Aight, here's the run down. Allow me a quick moment to get this out of the way. I'm from Boston - GO PATRIOTS. Okay, if it wasn't so obvious, then yes, I'm by definition a foreigner from the land of the upper North east. Was here to visit on a conference, and heard much hype from this place. So I'm sort of not in the "know", but when I hear the term "hot pot", I imagine a setting similar to that of shabu. Broth. Raw meats. Self service essentially. So as I'm peeking in a non creepy manner at the other patrons eating while we waited for roughly 20 minutes, I quickly come to the realization that I won't be having the joy of dipping my shrimp, round eye beef, and watercress into a boiling broth of tom yum soup. But rather, we pretty much skipped everything in between and get the meats and veggies in your boiling broth anyways. Poo. Ok, I can deal with it for a meal. Food: I'm not going to say it was bad, but I'm not going to say it was the bomb-dot-com. I don't know if it's because of the fact that, because it's so hot, you eat slow, so your food kind of sits in the boiling broth becoming overcooked, and ultimately becoming this sort of mush. When I'm eating what I define as hot pot back home, I like my meats and seafood cooked right at the point as it's done. Sometimes borderline still on the raw side, but I'm about that life. So for me at least, just having my meats in the broth longer than what I like makes me feel sad. A tip that I learned a bit too late is to ask the server to turn off the flame on your hot pot. we went there 5 minutes before it opened on a saturday, and there's already a big line outside the door. we were seated quickly and the waitress is very nice to explain the menu to us the stinky tofu pot is very good, the food here is authentic. the lunch special is very much worth it, with a drink included. the flavour is above average, but not up to the expectations of all those raves. we got an order of just the stinky tofu, it is very good, for the hotpot, i would recommend the stinky tofu one, it's actually not that stinky like the name suggested. read more

In my hometown, Sichuan, people love spicy food, and they even can't eat without chili in their food. The savory cuisine is part of my life. Since I came to Seattle, I have lived in agony because I could not find any delicious hot food anymore. I mean, here the foods described as "spicy" tasted sweet. It almost makes me crazy. That's why I like the Taiwanese hot pot restaurant called Boiling Point so much. At Boiling Point, the hot pot is not like traditional Chinese hot pot. It's more like the dish named "Mao Cai" in my hometown. They boil all the ingredients, such as vegetables and meat in a small pot with different flavors; I believe they have ten flavors. Every pot has spicy options like none, mild, medium, very spicy, and flaming spicy. If you want to make yourself warm, pick the flaming one. You also can add some excellent side dishes, such as the lobster fish ball, the fish tofu, wok noodle, udon, and vermicelli, etc. You will like to go Boiling Point at lunch time (11 am - 3 pm). They prepare free beverage for you: the rich black or green iced tea. Trust me, it's refreshing, sugary but not greasy. Their refreshment menu is plentiful. By the way, their best product is the Taiwanese milk tea. My favorite hot pot is the beef hot soup. Those already cooked meat are chewy and juicy. When you find the frozen tofu that soak up the broth from the hot pot, you obtain the treasure. If you feel the taste is too pungent, the vegetables and fish cake can help you take a break. Of course, you are always welcome to return to this gourmet feast . Also, they have some unique appetizers and desserts that I didn't try yet, but I think those will be amazing because I saw the pictures. Can you imagine the taste of desserts with names like Milky Soft Herbal Jelly and Tofu Pudding with Brown Sugar? This was my very first time dining at a hot pot restaurant. It may seem daunting at first but all you have to do is select your broth, spice level, add ons and then drinks. It's pretty simple. They serve you a dish thats definitely Instagram worthy. The dishes are shallow (makes sense to keep the soup hot a boiling easily) but they are stuffed with goodness from edge to edge. Also, they validate your parking so it's super convenient if you opt to park in the uwajimaya lot. The bad: It's tough getting the attention of most of the servers. No water refills. I pulled a rookie move by accidentally losing grip of my chopsticks and it took awhile to get someone's attention for another pair. Took two separate requests to get more broth added to the pot. Also, took my credit card to pay at the register since the service was so slow, not sure if that's how it's supposed to go. PS its sorta a noisy atmosphere so I don't recommend this as a romantic option, definitely casual. Pro tip: Save the corn for last. Most satisfying and sweetest way to end the meal IMO. Wow, BP hit a new low. The fiance and I have been visiting the I-district BP since last year. We'd come 3x/month, even during the summers! We're used to the subpar service because the servers look like they're students so there must be a high turnover. Food = 4.5/5 (we come here to get our Asian food fix) Service (prior to Oct 2017) = 3/5 very average. don't expect much; just want to come, dine, and leave. Service (as of Nov 2017) = 0/5 TIMELINE OF EVENT: 1. Our server wrote our order ON A NAPKIN. I'm 110% sure he went to clean tables with it after he took our order. 