Pleasantly surprised at this place! We walked in on a busy Saturday night and sat at the bar right away. The restaurant it not big, somewhat on the smaller side, but not tiny. Noise level was above average but not unbearable. I ordered the Green Curry Shrimp with brown rice and a Japanese IPA style beer. The curry was very flavorful and the Shrimp were huge. Definitely not skimpy. I was surprised that it wasnt that spicy, usually the green has more heat but this was pretty mild. I didnt mind but if you want spice, make sure you tell them to bring the heat. Overall the service was good. The owner/manager came by and asked how everything was. I assume he was the owner/manager as he was dressed the part and he had this insane spiked psuedo mohawk that I was fascinated by. I think he got intimidated by my staring..lol.. Im not sure when I will be back because I dont go to Brickell all that often but this place is worth a visit. This place is awesome. A local friend recommended it and he didn't lead us wrong. We sat at the bar and had delicious food and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. This is a Thai and Japanese place. Visiting from San Francisco, I had some doubt as we had amazing options for each type. Let's start with drinks. We had the passion fruit sake. What!? Medium size bottle was served in a patron size bottle and was only $30. We shared with other folks at the bar as we couldn't finish. I loved infused sake and make lychee ones at home. This was delicious and unique. We were raving about it so much the owner give us free shots of his new creation - guava infused sake. Even yummier. :-) Now the food. We opted for Thai only as we all craved Tom yum soup. I loved it. Just the right amount of spicy and sour. Next we shared the seafood clean noodles highly recommended by my friend. I thought this was soup too. I love soup. Its not soup but also flavorful. It was full of seafood including lobster with an amazing sauce. We got extra noodles since we shared among three of us, with hubby and my friend from miami. It was plenty. We wrapped the meal with their delicious donut dessert with Carmel sauce. The kicker was we didn't even order it. Our bar neighbors who we shared sake with returned the favor and shared their dessert and thank goodness. This dessert come out with 7 donuts plenty for all of us at the bar with some left over. Lastly I loved the atmosphere. The Quick: Expensive but delicious thai food, subtract a star if you expect normal prices. Very hip restaurant where the owner is always available to hang with his customers. He has a giant Mohawk and is happy to take a shot of saki with your group. The Details: It's a fun restaurant, trendy enough for a date but also cool enough for a big rowdy group. The owner is a riot and likes to make sure his guests are having a good time. There are giant bouquets of flowers, the walls are colorful and pretty, and overall the guests are attractive -- classic Miami vibe. The Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup are delicious, some of the best I've had. The curry is also extremely flavorful and everyone in my group loved the sushi. I've been here a few times and the food has always been consistent as is the owner, who always has a big smile on his face. The Damage: The restaurant is still affordable, just everything is $3-$6 more than expected. Some of the traditional Thai dishes are more expensive than anywhere I've had in Manhattan. We came to Bonding based on the raving reviews. However contrary to the other reviews, we found the food and service rather disappointing. We came in on a Friday night at 7pm, there was no other customers inside the restaurant (was this a sign?) Yet, somehow we were pretty much ignored for our whole dinner by our server (a young woman). The food was okay, but it wasn't anything to write home about. This restaurant is a fusion of Thai/Japanese style so maybe the sushi wasn't their thing and we should have ordered thai food instead. We started off with a few small bites, but didn't want to order anything else after what we tasted.... We had the: Cuba Ocho Tuna - ahi tuna didn't taste very fresh, guac was flavourless Snow Roll - we enjoyed this roll especially with the seared snapper on top. Sleepless in Seattle - there was something that this roll didn't taste right and the crab salad didn't taste fresh. Overall, this was just A-OK. PS. This restaurant is more of a $$$ than a $$. Bonding is the newest member of the ever-expanding Thai/Sushi restaurant empire of the guy behind Mr. Yum and 2B Asian Bistro (and formerly Soi in Downtown) - Bond Trisransi. Some friends and I popped in for dinner, and though we didn't know it at the time, we were there for their soft opening. The limited menu didn't matter, and we enjoyed a fantastic meal. We were disappointed to learn that Bonding hasn't yet gotten its liquor license, and while we could've BYOB without any fees, we didn't come prepared. Word to the wise if you plan to check in out in the next couple weeks! Between 3 of us, we shared the Tuna Tataki, new style, the pad thai (with tofu), and a sushi roll that featured spicy tuna and avocado in pink soy paper, topped with a dynamite-type mixture of whitefish and mango (see photos). Everything was phenomenal! My favorite was the roll - it was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. We'd just asked the sushi chef to make a roll of his choosing, but totally forgot to ask what it's "official" name was. Service was very friendly, and the prices were pretty average - everything in the $10-$15 range. We all left stuffed, and spent less than $60 (not including tip). I'll definitely be back! read more

