Made a reservation here with some friends we haven't seen in a while. They are very accommodating with their reservations. I called them to see if I could move it 30 minutes back (due time traffic) on a Sunday afternoon and they did it right away. By 5pm here it was starting to get crowded. Its right a long a row of other restaurants and eateries in downtown Pasadena. Parking is either street parking (if your lucky) or one of the many parking lots around the area. They have both outdoor (by the street) as well as indoor dining. I do love their decor indoors. Its very rustic and homey feeling. You can see the chefs and cooks behind the glass windows cooking up your food. Lots of Peruvian menu items. I got their choclo Serrano for apps. Which is their style of street corn. I was expecting the traditional street corn but instead the kernels were really big and almost hard to bite. And the cheese were cut into small cubes as suppose to crumbled cotija cheese. But it was good. I love the butter flavor. And the cheese added some nice flavoring to the corn. It was a really nice appetizer. For my entree I ordered their chancho al palo, which is only on the weekends and its their rotisserie style pork with pork cracklin served with plantains, potatoes and rice. The large cracklin was thick!! Definitely crunched. Lots of fat on the underside. It was pure amazing!!! Pork was cooked well. Tender and fall apart on the middle. Some of the outer parts were overly charred and very tough to chew. Flavors were just OK. Needed some sort of sauce on it or just more salt.... Some of the other dishes ordered were the lomo soltado and their milanesa con tallarin sauce. Lomo saltado is not as good as the one I've had at the Vox in Fountain Valley. And their bistec was so tough and hard to chew. It was not good. If that was my main entree I would've dropped this review to 3 stars. Food did take a long time to come out. And they ran out of their diet inca cola. Their maracuya (passion fruit) juice was really good. Wish it was a little bit colder. To get the bill and pay for it also had some lag. Overall authentic (I think, my knowledge base about Peruvian food is limited) Peruvian food. But I do think the Vox in Fountain Valley is much better. I like the vibes in here. Had a craving for a rice dish and decided to try this. There were actually quite a few items we wanted to try. We ended up ordering the lomo saltado and the arroz con mariscos. 10/10! It was a quick ordering process since we got it to go and it was ready within 20 minutes. And blazing hot! They close at 9pm and at 8:45pm it was still pretty busy. Came for a lunch on a Sunday for a gf's birthday gathering. Our server was really helpful when we wanted to check about a certain allergy for one in our group of 3, so we were very appreciative of that. Got to try a few things: -Cortado (coffee), I only tried a sip but it was strong (to me)! A small cup, like a European cappuccino. -Pescado Sudado, a grilled fish fillet sitting atop some veggies (bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and potato) and a tomato-wine broth. Served with a side of rice. I enjoyed this dish very much! -Tallarin Saltado Criollo w/ Chicken (choice of proteins are: beef, chicken or shrimp). This was surprisingly good. I'd say the flavor is similar to a Lomo Saltado, except instead of rice you have the pasta noodles. I liked this dish as well. -Yuca Frita, they don't have it as an appetizer but a side here. I wished it came out closer timing-wise with our other food so I could dip it in the sauces. Otherwise, the side dish was nothing to rave about. Parking in Old Town can be a bit of a doozy. If you don't mind walking, you can park at any of the lots and walk over. Otherwise, you can try your luck at street parking. Restrooms are downstairs and clean. Service was fair. Nice sit down Peruvian restaurant in Pasadena. The area is really cute and family friendly. Street parking and parking lot around the area are available. Service is relatively quick, although we never got a drink menu that I asked for, which was a bummer since we were celebrating a friend's birthday. They have shareable appetizers, as well as decent size entree portions. The cuisine is hearty and filling. Food: -Jalea mixta: Fried mixed seafood platter. Great to share at the table. The fried fish was my favorite but the calamari was also tasty. There's also fried mussel and scallop which was nice too. - Mahi Mahi ceviche: Nice large chunks of fish. The seasoning was not overly sour and the overall dish was well presented and flavorful, served with Peruvian corn and corn nuts (?). Nice and refreshing. - Lomo Saltado: My favorite dish here. The steak was well made and fries were meaty enough to withstand the sauce but will absorb the flavor. Stir fried with onions and tomatoes and served with rice. Delish! - Seco con frijoles: Braised meat with beans and served with rice. I'm not a fan of braised meat but if you are, this would be a nice choice for you. Tender and good portion. - Tallarin con pollo: I didn't try this but was told it was good. Looks like Chinese stir fried noodles to me but maybe the flavor is more unique? On the way out, I saw a tower of alfajores and asked if I could purchase one to go. They only sell it in a box of 5, but the lady working there was nice and gave me a cookie for free. We had stopped by here randomly for lunch on a weekend since S was craving Lomo Saltado and liked it enough that we made a return visit to celebrate my sister's birthday. This gave us an opportunity to try a few more dishes. - Chicharron De Pescado: this was the surprise hit for the table! It originally caught our eye because we thought it was pork but kept the order when we realized it was fish. The fish bites were so crispy and yummy. - Ceviche (striped bass): they had various fish type available and the waiter recommended the bass to us. It tasted very fresh and came with a random assortment of corn, corn nuts, and a few slices of potato. Even though we enjoyed it, we mostly missed having chips to eat it with! - Lomo Saltado: the 1st time around we had it, it was super good. The 2nd time, it was still good but something felt missing in the flavor profile. - Arroz chaufa de pollo (chicken fried rice): this was the weakest dish for us overall because it was so incredibly salty! - Chancho al palo: we had ordered this during our 1st visit. The crispy pork skin was delicious but everything else on the platter was just okay. It's pricey but the portions are fairly large and perfect for sharing. We had ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees for our party of 4 and still had leftovers. Service was lovely but it is LOUD inside the restaurant. May be better to sit outside if you don't want to have a difficult time hearing your dining companions. We visited specifically for their renowned pet-friendly patio, only to find it closed for maintenance or construction, which was a major letdown. Fortunately, they had a few tables set up on the sidewalk just outside the entrance. Since we were a party of three, we decided to make it work. We were seated promptly, but then waited 20-30 minutes without any service, despite being right in front of the window where staff could clearly see us. Eventually, I had to go inside to let them know we were ready to order. A waiter quickly came out and took our order: two passion fruit drinks, a water, an appetizer, and three mains. We started with the ceviche, which was tasty and fresh but mostly calamari (which I'm not the biggest fan of). For my main, I ordered the lomo saltado, which was delicious, and they generously provided as much of the spicy green sauce as we wanted. However, the passion fruit drinks were a miss--they forgot to bring them out. By the time we noticed and mentioned it, we were halfway through our meal, so we asked to cancel them. The drinks arrived anyway, and they didn't charge us, which was a nice gesture but didn't fully make up for the spotty service. We had a great experience at Bodegón No. 69 with my girlfriend, father-in-law, and kids -- everyone left happy and full. The food was excellent. We ordered the Lomo Saltado, Bistec Encebollado, Pescado a lo Macho, and Milanesa de Carne, and every dish was flavorful and well prepared. Pasadena is underrated when it comes to dining- there are so many stunning restaurants in Pasadena and Bodegon No 69 is definitely one of them. I recently had dinner here last week and I was blown away. Everything about this place was delicious! It wasn't too packed the day we went but they do have a reservation option so I'd recommend to book one just in case. Kicked off dinner with a sangria and it was refreshing, and it included chunks of fresh fruit! For appetizer we ordered choclo serrano which was basically Peruvian corn (Cuzco corn) with fresh cheese, and marinated in garlic and butter. This was bomb and I haven't seen it on the menu at other Peruvian restaurants. And for mains we got a classic lomo saltado and arroz on pollo (fried rice with chicken). I can't decide which one I liked more- I liked them equally. The beef in the lomo saltado was tender and not too chewy, and they were so generous withe veggies. As for the chicken fried rice