Not that I was expecting. All prepared-without any big furniture. One bedroom condo moving to 10min away new home took a 6 hour.

Ask the Community - Bookstore Movers

Are there any restrictions on the type of vehicles used for the move, especially in residential areas?

I do not know of any. They used a midsize truck for my move but in DC the movers have to check for street parking restrictions so they do not block traffic. The place I moved to has a loading dock so that did not apply

Can you accommodate last-minute or emergency moves?

Thank you for asking! Unfortunately we typically cannot accommodate last-minute moves as our schedule fills up further in advance. If you contact us and we're not able to help, though, we're always happy to send referrals.

How long are you able to store items?

HI! Thanks for your question. We have short term (less than 1 month) and long term options that can extend months to years depending on your needs.

Will you move from Baltimore to Charlotte NC?

Hi Fran, thanks for your question. We do not currently offer long distance moves and typically only conduct moves in the local DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia areas. Please see our service area map on our Yelp page for more details! We wish you…

Do you do cross country moves?

Hi Michelle- Thanks for your question. We do not handle cross country moves, unfortunately. We do perform local moves in and around the DMV area. Please visit our service area map for more details. Thank you!

The company offered a fair rate and worked with my schedule. On move day two WiiHA employees (Yes, employees. Not two guys picked up in some lot) showed up exactly on time. They were very polite, efficient, professional and careful with all my belongings. They even helped me organize heavy furniture and cleaned up all the packing materials before they left. The move went so smoothly. I highly recommend WiiHA Movers and will definitely contact them again for my next move. Be sure to generously tip your movers. They totally deserve it!!!

The guys were clean and before they entered they slipped on a pair of "booties" over their shoes to do the run thru with me. As we went over the items I told them I didn't get a chance to box a few things and before I could finish they said no worries they could get it packed up and ready for me. sweet!!!! They were very careful with my items and I was impressed with their efficiency. When we got to the new location, I did the walk thru with the guys so they knew where to put some of the bigger items and I was surprised yet again by them putting the shoe covers on before entering the house. They had a good system and everything was done in record time! When I finally got around to unpacking the boxes they did for me, I was taken aback at how neat and with care the articles were bubble wrapped and placed not thrown into the box. I would definitely use these guys again! They made my moving a piece of cake!

The manager told me that if I was ever in the area that I could park there and run my errands. Great perk, right? Not so much when you get back to your car and they called and had it towed. $135 to get it back. The tow company confirmed that it was indeed an employee of Extra Space Storage who called and had the car towed. Thanks! There are a lot of other storage options in the area. This place is a circus…read more I waited in a dirty, empty reception area for 20 minutes before "Store Manager" Selam Giday walked through the front door carrying a plate of take out food, wearing yoga pants, no uniform or name tag, and angrily began to 'assist' me from behind the desk. Perhaps I interrupted her break? She seemed really irritated by the one question I asked in response to her asking me if I had any questions, rolling her eyes and mumbling under her breath openly throughout our entire interaction. In the middle of the process of me renting a storage space, she literally ran out of the store to yell at someone that she thought was about to park nearby. I thought about ducking out right then but honestly I was afraid she'd chase me down yelling too. Predictably, when the charges hit my card 2 days later it was a different price than I was quoted by Selam. I returned to the store with my contract and the paperwork printed and signed in that very location showing the discrepancy, only to be told by a large bearded kid behind the desk that he "was only a part-time employee" and that he "couldn't help me." Wild!

Stuf Storage - Washington

Georgetown

OK storage with several "gotchas"…read more The OK: The units are "fine" in that they're empty and indoors. They would be pretty easy to break into if someone was moderately motivated as the tops are a simple fence-like cover. So, don't store anything of high value. Gotcha 1: No one is on site - it's a totally self-serve environment, which would be OK if everything ran smoothly, but it doesn't. Gotcha 2: Hard to access the facility - The storage space is in the basement of a business building in busy Georgetown. There is semi-close loading/unloading in an area between buildings but the parking guard only lets you use the space during an unclear part of the day. Twice I was threatened with towing if I tried to access the loading area in the evening (the space wasn't being used by anyone) for no apparent reason. Also, the freight elevators that are just outside one of the doors to Stuf Storage sometimes don't allow you to select the floor for storage. Also the doors into Stuf Storage from the elevators won't open from the elevator side so you have to prop them open or walk all the way around the building (up a floor and then down a floor) to access from the shopping side of the interior. Gotcha 3: Moving carts are advertised but don't exist - In my multiple visits, I was only ever able to find a small skateboard type of carrier to help move my stuff from my unit to the elevators. It didn't have a handle and could only support one box at a time, so I ended up using my rolling desk chair as my primary source of moving stuff (that and balancing 2-3 boxes on the skateboard while holding it). Also, there are extension cables running all through the halls to run dehumidifiers (or something) so rolling the cart and chairs over them was a hassle. Gotcha 4: Ending Your Rental - Here's where they really get you. (In fairness, it is in the agreement you sign, but the system is designed to trip you up and find ways to charge you extra.) First, you have to give them 24 hours notice that you're finished. Not terrible, but when there isn't anyone on site or answering their phones/email, it's easy to assume that you've checked out properly when you've notified them via email or phone. However, they require you use their portal (or it doesn't count). Next, they want you to take a photo of the empty unit after you've moved out. Again, not terrible, but when most people are clearing out their unit, they're not thinking, "Gee, I'd better take a picture of my empty unit," so it's easy to forget. However, if you don't submit a photo they will either keep charging you (by ignoring your request to close your contract) or charge you $150 for "cleaning" the empty unit. So, you're forced to pay a bunch of money or trek back to the storage unit to take a picture of the empty unit, which wouldn't be necessary if they ever had anyone on-site to check units, etc. So, as long as you're storing stuff: 1. That isn't very valuable 2. That's easy to carry on your own without carts or easy parking 3. And you are comfortable navigating the entrance and exit like an escape room 4. Don't want to interact with a human being with your questions 5. And like ending your contract in the same manner as quitting a gym, Then, Stuf Storage in Georgetown will be an OK option.

