Brails is dope! We came on a busy Sunday morning during brunch rush hour. Service was reasonably prompt and friendly despite the hustle and bustle. Prices are reasonable, and along with the classic brunch items there are a handful of creative and tasty Asian-fusion dishes! The food is simple, unpretentious, but very well executed with very obvious attention to detail. Hash browns are shatteringly crispy on the outside and fluffy and moist on the inside. I was stoked to see Loco Moco on the menu! I asked for sautéed onions to be added (highly recommended) and it was absolutely perfect. The brown gravy was scrumptious and I could not have been more thrilled. The coffee was delicious; great flavor black. The service seemed to be done with a team approach and all three of our servers were personable, efficient, and attentive. During our most recent visit, I ordered an omelet and it was delicious! Their Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite things to order as well. The hollandaise sauce isn't THE BEST I've ever had, but it's good and I keep reordering it! I mean this in the most sincerest and respectful way, this is not a place to have your mind blown. This a place where you go when you're in the mood for a good filling breakfast and you don't want to spend a whole lot of money for it. If you go there with this understanding, you'll be very happy. If you're considering going for the first time, just go for it! You need to give them a chance. I've never been disappointed here. At the time of this review, you are able to dine in. You must have your entire party at the location in order to get on the waitlist, so you can't call ahead or get there early to "save a spot" for your group. I can't remember if Brail's mentions this, but most places ask you to limit your visit to no more than 90 minutes. We originally wanted to check out Lion & Owl which is a minute away by walking distance but couldn't find it because it was sequestered in the parking lot of a nursery. Hence, we ate here. Little did me know they closed at 2 pm and it was minutes before. That ipso facto resulted in an unpleasant experience. First, we were asked to hurry. They gave us about one minute to decide what we wanted before asking us if we were ready. They stood beside our table until we had. Secondly, the food looked good but its taste would suggest otherwise. I got the Brail omelet. Unfortunately, there was a lot of grease from the omelet. Furthermore, the hash browns were over cooked on the outside and under cooked on the inside. Also the "toast" was hardly that. If you're going to dine, don't have high expectations. Love this place. It was my first time going to the 5th street location. We had a pretty large group and the staff was accommodating and efficient. We didn't have a wait (probably because we arrived before 10am). The food was absolutely fantastic (perfect after a big night out...). Joy's Special or Joyce whatever it's called was delish... I didn't love the coffee, though, to be honest, and I wish they offered stevia as a sweetener. Overall, though, really great experience and I'll for sure be coming back. 2 stars is what I can give. This is my second visit to Brail's in about 5 years. I figured my last review (not a favorable one) might need a refresher and Brail's deserves a second shot with me. I don't by any means think I'm the arbiter of what's good for everyone else... but I'm farmed sure the boss of me. And I think I'm pretty fair across the board. Anyhow... this trip only served to cost me $35 and reaffirm my previous contention that Brail's is a mess. "The best hangover food" it may be... which makes sense when you consider it's been voted so by a bunch of drunk kids whom I'd generally not trust to making good culinary decisions. This is the same crew that you'll find eating tide pods and Taco Bell at 2am. So what made this trip such a strike out for me? The food, then the service. In that order. I got the Brail's omelet, home fries, and a side of biscuits & gravy. I'm large part the food was generally tasteless. The omelet (eggs) were undercooked in at least one spot such that the eggs were still jelly like. The biscuits and gravy were nowhere near hot, barely even warm to the first bite (and I ate them as soon as they hit my table). The gravy wasn't bad, but the biscuits were tough and very uninspiring. This meal would have made sense to me if I were ordering it from Dari mart. Except at Dari mart... the b&g is always hot enough to burn your tongue. On a day like today... I'm not sure what redemption I could offer Brail's. We were one of three tables total that the two servers had to wait on. And yet finding a refill on coffee or water was nearly impossible without getting up from my table. I sure get to write reviews like this. But I do so in hopes that ownership sees such opinions and maybe makes adjustments. I also realize however that I'm just some guy with a particular taste. LoL either way... I rely on yelp reviews quite often and like to return the favor to other diners. So hopefully your service here offers warm food and good service, whereas mine did not. Give them a shot though. Great spot for breakfast (haven't tried any lunch items). The biscuits are full of flavor, eggs are cooked correctly to order and pancakes are fluffy and yummy. Hairy Riley Melt. The waiter was quick to take our order and was curious, and our food was brought out fairly quickly. My friends Hang Over Cure breakfast looked delicious and she enjoyed it with out incident. My melt tho, was a different story. At first glance I could see multiple fine white hairs on the edge of the sandwich. After calling the waiter over. I picked up one of the halves revealing the alarming amount of hair and hair clumps on the bottom(looked like a pillow that a fluffy cat had slept on). He immediately apologized and took it back. While I waited for my replacement we over heard a kitten staff mention moldy bread on a different customers burger. I regret not taking any pictures of the first sandwich. The replacement was brought fairly quickly. Unfortunately I still found several of the same fine white and hairs on and in the sandwich. The onions rings were the same from the first sandwich, so the time i got them back they were cold. The waiter