This is my favorite restaurant in Central MA. I come here a few times a year to celebrate special occasions or to enjoy an upscale, but relaxed meal with a couple friends. I've enjoyed all but two things I've ever ordered here. The one time I really, really didn't like something I think it was just a matter of personal preference, but they took it off the bill anyways which was really nice of them to do. In my opinion the menu highlights are: - Fried Goat Cheese: simply delicious and I love to pair it with the pheasant sausage - Pheasant Sausage: great flavor - Vegetable Terrine: served cold, it's very refreshing, I like to order it with some of the hot dishes - Garlic, Spinach and Feta Dip: Great consistency and well-balanced flavors - Braised Rabbit: So tender and absolutely mouth-watering flavor - Crispy Rice Balls: Basic flavors, but done very well - Lamb Lollipop Chops: Absolutely delicious! The only two things I've tried that weren't my favorite: - Piquillo Rellanos: this is the dish that got taken off the bill, I found the burnt garlic crema to be very bitter and thought it overpowered all the other flavors in the dish - Duck Leg: normally duck is my favorite meat to order out, but I found the glaze overpowered the natural flavors of the duck meat read more

Finally stopped in here after about two years of saying we should, dropped in for an app and drink early on our anniversary. And I am very happy we did, the service was friendly and the food/drink was great. We sat at the bar and were taken care of by the lady working there who was extremely nice(very comfy bar seats by the way, never hurts). She talked to us and was engaging not standoffish and awkwardly ignoring you the whole time. My wife tried the house sangria which she liked and I tried the Estrella which I take is a slightly tastier Spanish version of bud light. So naturally I enjoyed that We also ordered some octopus and potato tapas both were very good. I'm usually not a fan of tapas, but I think the food was good and the prices were pretty fair. Bocado is right on par with Boston Tapas restaurants. I highly recommend it if you are looking for delicious tapas and great sangria. We tried the house red sangria, but the mango white sangria sounded promising as well. Loved the menu and variety. We'll definitely be coming back to try the other dishes. Cool Atmostphere - has a spanish feel and for a brief moment, you almost forget that you in the heart of Worcester. Excellent wait staff. We came in on a saturday night without reservations and the hostess was able to find us a table and placed as at the bar in the mean time. The bar was extremely comfortable, the bartender took the time to learn our names, and I would have been just as happy sitting there. Hm..I thought I wrote a review the first time I came here. Been here twice. The first time a year ago and then came back for New Years Eve. The first time, I ordered just tapas and thought it was pretty good. From what I remembered, the bacon wrapped scallop was delicious, shrimp burger was ok and I'm not sure what else I ordered. This time, I ordered the $75 dinner for party of 2. First course: you choose 2 dishes. We chose the fried goat cheese with honey which I thought tasted great. I like the texture of the cheese and the crispiness of the outer skin and the slight tough of sweetness to balance the taste of goat cheese. We also ordered the duck which I thought was ok. It was sliced a little too thin and was served cold. Both dishes were served with baguette. Next up: 5 tapas. We chose: Bacon wrapped scallop which was again the best tapas there. Scallop was perfectly cooked, not rubbery and the again, the bacon was nice and crispy. Dish comes with 4 pieces. Kobe burger was ok. Ordered medium rare but the burnt bun overcome the taste. Could not really taste the burger. Grilled fillet mignon was grainy. root vegetable hash tasted better. Vegetable Terrine is a cold dish. Layer like a lasagna. Interesting flavor. The down side was that it was cold. Salpicon de mariscos (seafood salad). Interesting cold dish. I could only taste/see the bay scallop and not really of the other fish. Next up: Paella (classic) By the time paella came, we were already full and had dishes of tapas packed already. We wanted to just taste it and the waiter swear by how great it'll taste when you reheat it the next day for lunch. Not really. We had a bite of it and I would prefer the rice to be drier. The chorizo was gross. I'm sorry, but the dish was just not good at all. Tried it the next day and could even hardly finish the little that I heated up. I'm not sure what it is but it was not good. My suggestion, stick to