Visited Via Italian Table for a company dinner, and it was a great choice for a group setting. The location is easy to spot! Sits at an angle on the street and is well lit from outside. Once inside, the lighting shifts to a nicely dimmed atmosphere that still feels comfortable and easy to navigate. We had a separate area for our group, and it was spacious enough to move around and mingle without feeling cramped, which I really appreciated. We had a three-course, set menu, and I started with the chicken soup. It was light and comforting, a great way to warm up the palate, especially since it was cold out that night. For my entrée, I chose the chicken parmesan. The chicken itself was crispy and not overly breaded, which I liked. I did wish there was a bit more sauce on the pasta, but overall it was still a solid dish. Dessert was cheesecake, which was nicely moist and topped with fresh berries. Our dinner also included complimentary drinks, and the service throughout the evening was very good. The staff was attentive and answered questions easily which was great for this larger dinner. Overall, Via Italian Table is a great option for company dinners or group events, but I'd also stop back in on my own even if just for a light drink at the bar. read more

Although the food wasn't bad, there were errors that cannot be overlooked. Our reservation was for 8:30 on a Saturday. We were seated on time, which was nice. Our waiter was good. Unfortunately that's were the positives end. The restaurant in unbearably loud. They start you off with bread and unseasoned oil which is weird, no parmesean, chili flakes, oregano? Nothing, just olive oil. We started with calamari, which was mostly tenticles, I don't mind this, but my wife only likes the rings. My wife ordered the surf and turf, I ordered the FraDiavlo. The food came out in decent time. Which can be added to the good column. Upon delivery the first thing we noticed is that the chef cut the steak in half. This caused the juices to run out leaving it dry, the surf was 3 shrimp, which seemed like they are precooked and used for either cocktail or this dish as they were chewy. My guess is they are precooked, chilled and brushed with oil and herbs before broiling to warm them up. The FraDiavlo lacked any hint of chili pepper and I had to request chili flakes just to make it edible. It consisted of 2 scallops, 4 shrimp and 2 chick lobster pincher claws. In summary, under seasoned, over cooked food in a place where you can't hear yourself think. Plans on spending upwards of $200 if you want wine or dessert. We won't be returning as there are far better restaurants in the area. read more

First time visiting Via was for Valentine's Day dinner and I am so happy with our choice of having it here. The restaurant is bigger than I thought, there's a nice covered outdoor area which I think opens up in the summer which seems to be nice. We had a reservation at 6 and were seated immediately. Our waitress was right behind us and immediately filled our waters and introduced herself. They have a huge wine selection, we needed a few minutes to pick one. For an appetizer, we got the bolognese arancini. This was insane!! I think we picked the best app. The breading was unbelievably great, while the inside was soft with lots of flavor. I tried to scoop up as much sauce as I could with each bite. For meals, I got the chicken parm with vodka sauce. The portion was huge! The chicken covered the entire bowl. It was very crispy, I liked that it wasn't super thin. The spaghetti was a thicker noodle and it tasted super fresh. My boyfriend got the seafood fra diavolo which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also had enough for leftovers. Overall, we had a great experience here and it's a great spot for celebrations. read more

We really wanted to enjoy our time here. But the food and service were extremely disappointing. We each had a wine flight and the wines tasted stale and old. Our servers were less-than-warm and just wanted to turn our table as quickly as possible. Our food was bland and not seasoned and for $123, we will not return and prefer to spend our money at better quality venues. Via Italian Table is a beautiful restaurant, located on busy restaurant row on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. Worcester is the second largest city (by population) in New England. Via also offers very pleasant patio style dining in the summer, I really like the venue. Their service has always been very good, including this evening when I ordered takeout. They have some great menu choices and I decided on: CHICKEN PARMESAN $29.99 Lightly breaded, sautéed chicken breast served over spaghetti with marinara, melted fresh mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese with Tortellini. MUSHROOM FIORI $29.99 Fiori pasta tossed in a herbed wild mushroom cream sauce, smoked honey, porcini mushroom powder and parmesan cheese. (2) BURRATA CAPRESE SALAD $7.00 each (up charge) Fresh burrata mozzarella, heirloom tomato, basil, herb oil, and balsamic reduction. I waited at the bar sipping on a nice Austin Hope Cabernet, Paso Robles, 2022 ($17), which was suggested by the friendly and attentive bar tender. Service at the bar was excellent. The food arrived in about 15 to 20 minutes, just as the hostess estimated. Via is a quick 15 minute drive to my house. The food was warm when I arrived, but unfortunately it was disappointing, in great part, because it was very dry. The Mushroom Fiori had a nice flavor, but the pasta absorbed too much of the sauce, so we didn't like the consistency. And either there was too little sauce for the Chicken Parma and Tortellini, or the pasta absorbed too much, and the result was very dry and unappetizing Tortellini. The Chicken was pretty good, not as dry as the pasta, though some sauce would have helped that too. And lastly we get to the Burrata Caprese Salad. First of all, when I ordered this, I didn't realize there was an up charge, I was told a salad came with the meal (perhaps just a house salad). That said, had I enjoyed the salad, I would have forgiven the transgression. The Burrata with Balsamic Reduction was delicious!! But the tomatoes were TERRIBLE! The texture and flavor was really unappealing. Though not in season, we get vine ripened tomatoes or grape tomatoes which are usually pretty good, even during the cold month of January. These tomatoes tasted like cheap, bulk, left over supermarket tomatoes that I would never consider purchasing. I ate one bite and tossed the rest of the tomatoes. An interesting aside is that the Burrata Caprese Salad came with a cup of balsamic reduction on the side for the salad. I'm surprised more Italian restaurants don't provide a cup or two of sauce to help refresh their takeout orders (in the future I'm going to request that). My guess is that the two entrees would have been much better had I dined at the restaurant, though I definitely would have returned the salads. Three-stars for this visit. read more