came and check on us, he offer to bring me something different. The bacon cheese burger was good, but I still found a single hair on the edge of the bun. Had to ask multiple time for our beverages to be refilled. The only reason I'm not leaving 1 star is because the waiter didn't hesitate to take the food back both times and we weren't charged for any of the sandwiches. Brail's on 5th - Terrible experience today. I understand you're busy, but this was unacceptable. The restaurant is unfinished so the newer section is so loud that you have to shout to be heard. There are cleaning and construction supplies in the dining area. The staff is dismissive and rude. After being moved for a larger party, the staff ignored our party for 25-30 min until we were forced to leave due to lack of service. When we informed the cashier that were were leaving, there was no attempt to apologize or make things even a little right. Will not be returning to this location anytime soon. Can I start by saying if your party isn't ALL there when you arrive, their policy is that you can't be seated. There are signs everywhere. It is regularly enforced. So save the rest of us from hearing your complaints about how "they're just around the corner" and "what kind of horrible customer service is this?!" There's a reason for it! Also, if your friends are "right around the corner, you can wait two minutes and then be seated. /rant Food - I ordered the eggs Benedict and my husband ordered an omelet. I think he enjoyed his more than I enjoyed mine. The eggs were cooked well but the Hollandaise was lackluster. Brails on 5th I'm giving you 4 stars because you satisfied my needs for a diner that doesn't pretend to be brunch, not even a little. I don't know about the place that was here before, but who cares?, they were stuck in the 90's. The original Brails kind of is too. This is diner food let's be honest, it is reliable however. I had the special, a Denver omelet with bacon for only $7.95, more food than I could finish and satisfactory for the price. What's more, they have espresso and yes, they have booze! We are adults and it's 2017! Thank you Brails on 5th for acknowledging that we want a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa with our breakfast....moving on. I ordered an 8oz latte that I had them remake because it wasn't foamed properly and they served it in a small water glass, weird. I'm picky with espresso drinks. They remade it upon my request and instructions and put it in a small mug. It was delicious. The service was nice as well. I can be a kind, but assertive mistress, so thank you. The atmosphere is good, you can sit at the bar if you happen to be solo and they have partial outdoor seating with heating and a patio. The drip coffee, to be fair, is diesel-like. Having gone to the original brails a few years ago and liking it I was excited to see one closer to me. We went on Sunday afternoon and had a party of 6 it was pretty busy but they got us into a table within about 15 min of us getting there. My sister and I split an omelette they with hash browns and a biscuit, all was good but the biscuit, while it did look promising was like warm and nothing to write home about. My husband got the Joys special and he said it was good. My father in law got the spicy pork omelette with home fries he and my one year old liked it and my mother in law got chicken fried steak. We all agreed that now that this is closer to us we would be happy to come here instead of gjs or the pancake house, same price point better food. One weird thing is that the area that we sat in seemed unfinished. It was like it had been a patio but they enclosed it but you could see right through to the outside through a few cracks and it didn't quite seem up to code. I definitely thing this place serves up the best hash browns so I will be back for more of those! read more

I don't want to overgeneralize based on one experience of a day when they admitted they were short-staffed, but... the corned beef hash obviously came out of a can, which is inexcusable in a place that claims to be a serious breakfast joint (and charges $12.95 for it!) Brail's came recommended by a local and we are totally glad we listened. First, I have to start by saying that Joy, the Owner, has the most appropriate name of all time. I fancy myself a cheerful person, but next to her, I seem like I might need a nap. Lol. She is a bundle of smiles and positivity. Next, the service is top notch despite being completely busy. They are efficient, but not pushy or short with their patrons. They were happy to answer questions. You really feel welcome there. The diner decor is something that cannot be emulated or faked, it can only be achieved with time and old architecture, and they've earned cute-funky status. So you're probably wondering if the food lives up to the hype, awards, and service. The short answer if YES. I had two poached eggs, french toast, a sausage patty and strong iced tea. My husband had two fried eggs, hashbrowns with a side of gravy (which was really meant for me :)) sausage and an English muffin. All were cooked to perfection and the eggs looked to be fresh and pasture raised (high yolks that are dark orange, not pale yellow.) I liked that they put all of the orders not only in recyclable containers, but also lined them with foil, which is beneficial not just because that means we'd still be able to recycle them after using but so that any juices didn't run through the cardboard-like material. Some of us ordered breakfast items and a couple of us ordered versions of the noodle bowl. I'd had their breakfast before (in my opinion breakfast items are hard to mess up so I don't usually go out much for breakfast) so I tried something new and got the chicken noodle bowl. It was ... meh. I can't describe the chicken, it was strange, it wasn't shredded, cubed or sliced. It was something weird in between like shredded/sliced/ground. That's a bit questionable to me. Flavor wasn't amazing so I feel like there's not much to say. My sister had the spicy pork bowl and felt the same. She came across a funky piece of meat and decided to stop eating then. Most of the group agreed that the home fried potatoes could have used more seasoning. So the experience wasn't stellar. read more