tapas and not order the paella. We were too full anyways. Finally: dessert: churros y chocolate We were too full to enjoy the dessert but I felt like the churros needed more sugar. When dipped in the dark chocolate, the dark chocolate was too much for the churros. It was ok. I still say my best churros experience was in Cabo. Nice and sweet and crispy. After numerous visits, I believe I have fully experienced 90% of the dishes at Bocado (the other 10% I have no desire to). What I recently have taken to doing is going in a group of 3 or 4 and then doing the "taste experience" for 2 and a pitcher of sangria. As a somewhat poor college student, it always ended in a good budget range and I always left stuffed..and none of the waitstaff ever minded. Sangria review: A lot of red wine and like two cherries. My favorite, try-worthy dishes: - fried goat cheese (YUM!) - smoked duck - bacon wrapped scallops - rabbit - paella de carne: HUGE plate with fried onion rings, yum! - flan Dishes I felt gypped on: - shrimp with garlic: Puhlease. Teeny shrimp, overcooked, tossed with industry olive oil. - ham & cheese fritters: Probably from some wholesale's freezer section. - venison flank: Could barely distinguish the venison from the eggplant. - trio dessert So...still a fun place to go, especially if you have never had a tapas-style experience. **I may not be the best person to review Bocado, as I'm biased having lived in Spain for a full year. Bocado's does an ok job of trying to interpret the Spanish dining experience in the American setting. There's a huge menu with plenty of options, all representing various regions in Spain. The tapas are true to size as they would be in Spain, however I think they're marked up for the presentation. Though pricey, each portion was good with the exception of one, the croquetas. I've never seen croquetas the color of crayola red and was a bit turned off by them at first. When I bit into one, it tasted fine, but the texture was a little too creamy for me. The sangria was very sweet and fruity, and could've used a dash of rum. A little bird told me that the wine is actually Franzia, which I cannot confirm, but it would definitely explain the sugar-content. The paella is OK... My friends and I had the clásico which had all the components that a typical paella should have. My one critique would be to try to evenly monitor the oil throughout the pan. It could have benefited from another stir or two. Some bites on the outside turned out really dry. I would say the redeeming factor is the service. Very friendly and kind, our waiter knew how to sell the Bocado experience for 4. I acknowledge that this is super critical and I've held Bocado to high standards. In reality though, I would go back and like to try their other tapas, as this is probably the only and best Spanish (Yes-from Spain) food you'll get in Worcester. The wide variety of tapas options make it easy to accomodate everyone's taste, and the great wine selection and cocktails make it a perfect spot for a GNO. We came here for our anniversary, and got the meal for two, which was perfect. Our server was great, and was able to suggest items to include in our dinner selections. We had the chorizo pheasant sausage and fried honey goat cheese, which were delicious. Our server told us that it's one of the most popular things on the menu, and having eaten it, I'm not surprised. Our tapas were roasted eggplant, mini shrimp burgers, bacon wrapped scallops and pork meatballs. All delicious. The seafood paella was amazing, and there was an unbelievable amount of it. For dessert, we had the flan, but we also had a coupon for free churros, so - extra dessert! Woohoo!! Eating here is an experience! This is a great place for a group or to catch up with friends. The food comes out slowly in courses and gives you plenty opportunity to share and interact. A group of 4 of us went here and go the Dinner for 4. It had the choice of 4 'appetizer' items, choice of 8 'main tapas' choice of paella and 2 desserts for about $135 or so (before alcohol). First off the menu is very extensive. Even though we had to choose 12 items, we were overwhelmed (in a good way). The menu at the restaurant is even larger than what they post online. So many choices, so many options and everything was delicious! Each Tapa was just enough to share between 4 people (ie 4 rice balls in a serving, 4 fritters). By the time the HUGE plate of paella came out we weren't even hungry for it! we didn't even touched it. dessert was the churros and Flan (Flan was a bit heavy- almost cheesecak-y, but I think anything would be considered heavy after all that food. ) Favorites were Fried goat