2. We waited for 30-40 minutes. Every table adjacent to ours who were seated after us received their meals. We inquired about this to a server passing by and he said he'd be right back. 3. Our original server came, apologized, and told us "something went wrong with the computer" and that he'd offer us "free beef side order." We declined the additional side order and just asked to cover our boba drinks. He agreed. 4. Ate our dinner and asked for check-- Boba was not taken off the receipt (surprise, surprise). Waited for any server to ask about this, but nobody paid attention to us. 5. Went to the front and informed the general manager that the server messed up our order and that he offered us free boba drinks. She spent the next 5 minutes asking (yelling) at all the servers to find who gave us this (*gasp* unspeakable) offer. AND behold-- our server was nowhere to be found!!!!!!!!!!! We were pissed. BP hit a new low in terms of service. Lack of consistent training, miscommunications, no attention to detail. After adamantly informing her of our poor experience (come on, he didn't put our order into the computer and we waited too long for our late lunch that eventually became an early dinner), she finally gave an unapologetic "sorry". K, fix your service plz. I don't mind average service but actually forgetting to put in our order and not giving us a genuine apology has finally pushed me over the edge to publicly inform others of my experience. read more

I like the concept of hot pot restaurants, but was skeptical to try this place out because most Chinese and Taiwanese hot pot broth are really bland to me. I ordered the house special which has the fermented (stinky) tofu. I loved all of the ingredients in the soup, but they only put one piece of everything in there, except for the nappa cabbage and pork slices. You can add additional ingredients but you will have to pay more. The pot comes with all of the ingredients in the broth and it's pretty hot at this time. The employees then light the chafing fuel on the bottom so that your pot will boil. I had them immediately put the flame out because I couldn't eat with the pot boiling. The broth was pretty bland as I expected so I added in the sauces provided at the table to make it taste better. We also had the mango snow flake ice dessert which was very good. I tried the blueberry one as well but the mango tasted a lot better. The place is pretty small for it being such a popular restaurant. I did not have a good experience here because i chose #1 (house special)which looked good in the picture but didn't taste as good as it looked. I never tried fermented tofu before and i'm a huge tofu lover so i thought it couldn't be that bad. it smelled and tasted like old baby diapers. the taste of the fermented tofu ruined my whole appetite. My wife and I were here on the grand opening weekend last week. They were offering buy 1 get 1 free special. I didn't know they were doing "soft opening" for awhile. I have been to the one in Bellevue once, I thought it was ok. On Saturday around 1:30 PM. the place was packed. Must because everyone was here for the special deal buy one get one free. They had a booth out in the front door giving out numbers and offering free hot tea. Pretty thoughtful because it was kinda cold that day. We waited for about 15-20 min. And we were seated. One thing I didn't like it too much is it's pretty crowed in there. And AC was a little too low for me. Because I am eating Hot Pot with 5 Star.. So i was sweating like a pig.. My wife's feel the same, said the AC could be a bit stronger. They had a lot of people working on grand opening weekend, so the service was great. They filled my water 3-4 times, and everyone was working hard there. Hope they can keep this up. The food was great. I ordered #8 and they did warn me about 5 star. The price is still a bit high for us, I guess that's because we cook at home and we can make hot pot pretty easy. they can validate your parking at Uwajimaya, so parking is not an issue! read more

