Had goat cheese pastry with side salad for appetizer. This was so good I'm wishing I had more right now. Food was spot on. Service was friendly. Will return. read more

I'll put it simply Our first visit to this establishment was quite pleasant. The restaurants interior is warm and cozy, with outside seating and a well stocked bar. Service was decent and pleasant. Then came the food. Steak tartare, oysters and Beef Bourguinon. The only complaint the steak tartare, no t the best a lil bland. But otherwise everything else was tasty. Now the second visit as a completely different story. We observed a lobster salad, off menu and asked if we could have one. Well, it looked a lot better than what it was. It was totally bland and certainly not a pound and a half of lobster meat. It was truly disappointing. We ordered some oysters which were fresh and tasty but that lobster salad was definitely lacking. All in all the first visit hands down was truly a nice affair but our second visit was disappointing. For me consistency is key , shouldn't be hit and miss read more

For starters the food here is excellent and there is no doubt about that. However, when it takes a full hour just to get drinks, that's a bit of a problem. We went as a party of four and got seated right away but didn't get to place any food orders until an hour and a half in. We eventually were able to order appetizers and got them an hour later. We still were not able to place orders for. entrees at this time. Because we waited so long, we decided to leave after getting the appetizers. The staff is kind, however, it seemed that there was a management issue. When we finally were able to get someone to take drink orders, the owner came out of the kitchen at the time and told the server not to take our orders or any others. We still aren't totally sure what was going on but something was clearly up. The weirdest part about this all was that the restaurant's indoor seating was half empty so it didn't seem to be an issue with being crazy busy but they seemed a bit understaffed. It seems like a nice place with good food but I don't think we'll be going back due to the very slow service and rude encounters with the owner. read more

My wife and I went here for her birthday celebration, and we love French restaurants. From the outset of the experience regarding the food and drinks, it is clear that Brasserie D is overpriced and underdelivers with taste. I ordered an old fashioned that came to the table red, and when I questioned the look the waiter assured me it was an old fashioned. Upon tasting it, it had the correct ingredients, but so little bourbon that the color and balance of the drink was off. Then, for the entrees, we both ordered the filet mignon au poivre. The steak was fine, as were the vegetables, but not worth $44 by any stretch. On top of that, the "frites" were clearly frozen rather than freshly made. The waiter was nice, and we enjoyed the ambiance. But we were blown away by the gap in quality of the food and its cost. When you visit French restaurants you expect a certain tier of cuisine that Brasserie seems to be emulating on the surface but swinging and missing on in reality. Not worth the visit unfortunately. Try elsewhere and you'll undoubtedly be more satisfied. read more

Brasserie D - The "old fashioned" with an extremely minimal amount of bourbon resulting in its reddish color. - French Near Me - Nyack, New York

Brasserie D is a classic French brasserie. Classic brasserie dishes. Service was excellent. Ambience really brings you to Bel epoque Paris. Food wise, flavors are muted. I observed the same problem with many French-Canadian restaurants. Just amp up the flavors a little bit, more tarragon, more garlic, just more and it will fulfill its potential. read more

Je ne sais pas. Well not even that and prob won't be returning. Still, it was nice to find a French restaurant in these parts, especially on the main Nyack drag. A fun novelty. First, the food. Expensive but to be fair the menu consisted of actual French dishes similar to what you'd find at a local Paris brasserie. Foie Gras: I can't eat this but everyone else said it was "solidly mediocre." Steak Tartare: Boring. Flavorless. Small. Overpriced. Mussels: Nope. Too big and rubbery. Sauce was okay. But the server didn't even bring bread with it and had to ask for it. When they finally gave us some, it was three little slices of Wonderbreadish baguette delivered with no love for a table of four. French fries: Good. Hot and crispy which is all you really want. Sadly, I think, the highlight of the meal. Also, they did not serve with ketchup or mayonnaise and had to ask for those as well. Beef bourguignon: Weird. Because we split everything and I always serve myself last, I got one bite of this dish because there was literally one chunk of meat in it. The rest of it was egg noodles. It was good for what it was but geez what a ripoff. Ambiance: Saving grace. It's cute. The restaurant was completely empty when we came for lunch save one other table. Which obvi says something. But the decor was kitschy Parisian and well done. Service: As you may have garnered, service was really bad, especially considering this was an empty restaurant and not cheap. No one even came over to refill our water the whole time and I had to grab extra utensils from the next table to act as serving spoons. Idk how long this place has been in business but I assume it will be departing soon and I don't care enough to further look into either of these things. If you go, try brunch I think. read more

