Horrible service, despicable. I went to get 2 bubble teas to-go, not even eating or taking up a table. Upon putting down my order at the service counter, Alicia was extremely unfriendly and gave us disgusted looks when I only made a slight change to the order. Afterwards we stepped aside not before being verbally berrated by Alicia telling us to get out of the way and wait outside. Yes, she said outside, not at the door, not next to the door, but outside. 10 minutes past and I went up to check on our order. Again before I can speak to anyone Alicia rudely said to me to wait at the door, not until one of her nicer co-workers told us that she'll get us the drinks in 2 minutes, which true at the end. Alicia, you're rude, unprofessional. You shouldn't be working in the food service industry. 2.5 stars at best maybe. I had high hopes, but ultimately was disappointed. The host at the front was nice enough when we went in (around a 25 minute wait on a Thursday night for 3 people, 6:30pm ish), but the servers were mildly rude and seemed very annoyed with all our questions, as it was our first time. The green milk tea in my opinion wasn't worth it, as it honestly didn't taste like anything. We tried the Korean styled pot and the house special. Presentation was 4/10, but flavour wise they both tasted alright (maybe a 6.5/10). Altogether I probably wouldn't come back to this location, but may try other locations in the future in hopes of better service and to try the other flavours. read more

It looks like they have gotten rid of the buzzer call system, and I agree with another poster that flagging a service person down is hard. A group of four of us came in, two orders came very quickly, and the other two not for 25 minutes or so later, we had to flag someone down to check on our order which seemed to be lost completely. They were very apologetic and our orders came out quickly, not a big deal. They have scrapped the desserts other than the dessert cube things, sad because I love shaved ice fruit desserts. SPICY! Man, the stuff here is spicy! The two chili pepper nearly killed me, maybe it was because of the boiling hot soup paired with the chili peppers in it. If you can't handle heat, best to go with 1 chili pepper or .. none. If you go in a couple, there's barely any wait but if you have 3-4 people they'll most likely be a line up. Quality of the food is good and clean. Soup is good but it'd be better if they were a biit more generous with the meat (I only had 4 thin slices of meat in mine). The bubble tea here is great! The Hokkaido Milk Tea is definitely my favorite. Service can be a hit or miss, sometimes it's around a 15 minute wait but sometimes when it gets busy, the server forgot to punch our order in so we waited nearly 45 min. I was tempted to just walk out... I would go again but with a cautious to really watch over your server just to see if he punched it in... otherwise you'll just have to wait an hour for your hot pot to come. read more

My hubby totally digs this place. He's a loyal follower from Bellevue. Yup - something in the soup turns him on, apparently! (LOL) So it's logical that I would host his first ever grown-up birthday party at Boiling Point Burnaby. We picked a Sunday night to go there, and because they don't take reservations I was worried about a long wait. Surprisingly we were able to get a table for 7 people right away. The service was a little slow...all the hot soups came out before the drinks even came. But the food was tasty as usual. I brought an ice-cream cake for them to keep for us until our meal was done. I told them to put in the "freezer", but they either didn't have a freezer big enough for the ice cream cake, or the message didn't get passed along...the cake ended up in the fridge instead because by the time the cake was brought out, the ice cream inside was almost ready to collapse.. :( Oh well, I should probably stick with traditional cakes in the future... I would give the service 3 stars but because the food was good and decor was nice, this place still gets 4 stars from me. I did appreciate the waitress who tried really hard to help me light both sparklers although only one lit up. :( Oh one suggestion for the restaurant chain: If they can make a regular sized version of the 4 "newer and bigger" flavours, that would be great. I drove by and it looked like a bright fresh place ..and I saw the words SOUP which I love. Made a U-turn and checked this place out with a friend. Hotpot was good. We shared the japanese miso one. Was very filling with a bowl of rice. Also tried the Hokkaido Milk Tea from the suggestion of my japanese friend, and it was good - I had ordered half-sweet and it was still pretty sweet. I am not sure how to rate this place. My partner loves hotpot, I do not. I don't see the logic in cooking your food when you go out to a restaurant. That's the entire point of going out, isn't it? Super poor service. Rice and add-ons came 30 minutes before our soup came so it was cold by the time we ate. Not sure why they gave it to us in the first place if our soup wasn't close to being ready. When I asked them for a new bowl of rice, they said yes but never came back. Boiling Point is pretty solid. Really big portions and the food is good. Service is not that great but I don't expect good service at places like this anyways. It's always jam packed in here, especially during dinner, so make sure to come early and grab seats. Both times I've been here I wasn't able to finish my meal and had to get it packed, and I think the most I've paid for my meal is $15 so the value is definitely great. The food are above average - as you are paying reasonably good price. The service is what sticks out the best. People there are very attentive; it wasn't just one or two members but anyone I encountered after several visits. They know when you need something and come by quickly from adding water to shutting off the frame in the pot. Tips: Adding a pack of noodle makes the meal complete. read more

