Found this place on Google maps on the trip home. Can't beat country cooking so decided to give it a whirl. Very cute inside qith a game of old collectable items on the walls and hanging. The folks inside sound like I do... think southern NC accent and just good down home friendly folks. The food was delicious! We had the fried chicken for our meat. The batter was SO good.. crispy and salty. The chicken was done and didn't hold grease under the batter. I had black-eyed peas and could taste the ham hock. The macaroni salad wasn't really mayo based to my surprise and was delicious. We were so happy we found the spot on our backwoods drive home and felt welcome. read more

This restaurant has been around for close to 45 years, with new ownership coming in around 2000. The new owner, Ricky Bullis, had cooked at Fuzzy's BBQ for nearly 30 years, and he pretty much continued the nature of the food at this place - country cooking - morning, noon, & night. This very much is a locals place, and as typical a small town Southern diner as you're likely to find. The people are all very friendly, and the service is excellent. The diner fare includes Southern breakfast items served all day long. meat & 2 daily specials (including Fried Chicken everyday), and a nice variety of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. I had "bucket listed" this little place a few years back, after reading an article on the restaurant in Our State Magazine. I love trying these small town Mom & Pop places, almost always finding interesting people, and usually solid, if unspectacular, food - much as was the case here today, with much less than expected on the food side. The restaurant is a small, worn place in the downtown area, with both street and lot parking available. There is a very definite NASCAR theme, much of it focused on Dale and Dale Jr - pictures, posters, etc. There are 2 rooms available for seating, one with booths and stools at the counter, and the other with a number of tables. The first room was completely full when we arrived, mostly late breakfast eaters, it seemed. We tried the Fried Chicken ($5.50) with Mashed Potatoes and Pintos, & the Beef Tips (over priced at $9.25) with Rice & Gravy and a salad with house made Thousand Island dressing. Bread choices were cornbread and biscuits. And since that have a hot dog on the menu, one was ordered. The Fried Chicken (2 pieces) was simply awful. It was obviously not freshly cooked this day - the taste was bland, the skin soggy, and the center cool. The Pintos were just ok (also under-seasoned), and the Mashed Potatoes were excellent once butter, salt & pepper were added. The Beef Tips had little real flavor, and were dry since they were not served with gravy as I expected. The Rice was short grain, and tasted like Minute Rice, with a small amount of thin, watery gravy. The salad was nice, and the dressing was excellent. Both the biscuit and the cornbread were very good. The Hot Dog ($1.65) was excellent, with a nice tasting, meaty chili, and it is probably all we'd re-order if we were to return. Nice folks, great service, but very ordinary, poorly seasoned country cooking. read more

I heard this place was good from friends an family so me and my husband stopped by to get lunch, it's clean they brought our food fairly quickly and everyone was really nice! I had chicken tenders with fries and he had a burger with fries with mozzarella sticks. I'm a very picky eater and I loved the food here so did my husband! read more

What a great nostalgic diner, kinda like going back in time. The friendliest cooks and wait staff, wonderful people. Fun place to hang out, talk with locals. Good home-cooked good. Ambiance is fun and the people who run it are warm and welcoming. Great place to stop in. read more

I wanted to like this place but my experience was not OK at all. I got burgers for take out. First thing is they do not take credit card. They do not mention this when ordering. I had to run out in the rain to my car and get some cash from my wife when I picked up the food. I had high hopes for the burgers as this place used to be called Bob's Burgers. But I was disappointed, but I am giving them a review based on diner food quality. We ordered two Cheeseburgers, one double cheese burger, 3 sides of fries, and mozzarella sticks. No marina available for the mozz sticks. I take the food home and we are short one side of fries. I had the double cheese burger is was very greasy. All over the outside of the bun, top and bottom. It was disgusting. It had not taste at all not even the cheese. The fries we did get were under cooked and some still raw. I hate McDonald's, but I would rather eat their burgers than these. Only thing that was ok was the mozzarella sticks. What I got was way less than diner quality food. I'll try them again. Maybe get something else from the menu. read more

Really good supper. Hubby had chicken livers. They were cooked just like he likes then. Crispy outside. Coleslaw was sweet. Sweet potato casserole was sweet and yummy. Lemon and pecan pies were great. Staff was very friendly. Can't wait to go and try breakfast! read more

This is a subshop that has a neat atmosphere. Sit by the fryers or in the next room over at one of the tables. Their kids meal included 2 chicken strips and a 1/4cp side, which I think is sparing even for a kid, but the mac and cheese was home made. Their cheese steaks are awesome. Go for the Bob's Burger, which will be grilled by one of the owners! This is one of the best Cheeseburgers in the state. You can't go wrong at the local chatter-box restaurant, which is owner-operated! Finish it off with Chocolate-Delight for Dessert. read more

My wife and I love trying small town diner style restaurants and I pass by this one almost every day so we decided to try it out this week. The decor and casual atmosphere was everything you'd expect to see in a local diner. It was crowded because we went around lunch time. The menu had plenty of options for us. We both had breakfast since it was our first time, we love breakfast, and figured it was a hard meal to screw up. Boy were we ever wrong. This meal now holds a spot in our top 3 worst meals ever! I could accept it if we were getting it at the END of breakfast being served, except that they serve breakfast ALL day! My wife got scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, sausage patties, and biscuits. The hashbrowns were clearly the square frozen kind, the biscuits were small and bland, and the sausage, touted as fresh on the menu, had obviously been cooked hours before and reheated when we ordered because it was rubbery and overcooked. I ordered similarly, but got lumpy lukewarm grits, and what was supposed to be smoked sausage that looked and tasted like fried hot dog! We figured we wont go here again after this.
