I didn't think I'd be able to get good quality take out soup dumplings in Long Island but these are better than some spots I order take out from in Flushing. 5/5 soup dumplings! The only other food I've tried is the beef fried rice, which was just ok. It looked better than it tasted. 3/5 I'm not sure how the rest of the food is, but I'm sure it satisfies a Shanghainese Food craving. My go-tos are: Crabmeat and pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns, pork & veggie wontons in a peanut spicy sauce, pan fried udon noodles, & shredded beef and fresh chilis. The crabmeat pork soup dumplings have thin skin with tons of soup inside. I always pair with a size of vinegar, ginger, hot oil, and soy sauce for the perfect bite. The shredded beef is sliced super thin, is saucy, and spicy from the chilis. The pan fried pork buns have a great crisp on the bottom, are filled with soup, and perfectly soft warm bun dough. Since our favorite place in Flushing closed for soup dumplings, we were on the hunt. We decided to try this place for lunch since we were nearby. We ordered 2 lunch specials and the pork soup dumplings. The roast pork/roast duck was excellent. The shredded pork/celery/dry bean curd over rice was good. The soup dumplings was steaming hot, tasty and soupy. Service was friendly and efficient. There is street parking available. The decor was quaint and nicely decorated. Ordered takeout, so I don't have much to say about either the service or ambiance. The food, however, was stellar for the price point. Not often is food this good for such reasonable prices. Great family-vibe-comfort-food in Williston Park. Although their main website is currently down / not in service, you can still check their menu and order on the phone or third-party apps such as Grubhub and Doordash. The price does not seem to be drastically different, so I guess it doesn't really matter where you order from. Surprisingly, when I am seeking for healthy food around the area, besides Chopt and Greek Place, Blue Wave comes to mind. Compared to Chef Wang and other Chinese related fast food in the area, Blue Wave is less oily and salty. Portion size are also decent (towards the lesser side) but it can still fill you up. (Portion size to pricing ratio could always be be better.) The reason why I can't give Blue Wave five stars is because the taste does not hit like May Wah (fried chicken / pork with preserved vegetable) or Nan Bei Ho in Bayside. It may seem like I am comparing oranges to apples, but Blue Wave is missing a punch for me to receive full 5 stars. Regardless, Blue Wave is worth a shot. Definitely, one of the better restaurants in the neighborhood. Tips, always ask for Chili Oil because it is a great enhancement to your order. Today's meal was pretty solid and I really appreciate the high quality of service as they were super attentive despite being a busy restaurant. Pork and crab soup dumplings - I really liked how hot they came out but the crab taste was pretty weak. Couldn't even tell it was there. Salt and pepper fish fillets - absolutely delicious, especially when you eat it with the garlic fried bits. mapo tofu - a bit greasy but very tasty. Not spicy at all but a lot of flavor. Sauteed string beans and pork - sauteed well but was a little bland with very little pork. This place was packed and I'm not surprised why. There aren't too many true Chinese profile restaurants around so this is one of the better options. However, the flavor profile just isn't fantastic. If you remember one thing, it's that the pork buns are truly like the ones from Shanghai. They immediately transported me back! We liked our other dishes, too. The beef pan fried noodles and crispy noodle pork were straightforward and flavorful (though my pork was a little gelatinous the next day). I live nearby and gotten takeout from here 3 or 4 times bc it saves me a trip to Little Neck or Flushing when I'm craving Shanghainese food. I've tried their fried bean gluten, pork soup dumplings, scallion pancake with sliced beef, chicken w. broccoli, braised pork w. preserved vegetables, Shanghai meatball w. salted egg yolk and pan fried udon noodles. The prices are slightly higher and portions aren't big. I find their dishes to be very salty, their soup dumpling's skin is too thick with not enough soup, the scallion pancake only had 1 slice of beef in it (KFK in the mall's food court tastes better imo), the noodles were okay and my favorite was probably the cold fried gluten, which is hard to mess up. Overall, I think the food is decent compared to other authentic Shanghainese places but the girl in the front is not very pleasant. read more

I had fried pork dumplings, taro puffs and scallion pancake with beef. Everything was DELICIOUS! The scallion pancake with beef was the star. It took me 20 min to get home and by the time I had it, it wasn't greasy at all (like most other scallion pancakes I've had). The taro puffs were also really great. Hadn't been here in a while. But came back with my mom and daughter and had a great time. Their xiao long bao are fantastic. Better than I remember them being. They had great flavor and lots of delicious soup. I definitely recommend them. We LOVE their green beans. Absolutely amazing. They come out still with a nice crunch to them. Lots of places they get really soft before you get to enjoy them, but not here. We also enjoyed their scallion pancakes. Next time we want to try them with beer in them too. We just moved to this area from Manhattan, and I think we just found our new favorite go-to Chinese restaurant. We dined in, and the owner was so sweet and friendly! We ordered sooooo much food for two because everything on the menu looked so delicious, and can confirm they were all very delicious. I thought with the amount of food we ordered it would be over $100 but it was less than $60 altogether! I did notice that if you order from them on doordash the price goes up significantly. Updating my review... 