Sushi/Thai/Japanese restaurant Bonding is Bond Trisransi's foray into the Brickell market. And since I've remembered Bond's Mr. Yum very well and kindly when it first opened, I was happy to see that he is doing well and is able to set up another restaurant. But I've noticed that his other restaurant seems to suffer on Yelp as he turns to focus on this one more. Not sure what is going on, but I hope he's careful enough to not let it turn into another Sushi Maki. The food is not authentic, but it's light, fun, and tasty. You can say it's Miami's twist on what sushi is usually perceived to be in other cities. The place is still clean, casual, and modern. Bond's presence is always to be seen (just look for the tall faux hawk), and his hospitality, at least to me, is second to none. It's not cheap, and especially now that it's located in Brickell. Pricier than when Mr. Yum when it first started out by maybe around $3, but still affordable enough to entice a continual flow of the Brickell crowd. But really, considering all things, it's pretty reasonable. Some things have changed over the years as Bond transitioned and let his restaurant mature into the Miami market. No longer is the crab/tuna ochi (with crab/tuna and guacamole) on a fried wonton chip in the menu, but it has been replaced by the CUBA OCHO TUNA (fitting since this came into my radar in Mr. Yum's Calle Ocho location). Cuba Ocho Tuna comes with fresh tuna, sushi rice, avocado guacamole, eel sauce, and wonton chip. The SUSHI ROLLS have gotten more creative, if not in ingredients, then by name and presentation. You won't find the commonplace rolls here anymore, such as the dragon roll, but instead you'll find the dragon ball roll (completely different set of ingredients) - but these rolls are still tasty and can compete with the other popular sushi restaurants in Miami. Again, these rolls are not the best, but they're satisfying. Also any FRIED RICE has always been great, at both Mr. Yum and also here in Bonding. They're some of the better ones that I've had in Miami, and I wouldn't skip over them even though it's not really Japanese nor Thai. It's pricey for what it is though, but it won't disappoint. I've also had Thai food, and I thought them to be good, but they're not as creative. So really, this spot is good for those who may not be wanting something strictly Thai or strictly Japanese. When Tasting Table announced Bonding as "Brickell's new sexy Thai and Sushi spot", I instantly bookmarked it. Small, intimate, sleek with an eclectic music mix and bubblegum pink lighting. Service is friendly and fast. Our Thai waitress was very helpful and even brought samples of their house lychee and mango sake, as well as their sticky black rice. We ordered the special maki roll she recommended, since they didn't have a sushi menu available. The roll was big and included three types of fish and not too much rice. The grilled snapper on the outside of the roll had an awesome charred smoky flavor and I loved the spicy mayo. So yummy, no soy sauce needed. The pad thai was friggin' awesome. Portion was big again. I loved it so much that I asked to have half of the platter boxed because I knew I would otherwise be a little piggy and eat the whole thing. The shrimp in ginger sauce was also very good and they didn't skimp on the jumbo shrimp either. Thai donuts for dessert again a bargain, for $5 they give you about 10 - 12 donuts, you have to share otherwise it's too many. Prices are very reasonable for the portions and the quality of the food. Definitely curious to try more of their dishes but would like to see more seafood and vegetarian items added to the menu. read more

There was only one more table besides us probably because of the construction site surrounding the restaurant. We decide to order the Duck Buns as a starter and were immediately cut off by the waitress saying they were out of buns. Ok so we go for the safe choice, Popcorn Shrimp. Once the dish arrives, the portion looks generous and the plating is nice. Unfortunately the taste was SO disappointing. The batter tasted like only plain mayo. I felt like trying the Drunken Noodle and once again was told that they were out of Rice Noodles. Mind you, it was a Saturday night at like 9pm .. weird. At this point we were considering leaving after such a rough start. We ended up ordering the Crispy Duck Salad with a Thai dressing and the Dynamite Cupcake with baked seafood. Fortunately, both were really good! The portions were good enough to