it was packed with so much flavor. I can't say enough food things! Such a unique dish. Best part was the portions were huge and I had plenty of leftovers for the next day Safe to say I was very excited to eat lunch the next day! Decided to go to dinner in Pasadena with some friends who reside in Castle Green. I'm due for hip replacement, so we didn't want to walk far. They suggested Bodegon, and having never had Peruvian food, we agreed. What a revelation! Luckily they knew which items to recommend, and we all shared everything. Started with Pisco Sours. Yum! A frothy fruity (but not too sweet because of the sour) cocktail. Then we ordered 3 appetizers to share. Papa A La Huancaina, which apparently is a very popular dish and no wonder. Soft cooked potatoes covered in a yellowish cream sauce. Choclo Serrano, which is huge Peruvian corn kernels steamed and tossed with cheese cubes. Loved it! And Causitas, which I think were mashed potato balls with shredded chicken in a sauce. Not exactly sure, but they were delicious. We shared two orders of the Lomo Saltado for our main, since the appetizers were fairly heavy. This was a good call, both in choice and size! The wok fried beef and onions was delicious!! It's served with white rice, and on TOP of French fries!! We left this cute restaurant, with wonderful friendly service, and enjoyed our stroll home. Out with a very good friend and wanted to try something new. I love Peruvian food and decided to try this place out. I'll keep this review short and to the point: They had one server for all the tables and as their host. When I say all the tables, pretty much all the tables were full and one guy running around. Not the best way to serve customers. When we got there the server was waiting on tables and there was no on in the front. It was a bit confusing but we waiting. We got seated shortly after and got our menus. The server came by 10 mins later to get outlet drinks and order. He was so tied up so it took another 10 mins for him to get us our drinks.. our food came out shortly after. The food was delicious. We didn't see our server again until he brought the check. Service: needs quite a bit of work. Server was very nice and did his best, but he should have had assistance. Food: delicious. I love Peruvian food and they didn't an amazing job. Overall: I would go back sometime if I'm in the area. I would recommend trying it if you're around the area. read more

Ceviche dishes are always good here but I always have trouble finding other dishes to like. Usually I just get the arroz con pollo but this time I noticed they offered a seafood version. Sadly the arroz was awful: 1) the rice was undercooked but somehow mushy, 2) they threw in super long (5"?) rubbery skinny octopus legs (made me completely lose my appetite), 3) included two large scallop shells but I couldn't find any scallop at all, 4) there was no flavor and it was very bland (and I usually like minimal salt). The waitress noticed that we weren't eating the dish and that we didn't want to take it home and I explained that it was very bland. They offered to remake the dish or make another dish but at that point we didn't feel like waiting and eating more food. We had both lost our appetites. The chef's excuse for the blandness was that it was because he wasn't able to add shrimp powder? bc of my allergy... which I thought was a pretty bad excuse. Having to pay the full tab (each dish is about $28-32 plus tax and tip) for a pretty horrendous dish is not a feeling I want to experience again anytime soon. read more

As someone who has visited Peru and tasted the amazing gastronomical riches in Lima and Cuzco, I must say I have been disappointed with 95% of Peruvian restaurants in CA.. Never did I see a fine restaurant in Peru serving 'Lomo saltado' (It's like Panda Express food in China.) First time at Bodegon No.69, I ordered my two benchmarket Peruvian items -- Parihuela seafood soup and chicha morada purple corn juice. The $25 soup is excellent, a large bowl of shellfish and white fish chunks, topped with a giant prawn in the middle (which, sadly, was half-raw, so had to be sent back..) It was eough to feed two hungry adults. The chicha morada, on the other hand, is disappointing. Too strong with cinnamon and chopped onion which, in all the chica moradas I consumed in Peru, were just a hint and not overpowering. Also the juice is room temps and not ice cold like they served in Peru. A waste of $8. My favorite Peruvian in SoCal are the "Inka Peruvian" in downtown Palm Springs, and "El Criollo" in City of Industry. L.A. could and should do better. read more