Every dish we tried showed real skill and attention to detail. The cuisine sets standards at Brasserie D. You'll appreciate the fresh approach and restrained salt use. The employees displayed honest warmth and frequent smiles. The restaurant delivers quality in all aspects. read more

Food is always fantastic, great ambience! The chef is always around and often comes over to say hello. Love this place!

I recently revisited Brasserie D with an old friend and his six-year-old progeny. We were warmly greeted by Chef Alain himself and promptly seated at my friend's favorite corner table. The word brasserie comes from the Middle French brasser, meaning "to brew," and Brasserie D honors that tradition with an extensive selection of beers, as well as a curated list of wines and spirits. The service, ambiance, and menu are quintessentially French, featuring classic dishes from across the regions--including specialties from Alsace. We began our feast with a rustic Pâté de Campagne, accompanied by cornichons, mixed greens, and toasted baguette. We also shared Hareng Pomme à l'Huile--smoked herring imported from France, served over warm, tender potatoes. The youngest in our party kept himself occupied with his Nintendo Switch and two generous helpings of Alain's world-class pommes frites. After careful deliberation, he declared them superior to McDonald's--a high honor in the world of six-year-olds. For mains, standouts included the hearty Beef Bourguignon, the tender Jarret d'Agneau (braised lamb shank with root vegetables in an orange-rosemary sauce), and the regional showstopper Choucroute Colmar--a robust dish of smoked meats and sausages served over sauerkraut. Brasserie D is a true gem--authentic, welcoming, and well worth the trip on Metro North for a meal that satisfies both palate and spirit. read more

My colleagues and I went to Brasserie D to enjoy adult company away from the classroom. It was such a great experience from start to finish. We ordered FRIAND DE CHÈVRE, PLATEAU DE CHARCUTERIE FOR TWO, Steak Tartare, Mussels Catalan, BEEF BOURGUIGNON, and CASSOULET DE CANARD. The food was classic, comforting, flavorful and satisfying. The atmosphere was true "French Bistro" and clients took time to enjoy each course and converse - no one was on their cell phone. Our desserts were magnifiques and the wines suggested by our server were fantastiques! I appreciate chef Alain coming to the tables to chat, he is delightful. We plan on returning to Brasserie D very soon. read more

Food is amazing, would definitely recommend to try the food. The staff are very nice and knowledgeable about their foods

For pricing themselves like a nice French restaurant, the food quality was shockingly bad. It was the worst dinner my husband and I have ever had out together. Margarine and not butter with their bread French onion soup was super bland and watery Filet mignon was the cheapest cut possible, tasted like ham, was overcooked... I feel robbed that we paid $44 for it. Scallop and shrimp risotto has a horrible taste and also super low quality. Service was good and ambiance was fine. Don't go here for good food. read more

Food, service, and ambiance were all fantastic! The herring appetizer was one of the best bites ever and the lamb entree was absolutely perfect! read more

Alain's most recent venture -Brasserie D is his best yet. Same great quality of Alain's Bistro and Alain's Petite Bistro just on a grand scale. The space is amazing featuring both indoor and outdoor dining with a huge bar area. Typical French brasserie fare but delivered in Alain's special way with great local ingredients. Always try his specials: last night we had the celery root soup served chilled was outstanding as well as the Jersey tomatoes with buratta. The servers are great, two sons are amongst the staff which you can tell are as passionate as their dad. There is a full bar as well as wine and beer. I urge you to try this place...a place to love. Great vibes here! read more