A mediocre spot for hot pot, especially if you're looking for the younger/trendy "Asian" crowd. This isn't the traditional hot pot where everyone shares a tabletop burner and gets the pleasure of cooking your own meat/veggies. At Boiling Point, you choose the kind of broth you want and then you an individual hot pot with all the food already inside. The only way you get to cook your own food is if you spend extra on "side" items. I went with the kimchi broth which was not very flavorful at all. The broth was extremely mild and I was only able to get a hint of the kimchi flavor. The pot had a couple fish balls, a few slices of pork and was mostly filled with cabbage. I tasted my wife's miso broth which was much more flavorful. One important element that was missing was the various sauces/ingredients to you mix into your bowl to dip the food in (chinese bbq sauce, sesame paste, soy saucechili paste, green onion, cilantro)! I Anyone who knows "real" hot pot knows what I'm talking about. Instead there were 3 sauces on the table that you could use. Growing up, Unlike my dad, I was never a big fan of hot pot. But visit to BP defintely changed my opinion about it. I got the "Curry Fishball Hot Pot" and it was 10/10. I finished all the parts in it and the soup was amazing. The macaron Icecream was delicious. Although part of it got stuck in the back of my teeth, it was no biggie. I enjoy hot pot, but can't really call what they serve hot pot. It's more like a soup with really big pieces in a broth. There are 10 different base soups that you can order extra ingredients with. I'm not sure if those extra comes on the side or pre-cook with the soup. I had the seafood and tofu soup, and after burning my tongue, my shrimps, octopus, and pork was overcook. I didn't even try the little clams in the soup because the meat look so tuff already. The broth was bland and my hot pot was still half full when I left. The group next to me told me that their hot put was bland as well except for the fish ball hot pot. Service was non-existent in this place. I only ever saw the wait staff when I order, got my order and being rush to leave. This is the first restaurant I ever been rush out of, and I've been in a lot of restaurant at closing time. I order water with my hot pot (soup) and it was handed to me in a 4 ounce paper cup. Really? A paper cup for water when I'm paying $12+ a hot pot. It never got refill, but I guess we're suppose to drink the boiling hot broth if we needed liquid nourishment. They kept confusing my table with the table next to me. There's 2 extra people at the next table compare to my table. They try to give my change to the other table. Um hello I would like my $6 change please. Your service wasn't good enough for me to leave that large of a tip. Actually your tip should had gone out the door when you ask me if you can clear my table with half my soup remaining. Hello, can't you see half my soup is still in the hot pot and the reason I stop eating is because I burn my tongue drinking the broth with that giant spoon on the table. If you refill my water like I ask 20 minutes ago, I would have never burnt my tongue. But I'll tip still, just not 50% of my meal. If your looking for average customer service, do not come here. If you expect customer service of any kind, avoid this place like the plague. If you have time to wait for a table, average soup is what your looking for, no customer service, and being rush thru your meal, then this place is ideal for you. You can park in the uwajimaya parking lot and get your parking validated at the restaurant. I got the beef flavor soup, which tasted great. One of my friends ordered the kimchi flavor and they were out, so she had to get something else. Every time I go to boiling point, I always get a Hokkaido milk tea and they were out of that too. I normally don't finish my meal, and I just take the rest to go. But when I asked if could get a container, the waiter said they charge for that... Pricing Although it can be a bit pricey, lunch will save you a few bucks and it comes with a free tea as well so take advantage of that. It's a good amount of food for it's price, but dinner is still a tad expensive if you're not well off. Service Damn good service. The only con I can have about this is that the wait can be incredibly long since it's always booming with large crowds...typical trade-off for a popular restaurant though, so don't be too caught off guard by this. BP is the one places I would go when I'm feeling for something with soup besides noodle soups. I personally think the hot soups still taste the same as before the flavor evolution? At least for #8 Taiwanese Hot Soup. They say their hot soup is fresh & made to order but while I was waiting in line, I noticed someone pulling out metal bowls out of the refrigerator? I'm not sure but every time I ask for a certain ingredient to not be in the soup, it's still in the soup. Even though their hot soups may or may not be fresh & made to order, they're still delicious! I agree the pricing went up a few more dollars than before. I used to come here a lot because the food was great & so was the price! I feel like you can look for a different hot place that is worth your money. For the hot pots #8-#10, I know they charge a little bit more than the others because it's slightly bigger but I still think for $16(lunch)-$18(dinner) it's not worth. Every time I go to BP, there's always a long wait (approx. 