I don't usually write reviews, but when I do - listen up fellow yelpers! At first I was surprised as to why this place even has positive reviews. Then I realized that most of the positive reviews are from before the new owners took over. 1. Want to go to a coffee shop with rude owners that serve mediocre coffee? Look no further! You've found the place! 2. Need some napkins to keep your hands clean? Gluck with that! You get one (and that is only if you ask). 3. Need to use the bathroom? Forget about it! The very functional bathroom is always "out of order" maybe so the owners can save money? And oh yeah, if you are one of the lucky ones who does get to use the restroom, your hands will remain wet bc there are no paper towels in there either. read more

**NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY - KIDS NOT WELCOME** Came here twice within the last week with my baby. The coffee drinks were actually pretty good (matcha latte and almond latte) but what turned me off was the rude older man who came up to me when my baby was crying to say that customers were complaining from the crying and basically kicked me out. My baby was crying for maybe 30 seconds... and not a single customer looked annoyed or was "complaining". In fact, this place had maybe two other customers so I have no idea WTF he was talking about. This guy is a complete @$$h0le and will not be getting another dime from me. I rather give my money to a business like Starbucks because at least the train their employees to have common courtesy and manners. read more

Oh man, what a disappointment! My husband and I used to frequent this place (daily!) 20+ years ago when the original owner (Dale) was operating it. We moved away, but visited several times when there was a new owner; the quality and service remained comparable. We had heard that it had since changed hands once again, and today we decided to get our morning lattes there. Big mistake! We placed our order with a very nice young person at the register and then... nothing. We waited. We could see and hear an older couple in the back (cleaning? washing dishes?), but they didn't emerge for another 10 minutes to begin making our drinks. The drinks were nice and hot, but that's really the best thing I can say about them. The lattes were bitter and watery - as if the espresso shots were pulled too long. I tried my best to drink mine and got about 2/3 the way through (because my parents taught me waste was BAD). My husband got almost half-way through his. I'm a huge fan of this spot. The owners are the sweetest people, and I love chatting with them when I pop in. They have a really wide selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, and frappes. I try something new almost every time I go, and have never left disappointed! They're usually pretty quick, and the drinks are all super delicious. Their food is also pretty dang good. I usually get some sort of bagel sandwich, and again they never disappoint. I've tried their lox, a bacon egg and cheese, plain with cream cheese, as well as some other choices! The environment is cozy. It's a very comfortable space! The noise level is pretty mild. I can see this being a great spot to study, catch up with a friend, or even read a good book. Overall their menu has a lot of variety and options. I'd say there's something for everyone on their menu. It's a good environment, and the owners are really sweet and kind people to get to know! read more

Coffee, bagel with cream cheese, tables and WiFi were ok. Restrooms, however, were not available even for paying customers, so I had to walk all the way up to Safeway to use one. I love supporting local businesses and this is close to my house and have tried to support this shop and today will be last time I visit this place. I don't ask for much. Decent product and customer service. Product is fine here but what is up with the service? I went in this morning and said "Hi" to the man at the front. He replied with a long pause and looked up at me with a blank stare. I was like, ok. This already is a signal to me to just order and go kind of day. Instead of 2 drinks, I went with 1 because I'm not giving them anymore business than I have to at this point. I gave him my card, he asked, "Do you have cash?" I said, no, thinking, if I do, would I have given him my card? I understand the logic because card transactions cost the business % of the sale. This is my point, bad customer service can decrease your business. To end my already horrible experience, I tried, i thought hard to NOT to say thank you for my drink...and I couldn't, I still thank him for making my drink which he replied with a drawn out "Mmm hmm." Learn yourself some manners. How are you going to run a retail business with this attitude? How? Mom and pop businesses need local support but this is ridiculous. I am not going to spend money at any place that treats me like it was such a privilege for me to spend my money there. I will now drive double the distance to go to Starbucks or Peet's. My boyfriend and I stopped here for coffee, but we were also hungry so we ordered some food too. I'm so glad we did, it was REALLY delicious! We ordered: Cupcake Latte: my boyfriend liked it because the cupcake flavor wasn't too strong Peppermint Mocha: I loved this one because it was basically Christmas in a cup, perfect sweetness Sausage Breakfast Wrap: SO GOOD! Way better than the Starbucks wraps I'm used to getting Lox Bagel: Pretty good as well! Had a good amount of smoked salmon The atmosphere was also nice, very clean and spacious and free wifi! Good for studying and reading, they even had couches in the back. Plus the couple that served us was really friendly. Overall we had a great experience, I'll definitely be coming back! read more