We went in without a reservation and were seated in the enclosed porch, which was fine. It was not cold there which I feared at the beginning. But it is enclosed porch vibes. The waitress was very busy with many tables, but hustled enough to keep everyone happy. The food was good, but nothing really stood out. I had the grilled romaine head of lettuce that had some Caesar dressing drizzled on it. Mostly I was eating plain romaine lettuce. I had the seafood fra diavolo, which was good with a generous amount of seafood, but the spicy sauce was just ok. I assume their regular red sauce with chili powder added. I have had better. Came in for a girls night, and had been here a few times. Had a male waiter and a female waiter who was helping him. However, the female waiter who goes by the name Sarah came to our table shortly after and asked if we were ready for our entrees. It felt very rushed from her but we understood how a busy night can be as myself and my friend are both servers as well. However, Sarah did not show us any respect and made our table feel very uncomfortable. She was very condescending and abrasive. Not just me but my other two friends felt the vibe was completely off. We felt attacked for no reason and had no clue why we were being treated like this as we gave her absolutely no reason to. My friend kindly talked to the male waiter and told him what was going on. First--Tony, my waiter, was awesome. A lot of servers just don't give a shit. Tony was excellent and very attentive. Via has a great ambiance. I have gone here since my son was a freshman at WPI years ago. I ordered the sucking pig off the Pigfest menu and I was not disappointed. Wicked good. Cheesy gahhlic bread was off the chain too. Let's be honest ... the food here is always average, at best. As a frequent traveler to Italy ... it's not really authentic Italian, its more what I'd call Italio-American fusion. Which is fine, although I think that's not exactly how they see themselves. What sets Via apart is that the staff is usually fantastic and the atmosphere is classy and fun. Parts of it are weird ... like having to practically walk through a kitchen with slippery tile to get to the restroom. How their risk management people let this slide puzzles me. But overall, its warm, cozy, just dim enough and has that wonderful buzz you want in a restaurant without being overly loud. (Unless you are next to the kitchen/service area) In summer months they have a covered outdoor patio, which transports you to Europe. Like Europe, parking is a complete pain in the ass here. There are valets ... but I usually try to snag a spot in the 111 Chophouse parking lot, which the same company owns. The menu here has a good combination of meats, pasta and fish. A secret is that you can also usually order from the Chophouse menu and they'll bring it across. I usually end up getting the pasta and wind up underwhelmed. The filet is probably the best meat on the menu. Chicken parm is so so. Meatballs are so so. Bolognese is good. I've never ordered a dish I felt was absolutely epic here. The closest I've come is the proscutto wrapped mozzerela cheese. It is cooked so the prosciuto is crispy and the cheese is just on the verge of melty. Imagine a bacon wrapped scallop with cheese instead. The pizzas are grilked and are hit or miss ... sometimes good. Sometimes not. For a business dinner, special occasion or just for fun, you really won't find as nice a vibe. I have always thought The Sole Proprietor to be too crowded and cafeteria-like ... The 111 Chophouse is a little stuffy ... Via is like the 3 bears. Just right. While the food is more of the Olive Garden variety ... lots of cream sauces, over-salted, garnished like the early-2000's ... vs. the 4 or 5 simple but quality ingredients of true Italian cuisine, I can overlook that due to the experience. read more

