This place was a very special surprise. It wasn't too crowded as we walked in, there were 4 empty tables were dishes were stacked but not bused and a slight smell of acetone from the nail salon next door. All things in my mind brought this down from a 5 star to a 4. Clean up the tables is definitely something the restaurant has control over. We sat down, and the acetone smell dissipated so either I was use to it or they turned down a shared ventilation system. The food though was the big surprise! It was excellent. We ordered the Special House Bun with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp and a crispy egg roll. The proportion of vermicelli noodles to fresh lettuce, carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts and peanuts provide d that perfect bite were one ingredient dominated the other. All the proteins were cooked perfectly. The real winner was the lemongrass Banh mi with once again perfectly proportioned ingredients. We also ordered the fresh spring roll, which never came but wasn't missed except that they did try to charge us for but did remove them. They definitely have some work to make this a comfortable dining experience but I wouldn't let it stop you from trying some phenomenal Vietnamese food. read more

We came in for a late lunch around 2 PM and were happy to see a revamped, professional printed menu--no more handwritten pricing corrections! They now also offer lunch specials seven days a week, which is a great addition, especially since nearby Thai Hut has a similar all-week lunch special. The lunch specials are pretty good and include options like endless iced tea (sweet or unsweet) or soda, plus a fried veggie roll on the side--although no soup is included, which Thai Hut does provide. Comparing the two, I'd still say Thai Hut has the edge with more flavorful, freshly brewed iced tea, while the tea at Pho Viet tasted watered down both initially and with the refill. I ordered the orange "chicken" (subbed with tofu), and it was delicious and nicely prepared, as was my cousin's orange chicken. My aunt enjoyed her steak brisket tendon pho--the broth was perfect, rich, and flavorful. My uncle had the grilled pork chop, and he was happy with his choice as well. So overall, everyone's meals were tasty and well-executed! One suggestion for Pho Viet's lunch menu: it would be great if they focused on Vietnamese dishes and flavors rather than mostly Chinese-inspired options. I came in with my partner on a Sunday at around 5:30pm and we were instantly seated. It took about 5 minutes for someone to ask us what we wanted to drink. While we were waiting we noticed it was incredibly pungent inside, smelling exactly like a nail salon (there is one next door). Walked in yesterday at 7:15 and the place was fairly busy so we gave them some time to greet and seat us. We noticed most of the tables that were empty still had food and dishes on them and were still waiting to be cleaned and it was unsightly. We have been going here since we moved to this area. Today the service was great, the food was tasty, but the Pho was skimpy on meat. There is usually more protein in the Pho, which is what we're used to here. Also, the chicken wings were tasty but sadly undercooked. We really like this place. This is hands down the best pho I've had in San Antonio. They've got a ton of authentic dishes on the menu, including oxtail pho which I've yet to find anywhere else in SA. I got a classic pho tai chin; the broth was so good. It was seasoned well during cooking and was very clear. There was a nice layer of visible fat on top that gave it a nice mouthfeel. The noodles were cooked just right, not over or under cooked, and the meat was flavorful and tender. TLDR: This has become my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in San Antonio. You owe it to yourself to give this place a try. I initially came to Pho Viet for one reason: they're one of the very few places that make my favorite Vietnamese dish, Banh Bot Chien - fried rice cakes with egg. I came away loving everything that was served, so I have to give them a shout-out. PV is exceptionally clean, with fast, friendly service and easy parking. The Banh Bot Chien, which is 'A7 House Rice Cake' on the menu - is perfectly done, a mix of crispy, savory, and creamy. Also standout on the menu is the 'A20 Chicken Wings with House Special Fish Sauce'. Trust me, these are the perfect wings, crispy with a slightly sweet, savory and sticky sauce. Everything else like the tea to the fried rice to the iced Vietnamese coffee is great - the coffee is sweet (get it with the condensed milk) and has a caffeine kick like a pissed-off mule. Perfect for those who need their morning jolt. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Went here on a random day because I needed some Pho if my life. The place was nice, simple and the staff were pleasant. Got the Pho Dac Biet and they gave plenty of cartilage (my favorite). The broth had great flavor and portion size was perfect for two meals for me. My bf got some curry which he loved, a little thinner than I like, but great flavor and he too had it for 2 meals.
