We were driving back from ME and needed to get some food. I of course refused to go anywhere more than 20 minutes off our current route. This place was right off the main road. Easy to find and good amount of parking. Though it was pretty packed for a Tuesday at lunch. And someone had a birthday they were all singing, and it was joyous. Got a Greek salad with grilled chicken over it and it was very tasty. Police was also only 30 some bucks for three people. You can beat that. Men's room doesn't lock. A past local favorite, this place has gone down hill over the past couple of years. To borrow a quote, Herbies has become like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. Originally loved for consistency, the food may or not be fully cooked. Portions not only vary from day to day, they also vary from plate to plate at the same table. Soups and chowders may or may not be the same if you have a favorite. Sandwiches sometimes are soaking up liquids from cole slaw served on the same plate. Gave a two because the woman that took the order and gave me the pick up order was very nice. It was a Monday so maybe the seafood was left over . I ordered the fish tacos for the first time. They were so tasty with a side of the crispiest sweet potato fries I've ever had. Herbie's is a well known place serving up every day classics from fried fish to shepherds pie. This is my 2nd time and was I wasn't disappointed. Parking can be a little tough at lunch time but just park in the greater area and don't block a driveway and you will be fine. There is nothing special about the decor. I was seated in front of the vacuum cleaner but what it lacks in aesthetic it makes up for in cheap eats. Service is decent. Friendly enough and fairly quick. The food: I had a buffalo chicken salad. Very standard with just lettuce,tomato, carrot, shredded cheese,scallions and chicken. It was good. I needed extra dressing and was brought it very quickly. Diner number two got the fisherman's platter. It was a good amount of fish, clams, scallops and shrimp with fries and coleslaw. It tasted fresh and delicious. Diner 3 ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Nothing special here just a typical wrap. Sweet potato Fries were $1 up-charge but it was clear on the menu. She enjoyed her meal. Diner 4 was visiting after recently moving out of state and really wanted a New England hotdog. She was not disappointed. She got 2 with the works on grilled buns and fries. She was very pleased. We shared onion rings. They were ok a little dry and seemed like they could use another minute in the fryer but they were eaten all the same. The prices are super reasonable and the portions are good. Herbie's is a must if you are looking for a home cooked type lunch. read more

A great local dive with a large selection of seafood. If you want to go where the locals go, this is the place. It's a bit loud, but the food and service are great. Update: went back a couple of days later for more clams. Still great. But the scallops were really off the second time. I'd call them hit and miss. The haddock and clams were still fantastic. We came here after a halfway point for vacation and you Yelpers helped us make our decision. You all did well. Herbie's is like a run down Cheers. It's a bar that seated all of the grey-haired seniors at lunchtime drinking to their heart's content and having their "epic" conversations of the topics of the day. We were told to sit anywhere open, and the air conditioning was on full blast. One patron had to move tables because the wall unit ended up dripping on them. We picked a four-top and very friendly Ava helped us out with quick service. The opening clam chowder was outstanding. Very thick, creamy, no overdone clams, and lots of potatoes. Came with a small pack of crackers. My clam roll was supposed to be full bellies fried clams with fries. Not all were, they weren't too plump, but they were crispy and tasted wonderful. Fries were just as good. The dish came with tartar sauce, and I asked for cocktail which they said they had, but it never came. My wife had a chicken strip salad and my kid had a chicken strip wrap. But, the kitchen instead sent out two wraps and since my wife thought it looked good just kept her wrap instead of getting a salad which was offered by Ava. They both really enjoyed the wraps. My other kid had a 3D burger which comes with fries and onion rings. He asked for medium but it came out well. But again, he really liked the taste and it was presented like a club sandwich. Overall, we're more than happy to support a local business. The bathrooms were something to be desired. It's run down, but the locals seem to love it and we'd come back. Polar drinks, no Coke or Pepsi. And the Polar facility seems to be located across the street. 3 stars from my whole family and 4 from me, so since I'm writing this I'm giving the 4. Thank you to everyone who's ever suggested Herbie's. I read years worth of reviews/comments before trying out new places and this time the positive comments couldn't have been more accurate. I had the Friday special fish and chips (baked with sweet potatoes and coleslaw). The service (a major one for me), the flavor, the simplicity, the portion, the price, the freshness of the ingredients. Just thinking about it makes me smile all over again. I never thought I'd appreciate no background music while eating out but afternoon buzz from the conversations around the room was the perfect ambience to this experience. And it would be perfect for a meetup with friends. It was so simplistic yet so good. Parking was full by 1PM on a Friday so that might be the only downside but it's well worth it. read more

