When it comes to food, I can be rather picky which makes me a tough critic. So I don't easily give five star ratings to restaurants especially. But my oh my does Bread Zeppelin deserve the full five stars. The ingredients are premium quality, and the key of course is the bread. A perfectly flaky yet chewy baguette is hollowed out and serves as a tasty shell to enclose one of the endless salad options. I've always loved to spice up my salads. Just greens never does it for me. I like variety of flavors and textures. Salty. Sweet. Crunchy. Chewy. Fortunately for me the options are endless at Bread Zeppelin. Everything from beets to cherry tomatoes to dried cranberries to glazed walnuts, and everything in between. Every type of protein you could imagine, with at least 20 different veggies, fruits, and nuts. The dressings are also quite exquisite, and there's no shortage of options there either. The staff is very friendly and helpful, offering their suggestions of what dressings go best with a particular salad. Bread Zeppelin is perfect for what I look for when I eat out, tasty food with a variety of flavors that is also healthy. This place has put eating salads in an entirely new perspective for me. I was in the mood for a salad and had heard good things about this place so I stopped in for a late lunch. I passed on the bread and opted for just a salad. They have LOTS of choices to select from or you can just make up your own and select your ingredients. The first person put all the stuff for my salad in a clear plastic bowl and passed it down the line where the second person then chops it up really fine and then adds dressing and mixes it all up and places it back in the salad bowl. Interesting concept. I ordered the cobb salad which was good but not $12 good. I thought it was more in line with a $9 salad. I got the Plymouth Rock without the blue cheese and they allowed me to substitute it out with anything else. The CRUNCHY hollowed out bread that your salad can come in is to die for! So perfectly toasted! Only reason they are getting 4 stars is because the employees are all that friendly. The person who checked me out seemed like they did not want to be at work today. Absolutely addicted to this place! A Zeppelin is basically salad stuffed inside a delicious, crunchy piece of French bread. They also have salad bowls if you're not feeling the bread. You can choose to either make your own salad or Zeppelin or choose one of the ones on the menu. I normally make my own because I'm picky about what's in my salad and it's also cheaper. If you want meat in your salad, I recommend choosing the ones on the menu cause it's a better value. For zeppelins, you get to pick 4 additional ingredients to your greens and for bowls, you get to pick 6. Then the employees chop everything up in front of you. Pick a dressing and they ask you to tell them how much to put on your salad. They stuff it inside the French bread and there you go! I always get the insides on the side cause I like to eat it with butter once I get home. This place gets pretty packed during lunch hours but their system is pretty efficient so you don't have to wait long. Definitely recommend trying this place!! read more

So one of my most favorite salad places of all time is the Chop't chain in DC and New York. That place had the same concept as Bread Zeppelin. You can make your own salads or you can choose from their own creations. My favorite part about these two places is how they chop up your salad! The difference about this place is that they have their "signature bread" that the salad gets stuffed in. Kind of like a sandwich. My friend and I got salad bowls instead. I got the Athenian salad with extra black olives and avocado w/ champagne vinaigrette. I thought the salad was good, but the price became pretty high with my add ins. I didn't know that asking for black olives would be an extra add in for $1. Later on, I got very sick and nauseous... It might have been because of the salad because I didn't have anything to eat before that salad and I was fine beforehand. I tried this for the first time and i tried the signature zeppelin instead of a salad bowl just so I know what it is and it amazed me! They make the bread from the scratch and have all kinds of veggie options (I'm a veggie :p ) and all kinds of meat, i assume! They mince the veggies you choose and stuff these veggies in these freshly baked breads by taking out the center portion of the bread. This place is AWESOME!! Ate here for the first time today and even tho the place was packed (midday on a Tuesday), we didn't have to wait long before ordering. The manager (Job) has trained a stellar crew - the most polite, friendly, professional people we've ever experienced. The bread was freshly toasted, the salad was made to order right in front of our eyes. I asked what they did with the insides of the bread and was politely told by the same manager that they use it to make their delicious croutons and bread pudding. Bread pudding, you say? Hook us up with one of those - which my 17 year old daughter said tasted like the holidays! We ordered ours inside the bread (Zepplin style) - and highly