cheese encrusted with almonds and honey; mozzarella stuffed crispy rice balls with basil aioli; bacon wrapped scallops with white truffle honey & red pepper flakes; chicken & vegetable fritters with red tortilla crust & honey aioli. The sangria was okay- not as good as other reviews claim that it is. I enjoyed the extensive wine list and really like how they had wine tasting flights or samples of a wine available for $2. Bocados is a Tapas place hidden behind Union Station in Worcester. When you actually find the place, don't let the Ferraris or Mercedes scare you off, this is a place where you can get some great snacks for a couple of bucks, or a kingly meal for about 20-30 bucks! The service at this place is solid - they seat you quickly, the wait staff get your drinks on time, and all the food is bought out in quick succession - not much more you can ask for from service! As for food - in a word... Delicious! They have a bevy of Tapas, and I have yet to order one I didn't like! Their honey baked goat cheese ($5), or their crab stuffed empanadas ($8) or their Saffron garlic Potatos ($6)... this list could go on! Paired with a pitched of mango sangria at $20, this is a place definitely worth visiting! And if you're feeling a bit more peckish... try a Paella - it is gigantic! It says its for two people... maybe two starving people who arent going to eat anything else! It could easily feed 4-6! And all that at $28 (my fave is the seafood... clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops.... it is amazing!!). This place deserves at least a solid 4 in my books... read more

This place is fun and there are many options on the menu! As someone who has been in Spain for a while and appreciates Spanish tapas, many hit the mark but a couple didn't - the Tortilla (de patatas) just tasted like a normal omelet and was not made the way it would be in Spain and lacked the caramelized onion flavor I was craving. That is normally my favorite Spanish dish, so I was a tad disappointed. The brownie dessert could've been a little better in flavor and moisture, and warmed up also. It was cold and crumbly. However, the potatoes asadas were amazing and delicious! My boyfriend also loved the casamiento. Our table was also a bit sticky and didn't seem cleaned. Came here on a date with my boyfriend. We ordered 3 different tapas: SALPICON DE MARISCOS (seafood salad), MEJILLÓNES SALTEADOS CON TOMATE (sauteed mussels), CIERVO DE FLANCO (venison flank steak). Since they are tapas, the portions are pretty small...but definitely tasty! Our favorite was the mussels...especially the creamy sauce. Yum. Each had very distinct tastes though. We also ordered the mixed berry sangria and the mango sangria. Both were good but the mixed berry was much better. Atmosphere was nice, dim lighting...very date like. Tables are a little close to each other though. We sat like two feet away from the next couple. Service was good too. The only cons I would say is the price. It's a little more on the pricey side especially for the small portions but overall, still recommended! read more

I am a big fan of tapas bars and this place does not disappoint. The sangria is a good blend of wine and fruit, not to sweet . . . which is just the way I like it. The paella is decent here, but if you want some really good tapas . . . here are my favorites. - fried goat cheese (ask for it with some of the smoked duck with balsamic glaze) - ham and cheese fritters - lamb lollipops - Mussels (cooked in a delicious mustard based sauce) The only thing I have ordered here that was not good was the mini shrimp burgers . . . everything else has been cooked and seasoned well. This place has a great atmosphere. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and we have had good service every time we have come. I've been to Bocado more times now than I can count and have gone with as little as one other person to a total of 12. More is definitely better as it allows you to get a taste of more things on the menu. Their waitstaff is particularly friendly and knowledgeable and are great at answering any questions you may have about the menu. Their sangria and wine selection is outstanding (I particularly recommend their wine flights, three smaller servings of wine that allow to sample a variety of their offerings at once). I particularly enjoy their fried goat cheese and other cheese options. There are a variety of tapas options, allowing you to choose from cold and hot dishes. Their pork with roasted figs and blue cheese is a personal favorite. There are not many tapas here I've tried that I didn't enjoy, however some are certainly more stellar than others. The lamb chop