After checking out Nine Lives Bookstore next door, I decided to pop into Bobalicious. I told the guy behind the counter that it was my first time ever stopping in and he was so super friendly. He recommended the San Antonian which is an interesting strawberry and avocado concoction. When he first told me what was in it, I'll admit I was skeptical, but he assured me that it was their top seller and that the avocado only lent a smooth, creamy texture to the drink. I figured, what the hell. So, the drink was definitely interesting. The tapioca balls were plentiful and were almost too much. There was a tapioca ball in every sip. I liked the drink okay, but it was a bit on the pricey side for what I basically can sum up as a smoothie with chewy tapioca balls in it. Cool atmosphere here, nice artwork and couches, really sweet employees. I'm not sure if or when I'll be back because it's far from where I live, but worth a try. read more

Right off the highway, this is a conveniently located shop. The inside is pretty comfy with plenty of couch seating and a few table&chairs. They have wi-fi, but it can be a bit glitchy and slow. Service is pretty standard; the workers are nice enough. They do play some pretty loud music that ranges from classic rock to country (neither of which are my favorite). **TIP: DO NOT use the bathroom. You're better off holding it in because the bathroom is pretty awful and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. (Pee on the ground, on the seats, smelly, trash on the floor.) As for their drinks, they're a pretty decent price ~$4 for a large milk tea. Tapioca Pearls: A really good texture, soft and chewy. But not very flavored; I'd give it a 6/10 rating. Jasmine Milk Tea: Not very aromatic, incredibly watery. I give it a 2/10 rating. read more

Strawberries and avocado? If that mixture sounds flat out weird, but also a little intriguing, Bobablicious just might be your kind of place. They have lattes, smoothies and slushies in all sorts of crazy flavors, like The Hulk, Tropical Thunda, Peanut Butter Cup and Blue Milk. They ask you if you would like your drink made with 2%, skim or soy milk, which is a nice option to have. I was feeling adventurous and went with the soy, which was an extra 50 cents. However, when I saw the price came to $6 for a small, I was a little taken aback. Pretty expensive... maybe I should have gone with the 2% after all! Price aside, they do have a really neat vibe at Boba: artwork, board games, an old school Donkey Kong game, free wi-fi and a good amount of seating. The service was friendly and accommodating too. The guy that served me even asked if I would like real coconut flakes in my smoothie or just the flavor. When it came to the actual product... well, I guess I am just not too big of a fan of the Bobo pearls. The drink flavor was pretty good, a mix of pineapple, papaya and coconut. I would probably go back more for the atmosphere than the actual drinks. But, if you have a few minutes, don't miss out on Nine Lives Book Store next door where you can pet kitties and browse books while sipping your Boba. Not a bad combination! read more

I came here and had the San Antonian- strawberry tea, with avocado bubbles. Weird mix, never seen that anywhere else in San Antonio, but being a San Antonian, I figured I had to try it. I was disappointed with the avocado bubbles. They didn't taste anything like avocados! The strawberries were heavily prevalent, but the avocado was non-existent. The place was somewhat clean, but in some disrepair. The sofas looked like someone had been jumping on them, and the springs were all busted. The video game was all jacked up. The magazines laying out were all several years old, and half the articles torn out. Next door is Nine Lives Books- can't they go next door and snag some free lit?! read more

My family has been coming here for years when we're in the area & we love it. The owner is super kind and friendly. My picky 8 year old always begs for us to bring him to get his favorite boba drink. They have so much variety of flavors which is a plus. If you're looking for a new place to try, I'd definitely recommend this place. It's the best. This place is cool. I'm a huge fan of "bubble teas" and this place has the most extensive menu I've ever seen. The young guy working the counter is super patient, suggest flavors, and makes drinks perfectly. The location doesn't stick out, but they still get decent foot traffic. There's only 1 person making drinks so if there's more than 3 people in front of u, plan on waiting at least 10-15 mins for a drink. Otherwise the place is super chill. U feel like ur in a buddy's basement and nobody gets crazy. This place makes quality drinks, without all the glitz and glamour of mainstream juice bars and/or coffee houses. Long term staff like Wes make this place still worth the occasional visit, that and it's close proximity to my current location. Once I move I'll have no real reason, other than the regulars I've befriended over the years, to come back. I find the interior in a sad state of upkeep and continuously worsening. The dirty floors here get nothing more than a mop pushing dirty water around, the furniture is in need of reupholstered repair or replacement, and the bathrooms have an unmistakable scent of stale pee. The small upgrades and improvements do nothing for the lack luster cleaning ritual the staff and owner have taken into their nightly routine. As a long term customer since their last location its sad to lose the comfort that made this business so much a favored hang out among me and the many friends over introduced to bubble tea over the years. read more