The Atmosphere: I'm going to try and keep this short and not sounding too bitter because I did not have a great experience here. The food was mediocre at best (more on that later), seating was not comfortable, lighting was horrible, and health hazards everywhere. Starting with the design... The restaurant itself is one long, narrow corridor without much lighting; the fact that their colour scheme is quite dark as well really makes the place seem dingy and rundown (there are many restaurants that use a dark colour scheme, but because they have proper lightning, the place looks hip and modern as opposed looking like the used and retired torture chamber of the Addams' Family). The seats for the people sitting on the outside are so tall that no server can see anyone if they're trying to flag them down to order, or for anything at all (if they really wanted to keep the high chair design, they could have added a button on the table that can signal a server to come over, like with many Korean restaurants). The place isn't overly dirty or run-down, but because of the combination of lightning and design of the restaurant, you would think otherwise. The Food: For someone that has never had hotpot before, this might be an interesting experience, and you may even think it tastes "good", but coming from a background that has had years of experience with hotpot, I cannot in all good faith say this was even remotely "good"... Not at all. Let's start with the positives though. Their menu is great. A very clean and organized menu, it is a complete contrast to the rest of their restaurant. It is a single piece of laminated card that shows the main features on one side, and the side orders/drinks on the other side. They offer ten main choices with great pictures to go with it (which you will find does not look anything like what they bring out), and with a concise and easy to read explanation of what each pot contains. The back side has a good selection of extra side dishes you can order, along with a decent sized drink menu. This is where I stop running out of good things to say about the food. For the sake of not writing a paper and ranting on and on... I will break it down in bullet points. - Soup base is overly salted - The pot is made mostly of cabbage and vegetables, anything that's worth more than that you get maybe one or two pieces (for example, my buddy Sitruc paid more for the "crab" pot, and was given a dinky little claw... and that was it) - The bowl itself is deceptively large; it is only wide, but it is only about and inch and a half or so in depth - The drinks are in plastic take-out containers and water was served in a paper cup. There's a limit to how much you should cut out in terms of expenses... That is crossing the line - If you order one of the meat pots, the meat is all bunched up, and because of that, doesn't end up getting cooked properly, or if you leave it in there for too long becomes extremely tough, sticks to each other, and very hard to tear apart I will leave it at that. Overall: It just was not a pleasant experience. One additional thing to note; while I'm not exactly a stickler when it comes to rules and regulations, they had containers of flammable fuel sitting right beside the baby chair next to our table. WHAT?! How is this safe in any way imaginable? Why is it out in the open? Is this even legal? Forget about legality, this is simply dangerous. We were also sitting at the end table near the back of the restaurant, which is fine. However, what was not fine was the fact that: a) It was cold outside (December in Vancouver... I'm not saying that it was the Arctic cold, but the fact that there is snow on the ground says something about the temperature) b) They kept opening the backdoor to let in the guy dropping off inventory during our meal This in turn caused ice cold gusts of wind to be blown in our direction every time they opened the door; the key word in hotpot is "hot". I'm pretty sure you can imagine what it was like. Not. Impressed. At. All. Final Thoughts: I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Shallow bowl of satay like flavored soup Half a packet of instant noodle. Half piece of fish cake 1 piece of japan fish tubular cake With a splash of green cilantro for colour.. Presented like a bowl of red mush... For 15.99$ is a bit expensive. Only thing that looked decent was the bowl of old rice that was placed in a mold to make it look nice. Would I go back to eat.... ? Only if all the other hot pot places closed down. So no... save your money..or if you are rich useless student, cannot cook, or have a taste bud of a desperate person who just found out your friends lied to you that the world run out of food and was starving to death. They do not have family style hotpot here, it's all personal sized, and even that was kind of disappointing. Food: Their hot pots tho personal size, lack flavour and had a lot of cabbage. They have preset hotpot flavours with preset items, and they don't let you swap out anything at all. I wanted to get instant noodles instead of bean vermicelli, and they said they couldn't do it, so I said they could charge me extra and not give me bean vermicelli, so they agreed. I asked them if they could just put the noodles directly into the pot for me and yet they still said no, and continued to tell me that the noodles always come on the side and