lollipops are also particularly tasty. I suppose I should also mention that, although their meat dishes are some of my favorites, they also have a number of very tasty vegetarian options. Bocado offers "tasting experiences" for 2, 4 and 6-8 people, although these assume that you have a monstrous appetite. The tasting experience for 2 is enough to easily serve 4 and includes a few selections of meat and cheese, a handful of tapas, paella or other entree and a dessert. Their paella, however, didn't really impress me much. For dessert, their chocolate cheese cake and flan were both very good, but I must admit I haven't tried many of the other dessert options. This weekend I popped my Worcester cherry. Despite living in Boston for almost 6 years, I had never done anything there aside from visiting the DMV. And Bocado was quite a nice intro to the Worcester scene. Ambiance is lovely...a great date spot. Service is relatively attentive but laid back. We enjoyed: * Good (STRONG!) sangria...flight of the house red, mixed berry, and sangria of the month (peach and pear, I believe) * Fried goat cheese encrusted with almonds and honey * Whipped garlic, spinach and feta dip with pita bread * Mozzarella stuffed rice balls * Chicken and vegetable fritters with honey dipping sauce * Roasted corn on the cob with chipoltle sauce The chicken vegetable fritters and goat cheese dishes were definitely the stand-out's of the evening. I ordered the fried goat cheese platter, olive plate, lollipop lamb chops, meatballs & the house sangria. I have never seen a group of 4 devour the food as quick as we did. I've been to Bocado countless times. We almost exclusively sit at the gorgeous bar. We try to go on Mondays because a) it's less crowded and b) Alia (sp?) bartends. She's so accomadating to our vegetarian diet and asks the chef to make all kinds of meat-free substitutions for us. I can't speak highly enough about her. I haven't been in a while; I hope she's still there. We love the deviled eggs, tortilla, different salads, rice balls and fried goat cheese. They have cheap cavas, which are always fun and drink better than their price. The cocktails are meh and the sangria is pretty pathetic, but I don't order that. It's either cava or tempranillo for me. All in all, we love Bocado! They hold a fair amount of wine tastings. Those are next on our list. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants west of Boston. In fact, it's worth the trip to Worcester for any metro-westerner. It's clear that the ownership really knows what they're doing...with 3 impressive restaurants in the area, they have combined excellent but unpretentious service with chic atmosphere and delicious (but reasonably priced) food. And there's complimentary valet parking, which is very handy. Michael, one of the owners, seems to be one of the most approachable and sincere restauranteurs I've come across, so it's a pleasure to patronize his establishments. Bocado's "wine flights" are a brilliant way to sample a few different wines before committing to anything particular (though when sitting at the bar, the friendly bartenders will often offer to give you a taste of whatever you like before you order, just to make sure you're happy with your selection). Their sangria doesn't rank at the top of my list, but their wine selection is very appropriate for a tapas menu so it's easy to forego. As for the food...I've had almost everything on the menu (except for the paella and the fried items) and I have very few complaints. In fact, the items I didn't love aren't even on the menu anymore! My absolute favorite is the smoked duck breast, but their seafood tapas are always delicious, the twin mini Kobe burgers are first-rate (order medium rare) and I've recently enjoyed the piquillo rellenos tremendously. read more

This used to be my favorite place. What happened to it? We had reservations for a party of 11. We arrived 15 minutes earlier, 20 minutes past the reservation time our table was still not ready. The host was very harsh when asking us to close the tab at the bar before we could be seated. When my boyfriend told her to seat us and he would take care of the tab, she rolled her eyes and told the other host to seat us. It was busy, so I understand a little wait. but after all that wait, we still had to wait about another 15 minutes for our drink order. By then we were ready to order our food, at which she replied that she was going to wait for the last 2 persons of the party to take the food order. We ordered a few tapas which came about 2 every 10 minutes. The clams and sausage tapa was awful. The sausage was uncooked. It took about 20 minutes after the first tapas were served for the chicken potato salad to come out. They have no complimentary appetizer. They changed the sauce they used to serve with the rice mozzarella balls. The rice mozzarella balls were mainly mozzarella, I could not tell if there was any rice in them. The overly priced sangria is a joke. Sangria is nothing like what they serve. Such a disappointment. Will not visit again. Sorry, guys but last night you lost 11 customers. read more

