I arrived at the Harvest Grille in Holden, MA at 6:30 PM last Saturday, November 1, 2025 to meet my friend for our 6:30 reservation. She had just arrived as well, and we walked up to the front desk together. We stood there for several minutes with no greeting, no "hello," no "someone will be right with you," nothing. We actually caught up on a few things while waiting! After about ten minutes, the owner finally came over. When I told her my name and that we had a 6:30 reservation, she looked at me and said, "Are you really Jennifer? Is your name REALLY Jennifer? Or did you just have enough time to look at my reservation list?" We were stunned. It felt sarcastic and accusatory, as if I was pretending to have a reservation. She then said, "Okay 'Jennifer,' right this way," in a snarky tone while seating us. I have never been treated like that in any restaurant, ever, and I've worked in restaurants myself. If it hadn't been a busy Saturday night with no chance of getting another table elsewhere, we would have left immediately. To be fair, once we were seated, our server was excellent, the food was very good, and the live music was really nice. But because of the way we were treated upon arrival, we will never return to Harvest Grille. It's a shame, because the kitchen and staff (aside from management) did a great job. Tonight I went to hear a Jazz group and sat at the bar, The music was so good , as well asthe calamari delicious and and a very nice glass of Pino, But i sat next to the most disrespectful very loud females sitting two seats to the left. So loud I could not hear the lovely music. These people thought that they were the only persons in the room! So animated all about their life !!! They did not even acknowledge the music ! The service was really great, but the food was just alright. I got a French onion soup that tasted a bit weird, but I thought it might've just been me. After we had left and gone home, my spouse tasted it and said it was rotten/had gone bad. Experience at this place was just weird. We only went here once about 6 years ago and have not been inspired to visit again since. The staff seemed nice, but off somehow. I can't quite put my finger on it. Like it was everyone's first day and they were a little confused or something. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. Plenty of people really enjoy the staples like meatloaf and potatoes with a dash of pepper and some salt. This is a place for that sort of thing, a filling and predictable meal. While the menu does have a lot of options, they're all pretty standard fare. Our meal wasn't especially flavorful. Someone in the reviews called the menu "innovative", maybe they were talking about the font. Maybe this place is great if it's on your drive home and you're looking for something to fill your belly or spend some time relaxing at the bar with friends. The Harvest Grill is tucked away in Jefferson Mass and has a phenomenal menu. The atmosphere and the staff is also very warm and delightful as you come into restaurant. The owner Susan is such an amazing person who cares about everyone of her patrons. She and the staff make certain everything is perfect and to our liking. Now for the food.... I had baked haddock with asparagus and a garden salad. The fish was topped with fine ritz crackers and butter and seasoned to perfection the asparagus was cooked perfect to my liking and the salad was so fresh! It was more than delicious, it was perfect. We've had some good meals there over the years, however our recent visit might be our last, unfortunately. I ordered fried scallops, which is one of my favorite meals. When the meals arrived I couldn't believe what was put in front of me! The fried scallops looked like salmon croquettes or jalapeño poppers. They were dark brown and oddly shaped. I took my fork to cut the first one in half, and the batter just fell off the scallop. The layer of batter was around 3/32 of an inch thick! The "New Bedford scallops were light gray in color, not very appetizing. That's all I will say about the scallops. The fries were good. They have two choices, train or find another cook. read more

This is our go-to when we are tired as hell from work and just want to go to a place nearby that A. We can get a seat quick B. Offer a home cooked-esque meal . There are some great items on the menu! The burgers are excellent, as well the fish and grilled steak. The salads are terrific too, even my meat N' potatoes husband loves the salads especially the casear which he claims the dressing is legit! I usually get the House Salad with either chicken or steak, either way delicious. Sometimes I get the Chick Pea Saute which is delicious and I order with a side of feta cheese. I have been coming here on and off for years and the food has always been very good. There are a lot of restaurants in Holden now and I frequent them also, but often they are noisy and crowded and sometimes the food isn't as good as Harvest Grille. I love the booth atmosphere in the dining room... great for catching up with friends because you are not on top of other people. The food is delicious, and I agree that the blackened salmon and Caesar salad are to die for! Yet I do branch out and get other dishes and haven't been disappointed. I recently was served a side of béarnaise that was mouth watering. They are so good with sauces. The service is also good. You can't go wrong here! read more