Just opened July 27, thought I'd try this new French brasserie, as I am a lover of authentic French food. Glad I had made a reservation as the place was jumping. Pretty decor with French paintings, an old fashioned tin ceiling, a long bar for many patrons, along with high top tables and alfresco dining as well. The entire frontage of the restaurant has accordion doors so it's completely open to the street, a nice touch, especially in today's world. My friend ordered the Asparagus Spinach Vichyssoise that was outstanding- very comparable to Sardi's. It was a very healthy sized serving. Then came the Steak Tartare & the Muscles Mariniere, without the cream as I'm dairy free. The Steak Tartare had a beautiful presentation with a quail egg on top. It came with frites and salad. It was good, but not great. It could have had more seasoning. It was quite bland. The Muscles Mariniere was fair at best. The problem is too frequently restaurants use pre-prepared garlic, instead of chopping it themselves. When they use preprepared, it has an aftertaste. It was also loaded with it- very overpowering & just not good. Usually this is served with a crusty baguette to dip in the broth, however the chef served frites with it instead. In this instance no loss as the last thing I wanted to do was have the broth. When presented it had tiny white pieces of something I could not identify, then realizing it was the garlic that was actually puréed and much too much of it. It gave the appearance of a lot of grated cheese on the food. I could not eat much of it. Great wine list. Enjoyed a nice Boudreaux. They serve brunch as well. Not sure I'd give it another try considering the garlic issue as I'm sure it's present in most dishes. read more

Brasserie D - Wine list - French Near Me - Nyack, New York

This is a restaurant that blatantly charged customers 3% for using a credit card. It is the NYS LAW that any such charge needed to be prominently posted at the premises so customers are aware of it and make the choice in payment. No signs were posted anywhere when we entered. Upon bill payment, we noticed the 3% on the bill. When questioned over the credit card charge, the moment respond was that they will be taken off if payment was made in cash. He was shown the NYS. Law. But this is what happened:1 1. He quietly sneaked out to post a make shift sign on the window outside, which was not there when we enrered 2. When we paid in cash, the 3% was not reimbursed! We will report it to NYS consumer's affair and the AG website to complain of the violation. read more

Very overpriced, subpar food. When we went, we were the only people in the entire restaurant.

i feel like nyack just has the best little hidden gem restaurants in the area. came here recently on a sunday for brunch/lunch and walking in -- wasn't sure what to expect. sure the reviews are good, but there weren't too many of them. and i'm not quite sure why! this place is great. it's a bit larger on the inside than you'd think, it goes pretty far back. we chose to sit in the back because it was a pretty warm day, and the front was a bit warmer than the back. they also have cute little seating outside, but i'd save that for less hot/humid days, personally. the service was cordial and we had no issues. the food was great -- we tried a few different things, including the baked brie (comes with a little salad), the steak frites with a nice bleu cheese sauce, moule frites (i can never resist moule frites), and the classic benny. all very good. the standout for me was the seafood over risotto -- comes with large shrimps and scallops, which were all PERFECTLY cooked. you can bet, i'll be back. you can park at the muni lot right across the street, since street parking is a little difficult in the area. free parking on sundays! read more

We had to come here because they have Steak Tartare!! It was lovely to sit outside with our dog and people watch. The food was good, French fries were still hot when they came to the table. The steak tartare was fresh and flavorful. Accommodating staff brought water to our dog, and petted her on the head. We will be back for more tartare. read more

