Very clean for a Vietnamese place. Average food, but I'm coming from a different perspective. I actually think by Texas standard this is probably a solid 4 but for me I've been spoiled its a solid 3. I want to give 3.5 Bc the place is so impeccably Clean! But, that is not an option on Yelp. Had my favorite soup bun bo hue. It wasn't bad. But the broth was missing that extra kick you get in California. Hyuet (coagulated blood) was fresh!!! The beef was meh. Plenty of vegetables per standard Pho - broth was pretty decent. This place was unfortunately very disappointing. As someone who wants to learn and try different cultures Foods I was optimistic and excited. We walked in around 5pm and it was empty which form the beginning isn't always the best sign but we stood strong. We were not greeted. There was no one upfront and a worker passed out in the front. When we were greeted you could tell they were not happy we were there. They sat us down abruptly and never explained anything at all. This being. Menu completely in another language with small fixations of English made it very hard for us to even know anything. The place it's self was fine and clean which was good. This new location is very convenient in an area where restaurants are often packed and the same chain options are available. The inside is very clean and neat, plus plenty of seating with large and small tables. Decor is tasteful with some interesting Renaissance style Asian themed art. I ordered my basic favorite rice plate, grilled pork with rice and egg. They use the basic white rice along with a mixture of pickled vegetables, cucumbers and meat. The egg quiche (as many fondly call it) was fresh, albeit a bit in need of salt. My plate didn't come with a vinegar cocktail and I'm a little used to getting. The grilled pork was very tasty and in chunks as opposed to with the bone in. However, it was the perfect freshness and grilled flavor. The cut of meat was good as well. The shredded pork didn't have much flavor, but the texture was perfect. I tried some of my husband's pho and the meat had great quality and taste. The soup broth was a bit salty, but that's more opinion than quality of broth. Most of the items were $9 with the exception of some seafood and special items that were more expensive. Stopped in on a lark. This place is in a srip center or outside mini mall type place off of de zavala in San Antonio. If I would have blinked I would have missed it. So very glad I did not. Indide is gorgeous and very clean. The service was great, staff were wonderful. The food is both Chinese and veitnamese cuisine. Wow!!!! I was ostounded in their great menu and the food... the food is just superb regardless what you order. A drive to this restaurant is WORTH the stop. You will be shocked how good it is. I've been here before once, and it's an okay spot. San Antonio's Most Okayest Vietnamese Restaurant, I suppose. (Well, better than Okay because that Vietnamese Coffee was delicious entertainment) It's on a busy street corner off De Zavala, and it's incredibly spacious. They have all your basics, and they even had some duck dishes. Incidentally, I had been craving duck, so I ordered that with the rice. (And the aforementioned Vietnamese Coffee) The duck wasn't dry at all. It was simmered in a sauce that wasn't overly salty, either. It melded nicely with the rice underneath and I had a difficult time stopping when it came to eating the rice. The coffee was the highlight, though. They served it in an interesting glass-sized drip contraption, where the coffee dripped into some sweetened condensed milk. Once the coffee finished brewing, I think you were supposed to stir up the coffee and milk, and then pour it into the glass of ice. At least, that's what I did, and it was very good. I thought it would put hair on my chest from how strong it was. My sister and brother in law like eating here, and I can see why. They have good service and a nice selection of rice, rice vermicelli, noodles, and soups. read more

First of all, came here because of Yelp, but when I walked in I wanted to scream help! The place reeks! It stinks really bad, the funky smell of fishbone, innards, and possibly bacteria that has built up in the floor, which is carpeted. I have never approved of carpet in restaurants. It has kind of an upscale look to it but a cafeteria feel because of the smell and acoustic qualities of the space. It advertises as "Chinese and Vietnamese" but I think it is more Vietnamese than Chinese. There were several tables of Vietnamese families laughing and having a great time. So I thought, well I have to be open to "authentic" culinary experiences. My mind transported me to the streets of Ho Chi Minh City or Shanghai or some other place from Anthony Bourdain's show where hygiene and sanitation are not important. We ordered the Deluxe Dinner for $14.95 a person. You get appetizers. Soup. And entree. Minimum two persons. I only wanted the eggrolls. Not the other crap they include. They refused substitution. The egg drop soup was good. I asked for crispies. They brought me stale crispies possibly from the lunch period. I also did not appreciate what appeared to be twice fried eggrolls (see picture). I know that some Chinese restaurants will refry cold egg rolls to warm them up. Not very hospitable or correct behavior! For entrees we had the brocolli beef and beef with ginger and onion. It was pretty generic. The ginger beef was not balanced, too much ginger. The pork fried rice was below average. The rice itself had a peculiar smell. I do not like peas or carrots in my fried rice which is how they serve it here. Overall, Yelp really raised my expectations but I have to say the place is kind of rank. read more

