I see myself spending a fair amount of time here in the future, considering that I'm contemplating moving to CV. This place has GREAT sandwiches. The #3 was excellent. To Allison, it seems like they serve drinks in ceramic mugs. Umm, not much else to say. They have wifi, a TV, a decent amount of seating, etc. etc.... It looked like they may have a cozy couch in the back but I didn't venture back there on my lunch break. Edit 1/18: Went back with my boss on Friday. Ended up utilizing the couches in the back. Fruit smoothies were tasty but came from frozen packets of fruit and were too expensive. The sandwiches, especially the "TRE" are unbelievably good. Super spaciously clean Castro Valley coffee shop. Definitely a Starbucks/Peete's alternative, not that there's anything wrong with the Berkeley/Seattle chains. Cappuccino tastes decent yet typical. They're also more than considerate to have a kiddie den at back. Unfortunately, Bodi's doesn't have WiFi. Their calm establishment is ideal for some quiet study time and webtime. There "may be" an open hotspot or two nearby, and I'll leave that to your judgement or conscience or what have you. read more

Pros: atmosphere, free wifi, good for kids, clean bathrooms, friendly staff, lots of different kinds of drinks, breakfast bagels, supports community events and businesses, decent prices for drinks Cons: almost every mocha, latte, cappuccino, and other mixed drink here is made with some sort of powder mix, the sandwiches are pretty expensive for what you get, and the biggest complaint of all, no DRINK STOPPERS for when you take drinks to go (like the ones at Starbucks)! It drives me crazy. I hate buying drinks in large quantities for other people because it spills all over my car. They give you a piece of scotch tape, but it really doesn't help. This place has really gone down hill. The owners are extremely cheap. They won't put out napkins (always have to ask), they take the light bulbs out of the light fixtures to save the marginal amount of energy they consume (place is always dark), they keep the bathroom locked so that you won't use any water. Came in to get a cup of coffee. Nothing fancy just a regular cup. It was OK. The gal behind the counter smiled & seemed personable but was rushed & preoccupied with something else. The atmosphere was OK. They had tables throughout & couches in the back. There were some bins with toys but the toys were pretty picked over. I would bring my toddler here if they added something other than Lego's to the bins. There is free WiFi & they serve food. I didn't eat anything but it looked like they had a good selection. I noticed they had several Valentine's Day specialty drinks that sounded delicious (& caloric). The Tiramisu Latte was calling my name. I need to get a good workout in before I consume that so I will be back another day after I hit the gym. read more

I've been coming to Bodi's for over 5 years since I live nearby. It's one of our meeting points when we do our motorcycle rides. I think they must've changed ownership last year since there are new faces working there now. Generally I get a coffee and sometimes a cookie and sit outside and chitchat with the other riders. Twice now I've gone back inside to use the bathroom and both times they were locked and the people working there said I needed a key, but in order to get the key, I had to order something. Both times I told them I had ordered coffee and finished it, that's why I had to go to the bathroom. Both times they refused to give me the key. These new owners are totally unbelievable!! This is one local small business I will refuse to support. Please bring back the old owners, they were so nice and didn't keep their bathroom locked. read more

I LOVE Bodi's! They have the best Soy Chai. I always order a mixed soy chai (1/2 vanilla, 1/2 spice). The employees are super cool, they keep the restroom pretty clean. There are not too many tables but I've never had a problem. I love being able to go to 24 hour fitness in the morning and then treat myself to some yummy calories right after. The location is so convienent and there is plenty of parking. They have been continuously upgrading the place so there is free WIFI, 2 flat screens, gift cards and more- I love the bumber sticker behind the counter that says, "Friends dont let friends go to Starbucks" You Rock Bodi's! read more

Bodi's Java - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Castro Valley, California

