What a great place. After running an errand at lunch, I didnt want fast food so thought, "what the heck" and stopped in to A Dong. The menu has a lot of options but I decided on the chargrilled pork w/vermicelli noodles. On the standard menu its a Bun. The lunch specials come with choice of soup and a spring roll. Since I didnt want soup, the kind server gave me an extra spring roll. Im calling the roll a spring roll but it is slightly bigger than a spring roll and smaller than an egg roll. My food was very, very good. The grilled pork was the perfect toasty on the outside but tender enough to cut with my fork. The spring/egg roll was perfect. Finally an egg roll that is not greasy. I cant wait to go back and try other entrees. read more

FIRST TIME VISIT! Stopped by on a whim and glad I did! It's a cold winter afternoon in San Antonio and I was craving some hot tea and Asian food. This place is just 7 mins away from my office, so it was a perfect time to try them out. Parking is easy in this large shopping center and they are in a spot that is easy to locate them once you turn off De Zavala and into the shopping center. I ordered the #105- charcoal grilled pork chop chunks w/rice and pickled veggies, fresh cucumber and I added a fried egg. It came with a spicy, sweet sauce that is likely fish sauce based. The food is really good quality! The pork was very tender and the marinade is a bit sweet, classic Vietnamese. I would def recommend this dish with the egg. There are no TVs but they do have music playing overhead, sounds like modern pop music. I had to Shazam a few songs, though. Yes, I am THAT out of touch with current pop culture. See photos for those songs. read more

I go here for Vietnamese Chinese food that you can't get any where else in San Antonio. This is not one of your staple pho shops that you'll see all over town. The dishes are a fusion between Chinese and Vietnamese such as Salt & Pepper Shrimp and Singapore Noodles. My favorites are their Shrimp Eggrolls and Che Ba Mau (sweet bean dessert)! Order takeout online or call in your order! read more

Ordered the chow mein special it was lunchtime so there's several dishes that are $12.99. That include soup your choice, sweet-and-sour, wonton, or egg drop . the wonton soup was delicious. Then I ordered the special chow mein. It had shrimp, chicken and beef. This dish did not come with rice because it already have the chow mein. It was absolutely delicious. It also came with an eggroll. If you haven't gone, you should check it out for lunch specials. They also have dinner specials. read more

This past Wednesday, we visited a restaurant we haven't been to in years. A Dong Restaurant serves both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. Hubby and I both had the Coconut Drink that was very refreshing. Love the fresh coconut meat! Dad had Soy Bean Milk. We started off with the Vietnamese Egg Rolls and Crab and Corn Soup. The soup tasted good but the crabmeat was not the star of the dish. Hubby had the Beef Rice Noodle, which is one of his favorite dishes. I tried some and it was tasty. Dad and I shared the Stir Fry Vermicelli Combo without the curry since we didn't like spicy. There was some flavor but could've use some more. There are 2 locations. We visited the 5222 DeZavala Rd., Suite 318 location. The other location is on Agora Parkway in Selma. read more

Really nice meal. Simple flavors, varied menu. Reminds me of the ease of picking up Chinese takeout in the northeast US. Nothing overly pricey, huge portions, great service. There's a reason this place has been here so long. I will definitely be back for takeout on a lazy night! read more

Place stinks like sewage, walked right out. Was looking forward to trying it, but not if it smells like that inside

Please note: I am Viet and from Houston. I had to add that because I will say for San Antonio - they place is good enough if you are craving Viet food! Did not have the pho that most non-Viets would probably believe Viet food is about but ordered squid, noodles, chinese broccoli and fish. If you ever want to venture outside of pho, be sure to bring at least four people so you can eat family style! I will say you can definitely taste the MSG and salt in their dishes. Food came out fast. Service is on par with typical Asian restaurants - don't expect high quality service. As someone else mentioned, I think they like to make their own hours so I would call to make sure the restaurant is open. We went at 1030am on a Friday which is stated on their doors but I don't think they opened until after 11am. read more

100% Gold standard. Best pho in town. Bar none. Never had better-- believe me, I've tried many other places. The Bun (grilled beef and vermicelli) and Vietnamese egg rolls were also to die for. Service was good and the price is reasonable. I'm convinced- this is the go-to place for Vietnamese! read more

So delicious! Pepper steak was great, the egg rolls were fresh and crispy and that coffee!!! The most delicious Vietnamese coffee I've had in SATX! We were the only people in there but the service was really quick, our waiter was so polite, and the inside of the restaurant was nice! Calm and quiet, not super crazy busy or packed. Loved it and will be sure to come back soon for that coffee!! read more