Always love trying out new pho restaurants in San Antonio. Apparently this is their second location in the San Antonio area. The other one is all the way by the forum shops way too far from my folk's place to have ever tried it. The decor was beautiful, super clean and modern. Not like your typical pho restaurants with plastic chairs, plain tables and minimal art. Just a great looking place. The service was excellent. They were super attentive and very helpful with suggestions on what to try. Loved the shrimp egg rolls and the sweet chili sauce that it came with. The Vietnamese egg rolls were good, not the style I usually like but none the less they had a good flavor. The beef combination pho was a little sweeter in flavor. I usually prefer it less sweet but the meat was plentiful and the noodles were cooked just right. The veggies they gave with the pho were very fresh and I loved that they gave mint leaves too. A lot of places stopped giving mint leaves with their pho I assume for cost reasons so it's nice to find a place that still gives it out. I wish I could say this was a great experience, but it wasn't. The atmosphere is great and our waiter was very friendly, but the food was pretty bland. I was there with 3 other folks and we all decided we wouldn't be returning. My vegetarian meal had no flavor and was a congealed thick, flavorless sauce. I asked for steamed soft tofu and it was fried. The beef with broccoli was extremely sweet. It's a nice looking establishment, but I won't return because there just wasn't any flavor. read more

I want to start off by saying I am a HUGE Vietnamese food advocate. I love all Asian food, but Vietnamese has to be my favorite. There is this one Vietnamese place I have sworn by for a few years now and I would never go to another until now. I am giving this place a shot since I have heard many good things! This was my first time here. I came here with my boyfriend and his parents; his mom of which is full Vietnamese. I got the beef plate with fried rice and a Vietnamese coffee, which was served the authentic way! My beef was marinated very well and juicy and tender! If I remember correctly I ate every bite on my plate. The Vietnamese coffee was delicious as always. That stuff is strong and will put a pep in your step 100% of the time. I originally did not want to try this place out because of a mediocre experience I had at their other location in The Forum, but that was over 5 years ago. Today I decided to give this newer location a second chance. There is no comparison. The decor, the service, and the food was excellent, especially compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. First thing, ca phe sua da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) was served in the traditional style, a slow drip press over ice and condensed milk, which is so much better than if they were to bring it out already premade. I ordered my favorite soup, Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle) and again they kept it traditional serving it with the blood, pork feet, and spicy oil with fermented shrimp paste on the side. Most places here in San Antonio will not serve it like this, which is a huge mistake because this is what makes this soup so special. Trust me! For me, it's one of those situations where I always tell myself I'm gonna order something different but I never do. My partner in crime prefers No. 122 which is essentially vermicelli with shrimp, chicken, egg, bean sprouts and pork flavored with curry. Each of those dishes have always been full of flavor and I always have a hard time stopping myself before I get that Buddha belly going. They're pretty consistent, food is always hot, and the service is good. When we get to the door, the hostess always acknowledges us and seats us right away. Had a craving for Bun Bo Hue (BBH) after a night out at pub run. Food: Their BBH ($10) is so good. I knew it was going to be good before the waiter even took my order because he stopped me and said "you know this soup has pork feet and blood cubes, is that okay?" UGH YES. You know it's legit when they have to disclaimer ask you that you're okay with the ingredients that should be in your BBH. For those who don't know what my favorite Viet noodle soup is: BBH is an extremely flavourful, spicy lemongrass soup with thick rice noodles (rice vermicelli), served with bean sprouts, mint, lime, and a chili fish paste on the wide. It can contain a variety of meats, from beef to chicken to shrimp to pork. It's delicious and filling and I prefer it over pho. We also got the Pepper Steak lunch special, which came with rice, an egg