Eyeround, shank, flank, brisket, tendon, tripe, meatball. He said it was very good, but wished it had just a few more meat pieces. I had B16, grilled pork egg roll and steamed pork skin over vermicelli. It was the first time for me to try a vermicelli bowl. I really liked it. All the ingredients were so fresh and tasty. We also had some grilled pork summer rolls. They were nice and tight and had a really good flavor. The server was very friendly. The only negative, which we can look past, is that the floor on the one side of the building is not in good shape. Some of the tiles are coming loose where the foundation seems to be sinking a bit. But, since we didn't go there to eat the floor, we didn't care that much. This place will definitely be on our pho rotation in the future. read more

I am visiting from Dallas where we have a good hub of Viet food in the metroplex... and I was disappointed by the pho here. Perhaps it was more so the cleanliness and effect of flavor. The drinking water tasted like dirty water, and the veggies were old and not well washed. This was my 1st time eating hard tendon that tasted gamey(?) and like dirty water too. I feel the same about Mexican restaurants. If I see my people, it's going to be authentic. I had the Chicken Pho and egg rolls. I have to say this broth was soooo good. Super flavorful and really stood out among other places I've tried. It was all great, very hot and the best I've had so far. I also got an order of egg rolls which were a 10/10. So good, I ordered a second order and I was already full but still, I had to go for it. The only call out was the soup was 9.99 according to the menu and the egg rolls were 3.99 each order which would put my bill at 19.45 after tax. When the waitress rung me up, the total was over 21.00, why? I hadn't paid yet so it wasn't a fee for using a CC. Nothing major, just a pet peeve for restaurants these days that don't give you a paper bill but instead ring you up at the register. I got a receipt but it was not itemized. Overall, really loved the food. PS, you are not going here for the atmosphere , it's all about the food. The building is old but clean, and the inside is outdated but again, this is about the food. We went here during lunch time before heading to Sea World. We ordered the crispy egg rolls, pork noodles and Pho. I did not try much of the Pho, but it tasted good. The deep fried crispy noodles were good as well, but they give you a big plate, but the food does not fill it all the way up. We also got the Vietnamese coffee which is great The service was good, they give you a huge cup of water and the food was served very fast. I got excited about Pho Hong Phat because in the photos and on their menu they have the egg loaf. However, once we got inside the excitement died down and never picked back up. The interior is dark and a bit dated giving it a vibe I've never quite had in a Vietnamese restaurant. It was not improved when a dish was made in the kitchen that produced a lot of smoke and started to fill the dining area with a haze. Additionally, once a table finished and left, the dishes were never cleaned up while I was there, and this happened to about 4 tables. Very odd for a Vietnamese restaurant. We ordered a bowl of pho nam gau and a com dac biet (combination rice plate) in addition to cha gio (Vietnamese spring rolls) as an appetizer. All food items came out looking good and in an appropriate amount of time, but the devil is in the details. The cha gio was very oily and left a coating on the plate it came out on. Filling was good, but the nuoc mam was a bit bland to couple with it. Our main entrees came out shortly after with a very nice presentation on the com dac biet. Oddly, with my pho I didn't get the greens that go with it on the side - bean sprouts, basil, and jalapenos. I saw another table get it, but I didn't bother to ask since I was fine without the extra bits this time. The pork chops with the com dac biet were thin which is normal, but didn't have that distinctive red hue to them that comes from the seasoning. It was colored, yes, but not rich and vibrant... rather pale and dull. The fried egg was perfectly cooked and everything tasted pretty good though. Again, I ordered pho nam gau but got pho tai nam gau... not the worst wrong order to get in the grand scheme of things. The bowl was very good though. Good pieces of meat, good broth, perfectly cooked rice noodles, and a very large portion overall. The service was a bit lackluster as well as the interior and the food was fairly good with a couple hits and misses. Personally, with all of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area this one did not shine very bright. read more

We have been here twice, and every time their Pho Tai is always the best! And I don't know if they make the chili paste in house, but when I add it to the soup, it makes it sing! Pho Hong phat is my favorite pho restaurant in San Antonio. It is the place to go if you want a consistently great bowl of beef noodles for a very fair price (8$ for a large), not the place to go if you want beautiful ambiance. The soup is consistently flavorful and they give a generous amount of meat per bowl. I always get the P18 because it has almost the same variety of meat as the pho dac biet but without the increase in price, and I am never disappointed. This place is comparable to good pho restaurants in Houston's Chinatown. In regards to service, you may have to wave someone over now and then, but I didn't ever feel like they were ever rude or ignoring my needs. Also a pro tip it's only 3 dollars more for the x-large which is like the size of 1.5-2 larges. (wish I had put something to compare it to, but trust me it's huge) read more

My favorite place to eat Pho (just Pho), we usually come once a week. I wish they served my favorite Vietnamese friend spring rolls though. The broth is Always good and the Noodles are always good. They have been consistent and that's what I like about them. Their vegetables (bean sprouts, basil and cilantro) are always fresh. The prices are really cheap compared to other places in San Antonio. I order the brisket and meatball (small bowl) and can never finish the entire thing. In a good bowl of Pho, sometimes you don't need to add hoisin or siracha. I have found that with their broth, it's so flavorful and aromatic that you don't need anything at all. The owners are really nice especially Ana, we come so often that she knows what we order. They also close for the entire month of July while they take a trip back home to Vietnam. They are also closed on Tuesdays, usually the day I want Pho. read more