Stopped into this area Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant for lunch with a group of work colleagues. I was the only one in the group who had a Vietnamese dish, though, and I ordered the beef vermicelli bowl along with an order of fresh Summer rolls (shrimp and pork) with peanut sauce. Both were done well and tasted fine. The Summer rolls were a bit heavy on the leaves and didn't have as many sprouts as I like. Also, the peanut sauce was a little thinner than I like as well. Food: C+ The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated, and there were plenty of tables available, even on a Friday at noon. Ambiance: B The service was not over-friendly, but very good and attentive. We were in and out of the restaurant in just under an hour. Service: B The value for the meal was about average for this type of meal, running just under $20 for both items. Value: B- Overall, it was a nice experience with a group of work friends, although it probably still isn't my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town. read more

Looking for places that serve tofu as part of their proteins, in Texas is like looking for a needle in a haystack lol I came in to look at the menu, and saw they have tofu, so opted to sit down and eat. Was allowed to chose where I wanted to sit, and server promptly came over to ask about refreshments.. Service overall was very friendly, quick, and attentive. The portion was easily for 2 people or 2 meals, I came hungry so are just over half and still had a good amount of leftovers. Food was made fresh, it came out hot and tasty, and all very reasonably priced. They provided me a Take Out Menu in case I'm interested in placing to-go orders... they have a great menu. The restaurant itself had other patrons but wasn't full, quiet ambiance that allows people to talk, low background music.. Would I go back? Yes :) read more

It's located in an accessible location. Plenty of parking spots. The restaurant is roomy, bright, and clean. Not a fast food joint. Service was good. The staff were polite and efficient. I ordered the spring roll and a shaken beef. The spring roll was slightly above the average size. It was fresh and flavorful. Usually oversized ones tend to be overfilled with the rice noodles. But these ones have plenty of herbs, shrimp, and pork. The sauce was a bit too runny for me. The shaken beef (bo luc lac) look great. Plenty of chunks of beef with a great sauce. The taste was well balanced. However it did not come with a tomato fried rice. Price is a bit steep. Houston has better in both price and quality. But when in SA, I'll be back again. read more

Hidden lunch spot not often talked about. Food is always very good and quick when trying to get a fast lunch. The staff working as host have always been very direct and not very friendly from my experiences but overall the food and soled of service made up for that. read more

I've got to say that I keep going back to this place. Their food is always made fresh and their veggies are always fresher than any other Vietnamese place I've eaten in the area. It's a no none sense, no frills type of place with great food and fast service. I haven't had anything here that I would not order again. I will keep coming back to A Dong. read more

The restaurant is large and has ample seating. I like the decoration. However, I feel that the employees could have a friendlier demeanor. I understand that everyone is understaffed and overworked, but the restaurant was empty, and it's a small business, so I expected butter service. It was the first time since I met up with my family in a while, and we did not feel welcome. It was disappoint. In addition, we were charged pre-charged tips, which is understandable since it was a big family, but the service we received was not equivalent to the tips we were charged. We ordered fried squid, Chinese broccoli, and beef salad. The food is good. However, they initially got our order wrong. Maybe we came on a bad day. try it out and see for yourself read more

One of the best Vietnamese places in SA hands down, the seafood combination pho broth is out of this world, who new something so light could be so packed with savory comforting flavors! They're beef combination pho is no slouch either, it really feels like the most comforting homely food you can get. Their Vietnamese egg rolls really are addicting with that sweet and tangy fish dipping sauce they serve them with and make the perfect compliment to their large selection of Pho's or vermicelli bowls. Beef Fleming steak and beef with Chinese broccoli are both solid dishes as well, but that's how it goes with most of their food here, I really haven't gotten a disappointing plate. Theirs menus is large and they have a variety for everyone weather you like Vietnamese dishes or more tamed Chinese American dishes it really is a good place to come over and over again. Portions are always large with if flavors, perfect place for lunch or a casual dinner. I will say I would like some more specials that rotated or some more authentic Vietnamese dishes that are out of the watered down norm from the Americanized ones, but overall they're a solid place to get some bomb pho! read more

Food was just okay. Our waiter, Johnny Dang, added a fraudulent $20 tip to my transaction when 18% gratuity was included on my bill. Save your receipt and check your bank account if you decide to dine here! read more

Our waiter was very friendly and open to answering questions and offering his opinion which was very helpful. The goat hot pot was delicious, but not what is typically considered a hot pot if you have been to a restaurant that specializes in them. The meat was precooked and in chunks. My husband ordered his entrée extra spicy. When he told them there was no spice at all, the reply was that they don't make the meals spicy because someone complained after they made that request. I tried it and it was very bland. I would come back for the goat hot pot. I really enjoyed it. read more

A Dong - Garlic shrimp with white rice and a egg roll lunch special $9.69 - Vietnamese Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Delicious food one of the best I've had in San Antonio. Definitely recommend this place.