share and they both made up for the mediocre Popcorn Shrimp we ordered before. I've been dining at Bond's restaurants for about 5 years now, so when I heard Bonding was open I just had to check it out. We arrived around 8:30pm to a nearly-packed restaurant, but were seated right away. The restaurant has sort of fuchsia/lavender walls plastered with the "B" emblem. The seating area is minimalistic with white tables and chairs. The small menu is packed with fan favorites such as the Cuba Ocho tuna -- tuna tartar, with avocado, rice, fried wonton chips and a sweet sauce -- and chicken pad Thai. We ordered both, along with the special K roll -- tuna roll wrapped in rice paper topped with tuna mixed with a sweet sriracha sauce. Another dish we enjoyed was the ceviche tiradito style with fresh wahoo, soy, and lemon. A dish I was hesitant to try, but ended up loving, was the mee krob. It's basically crisp rice noodles with a sweet sauce and bits of egg and scallions. Very tasty. This is definitely a dining experience from start to end. I am really not keen on writing bad reviews, but in this case... I must. Just note that this review is mostly based on their sushi. I came here on a Sunday night with my Dad. After reading about this place on Yelp, I thought we could try it out. We both love Asian food, and Bonding is in a great area of Brickell. Let me start with the positive things about Bonding. They have very good happy hour deals, and their happy hour is everyday... even on Sundays! We ordered the fried oyster bao buns from the happy hour menu for only about $5 and they were pretty good. The oysters were nice and crispy. I just felt like they needed a sauce with a little more oomph, because besides the great texture, they were a bit bland. Also, the service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. So now the negatives, this was probably the worst sushi I have eaten in Miami. We tried 3 different rolls and although the fish was fresh, they were all very disappointing. The sushi had so much rice that it was impossible to appreciate any flavor in the roll besides the sauce and rice. The Mexican Viva Roll was on the happy hour menu, so it was only $6 or $7, but I found the flavor combination very strange. I have had plantain on top of sushi before, and I liked it, but it just did not belong on this roll. Also, the salsa on top just didn't go well with the other flavors. The Salmon Yuzu had absolutely no yuzu flavor. It was basically salmon with a little cilantro rolled in nori and rice. The pieces were sliced so big that it was unpleasant to eat. Finally, the Mylender Roll was just meh. It had ahi tuna, salmon, and whitefish served with a spicy sauce. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't very good either. Additionally, unless you order the weird Mexican roll off the happy hour menu, this sushi was expensive... like $17 per roll. Now, I don't mind paying that much for a sushi roll, but in that case, it better be amazing. Maybe I should have just ordered Thai food from Bonding, but sushi made up half the menu so I thought it would be good. I wanted to try a cool place to celebrate my friend Morgan's birthday so we decided to try Bonding. The place is small, but so cute. The ambiance is so much fun. The owner is a very welcoming person. First off, passion fruit sake is highly suggested. We had the bag of gold, which is fried shrimp dumplings shaped in little gold bags, are delicious! The I had the mylender roll which has a delicious spicy sauce. The fish was fresh and perfect served. One thing I will say is that everyone needs to try the pineapple fried rice! The servers were beyond attentive. Overall a fun place for young adults. They are also very accommodating for larger parties despite the size of the restaurant. They used avocado for our sushi rolls which was clearly not ready and even hard to cut, let alone eat. How can chef serve sushi with hard avocado and expect us not to notice, when it's heard to chew and obviously not ready to eat. And we paid extra for one which didn't include it on the roll. When we brought it up to the server we were asked if we wanted to change it and we said no but they charged us for the rolls either way, despite the fact that we didn't eat them. My wife and I decided to eat here on New Years Eve since we could get a reservation. We actually had to change it and they were courteous and helpful there as well. When we got there, it was busy but not ridiculous where you couldn't breathe. It's a relatively small place but everyone was having a great time. We ordered two glasses of wine which came out in nice, big glasses. They don't rip you off on the pours here which is appreciated. We ordered the Bonding Cigar which was crisp and awesome. We also had the Lobster Tempura Roll which comes with a nice presentation and was also very good. We then went with the Mylender Roll which was another hit and wasn't fishy or inconsistent in the feel of the fish. Everything was quite flavorful. She constantly refilled our sake glasses and was very personable. Our first sake bottle was