I usually go to Peet's on Friday to change up my work from home routine. I felt I should support a local business instead, so I came to Bodi's for my first time. There was a cool crowd of 7-8 elderly men gathering and just connecting with each other in lively chatter. That was adorable. They left little by little. Quite a few people have been trickling in consistently, they're doing well. I never knew this was here and I live up the hill. Well established business, doing well despite the pandemic. A huge selection of items. I'm on keto, so only could have their black coffee, but enjoyed the experience. Oh, and one of the people behind the counter kept coming out sanitizing everything thoroughly. Felt extremely safe. Like that the door is open for ventilation. Will be back! read more

I'm a fan of local coffee houses, and Bodi's is our first choice in Castro Valley. We enjoy their bagel sandwiches and smoothies. The atmosphere is kid friendly, yet not overrun with unruly crumbsnatchers. It's rather quiet and relaxing, with a few well worn couches and a large fish tank. The coffee itself is not my favorite - I drink drip coffee, not lattes or caramel mochaccinos or whatever. But for a warm place to stop and have a nice light brunch and relax, chat with friends or do a little work on your laptop... very nice. read more

Bodi's is an amazing little coffee shop! They are a small mom and pop business with the sweetest couple as owners. They remember your name, your order, your kids. This place is spacious and a wonderful place to catch up with friends or read a good book. For lunch, I'd recommend their daily special. At $6, you get a half sandwich, half salad and a bag of chips. They also have a wide variety of espresso drinks. Their latte beats Starbucks in both taste and price. I had a pretty good experience! This is a small cafe with some good choices on food. They offer breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches. I wanted to go healthy... somewhat and ordered the Tomato with Eggplant sandwich. It had sun dried tomatoes and grilled eggplants. It was quite tasty but the size was pretty large. Their coffee was actually pretty good. Something that I didn't expect. I tend to be biased towards Starbucks. They had a Iced Vanilla Latte with Soy. The service was very quick. I want to like this place and I used to come here all the time under the old management. I live about 2 miles away, but I can't come here anymore. First customer service is bad. There is a $5 minimum to charge on credit card, but when my order came to $4.50, the woman glared at me to order more. Do you want my business or not? She finally accepted it but was not happy. The other thing is that it is almost pitch dark in there. Reading is impossible unless you sit by the front window during the day when there is a lot of light. Looks like they are trying to save electricity....among other things. There is a sign on the wall above the napkins to use the napkins sparingly. Really??? So, they are very cheap. They are obviously trying to cut costs, but credit card processing fees, napkins, and electricity are the normal costs of running a coffee shop. Being cheap and withholding the bathroom key to squeeze a few extra bucks from your customers is not the way to run a business. So, I'm done with them. I'm driving across town to Cafe 4 at the 3Crosses Church. It is well lighted, spacious, with plenty of napkins and easily accessible bathrooms. read more

Lived here all my life & tried it for the first time this past weekend! This a fairly nice coffee shop with a good amount of seating. It's a good place to grab a cup of coffee, and have a casual conversation with friends. I would recommend this place to coffee drinkers that have more if a sweet tooth, or enjoys the blended coffee drinks more. I ordered a snicker mocha which tasted nothing like a snicker bar, but was quite tasty nonetheless. I also tried my sister's caramel macciato which was yummy as well. I stopped in after a meeting and picked up a mocha to go on the way home. The atmosphere was very nice and the mocha tasted wonderful. They are very close by to my home so it was convenient as well. Unfortunately I have to be at work at 4:30 in the morning so stopping to buy a mocha in the morning is just not possible. Still, I like this place and find it to be an essential business in our neighborhood especially now. read more

I'm giving Bodi's Java four stars simply because I've only had their coffee. I ordered their iced Carmel Machiotto which is, in my opinion, hands down, better then Starbucks! And that's coming from someone who frequents Starbucks :) I'm anxious to try a breakfast item off their menu; all of them sound delicious!! I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the coffee shop, it's quite spacious and cozy. If you like that "café feeling" like I do, you should give this place a try. The good: 1. Ample parking 2. Latte not bad 3. Lox bagel was delicious 4. Ample seating 5. Free wifi (as advertised outside...) When I got there in the morning, view was wonderful, so was the fresh air. Nice way to start the day. The older lady who took my order was friendly and lovely. There was an older gentleman didn't talk too much and might have perceived rude by other reviewers, but I think he was just occupied by what he was doing e.g. making food or making coffee. I am ok with cutting some slacks for him; that doesn't bother me. No need to get discouraged by other reviews and prevent you from coming. read more