Via is a beautiful restaurant-- no doubt about it-- and the service is mostly excellent (I've had some down experiences) but recently I went for lunch and I ordered a BLT-- I know, who orders a BLT at an Italian Restaurant? But that's what I felt like. Now what is a BLT? It's supposed to be crisp (hot) bacon, chilled tomatoes, fresh lettuce, a bit of mayo and some really good bread. Now a place like Via can't just do that but if you're going to call it a BLT you have to at least come close. This was inedible-- first bite, the Aioli sauce came spraying out everywhere-- the "thick cut Bacon" was cut so thin there was nothing thick about it-- and it was more like a piece of ham because there was nothing crisp about it. And to add insult to injury there were maybe three pieces of this raw bacon so you couldn't even taste it. When the waiter asked if I wanted a box-- I told him to take the sandwich out back and shoot it. It was without a doubt the absolute worst BLT I've ever had and will ever have because in the future I would send something like this back-- I didn't in this case because we were dining with friends and I didn't want to make an issue. After a short wait at the bar to access our table (for an 8 pm reservation), we were seated in a cozy semi-circle booth. It took a bit too long to get our ordered drinks, but the rest of the evening went great! Our waitstaff was attentive and checked in regularly. For a party of 5, the meals were delivered in a timely way. The food was delicious. Entrees come with either soup or salad and I enjoyed Chicken orzo soup. My herb-encrusted Halibut was wonderful, accompanied by asparagus in a tasty Parmesan coating and oven-roasted potatoes. We were pleasantly surprised and touched when our graduates were presented with gratis gelato. We also had some of the best Tiramisu I've ever tasted! The chocolate torta was rich but a bit dry. Ambiance & Decor: Interior is very beautiful and has a nice vibe. Made it seem like the food was going to be promising and good. Food: We started off with the caesar salad. This was the first time I was served salad with a whole romaine lettuce & had to chop by myself. I didn't mind it to be honest, just very different. For an entree, I had the bucatini with vodka sauce. I don't know... I wasn't impressed. Sauce tasted like it was from the jar & not flavorful... quite bland. For the price of their food, I had higher expectations. I will say, their espresso martini was solid. Probably the only thing I would come back for. read more

I've been here a dozen or so times for various occasions, and some of my favorite items include the meatball sandwich, chicken parm. Their fries are shockingly one of my favorite foods there. Six of us had dinner at Via last night. Extremely disappointing for a $600 dinner! The clams casino appetizer was burnt and overcooked. Three of the 6 entrees (seafood) had no flavor, the scallops were overcooked and the lobster risotto was tasteless as well. I met my BFF at Via Italian Table for lunch at her recommendation. The service was excellent and my meal was delicious. I had the Tuscan Herb & Crumb Crusted Haddock. The fish was very moist and there was a generous portion of roasted potatoes. The asparagus was standard. My friend enjoyed her meal, as well. We shared a dessert of 3 scoops of house made gelato & sorbetti (chocolate, coconut & limoncello)-so good! The portion was very large- we didn't eat all of it. We were not rushed at all. If you know Worcester you know this restaurant group is the best. They own sole proprietor, one eleven chophouse and this spot. All three are amazing and have great ambience. I like that they all have a different menus and all feel unique. I feel like something that is their main specialty at all three restaurants is their sauces. And we were craving Italian food so we decided to head to Villa for dinner. The food, service, and ambience were all excellent. I was really impressed with the wine selection. They have many imports, California, and Pacific Northwest reds to to offer, varied and price point. I think one thing that sets Via apart from other Italian restaurants in town is the ambience. The interior has a nice modern, open interior. There's a cool bar area to sit at and some of the tables face an open kitchen. Eating in this restaurant just has a sort of cool vibe to it - not what you normally experience in Worcester! I am not an Italian food connoisseur however, I can say the meal was excellent. Definitely check out their appetizers, they have some awesome choices. We will definitely be back, and this will probably be a go-to one visitors come in from out of town. read more

For a popular restaurant in Worcester, I expected a lot but got very little. The wait staff were pleasant, the ambiance upscale and the wine suggestions were spot on. But alas, I primarily go to a restaurant for a good meal and this is where they failed me. I have eaten my fair share of grilled Caesar salads and this was by far the worst. It was almost devoid of dressing and the chicken had an odd flavor that I cannot pinpoint but I did not enjoy. The croutons varied between rocks and rubber. I also sampled the pork meatballs and sweet and sour pork appetizers, and both had odd and pasty pork flavors that greatly disappointed me. I've been to Via many times and have never been overly impressed with their food. The ambiance is great as well as the wine selection, however. Last night, my friends and I ordered the grilled Caesar salad, chicken piccata and salmon over parsnip puree. The salad was a non-generous portion and "just OK," but the dressing had the taste, look and consistency of mayonnaise. The chicken piccata portion size was generous, but the chicken was over cooked and the sauce was gloppy and thick, like cornstarch was overly used. My salmon dish was the least favorite. At $33 (yes, $33.00), the salmon was dry, flavorless and sat on an even less flavored pool of parsnip puree. Literally no taste. After requesting lemons, and salting and peppering the salmon, it was barely edible due to the dryness. This is the last time I'll dine at Via. Such a disappointment and not nearly worth the money spent. read more