The Caesar salad is fresh you can tell the chef must make it versus from a bottle. Don't judge a book by its cover! My family and friends visited HG on Sunday 10/8/17 around noon time. Upon entering the decor of the facility is of an older era. You kind of get the sense that you're walking in to a library and when you see other people eating but hear no noise you feel like you should whisper. There were after all about 12 of us total. To be courteous we asked if we could be seated over in the bar half of the facility. We were seated in their private function room just off to the side of the bar area. Service was fantastic. Our waitress as well as the owner provided top notch care and service during our stay and being playful amongst us group of playful personalities. We had asked for some dinner rolls, which they apparently reserve for dinner but they brought us two baskets anyway. Food - everything we tried was delicious. The fried zucchini sticks were awesome with a delicious dipping sauce. For entrees everything as basic as a grilled cheese to soup all the way up to their chicken Parmesan special received rave reviews at the table. My Reuben was fantastic! Price: Extremely decent pricing for the amazing quality of food you receive! We would recommend checking this place out if you don't feel like emptying your wallet at the other big place in town! read more

Inexplicably horrible. I've been to the many different ownerships of this restaurant location over the past 20 plus years and Harvest Grille is quite honestly the worst of them all. Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic, the attitude of the manager (owner ?) that walks around talking to people was at best cranky. At the worst rude. She likes who she likes and treats everyone else like an uninvited guest. During Covid, it was apparent that she was more interested in politics than creating a nice atmosphere and delivering a decent meal. We went in during the existing rule mandates and she was actively promoting the fact that masks were "optional" even though they are not. Never seen her wearing a mask as she bops around the restaurant talking to people at their tables, laughing and making jokes. In turn, she was serving at the bar and had no expectations of her customers respecting any of the Covid restrictions either. Just in case the one star I gave this "grille" is misinterpreted as a political response- the food was terrible. The french fries were cool and limpy, the veggie burgers we got were tasteless and both were missing the cheese we ordered. Also the lights in the place were on full blast over all the tables. I mentioned to the waitress that the light was too bright and she spoke softly saying "I know, but that's the way she likes it." rolling her eyes and looking uncomfortable with having to deliver the information. Didn't eat any of my entree or soup, my fiancé tried to eat her entrée because she was starving and couldn't do it and nothing was done or suggested. I don't even know what to really say. I stopped in for dinner at the Harvest Grill with my partner last weekend. I had a grilled vegetable entree over brown rice with a pesto sauce. I had them add some tofu. The taste of this dish was outstanding. Sometimes vegetarian dishes can be overcooked. The red & green peppers, squash and other veggies were perfectly roasted. It came with a huge green salad. I choose the sumac vinaigrette dressing, yum! For dessert the flourless chocolate cake was delicious. It was Friday night while they had live background music. What a nice experience. Came here twice in one day, once with a small group at lunch time and later with a large group after 8pm. The service was really great both times and the staff did their best to accommodate all of us (and out needs) and make us feel at home. They even moved the wonderful musician they had playing in in the bar into the dining room so it was like having our own private show (he played requests too!). The food was well presented and yummy. We had mostly apps - tasty bruschetta with a sweet vinaigrette and melted mozzarella and hot wings and lovely cocktails. I didn't eat a full dinner, but at lunch I did have a few special requests for a diet I am on and they were so cool and nice about it. I saw they had gluten free options for bread and pasta also. Lastly, I left my rain coat in the bar and when I called to inquire about it I expressed my dismay since I had just driven home to Boston. Before I could even ask, Susan (so sorry if I remembered your name wrong!) volunteered cheerfully to mail it to me at no charge the next day (on her own time). I was really blown away by that. Kitchen staff, service members, and family are clearly NOT wearing masks to enforce laws and protect their customers and more over themselves. Great local spot. My husband and I have been wanting to try this restaurant out since moving to town. We went for dinner on a Saturday night, it was busy but not overly crowded. The parking lot is a bit tricky because there are not a ton of spaces but it looked like there was an overflow lot across the street. I had a glass of Chardonnay and my husband had a beer with dinner. The beer/wine selection was good with some local brews available. For dinner, I had the vegetable risotto which was amazing and the portion size was HUGE! I could barely even eat half and was excited to have leftovers. My husband had shrimp scampi which was also very good but could had used a tad more garlic (in his opinion ). Both of our meals came with salad or soup and we were also given warm rolls with butter to start. The service was great and our waitress was very attentive. There isn't a winner on the muddled menu, but perhaps most unappetizing is the angus burger, rewarmed on the flat grill under a half-melted slab of cheese and lubricated by a cherry onion marmalade that tastes like a handful of old onions sweated in a Jolly Rancher demi-glaze. read more