Been here twice, once 3 years ago had the pho dac biet, it was borderline salty, another teaspoon of salt and the broth will be too salty, returned again just to see how the pho was again, well pho was the same saltiness, the other A Dong at the forum off 35 north and 1604 is not salty, keep in mind I probably have visited every pho place in San Antonio. Don't know but maybe it's the folks that live around De Zavala like their pho a little heavy on the salt I guess. Not for me. Service was okay, felt rushed eventho it wasn't busy, the ambience is okay, kind of unorganized in the background, for a restaurant in the De Zavala area it could have been a little nicer. read more

My son and I were starving, I looked up places on Yelp and we decided to try this place for the Chinese food. It truly was a long time since we have had Chinese food and the food was delicious. The meat was tender, shrimp was on point and the chicken had the perfect level of spice. This is a restaurant with both Chinese and Vietnamese food. I posted a picture with the hours, open 7 days a week with lunch specials, and located in the parking lot of HEB on Dezavala Road. The server and staff were very pleasant making the experience memorable. The reason I gave it 4 stars was lack of cleaniness, especially in the bathroom, I agree with the previous yelp review. This place is the first place in San Antonio where my son and I truly loved the Chinese food. I will be back to try the Vietnamese food and lunch specials in the near future. Please stop in and try the food for yourself, I know you will not be disappointed! read more

This location of A Dong is very different pretty and clean. The service was great while we were there for lunch. Plus, our food came quickly. Forgot pictures this time but it was all delicious and didn't last long. Only complaint was that the crab Rangoon (dumplings) were slightly over cooked. We didn't mention it as it was still eatable. read more

For starters, it's hard to provide bad service when there are only 2 tables in the place during the peak of dinner time, with 3 visible employees. This place has been declining for a while now. The dining room is partially used for storage, which is not a good sign for a restaurant. The wine bottles on display for sale have labels that are coming off, and they have been like that for over a year. I ordered the cashew chicken, or number 89 on their menu. The brown sauce was light in flavor and the chicken had an unpleasant taste to me. Overall, it was mostly tasteless when everything was combined. The music was too loud for dinner conversation. My dinner companion described the Adon fried rice as average. However, the service was prompt and attentive. The staff checked in on us regularly. Despite the decline in the ambiance and food quality, the restaurant still had a decent customer service. The menu options were diverse with a good range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. It's disappointing to see a once thriving restaurant lose its charm. The lack of attention to detail is evident in the deteriorating condition of the dining area and the neglect of the wine bottles. The cashew chicken dish, which I had high hopes for, turned out to be a letdown with its bland taste. The loud music further dampened the dining experience, making it difficult to have a conversation. Thankfully, the service was one aspect that still stood out. The staff was attentive and regularly checked on us. Despite the decline, the restaurant still offers a decent variety of dishes, catering to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. It's almost as if the restaurant owner has given up on maintaining the standards and forgot that the place is still open for business. read more

Food is good, likely one of the best you'll find for Vietnamese/Chinese food in San Antonio. They offer an extensive menu and very spacious dining space. My go-to dishes here would be the Bun Xao Singapore (stir fry vermicelli curry noodles) and the wonton noodle soup with bbq pork. Both are delicious! My only complaint is the slow service. Orders are taken in good timing, but the wait for the food to arrive is slow. This is usually not a common occurrence in Vietnamese restaurants and hard to manage if you have kids in tow. I would recommend calling in your order and allotting time for pick-up. read more

Very good food but this restaurant consistently has the WORST customer service, takes at least 10 minutes to get seated on top of waiting 15+ minutes to get an order placed. Business needs to hire more people or have a manager actually manage instead of making their workers serve 10+ tables with no help. read more

The first time I tried this place I ordered their dinner specials which is mostly composed of Chinese food which was meh. But, when I went there to try their combination pho, it was so much better. Mind you, I did take out both times. If you're gonna go here, get their Vietnamese food. The young man who was at the front was very nice. I ordered the Vietnamese egg soda which they make when you first arrive so that is at peak freshness when you drink it and it was quite refreshing. I think if a little lime or mango was added it would've been even better. Because of the egg soda, my food took a little bit longer to come out. The interior is very clean and nice. Overall, I would come back here for the Vietnamese food. For the amount of food given for the price, it's definitely fair. read more

Extensive menu with delicious Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. Something has changed here from 5 years ago and not for the better. The hot and sour soup was one of the worst tasting soups I have ever had. The kung pao chicken was terrible. Every piece of chicken had tendon or something gross on it. The sauce cold with a weird film on it. The egg roll was soft and cold. I'm amazed they served a plate like that honestly. read more

Very clean for a Vietnamese place. Average food, but I'm coming from a different perspective. I actually think by Texas standard this is probably a solid 4 but for me I've been spoiled its a solid 3. I want to give 3.5 Bc the place is so impeccably Clean! But, that is not an option on Yelp. Had my favorite soup bun bo hue. It wasn't bad. But the broth was missing that extra kick you get in California. Hyuet (coagulated blood) was fresh!!! The beef was meh. Plenty of vegetables per standard Pho - broth was pretty decent. But the brisket was on the fatty side. For some, that can affect the dish quiet a bit. I always think the broth makes this dish and so I will compromise this at a solid 3. Again I don't think three is bad and I will definitely be returning to try other dishes. read more
