Cheap sudz Bring cash…read moreTake it for what it is Not for every Yelper - you're not in the safest haven, so be aware. If you look sharp and act right, this is a solid dive with DIRT CHEAP SUDZ. Beyond that, there's pool and some very distinct atmosphere. You're here for the standard taps at rock bottom prices, ya heard? Don't come calling for craft or cocktails (well, maybe a rum & Coke). Have dollar bills ready, maybe deal some cards if you keep it on the level, rack 'em in the billiard area next room over, and peep the ship room itself in the back. (It was empty and dark when I visited, but I walked around anyway - felt like I wasn't alone, so bonus points for that creepy Amityville Horror feel.) I don't claim to know legit, hardcore Worcester, but this seemed like a small slice of it at the base of Green Street. See pics for ambience and decide accordingly if this is your cup of 'Gansett. (If you can imagine the 2010 edges of Washington DC's H Street district, you're in the ballpark.). *FYI: Four police cruisers passed by me semi-urgently at my Lamartine@Harding parking spot even as I drafted this review. But the bar? I got a kick out of it.

It's called the hotel Vernon though. Lol. But a great place good local entertainment most nights.read more

Music= 5 stars, venue= 4 stars, food= 1 star, drinks= 4 stars, service= 2 stars, location= 1star…read more We've been here several times specifically to hear bands. It is located in the 'hood...feels sketchy just parking and walking in, even with the street lights on. Something about the trash blowing like tumbleweeds while police sirens blare in the background along with the quiet bump of hip hop just makes it feel so poetically grimy. Inside also feels grimy, which I guess is what some look for in a dive bar. (I personally differentiate "seedy and understated" from "grimy to the point of giving me the heebie jeebies".) There is dusty taxidermy all over the walls, some of which are wearing outfits- funny, I suppose, but just makes me feel uncomfortable to think of the globs of dust flying off into my drink or food. But before I ever noticed this, we had ordered a couple beers and a cheese plate. The beers came quickly, but the keg was definitely tapped- tasted flat. On other occasions we have had a decent mixed drink- the coca cola tastes normal and the ice to drink and liquor to mixer ratio is normal. The cheese plate- why they described this as a cheese plate is beyond me. It was one type of cheese- cheddar I think, with saltines still in the sleeve with a soup cup full of spicy Chinese mustard; some regular white onion slices were also piled sadly on the side. Pretty hilarious in all honesty! On another, busier night we were there and sat outside, which is pretty chill. Except that the staff rarely comes to clear old drinks so some tables are filled with empty glasses, making it so that no one can sit there. When you need a refill, you have to go back inside and shoulder your way through at the bar, which will have just 2 bartenders when they're slammed, one time (of the half dozen times we've been) I saw a bar back behind the bar helping. Needless to say, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink at the bar on a busy night. The crowd is definitely mostly white (every time we have been, at least), which could be considered odd? The music is always either honky tonk, old people jazz, or folk music, and the musicians are always white. Overall, a fun place to hear live music (especially if you're white) and get a drink. Would not recommend for an extended stay or to get food.

We came twice during our last week. The first time we met up with a work friend and had a great time shooting the shit in the back. The second time, we came for a drag show that happened to be during one of the heat waves (the entire summer seems like a perpetual heat wave) and it was so fucking hot upstairs that we couldn't tolerate it and went back downstairs. If it is a particularly hot day, think twice before chucking over that cover. It is a very cool spot that is worth your patronage.

Ohh no, if you are going to have a drinking night in Worcester, this is going to be the place you start out at or where you find yourself at the end of the night! Its always dark, has oNE pool table and 2 arcade games. If its not jam packed they always have a game of beer pong going in the back corner. I always end up standing because the stools are only so comfortable for so long.. SO many good memories here and not one of them includes paying a cover, even on an event night. I had my 2nd legal drink at this place "(lets not talk about the first) and Have even puked in a cup and gave it back to the bar tender ( who was super sweet and understanding) The owner of this place is always trying to get rid of Celtics tickets for like almost nothing. In the past few years they have made some updates, like a few more LCDs and having more contests where you will cools stuff. They always have 2 dollar shots ( select kinds) and the staff has always been good to me. Never give you a hard time about your ID, fairly fast service and they KNOW how to make a drink better than a bunch of places you could be paying more!! Place is definitely the 2nd student union for most of the area colleges. Yes, you will see lots of bros and floozies from the surrounding schools, but this place still consistently attracts the locals ( like yours truly) It looks like your gran dad's "nobody in here has bathed since last month" type of bar on the outside but its one of the many hidden gems of us young pioneers of Worcester.