DO NOT do business with Stuf Storage. Your things ARE NOT secure!!…read more A few months into moving my things into my Stuf Storage is where things get "funny". In October, I went to my unit like I routinely do to get somethings out my unit. When I finally got to my door, I noticed the locking mechanism itself had been tampered with, almost pried. It looked as if someone stuck a crowbar or flat bar and tried to pry the door open. I took pictures and documented what I saw. In that moment I stood very still and very silent to make sure I was not hearing anyone else. Next, 2 random guys hop out of a storage unit with a surprised "oh shit" look on their face when they saw me. They immediately tried to run but I moved faster. They told me they had a storage unit there and they simply were changing clothes. I wasn't buying it, so I immediately pulled out my phone and the two guys ran again in another direction. I called Stuf Storage right away and told them what happened and showed them the pictures that are attach here. I was told the security "footage" would be revised and I would get a call back in 2-to-3 days max. About 3 weeks go by and still have no heard anything back from Stuf Storage. I go back to my storage unit yet again to grab a few items. When I approach the door to the unit, I could see even more damage to the locking mechanism. When I finally opened the door, I see the chicken wire used as a "ceiling " was cut open with pliers. I could see evidence of someone in my storage unit as well as missing items. I yet again try to reach out to Stuf Storage to someone name "Debra". Debra is supposed to be management...apparently. Debra proceed to tell me she would look into the mater and contact me. A few days passed by and I never received a call so I called Stuf yet again and "Debra" answered. She tells me the unit was cut into by maintenance staff while working on the fire alarm. Even if that was true, why not repair a unsecured unit. Debra did not understand the top of the storage unit was cut and the unit was not unsecured. 4 months later and I have yet to be reimbursed for my stolen items. Management screens my calls and don't answer. When I manage to call from another number management seems to coincidentally be busy every time and never call back. When I've asked for general mangers contact info, I was flat out told No.

Half of a moving job is showing up. My movers gave me a window of between 1-5 PM and 4:30 PM I…read morestill had no actual ETA. When I called the company for an ETA, I kept getting a later and later ETA. Around 6 PM still with no honest ETA, I spoke with the manager Kate. She said the the office would be closing soon, but that there was an error and I had been scheduled after a long, all-day job. This is despite the fact that when I had the confirmation call with the scheduler, I had reiterated that the 1-5 PM window was what I wanted. Finally at 7:30 PM I got an ETA of arriving to *start* the job at 8 PM! I had spoken with a few managers at this point, who assured me that despite the crew having worked an entire day's long job, there was no cut-off and they would keep working... I am not a labor law expert but that is a terrible way to treat your employees doing demanding physical labor all day long who have not even had dinner. I said no to having an exhausted crew who had worked all day long come to start my job at 8 PM at night. Not only did I not want an exhausted crew to keep working on my behalf, I also could not be the new neighbor moving in at 10 PM (which would have been the case given the distance and load time). Instead, I asked to have the job finished the next morning, which I am thankful they accommodated (the bare minimum here). This was a HUGE headache, I had taken time off of work for this move, and it was wasted waiting all afternoon and evening for an honest ETA. The communication was poor, only one person apologized for this snafu at all and I kept having to call back to get updates (few people called me back when they said they would). Additionally, I had reserved street parking at my new residence (required 4 business days notice to do so) which had expired by the time the movers ever showed up. It only worked out because my new landlord and ALL the other tenants VERY kindly helped me out by moving all their cars. All this headache and I had to ask for a discount, which ended up only being 10 percent. That didn't even cover the wasted reserved parking fee I paid for! The movers themselves were very good at their job, but it doesn't seem like they are treated well. When I told the first crew it was too late to start my move, they should get a rest and dinner, they were so relieved. I had expected so much better from such a highly rated company.

I'm writing to review a little late since we've been getting settled into our new home in Chicago,…read morebut it's been on my todo list because Joseph and his crew were amazing! We found out pretty last minute that we were going to be moving to Chicago. On top of all the added stress was finding a moving company we could trust. We received a quote for $3400 from another moving company for a full cross-state move. This was way out of our budget give. That we were leaving most of the furniture behind. Instead, we opted to do the good ol' Uhaul way. We needed movers to come help load the truck Friday night since we'd be leaving Saturday morning. I looked into company after company with some concerning reviews about efficiency, speed, and care. Made Movers was the one company that stood out with consistently good reviews, and for good reason! Joseph was super quick to get back to my request for a quote. He gave us a very reasonable hourly price, and was able to accommodate our Friday evening time frame. Joseph was also very responsive on follow-up emails, which I appreciated. On the day of the move Joseph called to let us know they were running 15-20 minutes late. It wasn't a huge amount of time, so I appreciated the heads up. Joseph and his crew arrived and got right to work. Most of our stuff was boxed already, but the furniture needed wrapping. The crew carefully wrapped our furniture with the furniture blankets we picked up from Uhaul. The entire time they worked very efficiently and quickly. Once the work was done, in under 2 hours, there were no hidden costs, nothing in our apartment was scratched or broken (horror stories I read about other companies) and the Uhaul looked ready to go. When we finally got to Chicago we were happy to find not a single piece of furniture was broken or dented, and the movers here were quickly able to unload the truck due to how well it was packed in the first place. Joseph and his crew were awesome. They at least made this part of the move incredibly easy, and for that we are thankful. Will 100% recommend them to others in the DMV area in the future!