Love Bodis and their owners - who do a phenomenal job! Great coffee and food items, fair prices and super clean. For any who complain about the rear lights often off or restrooms for customers only, it is due to their landlord continues to gouge them (and the other shop owners in the strip mall) and it's tough for small businesses to afford to stay in this community. read more

I decided to give Bodi's a try since it seems like a nice little local cafe but needless to say I was thoroughly disappointed by the service. I ordered a small coffee with soy and after I got home and took two sips I knew something was off, it tasted sour and the coffee wasn't smooth. I removed the lid and discovered curdles moving around in my coffee (imagine the clouds in miso soup). I drove all the way back to Bodi's to let them know the soy isn't right and the lady behind the counter took one look and poured my coffee down the drain before I was even done speaking! She said that soy milk is suppose to curdle once it is poured into coffee but I disagree. I've been drinking black coffee with soy for years and this has been the only time this has happened. She walked off to help someone else as I stood there and watched her help at least 2 customers. After a few minutes she looks at me and says "what do you want?" By this point I was very upset, my original intention was not to cause a scene but due to the lack of customer service and attitude, I was not going to walk out without a refund. I told her I wanted my money back and she tries to hand me $1 when the board clearly says a small cup of coffee is $2.50. When I mentioned the price she said "it doesn't cost that much," luckily the other woman behind the counter said "yes you did charge her $2.50." She handed me the money and never apologized. I drove back because I didn't want anyone to get sick from bad soy milk and I wasn't even expecting them to correct my cup of coffee. But, the fact that she never acknowledged her mistake and the lack of an apology was really upsetting. A little customer service really goes a long way. read more

Possibly the most uncomfortable coffee-going experience I have ever had. I'm lactose intolerant so I always opt for my coffee with soy, despite the ridiculous +$0.75 or whatever that is pretty much the standard everywhere. So let me be clear: I don't mind paying extra for soy. But the soy milk at this place was clearly expired; there were curdled chunks in my drink, and the entire drink tasted sour like vinegar. I never return food or ask for replacements, so I was hesitant to do it here... But my boyfriend, who's been here a couple times, assured me they would be nice about it. I returned the drink, a lady came out to apologize. She made me the same coffee drink and watched me pour the soy milk into the coffee. I tried to show her the curdled chunks floating in the coffee, but she insisted she didn't see them. She then told me to try it. Obviously I didn't know what to do so I sipped it, smiled and left. Just a completely uncomfortable experience overall- I won't be back. read more

I've been here about 3-4 times in the morning, always getting a medium cup of coffee and sometimes a pastry. The coffee tasted decent, a little burnt but overall worth the price. Inside, its a great atmosphere. It's obvious that a lot of people come here to meet up and chat, the cashiers and the owner are friendly, and the decor makes it easy to relax. The free wi-fi makes it a great place to study, but bring headphones! Bodi's can fill up quickly in the mornings towards lunchtime, and it can get pretty distracting. Overall, its a good place to relax, study, or just grab a quick cup of coffee. I'll definitely be studying around here quite a bit. read more

New owners are HORRIBLE!!!! The older lady who used to run the shop was sweet and made you feel like a customer. New owners make it clear they aren't there to be nice or friendly. They just want your money and I don't plan on giving it to them again. I walked in to get a iced tea, but had to use the restroom. So of course I ask for the bathroom key first since I had to pee,but also wanted to wash my hands good since I had been out running around doing errands. The owner says " You can't use the bathroom if you're not going to buy something" I let her know I am buying something but I have to use the restroom first. She says " well you have to make a purchase first. " Now, I've been in this shop many times ( I live accross the street) so not only have I spent money here, I planned to spend money today. I politely tell her she's sounds obnoxious and now I'm not spending another penny in here and I will go somewhere else where customer experience is a priority. If you expect me to hold my pee to make a purchase you don't deserve my money, that's just rediculous. She couldn't wait a few mins for me to use the bathroom & wash my hands?!? . I went to dickys a few doors down and used the restroom with no problem at all (I asked for the restroom and the server pointed me in the right direction) . I then drove down the street to Peet's Coffee and bought a Fog iced tea.!!! It was amazing & the customer service was great!! I am all about supporting local small businesses, but you can't be a jerk to customers and expect them to spend their hard earned money with you. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THIS LOCAL BUSINESS AGAIN and I'm advising everyone else to do the same. Your dollars won't be respected here. read more