What more can I say that most others reviewing here have not already said? Bocado was everything I thought it would be. And, although it was my first time ever dining at a tapas bar, I knew just what to expect and just what to order, all thanks to contributors here. As it was my birthday, my sister, who was treating, let me choose what we would have for dinner. We both started with a glass of that fabulously refreshing white wine-mango sangria then moved on to the outrageously delicious food. I chose all small plates for the two of us to share: We started with the marvelous and most popular fried goat cheese and then when on to the bacon-wrapped scallops, pork meatballs and finally grilled lollipop lamb chops. We finished our delectable meal by splitting the flan. My sister complimented me on making perfect selections for the evening. Service by Brian and Demetri was courteous and helpful, if not a bit slow toward the end of our dining experience. We really couldn't fault either of them as the restaurant seemed to get very busy very suddenly and I believe they were the only servers waiting tables in the dining rooms (not the bar) at the time. Sure, Bocado is a bit of a splurge, but well worth it for special occasions or just a night to treat oneself to something a little different. We will most definitely be back to sample more of their delightful dishes. read more

While the servers are very nice the problem is all the tapas seem to come out very quickly which doesn't really give you time to enjoy them, you just feel compelled to eat quickly. We ordered the wine dinner to go (and an order of the fried goat cheese since I really miss that). Everything was packaged nicely, each dish was attractively garnished and most importantly, it was all incredibly delicious. The bread that accompanied the goat cheese and charcuterie was still warm, even though I had. 30 min drive home before we started eating it. The sangria and wine were delicious too. The paella was great too, although by the time I got to that I didn't have room for more than a few bites. (Just like going to Bocado in person) Felt like a feast, as well as a great deal for the price. We will be doing this again. read more

This is the perfect place for a larger group, or intimate date. The lighting is dim, decor is in tune with a sheik, cosmopolitan atmosphere, and the food is super delish! Being a tapas place, you can expect mostly small plates but they also offer a couple of larger dishes. For a tapas place, the portions are pretty big. Two people can have 4 tapas plus drinks for about $60-$75 on average. If you're going during a busy night (weekend) I might suggest a reservation, otherwise you could be waiting a while even though the place is huge. They have free valet parking which is nice considering there is no lot and the street parking is scarce. Last night we had a FANTASTIC server (Brenna), overly accommodating, and did not rush us through our meal. We started with a pitcher of sangria. The only restraint I have is I thought the sangria could have been a bit stronger -- had a mild watered down taste. Also (and this is my problem, not Bocado's) I am not a fan of Spanish wine -- so adjust your expectations of wine selection if you crave something from California or France. The menu is huge -- I suggest starting with a cheese board (we got the goat cheese with honey, manchego, and serrano ham). Amazing - tons of flavor - and you get a mini bread loaf with it. We got the calamari, rice balls, pork loin & polenta for food -- we were planning on getting lamb chops and kobe sliders but we were stuffed. Great place in Worcester where you can taste a number of excellent dishes from an enormous menu. I recommend avoiding the fixed dinner they have, and instead ordering individual plates from the tapas menu. Since the number and variety of dishes is so large it can be intimidating, so be sure to ask the friendly staff for suggestions. I recommend the lamp chops, calamari, and stuffed mushrooms. Although the menu is huge, I don't think I've ever had a bad dish. For drinks, enjoy everything but the hard cider, which is currently in season. It was horrendously bad, but all of the other drinks I've had have been fantastic. For a date (like the couple that was making out across from us last week) or a party with friends, Bocado is a great place. read more