that I'd have to put them in myself. I had seen the people beside our tables hot pot, and when they got their hot pots, everything was already inside the pot, including the noodles. So I'm not sure what their deal was? That they charged me extra for noodles even tho I didn't want the original ones that came with it, and then they couldn't already put it in the hot pot for me. Questionable. I mean I'm not lazy or anything but why couldn't they? It just gave me harder time because the pot was already so full and I still had to put my noodles in when they could've just put the noodles in for me, I mean how hard is that? Anyway, it doesn't matter because their hot pot wasn't that good anyway. Service: After that whole incident with the noodles, I couldn't get past it, it just left a sour feeling in me. No matter what she did after didn't change how I felt about the service there. She just wasn't even trying to be accommodating at all. Atmosphere: Just your regular hot pot place with booths and pictures of the hot pot flavours on the wall, they brought out burners once the pot was done so the tables didn't have build in burners. Very nice experience. Although we arrived at the restaurant a little bit late(1:00p.m.),we just wait for 20 minutes for our plot. We ordered a curry one and a pickled cabbage one and both of them are with spicy in it. To be honest the spice made me feel uncomfortable,that it hurt my stomach and throat. So did my friend. Although the hotpot were huge and full of different ingredients,we decided stop eating them and leave. So any of them who can't eat spicy that much don't need to force yourself to eat spicy one. Been here a few times with my boyfriend and my brother. All those times ive never had any problems. Today seems to be an exception. We were seated briefly after arriving. The table next to us, we arrived shortly after they did, was able to order and get their food before we even ordered. We got sent a trainee to take our order, hence the 2 stars. He took the order by himself, with no one over looking his shoulder for mistakes. My boyfriend's order was perfect. He got what he ordered. My order was messed up. I ordered a milk tea with pearls, and a lamb hot pot with no spice. I got my milk tea without pearls. My lamb hot pot had some chilli paste in it. Boiling Point offers a unique take with your own personal hot pot of choice! While this has certainly provided a different and new experience from traditional hot pot, there are a few things that I would really wish to see improve. Firstly, always be prepared to wait an extremely long time during their peak hours as it gets busy. When I first went to Boiling Point, the wait time was about 10 minutes before my boyfriend and I were greeted by a seater. However, the next couple of times I went with friends the wait time was even longer. Not being a regular, the third time I went, it seemed super packed and I knew the wait time would be longer than usual. However, what I didn't know was that we had to put our names down on a clipboard that hangs subtly from a stand as you enter through the door and ended up waiting for over an hour to be seated. I would've left sooner but we were almost ready to be seated anyways so I stayed as we were going to be called soon anyways. Unfortunately, for each time I visit, the service also gets worse each time. I'm not sure if it's because of their peak hours or the fact that their employees never seem to be around unless they're cleaning tables. It could also be due to the poor design of the seating which basically has these couches that are far too tall that even if you raise your hand, a server will easily walk past without noticing. The seating is also quite cramped as I find the tables on the side of the wall feels like on very large cafeteria table only to be separated by a divider for every 2-6 customers it seats. It takes about 10 minutes to flag down a server only for them to tell you to wait another 10 minutes which is quite a hassle if you're hungry. While I do understand that a restaurant of this size can become hectic, the service is extremely slow. The total amount of time spent waiting for a seat and waiting for food probably took almost two hours. However, while I can't always say that the wait is quite worth it, I do always look forward to enjoying their #9 Miso which is slightly larger than most of the items on their menu. Each hot pot also comes with a bowl of rice but does not include a drink during dinner time, therefore you have to pay for a separate drink. However I don't mind as Boiling Point offers an interesting drink; the Hokkaido Milk Tea. A friend of mine had been telling me how much she loved it and I can say that I was not disappointed. It definitely has an interesting flavour to it that is not like the regular milk tea you get at bubble tea shops. But you'd have to try it for yourself to know how amazing it is! I would love to see Boiling Point improve their customer service as I genuinely do enjoy coming here and to also have a better system for waiting for a table rather than a clipboard that was barely noticeable. read more