30-40 min) especially during lunch time. Some people think this place is a "wait until seated" but you actually have to sign in w/ your name & how many people you have. For such a small place, the waiting area can get really crowded & I don't blame the people waiting when during this time of year it's really cold outside. Sometimes people would block the walkway (which can get really dangerous with the employees holding hot soups!!!) or get a little too close to the other booths while waiting. I think there needs to be a better management to keep the people waiting out of the way & not get too close to the people who are seated & eating (it can get really annoying when you have someone hovering behind you waiting for a table lol). Came here at 5:30pm on a Friday and signed in on the Tablet. Waited maybe 10 minutes for a table - not bad for a Friday! Our server was very helpful in explaining to us how to order and had great suggestions for one of us who is celiac. Food came out super quick and was delicious. First off, we have been to the Edmonds and Bellevue BP many times so I believe I am used to their servings and service by now. It was a chilly Saturday night so I invited my friends to have soup just last weekend and because Seattle was the closest one and I have not been there yet, we all agreed to go there. Parking was not a problem because Uwaji parking allows for 2 hrs free with validation. And y daughter and I have been craving BP for weeks now so we decided to head to this branch. Our group of 5 had to wait for 15 minutes, not too long. However, one of the servers, maybe she's a manager, Chice, was not a happy crew. We asked how long the wait would be, she said, I don't know. But she had a stern look, like a don't-talk-to-me-coz-I-don't-want-to-be-bothered face. Her answer was curt, with that irritated voice. When our number was called, she took us to our table with a long face and had that look like she was not pleased to be doing her job. Very unfriendly, unwelcoming. Sat us and handed the menu, and left. Their utensils, little bowl for sauce and tables are still a bit wet, the wait staff are very busy. As soon as we sat down, we were ready to order. But we still could not get over the attitude of their manager. Dude, if you don't want to do your job, quit. don't be in customer service with that attitude. Seriously, her mean attitude stood out to our group and the next table. Also, we were comparing notes as to the amount of food in each pot and Seattle seems to be a bit smaller in portion. Bellevue might be half the size of Seattle, but I don't mind driving there and waiting as long as i dont get treated badly by half-ass managers like Chice. She ruined our Seattle BP experience. They specialize in hotpot and cook-it-yourself style soup bowls.Everyone gets their own bowl of broth with stuff in it, with a flame-gel powered burner underneath. The broth wasn't very flavorful, and my bowl just didn't come together to be anything more than hot stuff in thin broth. The novelty of the individual-burner didn't add much to the meal, and I felt like it was pretty spendy (especially for dinner!) for what I got. There are many better options right around the corner. Also, they didn't have Diet Coke; they brought a Coke Zero instead and seemed surprised when I didn't want that. (I know it's a niche thing, but they taste completely different.) The soda was from a can, so I don't understand how they couldn't serve all the Coke types. read more

My favorite is House Special #1 with Stinky Tofu. For people who think it's gross...you should have known better when you ordered it. It has the description under the picture! My only complaint is that the level of spiciness is always off. I used to be able to order a 3 star but now it is too spicy for me. Instead, I would just order 1 star and add chili oil to my dipping sauce. Also, sometimes when it gets too busy, the rice being served is not cooked thoroughly. The first time I went to Boiling Point in Bellevue, I didn't enjoy it and that was 2 years ago. I decided to give this place a second chance, so I'd have to say I'm definitely coming back again :) A group of my friends arrived around 8pm or so on Saturday night (we thought it would not be packed because we thought everyone was at Paradiso), the wait for 6 of us was still about 30-40 minutes long. I wouldn't recommend coming in a party larger than 4 people, because majority of the tables had 4 people per booth. I ordered the hokkaido milk tea, you can ask them to cut down on the sweetness. 50% sweetness was excellent. I thought the drink was okay, but it tasted like it had almond/hazelnut creamer in it. I ordered the beef hot pot without cilantro, when they deliver the individualized hot pot to you, you can always request for them to turn off the flame or add more broth during your meal. I don't enjoy burning my mouth for the entire meal, so I requested for them turn off the flame about 10 minutes after they delivered the food. The rice came with the meal, it was dry, so I barely even touched it. Overall, I'm coming back soon. It's so good on a cold and rainy day in Seattle. read more

