Beef nachos
Sandi H.

This is my go-to place for meeting up with friends for drinks in Hollywood, but I also like to go by myself and just hang out at the bar. They have a generous happy hour and frequent specials and I like their selection of whiskey. The food has always been solid, and most recently the beef nachos were the prettiest nachos I've ever seen and really delicious. The bartenders always have good vibes and are fun to hang out with. The music is usually good too but there is a jukebox as well so you can choose your own music. It's super dark and laid-back and historic and I can almost always find parking on the street nearby, so this is a standby for me.

Came here for Bar Sinister's Anniversary. The vibe was fun in the beginning. They had multiple rooms in operation and the music is always good. You get a welcome glass of complimentary champagne. Unfortunately, the place was way over capacity. Pretty soon you can barely move and people started dancing in the hallways so it was hard to get around. It got really stuffy too. They should have kept things up to code since it is a safety issue. On the plus side, the gift bags were great!

Service and staff are great. Dark cosy atmosphere. Food is so so, maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Drinks top notch! Fun

So pleased with this hidden gem!!! Had reservations cancelled by the stupid Christmas bar around the block so walked over here. Ambiance and vibe is intimate but cozy, simple decor creates a backdrop for an elevated drink and food menu. Happy hour was offered from 5-8pm with discounted beer/wine/well and food. Got the espresso martini which tasted delicious and another cucumber/ginger and gin drink that was AMAZING. Drinks pack a PUNCH yet are well balanced and reasonably priced. Cocktails are extremely well curated and service was IMPECCABLE. Both bartenders there checked up on us and served us in a timely manner. Fried cauliflower and happy hour tacos were great! Brought with plates, napkins, silverwear, sauces, everything! Not a single thing lacking from the service. Definitely recommend and absolutely worth supporting.

Always wanted to try Boardner's since it's such a Hollywood institution! I am not the bar hopping type, but I like to find cool bars for a drink with friends here and there. Boardner's been around since 1942, many stars stopped by here for a drink, old Hollywood era stars like Errol Flynn, Ed Wood, Robert Mitchum (we sat in a booth under his signed photo, how cool!), Charles Bukowski, etc. They even shot a few scenes here for "Ed Wood", Tim Burton's movie, inside at the bar and outside. So we were early birds here (it opens at 5 pm) for my husband's birthday, eager to try their HH. It goes from 5pm to 8 pm. For beers, you save if you get bottled beer, we got a couple of Dos Equis on tap. Food is $7, so we tried their Nachos with carnitas, nice, fresh, smaller side, but full of flavor and ingredients (avocado, cheese, jalapenos, beans, sour cream, nice salsa), BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders (you get 2 and fries, which is a pretty good deal)- decent, the sauce was a tad sweet for me, but birthday boy liked it. We enjoyed a lot their street tacos, got the asada, nicely cooked steak, fresh ingredients. Great HH hour! Very nice service, the bartender couldn't be more welcoming and helpful, great staff in general. Water from the house (they have jugs with water and lemon on the side), clean restroom, they also have a nice outdoor area where they had some musicians playing. I loved their atmosphere, darkly lit, nice booths, old school Hollywood decor. They were playing decent music, 80's tunes. Don't love the TV-s here, it takes away from the mysterious vibe. The regulars are cool. They happened to have somebody who gathered a lot of people for their birthday and it was getting a tad too crowded, had to push and shove to get some attention that I needed to get out of my booth and use the restroom. So inconsiderate folks who ignored other patrons. That was the worst part, but it's just a thing of timing. I would come here again, enjoy the atmosphere, the food and the legends smiling from the wall. We need to preserve places like this around!

The bouncer that was screaming at women smaller than him and accusing of being drunk and refusing to let in even though I do not drink

Awful environment if you are a woman The bouncers were extremely misogynist and would not even let us into the door and called me drunk, even though I do not drink alcohol. I really think you should avoid this club if you are a woman. I also think that these men should get some sort of consequence for the way that they treat the guests. Borderline hate crime honestly Also, when I said that I was afraid that the bouncer might hurt me because he was being very aggressive towards me. The other bouncer laughed and rolled his eyes at me. Very much treated me and my female friends like we were crazy women and they didn't even treat us like human beings It was honestly really sick and even made me hate my own gender for a second Apparently, the manager and the owner of this place is also immature so i'm not sure this problem will get fixed soon so steer clear