Boiling Point is a hotpot chain based in California, with 2 locations in BC, one in Richmond, the other near Metrotown! We ordered a kimchi hotpot (regular size) and a miso hotpot (large). Each set came with a bowl or rice and a iced tea! You can also choose your spice level! You can also get extra meat or toppings for additional $. There was a lot of ingredients, a lot more than I was expecting haha! My miso hotpot even had crab in it! The miso base was really potent and very fragrant. My wife wanted to try this place out over the weekend - it was busy, but people come and go pretty quickly. Parking is a bit tricky in this area, with limited parking in the front and back of the restaurant. The black and green tea drinks were good but super sweet, too sweet for my taste but that's a matter of preference and next time i'd ask for half-sweet. The portions were a good size, pricing is decent, with lots of "stuff" thrown into each hot pot but hard to say the two hot pots we had (a spicy one, and a seafood one) had much in the way of distinct taste, but maybe that's just me who's had too many Korean hotpots. My only knock against this place - is that one of the ingredients they use in the place is pig tripe, and it literally smells like poo. You can't wash the smell out, so when we first walked into the place it smelled like manure...I have a very sensitive nose, but still like exotic meats. So if you're sensitive about the smell of various meats, just a heads up. read more

Good hot pot soup for a cold day or any noodle craving. 10 different options for soups and you can choose your spice ranging from none to flaming. My husband enjoys a lot of spice and didn't find "flaming" to be overly spicy at all so for those who want a lot of spice make sure you let them know. We've tried the house special, korean bean paste, beef and taiwanese spicy. I liked the korean bean paste the least and my go to is now the beef! Can be quite busy so expect a wait for larger parties. Sometimes it's just as busy for lunch at 2:30pm on a week day as noon so there never seems to be a quiet time to come. Would NOT recommend bringing kids because of the open flame under the hot pot...Also if you have room I would recommend getting the herbal jelly dessert :) a bit on the sweet side but so good! read more

This was the first time I've been to this new location in Burnaby. Having often been a patron of the Richmond location, I came here with a certain level of expectation. Upon entering the restaurant I noticed right away that this place was much much bigger than the other (making it great for big groups of 6+), we were able to get seats quite quickly. However we were placed by a table right beside the door, and especially now during winter when the temperature is in the negatives, I asked to to be moved. They were more than happy to accommodate our request and we were quickly moved to the inside. There is one layout flaw with their restaurant, there are dividers that separate each table and provides a certain privacy for each customer, but instead it also blocks the servers and staff from seeing when customers need assistance. We spent a lot of our time trying to flag someone down to take our orders. When the food came however, i noticed that the portions they add to each hotpot is much more than usual. That aside, the flavours and taste is all the same. From Dec 17-25, you get a free pack of wok noodles if you share their facebook page, instead of paying $1.50 for a pack. They are just like instant noodles but yee mein. From Dec 26-29th, if you get 2 hotpots you get 10% off, or if you get 4 you get 1 hotpot for free. (+) Consistent quality in their food. Came here the other day with a couple co-workers after work for the first time. For myself I like the idea of my own hotpot over sharing one large one with everyone, so I highly enjoyed that factor. The wait for our seats took a little longer, but thats understandable to how busy it was. The service was good, I don't really have spectacular anything to say about it. As for the menu items, they had a good variety in what you can order from, though I think their drink menu could have a little more to choose from. Overall I thought that the food was pretty good for the price and it was a very filling meal. One thing I want to add is that if you're planning on eating as a group with friends. You will have to split the bill after one person pays because they do not split the bill for you, and you cannot pay separately even if you calculate the amount each person needs to pay. My co-workers and I asked if we could tell them the amount of what each of us pay, but they said no even though they have to input the total amount anyways on the machine. My favorite joint for individual hot pot. I crave their hot pot every once in a while and must go to get my fix. Taiwanese Spicy hot pot - unlike the others where you can customize, is only available in very spicy...makes sense since it is called "Taiwanese Spicy." It is a bit too spicy for me so I have to eat slowly in order not to scorch my tongue, but it's difficult since it's so good and I just want to devour it. Fermented cabbage - it's pretty good, especially if you like tangy flavours. Fermented tofu - my favorite so far. It's not for everyone due to the pungent aroma. I went to boiling point and was super excited for hotpot, since it's been a while since I've had some. When we entered the restaurant there wasn't anyone really up front to greet you, or to seat you. My boyfriend and us stood around aimlessly for probably close to 5 minutes with no one checking on us or asking if we'd like to be seated. It wasn't even like the restaurant was crazy busy. I saw multiple tables empty and available. Eventually we ended up getting seated in the corner, where no one could really see us. We were seated without being asked if we wanted anything to drink. We sat there for approx. 15-20 minutes with absolutely no one coming to check to see if we were ready to order, or even if we wanted drinks. We got absolutely no service. After sitting around and not getting served, we just go up and left. It's really a shame, because I've heard great things about the restaurant but it makes me reconsider whether I'll go back or not.