My favorite restaurant ever! All the tapas are so good! I love the friend goat cheese and chorizo, the lollipop lamb chops and if you have the privilege, get the homemade cheesecake! The berry sangria and apple pie sangria are the best sagrias I've ever had. The service is great, very attentive and prompt. I just wish I had a bit more light to read the menu. read more

Last night my girlfriend and I decided to try Bocados for the first time on our anniversary. The restaurant came highly recommended from close friends and family. We walked in and the decor was beautiful! We were seated right away with our reservation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our server was Ashley. She was awesome! The menu, which looked very overwhelming, was easily explained by her. She made some excellent recommendations on what to eat and what to try for our first time there. The Bocado Experience for 2 was well worth it! It gives you a taste of many different things. We had the scallops wrapped in bacon to spinach with feta dip all the way to beef with fried goat cheese (AWESOME)! The food was very fresh and very tasty! Our main course was the paella de carne. This was by far one of the best meals I have ever had! The chicken, sausage, duck confit, and steak mixed with spices and saphron rice, could not beat it! There was a lot of food and we ended up taking most of it home because we stuffed our faces with the tapas. I had a beer with dinner, but my girlfriend had the mixed berry sangria and the mango sangria. Both of which were great! The wine selection is HUGE! There are tons to choose from and our server was knowledgeable with what wines to get with certain things. All in all, this was by far a great experience! Our favorite dish of the night was the fried goat cheese drizzled with honey. Absolutely plate licking delicious! The braised beef was beyond tender, it was melt in your mouth amazing not to mention the meatballs those were literally a perfect bite. You can't go wrong here. Are you a cheese connaisseur who is craving Spain's tastiest quesos? If so, you will love the selection at Bocado. But what's the one cheese that steals the spotlight? Queso de cabra con miel. Oh my goodness. This fried goat cheese with honey and almonds is so decadent and mouth-wateringly delicious that it you will scrape every last morsel off your plate in a matter of seconds. Once it's gone I promise you that you will seriously consider ordering a second portion of it. There isn't a single Bocado trip I've made without getting this cheese. (It's a necessity--or some might call it an addiction...either or..) It's the mainstays like the fried goat cheese, out-of-this-world sangria, and extensive tapas selection that keep me coming back to Bocado. The last time I went with friends we split a pitcher of the mango sangria and it was on-point--refreshing, mildly sweet, and flavorful! Concerning the tapas, it's almost impossible to go wrong. I've never been disappointed, but some of my favorite cold tapas are: the vegetable terrine, the whipped roasted garlic feta dip, and the traditional pan con tomate. For the best hot tapas I would recommend: the sauted shrimp, the stuffed eggplant with goat cheese, and the sautéed mussels (tossed with garlic, sundried tomato, basil, cracked black pepper, white wine & cream.) I really love this place. The Sangria is Delicious and refreshing. The service is fantastic. Servers and bartenders seem to know the menu inside out and are patient and willing to answer any questions, make suggestions and walk you through for a fantastic tapas experience I have had a lot of different things on the menu, usually trying to stick to the more traditional tapas. The duck is fantastic all the cheeses are great. The Serrano ham is great as is the chorizzo. Being a vegan (who eats fish), tapas restaurants are usually up my ally. This restaurant does not offer many options for vegans and even their seafood choices are limited. But the sangria is amazing, along with the service - making the limited choices taste even better! I had the gazpacho soup, which was a very large portion and had good spice. My next course was beet carpachio, and that was amazing!!! Lastly, I had raw tuna - which was ok, it wasn't as "fresh" as I normally find when they serve it like sashimi. The service was awesome! My waitress was on it and just nice. Hard to find sometimes in the Worcester area. Not many places have parking in Worcester, so this place is definitely a gem. I will be back! read more