recommend the Cobb and Lone Star. Both were delish! (You can order as a salad only and it will come in a bowl). I truly appreciate that I wasn't given extra stuff that would end up in the garbage - like tray liners or bags. I took a long time to try this place because I thought, "okay, salad in bread? Big whoop." I'm glad I finally tried it. The bread is perfect. I don't enjoy breads that are too hard or chewy, but this bread is this magical perfect amount of everything you could hope for. The salads look pretty good, too. I like that they mince everything together. The broccoli cheddar soup wasn't my favorite and a bit too salty, but I enjoyed it enough to eat the entire serving. They also have chocolate chip cookies at the register which is always a bonus in my book! read more

Love this place and wish I had one closer to me! Their broccoli cheddar soup is among the best broccoli cheddar soup I've ever had. If there's a flaw at Bread Zeppelins...it's only that there are so many choices...you might get a little too crazy with the mixing and matching of ingredients. I've never done a Zeppelin...I always do a salad when I go here. I love that they take the ingredients and chop them up in front of you...so everything gets really well tossed. Because of the crazy number of choices, I'd recommend new customers stick to the recommended combinations before venturing out on their own. I'm not sure that I'd recommend getting a zeppelin if you came here...because it's just going to be a salad stuffed into the bread. That's not a sub sandwich even though it deceptively looks like one... Also you need to watch them when they add the dressing. I wasn't warned on my first visit and they ended up putting too much dressing on my salad because I guess I was supposed to say "when" and I didn't realize that. It's hard for me to tell how much dressing is the right amount...when they're squirting it out of the bottle the way they do. So now I just ask for the "normal amount" and that's been working out okay for me. If you're counting calories..it would be impossible to know how much they're putting on there...so I'd forget about that one... The ingredients look like they're all fresh and colorful, you can even mix and match what kinds of lettuce they use. Finding the right dressing to match your ingredients is a challenge. Sometimes you get a salad making expert and they'll make recommendations...sometimes you get a bored and apathetic high school kid. That can make it tough. Very cool concept though, I can see this taking off. Few kinks to work out but I definitely recommend that you check it out on your lunch break sometime. It's always packed and it does take awhile per person, so budget your time accordingly. Bread Zeppelin is a classic case of taking an innovative food concept and delivering. Basically, they fashion salads, chop them up, and then stuff them into a hollowed out bread loaf, effectively creating a salad sandwich. The bread is still warm by the time they give it to you, and since the bread is not sliced longitudinally, nothing falls out of the sandwich, so it is a pretty mess-fee eating experience. Today, I tried the Washington State zeppelin (grilled chicken, apples, beets, etc.) with the white balsamic. Overall, I thought it was pretty decent, though I thought the beets detracted from the cohesion of the sandwich. I also should have added more balsamic sauce. Had an awful experience on 9/20. It had been a long day and I drove all the way from Frisco because I really wanted a zeppelin. The guy prepping the salads that night was utterly rude and immature. Due to the loud music and echoing in this place, I have a hard time hearing anyone here. I asked for a zeppelin and a bowl. He made two bowls and I didn't catch the mistake until one of the salads was being chopped. I kindly said that I wanted a zeppelin not a bowl. He stopped dead in his tracks, rolled his eyes, and blurted the rudest "okay". He remakes the salad as a zeppelin, gives it to the chopping person, and goes in the back and suddenly there's all this loud commotion in the back. I couldn't believe this was happening and I wanted so badly to walk out of the restaurant. I'm not at all a service snob but I've never felt so disrespected. I'd probably rate this as the worst service at a food establishment EVER. I pity this employee... he obviously has a really bad attitude and can't keep his cool. He really ruined any chance of me ever coming back to any Bread Zeppelin. Great place and definitely a breath of fresh air- unique concept and fresh ingredients make Bread Zeppelin work well. I've gotten the southwest and lone star zeppelin and both were fantastic- the avocado ranch and chipotle ranch were dressings I tried and were full of flavor. Meh, unimpressed. First timer, got the Washington Apple salad and added some egg and avocado - no idea where they ended up in my salad. I saw the guy put them on there - but they do this manic chopping process to you r salad that basically makes all the toppings unrecognizable. I couldn't tell chicken from cheese in the bowl of green mush they gave me. Great concept, just poorly executed. I probably won't come back.