Really beautiful presentation for the cocktails, reminds me of Barton G before it closed. They have a buzz button cocktail which was super tasty! Service was extreme friendly, and accommodating. When we arrived, we had to join a line outside in the rain as the restaurant was a few minutes late to opening. While it wasn't a huge deal, it's not something I've experienced before. Shortly after, we were let into the outdoor restaurant through a beautiful thatch tunnel. The aesthetic is stunning. There is a lot of lush greenery and beautiful woven lantern lights, complemented by chill, ambient house music playing throughout. Unfortunately, we were seated very close to a speaker, so the volume was way too loud and made it a bit hard to hear--less than ideal for a date night, though I understand and appreciate the vision. The restaurant also burns incense that fills the air, which I believe was Palo Santo. I personally love that scent, so it was enjoyable for me, but it's something to be mindful of if you are sensitive to smoke or fragrances. Since this restaurant is attached to a hotel, the crowd vibe is a bit odd. Some people, like my husband and me, were dressed nicely for a date night or birthday celebration, while others were literally wearing sweats, flip-flops, and baseball caps. I know the restaurant is catering to hotel guests, but I do wish there was at least a minimal dress code to align with the gorgeous aesthetic and the steep cost of the meal. All of the staff we interacted with were incredibly kind! Our server was wonderful. He was genuinely so nice, and we really appreciated this part of our visit a lot. We ordered quite a bit of food, so we got to taste a lot of the menu. My husband had a Mezcalita de Yucatán to start, and for food, we ordered the blood orange aguachile, the potato taquitos, the cochinita pibil, the oxtail frites, the corn esquite, and the frijoles de la olla. As the sun goes down, the restaurant uses ambient lighting. While I usually like this, one major flaw is that there is so little light that we couldn't see what we were eating by the time our main courses came. Part of the experience of dining is the visual, and we genuinely were unable to see our plates. I don't personally drink mezcal, but my husband enjoyed his cocktail and said it was light and refreshing. The blue prawn and blood orange aguachile featured a delicious, vibrantly tart crimson sauce with a great chili kick, but the prawns themselves were disappointingly mushy and stringy rather than snap-tender. Unfortunately, the dish was held back further by being served with only two very dry, sub-par tostadas. The potato taquitos were exactly as expected; you can't really mess up a dish that is fried and filled with potatoes. The flavor profile of the oxtail sauce was fantastic and the small amount of meat available was incredibly tasty, but the dish suffered from structural flaws. The oxtail itself was disappointingly skimpy on meat. This was okay since my husband and I shared both of the mains, but for the price point, the portion of meat should be more generous. Also, because the Yucatán frites were served directly in the heavy sauce, they quickly became soggy, developing a starchy and slightly slimy texture rather than a crisp bite. The cochinita pibil was yummy, and the pork pulled apart beautifully alongside the excellent fresh tortillas. As for the sides, the frijoles were solid but unremarkable, and while the esquites tasted good, they were a tad too soupy in consistency. While the kitchen clearly understands flavor profiles, the technical execution across all dishes was flawed. Worse still, unfortunately, we ended up with food poisoning after eating here. I cannot say for certain which dish caused it since we ordered an array of things on the menu, but it was a huge bummer, and I would definitely be hesitant to recommend Ka'teen consequently.

First, the atmosphere is fantastic. Everyone seems to want a table on the patio, but i found it a bit overrated. It felt crowded and loud, and there aren't really any views to justify the hype. The booths inside, especially near the bar, are cozy, stylish, and have a great vibe. I'd recommend sitting inside instead. The margaritas were excellent. We tried the classic and pink lemonade margaritas, and both were delicious. Definitely a highlight. For food, I had the mushroom fajitas, which were really tasty, and my friend had the filet mignon fajitas and ate every bite. The sides were less impressive. The esquites were mediocre, with an overly salty, almost gamey flavor that I didn't enjoy. The chips arrived warm, crispy, and perfectly salted, but the salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce. For a restaurant at this price point, I'd expect much better salsa. Our bill was around $250 for four margaritas, two fajita entrees, and the esquites. That felt pretty steep, particularly given the portion sizes and that one entree was vegetarian. But it is Beverly Hills. All in all, I'd go back. The atmosphere is fun, the margaritas are fantastic, and the fajitas were delicious. Just know you're paying a premium for the location.

We were honestly falling asleep waiting for the actual entertainment to begin. The entire night felt chaotic from the moment we arrived. You spend time getting dressed up, planning a date night, driving downtown, and trying to be excited for the experience, only to park in a dark lot with feces and urine in the stairway. It was scary and disgusting. We looked past the parking lot situation because we were excited to enjoy our night out, but unfortunately the experience only got worse from there. The waitress kept pushing us to order more items, which made the whole night feel like a money grab. The food was absolutely embarrassing and nothing like what was advertised in the gallery photos on the website. It honestly felt like it came straight from Costco. Other reviews mentioned food being served on paper plates, and we can confirm that we experienced that too. The slice of pizza was literally Costco pizza. The pizza and snacks were cheap, low-quality, and nowhere near what you would expect for the price. It really makes you wonder how many people feel misled by that kind of advertising. There was also a complete lack of control and management. People who did not pay for reserved seating were hovering nearby, ready to take your seat the second you got up to use the restroom or go to the dance floor. We saw multiple people weasel their way into reserved lounge and table areas on the ground floor. At one point, a couple was even going through someone's fur coat and looked close to taking belongings before the actual couple returned. That alone says a lot about the environment and lack of security. The billing situation made it even worse. The waitress quickly skipped through the itemized receipt, which made it easy to miss that a 20% tip had already been included. We ended up tipping on top of the included gratuity and only realized it afterward. At that point, we felt completely scammed. We spent over $300, and the overall experience and management were absolutely not worth it. To be fair, some of the acts were great and the band was great. Separate from that, everything else was as mentioned. Between the deceptive billing, weak drinks that barely seemed to have alcohol, the delayed start, boring dance lessons, embarrassing food, poor seating control, and lack of management, the whole experience was extremely disappointing. I definitely do not recommend reserving seats, drinking at this event, or buying their food. Eat dinner beforehand and do not worry about arriving on time, because the show does not really start until around 10:30 anyway. We left feeling scammed.