Where else can you sit at a sidewalk table with the chef, before the rush, people watching. If you're looking for authentic, regional French food, and also a great burger or omelette, in a perfect little river town, Brasserie D is the place. I've also previously shared I try to support #local #business ‍ especially #authentic, #familyowned #restaurants, introducing myself to owners and staff whenever possible. Why? Because restaurants appreciate the business, thank you for the good comments, and may go above and beyond to make your visit a satisfying one. That's the experience we always get at @brasserie_d_nyack, where #owner, #chef Alain, and son Christophe personally greet and serve their guests. That Alain is from #Alsace and his menu reflects a remarkable #French diversity, offering dishes hard to find anywhere else except #france is a deal closer for a #foodie like me. If you #swipe the last pic it's of a half finished #bloodymary - I wasn't fast enough with the camera :-). Of course we also enjoyed what I think should be considered their famous #frisee #salad with the perfect #poachedeggs, #bakedbrie , #moules, #steak and #frites, all perfectly prepared and enjoyed for #brunch on a sunny Sunday or Friday night dinner. read more

this is the new Alain's! he moved down the street to a larger place. the main perk is that the new restaurant is huge with a giant bar. he can now accommodate many more tables and it is much easier to get a reservation. even better, he now offers cocktails because he has a full bar. much of the decor and the ambiance is the same as the old restaurant which is lovely. service is also faster than it previously was. a lot of the menu is the same and the food here is so so good. if you've never tried it, i would highly recommend stopping by! read more

My best friend from CA was visiting and I thought it would be nice to show her the village of Nyack (I am from Nanuet). With all the good places to eat around the area, she picked this place because she was aching for some foie gras, being it is "forbidden" in CA. Not only was her craving satisfied but we were impressed by the service, of course the food, (we also ordered the thin crust pizza and cheese board for apps). The owner, Alain was very accommodating with our request for a photo opt! :-) I would definitely come back and I highly recommend this place! read more

What a terrific little bistro tucked into the main st of Nyack .... Excellent service and really good food but best of all was the ambience , our waiter was relaxed and just created a vibe that felt like I could sit at the bar and watch the world go by while discussing the issues of the day in the glow of wine and food .... Couldn't be better ! read more

Delightful slice of France with charming decor. Delicious food, interesting specials. Attentive and knowledgeable servers. Highly recommend

We visited on the weekend after Thanksgiving, and things were pretty quiet. The service was excellent, and so was the food. We had an unusual appetizer special : It was a patty shaped fried thing that was made out of pigs feet and foie gras. Definitely not healthy but delicious. I had the duck which was super, and my wife had the salmon which she pronounced the best piece of salmon she's ever had. We finished off with tart Tatin for dessert, which was very good and an excellent cup of coffee. It was expensive, but worth it. Highly recommended. read more

This restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. We were off to a rough start when the staff sat our party at two separate tables, even though we had a reservation. The soups were mediocre and one was served cold. The mussels were sandy and the frites weren't anything special. The reason for the 3 stars is the owner came out and was super apologetic about everything. read more

My friends took me out for my birthday here the other night. Wow! Great food, ambiance and the service was on-point. All the bistro basics, done to perfection. The beef bourginon (sp?) was the best I've had in the NYC metro area, bar none. Great wine as well. We'll be back, fo' sho'! We dined here shortly after opening. It did not meet expectations. My Cod Champaign was so small I thought it was a Tapas dish. My wife ordered the half chicken and did actually get one. Fortunately for me, she let me fill my near-empty stomach with her leftovers. Unfortunately for her, her glass of red wine apparently sat in an opened bottle for too long and went vinegary. I chaulk this up to transition problems. Wine steward: please taste your opened wine before serving. read more

The owner is very friendly and interesting. The food was nothing less than stellar. I had lamb chops cooked to perfection with a sauce you wish you knew how to make. Green beans perfect. Scallop potatoes, delish. There was also this meat wrapped in Filo dough that was also delicious. Even their cappuccinos were extra delicious. The two people I was with raved about the escargot, pate, and roasted chicken. Service was excellent. Very sweet and upbeat server. She was all smiles. I can't wait to go back! It's also cute inside with 1/2 tables 1/2 booth. Unfortunately the only thing I would change is to have fabric on the seats, not Faux leather. It doesn't breathe. But that's 95% of restaurants, so I guess it's just my own little pet peeve. They also have a nice long bar if you want to sit and have a drink or eat there. All in all I would give more than 5 stars if I could. read more