Now that I live in Seattle, I'm glad I don't need to drive to Bellevue when I'm craving Boiling Point. This location is much larger, and everything else is essentially the same. My favorite is their house special soup. It has stinky tofu, sliced pork, intestines, pork blood, a quail egg, napa cabbage, and some other stuff. I usually order it medium spicy and it is so good. I love the broth. Sometimes, if I'm super hungry, I'll order an instant noodle (like the dry kind you buy at the supermarket). I also love their strawberry shaved snow. We get it every time. In terms of service, it's a little spotty, but once you flag someone down, they're very accommodating. We will definitely be regulars here (we were here two days in a row!). read more

Awesome place for some Asian style hot pot. Prices seem fair to me, nice selection of different hot pot configurations. parking at Uwaji, and the hot pot soup bases are diverse and tasty. Also, this place has some of the most unique/best shaved ice I've had in Seattle. Highly recommended. Only downsides? It's almost impossibly busy on many nights -- a testament to how good this place is. Also, wait service is not super great, but is virtually identical to most other Asian restaurants in the International District (specifically: the staff is friendly and efficient, but you may need to work to flag them down if you need something). It was a bit larger compared to the other pot. It has a lot of things inside it, one of my favorite was the pork intestine. It was so damn good. It wasnt that spicy for me although they had already warned me about the spiciness. Overall it was 3/5. The broth was a bit bland that day. The service was 2 out of 5. The waitresses forgot my friend order and after 20 mins later, they said they were still cooking it? What's wrong with admitting that they forgot our order? We ordered the beef hotpot and luckily we had ordered an extra side of beef because the pot had a lackluster amount. The soup was bland despite its appetizing appearance. 4 stars for the food and 2 stars for pretty much everything else. The food had gotten better every time I've gone here! My first time at Boiling Point, I didn't really enjoy myself but maybe it's because of what I ordered, which was the house combo or special or whatever it's called. Ever since I've gotten the Japanese miso which I love to bits. I think the crab is a bit unnecessary since it's so huge but has barely any meat, but everything else is really fresh and yummy, loaded with veggies and fish and fish products. I've also tried the curry and Taiwanese spicy whenever my dining partners get them and they're both really good also! But the Taiwanese spicy is definitely really spicy. Their milk teas and drinks are really good also. I've only had their ice cream macarons for dessert, and though they're really good, I don't think they're worth the hefty price point, almost 5 dollars and it can be finished in like 2 bites! The ambience is interesting. The seats at the booths are really big and are kind of at a weird height but it's not a big issue. The individual tables I feel are a little too close to each other. EVERYTHING, and I really mean everything, is sticky. The tables, the floors, the seats. It's really unappealing. The service needs a lot of work. The process for the wait list is probably the best part of the service since they don't actually really do anything. You literally have to wave down servers to get their attention or they won't bother at all to check up on you. Even if you make eye contact with them, they will not come to you. Another thing that was annoying for me was the server girl didn't tell me that we get free green or black tea for lunch before I ordered my drink. I've only been here for dinner before where you HAVE to order a drink or ask for water which they serve to you in those cheap plastics cups they have at like children's parties. I would not have ordered a drink knowing I got a free one. She also repeated me order incorrectly and when I corrected her, she denied being wrong even though my friend also heard it. I'll come back for the food when I'm craving something hot and delicious and soupy, but the service leaves a lot to be desired and I hope that it gets better. read more

I'm from NYC. My sister and I traveled to Seattle, WA in like two weeks ago and Boiling Point is where we had our first dinner. We have done research before visiting there, instead of a random stop by. We ordered the traditional pot and another Beef Pot. Satisfying portion, taste and service. Came here for dinner on Thursday night. There was a line by the door. Luckily we got our table right away. The dinning room is very clean. I guess I am too old for those pop music that they are blasting inside. I wanted to leave after 5 mins. Even though the place is packed. Our food came very quick. Below is my rating. I felt like Service = B Taste = B Value= D Cleanness = A For $13, I found 3 pieces of thinly sliced port, 4 pieces of tofu cube, then lots of cabbage to fill the pot. My favorite place to get hot pot. Portland has a few spots but compared to The Boiling Point, it's garbage to be honest. I really wish there was a location in Portland. I always come here when I go up to Seattle. read more