I came mid afternoon so it wasn't too busy. Staff was very friendly and quick. My bro and I ordered: due (ham sandwich), tre (turkey sandwich), and a tuna melt (a tuna melt). The first two came on a french roll type bread, toasted on a panini press. The tuna melt came on regular sliced bread, also toasted on a panini press. Look, I'm a simple simple man. I liked it. If it's good, AND it looks fancy? Dang, extra points for you. Then again I have no shame walking around with knockoff brand clothes either, so it may differ from person to person. Anyways, the first two were very similar, aside from meat choice. The ham sandwich, however, carried more of the pesto sauce, while the turkey had a bit more balsamic undertones. I'm not EXACTLY sure what undertones are, but I guarantee they were there. Both delicious. Tuna melt, same deal. Tuna was mixed with bits of celery for some texture, and melted with pepper jack cheese (that's what we chose at least). I'm a sucker for sandwiches in general, but all the food here was satisfactory. Last thing I note will be the price. Honestly, not bad. It's hard to find any place to buy lunch for less than 10, so getting a sandwich and coffee for just over 7 dollars is definitely a plus. Also picked up a hot coffee. Standard coffee, but I do appreciate the choice in sweeteners available including: cane sugar, granulated sugar, brown sugar, simple syrup. All the friends know of how much I love this place. Drip coffee junkies (like me) can rejoice together in a good, honest cup. For sweet tooth-ed, there's like a million different specialty drinks with a wide variety of syrups and flavors. But the food... oho man is it good coffee-shop fare here! All my faves in pastries, from ollalaberry scones to almond croissants, and just a plain bagel toasted up is awesome here. For heartier stuff, you cannot go wrong with a "breakfast bagel" which is your choice of said round + pick three items to go in it (like mozz, pesto, and turkey, etc.) Or, for a "real lunch", do a half sandwich/salad combo (Tre is my favorite). My son and I absolutely love this cafe. They have the best sandwiches. We brought my husband here, but he did not like the fact that they did not have mustard. I still like the place. I've been a customer of this establishment for years. Here in Castro Valley, we have many choices for fast foods, but as far as coffee houses, we have Starbucks, Peets, Bodi's Java and perhaps one or two more. What distinguishes Bodi's from the others is that the atmosphere is more family friendly. The owner, really cares that you leave her business a satisfied customer. I used to come here a lot when I lived here. It sure has changed. The coffee tasted old. We split a bagel with cream cheese and it barely had any cream cheese. We were told the bathroom was out of order but we suspected they just don't want anyone to use it. I agree with others - the man is rude. Rude and cheap is not a good way to stay in business. Tucked away in the strip mall in Castro Valley, this humble mom and pop coffee shop is just a pleasure to frequent. First off, very good coffee! They also have a huge selection of breakfast and lunch food that's equally delicious to complement the coffee. Thumbs up to the Lox bagel! It's quieter and calmer than the craziness of Peets or Starbucks. The owners there seem to know all the customers by name and jokes around with them. It's nice to see mom/pop shops still succeeding this day and age. Fast internet to boot. Great experience all around. Before coming here I made sure to check to see what time they closed so I could fit in some studying before work. I had more than enough time! I get there, order my drink, unpack my study material, and the lady tells me they are closing "now" because they want to go home. I understand that I was the only one in there, but if there is a posted time, I expect an establishment to be open until then. The worst coffe ever I had in this area, simply because the owner does not use adequate amount of coffee ground per drink. I ordered a mediam cappuccino and belive me, this old gentleman hardy put half of the scoop of ground coffee to drip. Really? You want to save money with the amont of coffe you use in yiur cappuccino or mocha etc? When I asked "is this one shot"? He claimed ut was two shots (a teaspoon size ground LOL). Then he said "4 shots in a large" . LOL, medium has one tea spoun same as large, the only difference is more cheap milk to top off! I know same story for large. Extremely low amount of ground, topped off the whole glass with cheap milk! It is very obvious that they are getting away due to lack of competition around that place. Advice to the old man: take pride of what you do for every cup of coffee. Please dont be so cheap. Even McDonalds makes better Cappuccino simply because of your inconsistent cheap effort by dispensing less grounds per cup. I'm always the person who's looking to get away from Starbucks. My parents owned their own cafe/bakery when I was little so I always feel I owe it to the little mom and pop's cafes in the area. Sadly they're a little hard to come by. When I stumbled upon Bodi's cafe, I was so thrilled to find that they actually know how to make coffee! Many other places over-sweeten their drinks or don't know how to serve much else other than drip but Bodi's has a full-range of drinks. No matter what your tastes are you will undoubtedly find something you will like here. They also have free Wi-Fi and great customer service (they're family owned and the girls are very friendly).