I'm not really sure how to describe this place. Though I kept joking with my husband it seemed like it was having an identity crisis. The decor was all over the place. It wasn't bad or anything. Did feel a little sparse for tables which made for a little empty feeling, but we assumed that's due to COVID/staffing and not putting all the tables back yet. We were sat right next to a guy playing music, who was fine, but it was way too loud to talk, so we had to be asked to move to a quieter location. Would have appreciated being asked if we wanted to be near the music/bar or in the quieter side before being sat. The booth bench my husband sat at wasn't anchored down, so when someone on the other side sat down or got up the whole long booth moved a LOT. All that made for an awkward visit. The service was AMAZING. We eat out a lot and haven't encountered servers that were as friendly as these women all were, especially now post COVID. The menu was all over the place and overwhelmingly big, not sure what kind of cuisine they are going for. The food was mostly all good. My salad had an insane amount of radishes on it, probably an accident because my husbands was fine. So no big deal. Everything we ordered tasted great and was really enjoyable. Buffalo wings, chicken piccata and Pasta Agra Diavalo. However, the Buffalo wings were not Buffalo wings, it was more like a sweet mustard sauce served with ranch, not blue cheese as the menu states. The chicken piccata didn't taste like any chicken piccata I've ever had. Very garlicky, no butter or lemon flavor either. We really enjoyed both dishes, just didn't s taste like their namesake. They are close by, we may go back, but nothing about this place had me anxious to do so. I think if they paired down their menu, properly described the food, stuck with one cuisine, and cleaned up the decor for a better put together atmosphere, this place could be amazing! read more

We have been loyal patrons for three years now. The food is delicious and the staff is very pleasant. Today is August 25, 2020, we have a choice of going obvious different restaurants and we chose to go back there because of how much we loved it.Walked in there the hostess and the two waitresses were the only ones who had masks on. We proceeded to our table with our masks on and common sense you can take it off are you sitting. Every patron that came in there was not wearing a mask ,except for us and a few others.I was appalled and very sad about this. I saw the owner not wearing a mask and going around peoples tables and not enforcing others to wear them including the bartender. We will never frequent this restaurant again.SHAME ON YOUR SELF RIGHTEOUS ACTS! If we end up with Covid and it work in the medical field... I know exactly where I'm gonna be pointing finger. Tried HG when they 1st moved to Jefferson. Wasn't overly impressed, found it to be loud, service spotty Food was good, not great and not good enough to return. Granted it just opened and we always said we'd give it a 2nd chance. The 2nd chance came when we got a coupon for a free app. Sadly we found the service spotty again. Although there were plenty of staff roaming around we stood around for a good five minutes before we were greeted. Only to have the young lady say she'd be right back. Why not sit us then? There were plenty of open tables. Upon seating we did notice the noise level was lower. However, they accomplished that by hanging foam insulation for A/C's. Not very attractive. Our server took our drink order and we were served 2 rolls in basket, no plates...which we had to ask for. Ordered our meal...Crab cake app, salads, fish tacos and sirloin strip. The apps took some time. But worth the wait. The crab cake was awesome. Not at all bready.... just a great flavor. After our dishes were removed our entrees quickly followed. WAIT... where's our salads. Oh you didn't get them, I'm sorry. Ok I get it, it happens, but I wish our server had been more on top of our meal. Once the salads arrived we found them to be over dressed. A wet mess. My sirloin was good made to order, not much more to say. Rather boring. Did like the fries. My husband enjoyed his fish tacos. They looked great. So all in all... not sure we will return. To cap it all off when it came time to pay the check the server came to out table with the credit card reader and knelt down at the table waiting for us to add the tip and sign off. We were excited when the Harvest Grille announced they were moving to Jefferson, right down the street from our house. However, after dining there we're no longer excited. The parking lot is too small for the restaurant. We got the last space in the lot, but half the tables in the dining room were open. Our server was prompt to get our drink order and take our meal order, answering our questions ably. The kitchen was running slowly, and it took quite awhile for our food to arrive. Portions on the entrees were a bit small for the price. The food was OK, but nothing special. The real problem started as we ate. As we reached about the halfway point of our meal, our server asked if we were going to want dessert. It was odd to be asked that while we were still eating our entrees, and we declined. She immediately brought our check and left it on the table - something I haven't experienced before mid-meal. She then proceeded to check in about every 3 minutes to see if we were done and wanted our plates cleared. As my son literally took a bite of his cheeseburger, she said, "Are you still working on that?" She cleared my plate with food still on it, without even asking me if I was done. She was gone before I could tell her I wasn't. She then checked back in 2 more times to see if we were finished and she could take the plates. I have never been rushed like this in a restaurant before, and it certainly killed the enjoyment of the dining experience. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so it wasn't that they needed the table. To top it all off, she overcharged us, so we had to hang around to get the bill fixed.