3 years later and the food is still solid. There's honestly no need to rummage through the crowd in Flushing when you can get authentic Shanghainese food here. Tonight, we had the braised fish belly and when i tell you this was legit, IT TWAS LEGIT! The only reason I can only give blue wave 4 's is because there are indeed some dishes that they just miss the mark on. I've realized that anytime the dish requires a good broth base (aka the beef noodle soup and the creamy fish head casserole), it simply misses the mark in flavor. The potential is there if only the chef would let the broth simmer for a long period of time. However, the glaze, sauces, and fry on any other dish is totally on point! I was looking for a dim sum restaurant near Miniola, Long Island and came across this one on google. They have a good amount of options on their dim sum menu but wished they had bbq pork buns. Our favorite was the sticky rice and red bean puff. The chicken fried rice was delicious too. The restaurant is small but comfortable and clean. Originally wanted tofu pudding which was on the menu but they didn't have it the day I ordered. Just a few items to point out which are typically my go-tos. - Pan Fried Pork Buns: I love a good pork bun but this was just okay. The pieces were a good size and the inside was decently juicy (enough to be satisfying) but the outside was pretty soggy. I wouldn't blame this on because I ordered it as take out cause I tried it right when I got it. The bottoms were also clearly not toasted well. - Scallion Pancakes with Sliced Beef: Also a fan of scallion pancakes with beef and this was also just okay. The scallion pancakes were very thick and a bit doughy so it wasn't as crispy as I'd hoped. It also could've used more hoisin sauce on the inside cause it was a bit dry. - Rice Cakes with Beef: loved this. The texture of the rice cakes were cooked perfectly so it had a great chew. There was also enough sauce to coat all the pieces. There wasn't a lot of beef but it was tender. Delicious food! The crispy duck was perfect: crispy skin and tender meat. Some of the best I've ever had. Scallion pancakes were nice and crispy, and the soup dumplings were delicious. My only complaint was that the soup spoons were not the right ones for soup dumplings - they were too small and couldn't stand on the plate so we had a hard time eating them. My dumpling was too big for the spoon, it was hanging off and ending up breaking leaking my soup on the plate. I come here mainly for the xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings). I think they're one of the best spots on Long Island for them and they are as good as many of the places in Flushing. The service is always fast and friendly. Plenty of other really good dishes on the menu as well. It's a little more authentic than a lot of other Chinese restaurants in the area, but I recommend straying a little bit out of your comfort zone to give it a try. For lunch, I ordered the Shanghai Pan Fried Udon Noodle along with the Pan Fried Pork Buns and Steamed Pork Soup Dumpling. The noodles were reasonably salted and seasoned, though they seemed a bit hard and undercooked as opposed to having a softer and chewy texture. My sister enjoyed the steamed pork soup dumplings. Unfortunately the Pan Fried Pork Buns really missed the mark. Some were well-cooked and tasty, but others were very burned on the bottom to the point where I just couldn't enjoy it. I've been wanting to go here after hearing how great the soup dumplings are, so when we needed to find a place to go halfway between our friends' house and ours, this fit the bill. I have to say, don't judge a book by its cover because, from the outside, it doesn't look like much, but inside was sweet with about a dozen tables, all set with white tablecloths and beautiful teapots. Here's what we ordered: for apps, we had pork soup dumplings which were good, but not the best I've ever had; shrimp dumplings, yum, and chicken dumplings which were very thick skinned, but still yummy. We each got our own entree. I'm not much for sharing food, but we did wind up having some of all. My hubby's shredded pork with bamboo shoots and white stringbeans was good, even with my dislike of stringbeans. One friend got Spiced Crispy Diced Chicken, which was indeed spicy and crispy, but not out of control. I loved my Eggplant with Brown Sauce and can't wait to eat my leftovers. I mean, what's a great meal without leftovers? The Crystal Shrimp my other friend got looked much better in real life than on the menu. It looked plain, but delicious. There was about 3 dozen shrimp on the plate in a light, white sauce with a side of broccoli. It was very clean tasting and the sauce was perfect. The rest of the menu had many things I had never heard of, but want to try. I highly recommend this place. We usually go to Flushing to satisfy our cravings for soup buns but my gal pal misplaced her Covid vaccination card. Small clean restaurant. As you walk in you can see the kitchen. The service was excellent. When I checked in on Yelp there was an offer for a small order of wings as a thank you for checking in. Unfortunately the server said they couldn't honor it during these times. It is what it is. We ordered one order of pork soup bun, crab soup buns and an order of seafood crispy noodles. The buns were very flavorful. The noodles were another story. No part of the noodles were crispy. It appears that the noodles were dry and they under cooked the noodles. The dish was drowning in a sauce with