Employee said it would be 15 minutes which I thought was a little crazy but whatever and after 30+ minutes I began to get irritated and then at the 45 minute mark I was about to ask for my money back but they didn't give me a receipt so that was more than likely out of the question. they finally got our drinks out at the pace of 1 drink every 10 minutes. honestly very bummed too because the drink itself is mediocre. Had to stop by the boba spot to see what they're workin with in San Antonio. The young gal who was working during my visit was very sweet and helped me figure out what to get. I ended up ordering a carmel latte' w/boba and it was decent. The drink was more of a sweet slushy w/chewy tapioca balls so it's not like traditional thai tea that we're used to back in Cali. However, it's a nice treat on a hot summer day. It's nice and cool inside and you get free wi-fi with your purchase. During my visit there were some college students hanging out and chatting on the couches in the back where the music was playing. There's also a Donkey Kong video game in the front of the store. There are round tables and chairs throughout the room, and it wasn't crowded while I was there, so I sat in the back next to one of the wall outlets and worked on my laptop. Overall, this is a cool spot to go to get out of the heat, enjoy a cool drink, and relax while chatting with friends or working on your laptop. read more

If you're a boba lover, fyi this place is just mixing a bunch of prepackaged flavors. You cant regulate the sugar percentage. We ordered the thai tea and it just tastes like he used less of his mix and more water, not really a "less sugar" option. You can actually look behind the counter and see that alot of their ingredients are preservative filled. Ingredients are gross and all over the place. Bathroom was dirty. We happened to be eating nearby and just walked in. I should have checked the reviews first. Lesson learned. Wont return. read more

I used to go to this place all the time but now it's just sad. I can in and the only worker there was on the phone and finished his call before he took my order. I got what I used to always get, strawberry avocado and he tried to charge me extra since he said it was a special combination when it's a regular option on the menu. Never thought this place would sink even lower than it did.....let me start from the beginning I've never really expected much from this place. Whenever you walk in, the counter is full of synthetic flavor pumps and it feels like it has not been cleaned properly in a long time. I've given this place a couple of chance, but I didn't bother coming back after consecutive disappointing experiences. The drinks have an odd after taste (tea has a robitussin after tasted) and the tapioca pearls were overcooked/hard. In general, I never favored this palce, nor did I hate it. I went to meet a friend at this place, since she wanted to get a quick snack, and something new caught my eye. This place is using snopioca's logo on their drink sealer roll. I've lived in San Antonio for 8 years of my life and have never seen bobalicious use this logo before. Not sure if there is a some kind of drama going on between the two companies, but thats really low as a local company to represent yourself as another company when you clearly are not. I've been coming to Bobalicious since at least 2011-2012 and I've always ALWAYS had a great experience. I've gotten to know the owner Alex over the years, and he's a great guy and a hard worker. It's been just him working and operating the store every day for the past 5 or so years now, and he has always made every single order that my partner and I have gotten absolutely PERFECTLY. That's what I love the most about the bubble tea - I have my own special drink that I get every single time (it's not on the menu, I just made up my own drink many years ago) and Alex remembers my order perfectly (when I come in, he just asks me "You want your usual?") and it's consistently the exact same every time. Same flavor, same taste, and it's always PERFECT. My partner loves to come in with me too. Now, I've seen some recent reviews from the past few months saying that their drinks were slow, or the younger guy behind the counter didn't know how to make something, or whatever. So I will inform anyone reading that the owner Alex hired another employee (again, it's been ONLY Alex running the shop every single day for the past 5+ years all by himself) a few months ago. The menu at Bobalicious is pretty big (and it used to be even bigger at the old location!) and it takes time for a new employee to learn how to do everything and make everything right, especially when someone orders something that's not on the actual menu - like I do. I have had 1 time about a month ago where the other employee answered the phone when I called to order ahead, and my drink wasn't perfect like it normally always is, and it took longer to be ready than usual. But it's okay and I wasn't upset BECAUSE HE'S NEW. But Bobalicious is still my all-time favorite bubble tea place in the entire city (and I used to live next door to Tong's Thai...) and even now that I live about 25 minutes away, across town, my partner and I still make the long drive to Bobalicious for our favorite bubble tea as often as we have time to. :) read more