the lychee sake and it had a wonderful flavor. The food was absolutely excellent. To start we had the wahoo tataki and the snow roll and both were very good. The tataki had a nice crunch and great flavor. The snow roll was savory with a little bit of spice to it. For our meal we followed the yelp suggestions and went with the red curry and were very satisfied with out choice. The presentation of everything was great also. Short story: not friendly to those with dietary restrictions, poor service, LIES, and food that doesn't taste good at all. I wish this place was as good as we had hoped it would be. Our party has dietary restrictions: some are vegetarian, some have an allergy to garlic and onion, some have other allergies to different vegetables. We'd been looking forward to eating here our entire trip to Miami and had called in advance to confirm that our dietary restrictions would be taken care of - they said yes in the morning. When we got there, we were told that none of the dishes could be made without fish sauce/oyster sauce because the sauces were premade. I'd never heard this at a Thai restaurant before as most of the places I'd been to in the LA area and Philadelphia area were able to make food completely vegetarian. They were also unable to remove garlic and onions from their dishes for whatever reason. My friends were extremely disappointed in this and ended up ordering plain noodles and plain vegetables - a VERY sad meal. This definitely upset the entire table and 90% of the group ended up ordering food they did not enjoy AT ALL. We asked one of the servers about this since we'd never run into this problem before and the server essentially let us know that our restrictions could be taken care of, but the chefs did not want to. First of all, that's bullshit because if that was the case, that should be on the menu. I've been to plenty of places where they don't make ANY changes to the menu and that's fine - it's written all over the place. Second of all, we were TOLD that SAME day that they could accommodate us so whoever we spoke to did not give us the correct information or the person taking our order (the manager, apparently) didn't want to help us out. I want to know if it's true: Do they pre-make sauces? Are they REALLY not able to remove the fish sauce from their dishes? Do the chefs really just not want to make any changes to the menu? I ordered the drunken noodles for myself, with tofu. I asked which vegetables came in the dish as some places keep it simple with onion and peppers, others add tomato, carrot, baby corn, etc. I was told that it was onion, peppers, and Thai basil so I went ahead and ordered it as is. When I got my drunken noodles, there were carrots on top, green beans and tomatoes in the dish - all of which I wouldn't have ordered in my noodles to begin with. I asked my server about this and her response was "vegetable drunken noodles come with vegetables" -- except I asked her THREE times what vegetables were in the dish since some people at the table are allergic to carrots and might have wanted to try my noodles. I was very frustrated by this. I had also asked for extra garlic in my dish - she said that they couldn't put extra garlic in the dish (how they can't throw in extra garlic while cooking my dish I don't know) but was told I could get some raw garlic on the side. When I got my drunken noodles I was VERY disappointed. They didn't taste at ALL like the drunken noodles I've gotten at any other Thai restaurant. For a place that "pre-makes sauces" and "can't make any changes" the food was pretty abysmal and we all left feeling like we had wasted our money on a meal that was not worth the hassle. I may not have had any authentic Thai food before but I've been to enough Thai places to know that this place is full of bullshit. However frustrated we were with our server and the food, I will say that she was patient with our large party since so many of us were visibly frustrated with our food. The most amazing... Attentive service I've experienced this side of the bridge. No Joke. Great, FAST service. Soup of the day is always free... Deserts are fire! This is one of the few Asian food places in Brickell. I usually go for their red curry with tofu. The miso soup was also really great! One thing that I did not like about this place was that they were not able to accommodate for vegetarian dishes. When I asked if the curry was vegetarian they said mostly but it has some fish sauce. Hearing that I was pretty disappointed because even the slightest of fish sauce makes the dish non-vegetarian. So if you're very strict about your dietary preferences I would not recommend it. As for me, I was still open to try the curry and it was actually delicious. It wasn't anything out of the world but a good spot for some quick Asian food. This place is quaint and delicious. The food is exceptional as is the service. The soft shell crab bun is out of this world. My husband had the massamam curry and I had the pad ke mao noodles. Both so delicious! When in Miami we will definitely come eat here again! read more