a lot of Napa cabbage. Fish, shrimp and one small piece of squid was the seafood component in the fish. I will come back again. Excellent Sichuan and Shanghai food. We did Uber Eats tonite and were amazed at how good the food was. We ordered the cubed spicy chicken, pan fried pork dumplings, pepper and salt pork, crispy duck, scallion pancakes, beef scallion pancakes, pork and crunchy noodles and a hot and sour soup. The favorite of the bunch for hubby and I were the spicy cubes chicken, the kids loved the crispy duck and the pork dumplings were absolutely delicious, so juicy and tender. The scallion pancakes were fantastic as was the duck and pork. Probably our least favorite of the bunch being the pork and crunchy noodles, although it was tasty, I'm not sure there was any pork in them, all the vegetables either took over or tasted like the pork, but we didn't taste any thing really meaty in them, the sauce was pork base and very good though. Another minus, was that we ordered through Uber eats and specifically ordered from here because of the estimated delivery time which was 15-25 mins according to the app, our Order didn't arrive till well over an hour. I must say that I am happy about the wave of Asian places that strive to provide better tasting and quality food making inroads into Nassau county. I'm hesitant to use the term "authentic" because what does that even mean? I'm not Asian, and I never lived in Asia, but I can appreciate the difference when I spot a place (Shangainese in this case) trying to up their game from the typical Americanized take out spots that litter the Island. Blue Wave is a notch above and a win for Nassau's take out, delivery and dining scene (But as of now I have yet to eat here). I enjoyed many of the dishes I ordered from here, but tbh I can think of many places in Queens that do a better job. The fried pork buns were tasty, but the texture of the filing was a bit too smooth and the flavor not as good as others I tried. Scallion pancake with beef was a bit too doughy and not enough beef, but they would certainly do in a pinch. The braised beef noodle soup had very good flavor, but the beef wasn't as tender as I found in other versions (I prefer Cheng Du in Franklin Square version better) - I would still order this if I was in the area. Stir fried string beans were crisp with slivers of fresh garlic - another dish I would order again. My favorite so far is the crispy duck - I found it very juicy and a good flavor. Still managed to stay crispy after the delivery time. From the photos the space looks fairly large, nicely decorated and inviting. I hope to stop in one day and try the dishes fresh from the kitchen. To be honest. I really REALLY think they should redesign their logo. I so happen to stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch not even knowing that it exist in the area. It just seems so blended in that I thought at first glance it was some kind of production store. The food isn't too bad. They try to make it as authentic as it can be. The soup dumplings were well made. Flavor was on the average side. Need a better broth gel imo. But, can't really complain especially you wouldn't find a lot of options or soup dumplings around. Rather inconsistent to be honest. When the food is good, they are really good! But there are times when the flavors are off or bland even. Our usuals are the soup dumplings which are usually consistent, the Shanghainese noodles which can be chewy sometimes, the pork chop noodle soup which is usually pretty good, and the young chow fried rice which sometimes is great or sometimes bland. Their scallion pancake with beef is also pretty good. It's nice not having to travel out to queens for Shanghainese food but hopefully you get to go on a good night. read more

After reading his review about Bluewave which features Shanghainese cuisine, I knew I'd be grabbing chopsticks and heading out to Hillside Avenue. Parking? Forget about it. You'll need to drive the side streets to find a spot. Once inside, think of a typical Chinese food take out place except they put white tablecloths down to be fan-say. Once I'm seated, I'm given the lunch special menu. The lunch menu is loaded with some amazing choices, all with a Shanghainese spin. And Shanghainese? Someone in their review said sweet, its not. Its not Szechuan but it has some heat. My first time here, I'm going to order my favorite lunch, Ma Po Tofu. It also comes with a choice of soup, hot & sour is my go to. The Hot & Sour soup is typical. Everything tastes fresh but its not different from any other H&S I've had. The Ma Po Tofu? Hanging Shanghainese baby! Woo! Heat, oh yeah but not too much. Wait, is that peas in the dish?? Krazy man. This was a dish that I could easily have once a week, Bluewave excelled in the Ma Po Tofu test. I see the large table next to me, a bunch of retired folks were seated and they were giddy over the menu choices. They're all sharing and enjoying the food delicacies, Shanghainese style. Got blue wave for take out this morning and enjoyed the food! We got the scallion pancake with beef, pan fried pork buns, pork soup dumplings and the Shanghai udon noodles. The Shanghai udon noodles was cooked perfectly and I love the sauce that coated it. It also had pork and Bok choy which were great with the noodles. The soup dumplings were a classic and I liked how juicy they were. Even with having it as takeout, there was still a lot of soup in them. The pan fried pork buns were super juicy as well and had a nice filling, the only thing I wished was that it had a crispier bottom. The scallion pancake with beef had really good flavor, the beef was tender and the sauce used was delicious. This dish too could have been a bit crispier as well.