We came about 40 minutes before close, and I am aware that it can take some time to make boba and the tea just right. The reason I am leaving a 2 star review is that we placed our order and paid for it, and only after we had waited for 10 minutes were we informed they needed to make a new batch of Thai tea and it would be a 20 minute wait. I am use to competitors being a little more aware of what they have in stock at a given time, and would have happily ordered something else if I had known. We were also told we weren't allowed to leave and come back, as he was going to close up the store as soon as our order was done. There were 6 other customers waiting on orders as well. read more

This is where I usually go in San Antonio when the other bubble tea places around town go belly up. I give them credit. They have made a surviving business around boba drinks that cater to those who like their smoothie contraptions. Avocado and peanut butter whatnots that I'm sure other people love. And the bubble milk tea is no longer gross. Is it good? Well, the tapioca has drastically improved from when they were back at their Callaghan location -- it's always nice and chewy, but the tea is. . . different. I'm not sure if they add milk, creamer or condensed milk, but a warning to cities with nice Chinatowns, this bubble tea will have you scratching your head as to what you have just ordered. If anything it tastes like sweetened water that had a bag of lipton dipped into it. You take what you can get sometimes. And the staff is always nice and tries hard to make the drinks taste better, so if you're out of options, Bobalicious is OK. Just don't call it bubble tea. read more

We've been back so many times since my 1st review. I have to say the reason for my update is to share a tip: ADD Avacado! I know it sounds icky. But it makes the drink very rich and creamy. And all it does is make the other flavor(s) come out- you don't taste the avacado at all - unless you just get an avacado drink. This isn't the best place for Bubble Tea in the city. I've experienced much better and was very saddened that they wouldn't even make me a drink with certain flavors. They said they wouldn't do that????!!! WHAT?? Isn't that what the Bubble Tea experience is all about? Making a drink that is YOU??? Bobalicious is such a great place to hang out and go get yourself a boba drink. The place has a great ambiance to it, which constantly draws me back to it. The Employees are always friendly and the store owner always makes sure that your visit at Bobalicious is a great one. I tend to go there quite often on a weekly basis that it almost feels like a second home. The atmosphere to the place makes it 5 stars alone. Even the customers there are great. Also if you like anime, they hold anime nights twice a week. So now to what makes this place really shine: The Drinks. The very first drink I had was a Waterloo Sunset which consists of strawberry, watermelon, avacado. The outcome, was me going to bobalicious 3-4 times a week. It was simply amazing. This is by far my favorite place to get bubble tea in San Antonio. I've tried other places (Tealicious, for example), but none of them compare in terms of flavor. On the weekends, this place does get rather busy. We generally will wait at least 20 minutes for our drinks. The interior/decor could also be improved upon, but it's never been a major issue for us since we typically just wait for our drinks and then leave. They do offer free wifi though. There are several fun menu options, but I'd highly recommend trying either the Yoda (my personal favorite) or the Iron Man. They also offer soy milk or "crush" options for those who can't have dairy. read more

When a friend suggested meeting here to hang out when I was visiting San Antonio, I was like "OKAY". I adore bubble tea and frequent a few bubble tea places in Koreatown in Dallas. I was a little disappointed. It isn't traditional "bubble tea", it's more like smoothies with tapioca. I got the Asian Passion, my boyfriend got Strawberry Shortcake, and my friends got Butterfinger, and Donkey Kong. They were all tasty, but again, not what I was expecting, really. I liked the atmosphere of the place - couches, board games, artwork on the walls, and a Donkey Kong machine in the corner. It was REALLY empty when we went, though - at about 12:30pm on a Saturday. It's somewhere I'd hang out, and maybe they do have the more "traditional" bubble tea that I enjoy, I just didn't notice it. read more
