yam or sweet potato.

It is tucked away and a bit inconspicuous, so be sure to keep an eye out if you decide to come over here. Since it is near the park, parking is difficult, and taking Muni would be best. The store itself is small, with two tightly packed tables for seating, and the order counter is surrounded by delicious-looking pastries, giving it a homey vibe. I went in the afternoon on a weekend, and there was no line at the time. I really needed a caffeine boost, saw this place on Yelp, and decided to try it out. I try my best to order coffees/drinks that are unique to the place so I can try their signatures and form my best judgment. I decided to order the Thai Caffe Banana Latte and saw that it was labeled as blended with bananas. When I went up to the counter, I asked about the consistency of the latte to ensure it was not a creamy blended drink (like a smoothie) but still liquid, like a typical latte. I am unsure if my question was confusing, but it seemed to bother the person serving me that I was asking questions, and they seemed to be getting impatient with me. When they rang me up, I paid, but I forgot to ask for almond milk since I felt rushed while ordering (even though no one else was in the store at the time). I asked if I could still add it in and pay the upcharge or separate fee. They ended up telling me to just tip them the extra $1 in cash or add it to the Square payment as a tip (I gave $2 in cash because I felt bad for inconveniencing them). When I got the drink, the coffee was strong, bold, and not as sweet as I thought it was going to be (which was fine!). Since the original coffee without banana says it has condensed milk, I thought it was going to have more of that sweet note with the banana, but I could be incorrect in assuming it would be sweeter. That said, the banana itself was mashed into the drink, and unfortunately, I did not taste it very much, though I did sip up some banana pieces. Based on the drinks and the service, perhaps this place just is not for me, but I would not tell you to avoid it either. I would recommend trying it yourself to formulate your own thoughts, since maybe my experience was a one-off and the drink I got was not the one that best represents this cafe!

Lovingly, they arranged for us to meet up for dinner Friday night. We had discussed with my cousins before visiting them that my wife wanted to check out two renowned bakeries in the Bay Area, Tartine and Arizmendi. My cousin and her husband graciously and kindly offered to drive us around downtown San Francisco Saturday morning to visit these bakeries and we had such a great time on our personalized Bay Area foodie tour narrated by my well-informed cousin-in-law (CIL). Our first stop on this belly stuffing foodie tour was Tartine, which served one of the yummiest almond croissants I've ever eaten. That pastry alone warrants a visit to this highly rated and highly reviewed bakery. Since our CIL was in the know about The City's downtown eateries and bakeries, he recommended that we start out early to visit Tartine because he said that lines to these places could get crazy long. Thankfully for us, we got to Tartine before it opened and were second in line to enter. Tartine is a well chronicled bakery with locations around the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seoul, Korea. The location we visited is on Guerrero and 18th streets in the Mission District and it's across from Pay And Save Grocery. Parking might be challenging with street and metered parking. As soon as you enter the bakery, there's a hipster and local mom and pop business vibe. You're greeted by glass cases displaying beautiful cakes, pastries, breads, loaves, scones, and cookies. There are stool seats and elevated chairs where you can eat on planks of wood either facing the steady flow of customers or looking outside. I liked how there were paintings hanging from what appeared to be from local artists. The staff were friendly and took care of us pretty quickly. Tartine was our first stop in what would be a fun foodie adventure. Since I always start my day with a cup of coffee, I ordered caramel cappuccino. The foam on top had a beautifully designed heart from the barista, but I like my coffee sweet and after my first sip, I knew I had to add some type of sweetener. I used a lot of their complimentary honey to make it sweeter. My wife, who works in the baking industry, had placed Tartine on her list of places she wanted to visit to experience their scones and pastries. If my wife knew about this bakery, then I knew that I'd be indulging in baked goods of the highest caliber. Of course I let my wife pick what she thought were the best items, but I asked the customer who was the first person in line what Tartine was known for and she said their almond croissants, so when it was our turn to make our selections, I asked for Tartine's Frangipane Croissant, which has almond-cream filling and brandy. Brandy?!!?? Honestly, I don't remember tasting any brandy, but what I do remember was flakiness of the croissant, the thick cut almonds on top, the heartiness of the croissant, and the generous amount of almond-cream filling. It was a beautiful looking pastry and the taste was even better. Seriously, one of the most memorable croissants I've ever eaten. My family and I are blessed to have family willing to take time out of their morning to take us on a guided foodie tour to some iconic bakeries and local eateries. Our first bakery stop was Tartine and after eating that delectable almond croissant, the other bakeries would be hard pressed to beat them.

We all like a Cinderella story whether it's the Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo this last…read moreweekend ( hats off) and watching Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy drafted last and help the 49ers win the NFC Championship. On the May Fourth be with you today Star Wars movie has Cinderella undertones. Growing up the Piroshki was all around the corner liquor stores in San Francisco especially in the Mission District ( a whole different Cinderella story). The piroshki would be a fast microwaved treat to have during lunch and after school. Over the years I have been very selective when picking up a piroshki from a corner store because they can be very doughy. There is one bakery in San Francisco which has been making a variety of piroshkis for over 70 years. This Russian bakery has both the savory and the sweet . It's located on Balboa street and it's called Cinderella. On a Spring stroll I landed at Cinderella. Inside you can see and smell the delicious bake goods which can be sweet and some salty like some in SF. On the sweet side I enjoy their honey cake but no donuts . On the savory side it's the piroshkis. My favorite is the beef and cheddar piroshki. It wasn't too cheesy like some in SF but the beef was tender and it almost tastes like a smashed burger ( not to be confused with smash burger) all in a soft bun. The are other interesting items on the menu like Pelmeni which are Russian dumplings and Siberian Pie. You can wash it all down with a Matcha Latte ( for Don Juan de la Matcha) or the Kompot drink. There is a planned expansion to the Mission District in with a location at 2937 24th street. This will be a good Cinderella story for all of San Francisco. Go to a place which has a good piroshki "supply" these piroshki buns get baked and some they do "fry" they have other baked goods and food you can "try" like their Grilled Salmon salad and the Cherry Vareniki the Russian Dumpling which has sour cream & sour cherries or the "Siberian Pie" So go on a stroll to "Cinderella" which is the place when it comes to piroshki and baked goods because they got "hella" tasty variations like the Blinchiki with Caviar with more than a bump and you also have one made with it "Nutella" and this bakery sings to me like a Broadway " A capella"