Been here twice! Never disappoints. Service is fast, seafood is amazing. Whole Belly Fried Clams with extra Tartar, I've never tasted anything quite like it. I have the lobster roll which is traditional Maine lobster roll served cold with butter. You can only get the lobster roll on certain days, one of which is Monday. First time back here in over 2 years. Could instantly tell that it was under new ownership. Familiar faces no longer appeared and the parking lot gave no indication of the scarcity of humans inside. But the thing that sold me on never returning is the fact that the once beautifully formed, hand-made, burger patties no longer exist here. Wow! I stopped in today for a quick lunch today. I ordered the meatloaf dinner, with garlic green beans and mashed potato. As you can tell from the photo, I received two generous slices of absolutely delicious meatloaf. The quality of the food was outstanding. The server asked me how I liked my meal, and I told her that I would order this as my "last meal". I forget the price, but with a large diet soda and tax, it came to around $14. Not bad for one of the best meals I have ever had! Take my advice, check out Herbie's, you won't be disappointed. Visited with friends last night. I had never been and it always looks so busy when I pass by on my daily travels. Upon entering we could sit wherever we wanted to so choose a high top. It took a minute for our waitress to come over but when she did she got drinks out to us very quickly. My own drink was quite stiff, which I can't complain about! We all ordered fried seafood. I swear she took our order, went into the back and walked right out with it all. Very quick service but I didn't receive what I had ordered. I asked for fried shrimp and scallops but got fish and chips. I didn't complain because it wasn't a big deal and I like fish and chips anyways, but the scallops from another table looked delicious! The fish was fried but wasn't a classic beer batter. Fries were ok, nothing special but came out hot and tasted good with some salt and ketchup. Fish was cooked perfectly and coleslaw was good, a little peppery. Atmosphere was nice, definitely a "townie" place and it was decently busy at 7 when we showed up. We left around 9:30 and there were still a handful of people hanging out. I docked a star for service. While our waitress was timely getting us drinks and food she was definitely not what I would call friendly, and even though we continued to order some drinks and the place wasn't packed she seemed to be giving us the nudge to leave. We had to check what time they closed because we thought maybe we had over stayed our welcome. They close at 10 and it was 8:45/9pm at that point. We had one more drink and asked for the check. She gave us less than a minute to fill the check out, came back and physically grabbed my friends out of her hand before she had even signed it, I told her I was waiting for my turn with the pen to fill mine out and she huffed away... Overall great vibe and food was good but felt our service was a little pushy and un-personable for a home town feel bar and restaurant. I was in town for training and a few coworkers said Herbie's was a local favorite. We went around 6 or 7PM and the place was packed. We were sat right away but we got the last table. I ordered the scallop dinner and got it baked instead of fried with a double order of green beans as my side. I'm not sure what they put on top of the scallops before they put them in the oven. It might have been breadcrumbs. Whatever it was there were a few parts that we crisp with some texture, the rest of it was mushy. It looked a lot like oatmeal or rice pudding. The next time I'm in town, I think I'll try out some new spots before I give them a second chance. read more

Hubbie+ I just ate here. Horseshoe shaped dive bar with lots of tables too. Very reasonable prices for volumous amount of lightly, perfectly breaded seafood-good sized meals. We got a whole belly clam dinner+ a Fishermans platter. All their non seafood meals equally large portion. Food came out fast, although very busy@1pm on a Thurs! Excellent efficient service. Such an under rated hidden gem! Always pasted here on the way home when I was younger in the school bus and was curious to go here but never did. Fast forward 10 years later I stopped in for a takeaway meal. Super busy on a Friday evening, lots of local and groups of people. Bar, high top tables, and group booth style too. Super packed... but must mean that the food is well received? Given that it was summer, they had a few seafood options. I recall seeing their seasfood platter on Worcester Eats Facebook page and I had to give that one a try. So I ordered the fisherman's platter and it came with a myriad of juicy fried jumbo shrimp, scallops, WHOLE BELLY (yessir you heard that right) clams, and haddock. Came with fries and coleslaw as well! Everything was seasoned really nice. Fries weren't hand cut and were probably frozen, but it did it bother me as the seafood was stellar! Tartar sauce was awesome too- homemade and seasoned well and was not too acidic. For 25 bucks you can't beat the price for what they give you either. Was able to sit right away even though it was a bit busy. Waited about 8 minutes to have a drink order put in. Drinks came out fast we put our appetizer and dinner order in when drinks came. Then we waited approximately 25 minutes for appetizer. It was initially given to the wrong table directly behind us. Those people said they did not order it. The appetizer sat there for 10 minutes before waitress took it back then gave it directly to us!! Really a big no no!! Then our main meal came out 5 minutes after. Waitress gave me a refill of my drink but never asked if my wife wanted a refill. She seemed to be completely over whelmed. Food was decent but nothing to special. The mens room ranks as worst I've ever been in. One urinal and one toilet. No wall between toilet and urinal so you have to lock the door if you want to use the toilet for privacy and that means nobody else can use the bathroom. Food is good but some of the staff are not too good.. Mostly old timers during the day. I go here for a beer because its near my house and usually not crowded when I go. I have been wanting to try this place for years. I actually stopped there about 7 years ago with a friend after the movies and it was packed so we went somewhere else. Many people told me how cheap it was and they have big portions and now that I think about it no one ever mentioned that the food was really good. Well yesterday we ended up with a free Friday afternoon so I got onto Yelp and started looking at my saved collections of places to try and places in our area. We decided seeing it was early that we would finally be able to get into Herbie's. We arrived just before 4pm and the parking lot was already packed! We ended up parking in a nearby lot and walking over. There was a few people waiting for tables when we got in, but we were quickly informed by the person in front of us that there were tables open in the bar area and we could grab one of them if we wanted. We grabbed a high top table in the packed bar area. Our server quickly came over and took our order for drinks and food right away. They seemed to have a great selection of seafood on Fridays and we both ordered a bowl of clam chowder and baked haddock dinners which came with rice pilaf and butternut squash. Our chowder was served immediately, but I really don't think it was homemade. It was obvious the potatoes in it were canned, but it did have a lot of pieces of clams in it. It was pretty bland. Our dinners came out as soon as we were done our chowder. The dinners looked awful. First of all I'll say that the fish was totally dried up (microwave?), it was nasty dry with dried up bread crumbs on it. The rice pilaf was crunchy and the butternut squash had so much cinnamon in it my partner couldn't even get the taste of cinnamon out of his mouth with beer to wash it down. It was a nasty meal. I guess if you only care about the price it's a bargain. I will say our waitress was good. She was friendly and efficient. Our meal with 2 bowls of chowder, 2 dinners, one beer, one Mikes lemonade and tax came to $38.42. read more