roll, and your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup or wonton soup. We chose the wonton soup, which the boyfriend thought was decent, but I thought it just tasted pretty salty. The portion size and flavour was just OK. Probably wouldn't get this again. Service: The waiter was really nice and super attentive. Never had to ask for water and he checked up on us multiple times throughout the meal. Granted, the restaurant was also pretty empty, but I wouldn't expect anything less when I come back for dinner sometime. Ambiance: They really put in a good effort into making this place into an upscale restaurant. There are interesting paintings and decor on the walls and around the restaurant, and multiple wine racks. Overall: I would take my parents here when they come visit San Antonio. I was in the mood for Pho even though it's over a hundred degrees so I stopped by for an early lunch. I was the only person at a table and I was greeted by a young man very quickly. I wanted brisket and tendon Pho but tendon was not on the menu so I asked him if I could get it. He didn't really understand so he went to ask and came back and said they didn't have tendon. So I got the brisket Pho and it took probably 10 minutes to arrive which was surprising since everything is already cooked ahead of time and I was the only customer there. The broth was clean and light but had fantastic rich flavor. It had a good amount of tender beef and it came with lots of sprouts, basil, cilantro, and jalapeno. Took my mom for lunch, they have a great lunch special from 11-3pm I believe, a few dishes to choose from for the lunch section and even offer a deluxe lunch special which comes with an appetizer! Lunch included your choice of dish, steamed or fried rice, your choice of soup and crab Rangoon or egg roll. I got the sesame beef, which I've never had before usually I always see sesame chicken so I had to try this out, egg drop soup and fried rice. Mom got the Kung poa chicken, egg drop soup, steamed rice and egg roll. My dish was delicious but I do prefer sesame chicken over beef. I've been with with my boyfriend twice, and he's gone 3/4 times so it's not like we had one bad experience and called it a day, we really tried to give them a chance. Our last visit was just ridiculous however... My boyfriend ordered pho and had asked one of the waiters for some hot sauce for his pho. The waiters are what look like kids / fam / friends of the owners who look semi young and deff acted like it. If it was "slow" / not a lot of people (which there wasn't a lot of people both times we went) they would sit at a table during what I would assume is their down time and just be on their phones.. this table is also in the front of the restaurant visible to all the tables too which is weird? Lol Like if you're going to be on your phone at least do it in the back... lol Their behavior just seemed as if it was something they weren't even getting paid for. There wasn't any initiative. On top of that my bf tried to get the our waiters attention multiple times to ask him for the hot sauce (which I assume he just forgot about) and it seemed like he was just purposely not looking/checking up on us. Another issue began when our waiter was on top of everything for the small party behind us which maybe had 5-8 people in it and seemed to barely pay us any mind... so whatever we're eating enjoying the food then we finish and are ready to pay. So again my boyfriend tried multiple times looking in the direction of our waiter trying to get his attention and or make eye contact and he again just seemingly doesn't look my boyfriends way. Finally he said "excuse me sir" and got his attention maybe 7/8 min later. So we give this man our card and we think it'll take maybe 5 mins tops ( there were only like 2-3 other tables besides us and the party behind us) and as we're still waiting for my boyfriends card the party behind us who got to the restaurant probably 10 mins after we did ended up paying and leaving before we did. :-) So 5 mins goes by, 10, 15, and I wanna say TWENTY minutes go by with NO one communicating with us or keeping us posted on anything going on. I work retail and my bf worked in the food industry for a bit so we were trying not to be those rude people and yell at them but my boyfriend was so tense and was about to go off, because the waiters were still walking around / sitting at their table when we were just trying to leave. FINALLY the waiters give the card to who I believe was a manger / owner and he swipes it some where in the front (I assume the togo desk) and gives it back to us a few minutes later with no apology or reason as to what or why it took so long to charge my boyfriends card. We were SO angry and fed up we really wanted to just leave and I could just feel the anger my boyfriend had with the whole situation. I know how some people can be snotty and bitter as I work costumer service as well but this whole situation really was ridiculous! This place is nicely decorated to give you a classy Asian vibe and the food is as authentic as can be. Most viet people would rather cook at home but if you're feeling a lazy night, this is the spot.
